Actress Shraddha Kapoor reveals seasonal craving for this vegetable

Mumbai: Actress Shraddha Kapoor humorously questioned her newfound obsession with carrots as winter set in, sharing her seasonal food craving with fans after her recent appearance in ‘Stree 2‘. The actress took to her Instagram Thursday, and shared a video featuring three pictures of herself enjoying the carrots in different forms. The first picture shows the actress dolled up as she sat in her make-up chair with her team behind her amidst the shooting chaos. She can be seen enjoying a bowl of “gajar ka halwa”. The second picture shows her enjoying a glass full of carrot juice, as she smiles for the camera. The third picture shows her with a plate of carrot sandwich. She wrote on the video, “Dil bole gajar, dimaag bole aur bhi gajar. Kya ye normal hai ya obsession”. Earlier, the actress had dropped a series of pictures in which she was seen indulging in some chakli and chiwda. The actress was seen dressed in comfort wear with floral patterns in the pictures, which also featured her furry friends, Shyloh and Small. One of the pictures also had a bound script out of focus in the background. She wrote in the caption, “Chak-li De India”. Prior to this, the actress, who keeps on making headlines for her rumoured relationship with Rahul Mody, dropped a set of sun-kissed photos of herself spending the weekend relaxing on her couch, Shraddha asked an adorable question in the caption. The ‘Stree‘ actress wrote on Instagram, “Kuch zyaada lucky nahi ho gaya photo kheenchne vaala ??? (Didn’t the person taking the photo get a little too lucky???)”, along with a laughing emoji. This was not the first time Rahul was caught capturing Shraddha. The speculations of Shraddha and Rahul dating one another began circulating back in early 2024 after the two were spotted leaving a dinner date in Mumbai. Ever since then, the alleged couple has been captured together on several occasions. From the lavish pre-wedding festivities of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant, to film screenings, to taking flight together. Back in June, Shraddha made her relationship with her writer beau Instagram official with a picture. Taking to her Instagram Stories, the ‘Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar’ actress shared a picture of the two posing for a selfie. Both Shraddha and Rahul were dressed in white in the still in which the diva lovingly held Rahul’s arm.

Pakistan rejects claims of denying entry to Hindu pilgrims as ‘misleading’

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Foreign Office rejected as “unfounded and misleading” the allegations that some Hindu pilgrims were denied entry into the country while travelling with a Sikh group Thursday. A group of nearly 1,900 Sikh pilgrims crossed over to Pakistan through the Attari-Wagah border for Guru Nanak’s birth anniversary celebrations Tuesday. A Hindu man said he was sent back along with six of his family members because of their religion. “Pakistan categorically rejects the unfounded and misleading allegations that members of the Hindu community were denied entry into its territory,” Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Husaain Andrabi said in response to media queries. He said that a very small number of individuals were found to possess incomplete documentation and were unable to provide satisfactory responses to immigration authorities. Consequently, they were requested to return to the Indian side in accordance with standard procedures. “To suggest that these individuals were denied entry on religious grounds is completely incorrect and mischievous,” the spokesperson said, adding that Pakistan has always welcomed pilgrims of all faiths. He further clarified that the action taken was purely administrative, consistent with Pakistan’s sovereign right to regulate entry into its territory. Amar Chand, who was sent back along with six of his family members after they crossed over to Pakistan, said they had completed all the formalities. Hailing from Delhi, Chand also claimed that seven more Indians, who were from Lucknow, were turned back.

Makers share shoot update on Jr NTR–Prashanth Neel project

Chennai: The makers of ace director Prashanth Neel’s upcoming film, featuring actor Jr NTR in the lead, Thursday dropped an update on the film’s progress, much to the delight of fans and film buffs. Mythri Movie Makers, the production house producing the film which is tentatively being referred to as #NTRNeel, shared a picture of actor Jr NTR having a makeover and wrote, “The beast mode is about to ignite again. #NTRNEEL next schedule begins soon.” For the unaware, the film is scheduled to release June 25 next year. The film, which is being produced by Mythri Movie Makers in association with NTR Arts, is expected to be a one-of-a-kind cinematic spectacle. The film is being jointly produced by Kalyan Ram Nandamuri, Naveen Yerneni, Ravi Shankar Yalamanchili, and Hari Krishna Kosaraju. With the creative vision of Prashanth Neel, renowned for his success with the KGF franchise, and Jr NTR’s dynamic screen presence, #NTRNeel is expected to redefine action cinema and set new industry benchmarks. Promising high-octane action, compelling storytelling, and grand visuals, this film is already being hailed as one of the most eagerly awaited Indian films in recent times. It may be recalled that Prashant Neel had trashed a rumour suggesting that he could next be working with Telugu star Ram Charan in a movie that was to be produced by well well-known production house DVV Movies. Taking to his X timeline to set the record straight, the ace director, quoting a tweet that had misleading information, wrote, “Currently I’m Committed to only Two projects #NTRNeel later #Salaar2. Please don’t encourage this type of Paid tweets.” The tweet that he had quoted read: “#RamCharan x #PrashanthNeel x DVV a storm in the making.” The handle had also put out a poster that was titled ‘DVV next with Ram Charan’. The poster went on to say, “The next big venture from DVV Movies after OG is expected to be Ram Charan’s massive collaboration with Prashanth Neel. If this combo locks in, expect nothing short of a pan-India explosion action, scale and style on a whole new level.”

Khurda imposes prohibitory orders after village boundary clash

Bhubaneswar: The Khurda district administration in Odisha has imposed prohibitory orders following a clash between residents of two villages over a boundary dispute, officials said Thursday. According to police, villagers of Ostapur and Kotapalla under Baghamari police station limits resorted to violence Wednesday night after a heated argument over a long-standing border dispute. Sources reported that the dispute arose over the installation of a signboard marking the boundary between the two villages. Three to four roadside shops were gutted, and several people sustained injuries during the clash. The local administration imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), officials said. According to an order by Khurda Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Saphalya Mandita Pradhan, the prohibitory order has been imposed from Hanuman Batika to Barika Pokhari in the Ostapur–Kotapalla area. Residents of the two villages have been directed not to open shops or assemble in public places until further notice. In August, prohibitory orders were imposed in the same area after a similar incident of violence. Around 30 police personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order, officials said.

UP cops book 20 women over puja attempt at Fatehpur site

Fatehpur: A group of women carrying diyas and other material tried to perform puja at a disputed mausoleum site on Kartik Purnima, clambering over barricades and clashing with police when they were stopped, officials said Thursday. Police registered an FIR against 20 women after the clashes Wednesday evening, tension flaring up once again over the centuries-old Nawab Abu Samad mausoleum. August 11, members of Hindu rightwing outfits had allegedly created a ruckus while demanding permission to offer prayers there, claiming that the structure was a temple of ‘Thakurji’ with a ‘Shivling’. They alleged that the mausoleum was constructed after demolishing an ancient temple. Videos from that time purportedly showed vandalism and hoisting of a saffron flag at the site, triggering communal tension in the area. Following the agitation, the district administration sealed the premises, put up barricades and imposed restrictions. Wednesday, a few women allegedly tried to remove or climb over the barricades, prompting police to restrain them, officials said. An argument ensued between the women and Station House Officer (SHO) Tarkeshwar Rai, during which the women accused the police of misconduct and preventing them from offering their prayers. Unable to reach the disputed spot, the women eventually performed their prayers and aarti from a nearby lane, facing the structure. A case has been registered at the Kotwali police station under Sections 121(1) (obstructing or assaulting a public servant in discharge of duty), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 352 (use of criminal force otherwise than on grave provocation) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), the ASP said. The FIR, lodged on the complaint of Constable Manju Singh, named 20 unidentified women, including the wife of a local identified as Pappu Singh Chauhan. In her complaint, Constable Singh said she and other personnel were deployed near the disputed mausoleum when, around 6 pm, a group of women led by Chauhan’s wife allegedly tried to push through the barricades, used abusive language and threatened police with false accusations. Videos purportedly showing the women arguing with police and performing puja from a distance have surfaced on social media, though their authenticity has not been independently verified. So far, no arrests have been made in the matter, and extra vigilance is being maintained in the area, where a heavy police force has been deployed. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mahendra Pal Singh informed PTI that local intelligence units have been instructed to monitor the situation. He confirmed that the situation is currently peaceful, with no law and order issues reported. Earlier, BJP district president Mukhlal Pal had warned that he and members of Hindu organisations would perform prayers at the site, citing carvings of a trident and lotus inside the structure as evidence of its Hindu origins. Officials said the matter is sub judice and strict orders have been issued to prevent any activity that could disturb public order.

At least 12 dead after UPS plane crashes, engine falls off in Kentucky

Louisville (US): A UPS cargo plane’s left wing caught fire and an engine fell off just before it crashed and exploded after takeoff in Kentucky, a federal official has said, offering the first investigative details about a disaster that killed at least 12 people, including a child. Finding survivors seemed unlikely as first responders searched the charred area of the crash at UPS Worldport, the company’s global aviation hub in Louisville, Gov Andy Beshear said Wednesday. The inferno consumed the enormous aircraft and spread to nearby businesses. After being cleared for takeoff, a large fire developed in the left wing, said Todd Inman, a member of the National Transportation Safety Board, which is leading the investigation. The NTSB will now try to determine what caused the fire and why the engine fell off. It will likely take investigators more than a year to answer those questions. The plane gained enough altitude to clear the fence at the end of the runway before crashing just outside Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, Inman told reporters. Airport security video “shows the left engine detaching from the wing during the takeoff roll,” he said. The cockpit voice recorder and data recorder were recovered, and the engine was discovered on the airfield, Inman said. “There are a lot of different parts of this airplane in a lot of different places,” he said, describing a debris field that stretched for half a mile. The plane with three people aboard crashed about 5:15 pm Tuesday as it was departing for Honolulu from UPS Worldport at the Louisville airport. The crash had a devastating ripple effect, striking and causing smaller explosions at Kentucky Petroleum Recycling and hitting an auto salvage yard, Grade A Auto Parts. Beshear said the child who died was with a parent at the parts business. Beshear earlier said it was a “blessing” that the plane did not hit a nearby Ford Motor factory or the convention centre. Some people who heard the boom, saw the smoke and smelled burning fuel were still stunned a day later. “I didn’t know if we were getting attacked. I didn’t know what was going on,” said Summer Dickerson, who works nearby. Stooges Bar and Grill bartender Kyla Kenady said lights suddenly flickered as she took a beer to a customer on the patio. “I saw a plane in the sky coming down over top of our volleyball courts in flames,” she said. “In that moment, I panicked. I turned around, ran through the bar screaming, telling everyone that a plane was crashing.” Manager Lynn Cason said explosions, only about 90 metres away, shook the building three times — “like somebody was bombing us” — but no one there was injured. “God was definitely with us,” Cason said. Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg announced on the social platform X on Wednesday evening that the death toll had risen to 12, saying, “Please take a moment to hug your loved ones and check on your neighbours.” The governor predicted that the death toll would rise, saying authorities were looking for a “handful of other people” but “we do not expect to find anyone else alive.” Mark Little, chief of the Okolona Fire District in Louisville, said debris would have to be moved and searched, adding: “It will take us quite a while.” University of Louisville Hospital said two people were in critical condition in the burn unit. Eighteen people were treated and discharged at that hospital or other health care centres. The airport is 11 km from downtown Louisville, close to the Indiana state line, residential areas, a water park and museums. The airport resumed operations on Wednesday, with at least one runway open. Beshear said he did not know the status of the three UPS crew members aboard the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 made in 1991. It was not clear if they were being counted among the dead. UPS said it was “terribly saddened.” The Louisville package handling facility is the company’s largest. The hub employs more than 20,000 people in the region, handles 300 flights daily and sorts more than 400,000 packages an hour. Jeff Guzzetti, a former federal crash investigator, said a number of things could have caused the fire as the UPS plane was rolling down the runway. “It could have been the engine partially coming off and ripping out fuel lines. Or it could have been a fuel leak igniting and then burning the engine off. It’s just too soon to tell,” Guzzetti said. He said the crash bears a lot of similarities to one in 1979 when the left engine fell off an American Airlines jet as it was departing Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, killing 273 people. Guzzetti said this UPS plane and the American plane were equipped with the same General Electric engines and both planes underwent heavy maintenance in the month before they crashed. The NTSB blamed the Chicago crash on improper maintenance. The 1979 crash involved a DC-10, but the MD-11 UPS plane is based on the DC-10. Flight records show the UPS plane was on the ground in San Antonio from Sept 3 to Oct 18, but it was unclear what maintenance was performed and if it had any impact on the crash.

PIB busts Pakistani propaganda on old Mi-17 Budgam video

New Delhi: The Press Information Bureau (PIB) has once again busted Pakistani propaganda circulating on social media, which falsely claimed that an Indian Mi-17 helicopter was recently shot down in Budgam, Jammu and Kashmir. In a fact check issued Thursday, PIB clarified that the viral video being shared by several Pakistani social media accounts is six years old, unrelated, and is being misused to push misleading narratives. “Some #Pakistani propaganda accounts are recirculating an old video on social media, falsely claiming that a missile shot down an Indian Mi-17 helicopter,” PIB said, while sharing the clip to put the record straight. The fact check confirmed that the footage pertains to the 2019 crash of an Indian Air Force (IAF) Mi-17 V5 helicopter near Budgam in Jammu & Kashmir, and not a recent incident. “It is from an earlier incident that took place in 2019, involving an Indian Air Force (IAF) Mi-17 V5 helicopter that crashed near Budgam, J&K,” PIB stated. Calling out the deliberate misinformation, PIB cautioned that such fake content is circulated to “create panic, spread misinformation, and malign India’s image.” The PIB Fact Check stated that the original incident occurred February 27, 2019, when the helicopter took off from Srinagar airfield at 10 a.m. for a routine mission. “It crashed around 10.10 a.m. near Budgam, resulting in the death of all six IAF personnel on board. A Court of Inquiry had been ordered at the time to investigate the cause of the accident,” it said. India has repeatedly flagged Pakistan-based social media networks for running disinformation campaigns, particularly after sensitive military or political developments. The Fact Check unit of the PIB has debunked Pakistani propaganda against India and the Indian Armed Forces, and fact-checked many such posts countering such content in the past also.

How FD rates are determined: Key factors explained

How FD rates are determined: Key factors explained

Fixed deposits (FDs) continue to be one of the safest and most dependable investment options in India. They offer a guaranteed return over a specified period, making them suitable for individuals seeking stability over risk. While many investors appreciate the predictability of FDs, fewer fully understand how fixed deposit rates are determined. In today’s changing economic environment, these rates are influenced by several domestic and global factors. Understanding what drives them helps investors make better financial decisions — and choose the right provider. In this context, we highlight the FD offering from Bajaj Finance and explain how its latest fd rates stack up. Understanding FD and how interest works A fixed deposit allows an investor to place a specific amount of money with a bank or non-banking financial company (NBFC) for a fixed tenure. In return, the institution pays interest at a predetermined rate until maturity. The interest can be compounded and paid at the end of the tenure (cumulative FD) or disbursed periodically (non-cumulative FD). The return is fixed at the time of investment and remains unaffected by market movements. However, the institution’s rate is determined using economic and institutional considerations rather than being set arbitrarily. With Bajaj Finance, you can choose tenures between 12 and 60 months. The minimum deposit starts from Rs. 15,000, making it an accessible choice for a wide range of investors. Key factors influencing FD interest rates Several key factors shape how banks and NBFCs decide the rates offered on FDs. Here are the main ones — and how they matter when you’re comparing options such as those from Bajaj Finance. 1. Repo rate set by the Reserve Bank of India The repo rate, which is the rate at which the RBI lends money to commercial banks, has a direct influence on FD rates. When the RBI raises the repo rate to control inflation, borrowing becomes costlier for banks. To maintain liquidity, banks and NBFCs tend to increase their deposit rates. Conversely, when the RBI lowers the repo rate to encourage lending, FD rates usually decline. 2. Inflation levels in the economy Inflation affects the real value of returns from a fixed deposit. When inflation rises, the central bank often raises interest rates to reduce the money supply, leading to higher deposit rates. During low-inflation periods, rates tend to fall since there is less need to attract extra savings. Investors aim to achieve returns that keep pace with or exceed inflation, making it important to consider the broader price environment when investing. 3. Demand and supply of credit Financial institutions balance their funding needs with the demand for credit. When businesses and consumers borrow more, credit demand increases, and banks or NBFCs require additional deposits to support lending. This often results in higher fixed deposit rates. When credit demand weakens, the need for deposits decreases, and institutions may adjust rates downwards. 4. Tenure of the fixed deposit The investment duration directly affects the rate of return. Generally, longer-tenure deposits earn higher interest as the investor commits money for an extended period. With Bajaj Finance, for instance, the highest rates apply to tenures between 24 and 60 months. For regular customers, rates go up to 6.95% p.a., and for senior citizens, up to 7.30% p.a. 5. Credit rating of the institution Non-banking financial companies and smaller institutions may offer slightly higher FD rates than large banks to attract investors. The safety of such deposits is assessed through credit ratings issued by agencies like CRISIL or ICRA. Bajaj Finance FDs carry AAA/Stable ratings from both CRISIL and ICRA — one of the highest safety ratings in the industry. High ratings reflect strong financial stability and timely repayment capacity, which is an important consideration for investors balancing return versus credibility. 6. Economic growth outlook The broader economic environment influences interest rate trends. During phases of strong economic growth, the demand for credit increases as industries expand and consumers spend more. This encourages banks to raise deposit rates to attract funds. When economic activity slows, credit demand falls, and institutions may lower rates to maintain profitability. 7. Liquidity conditions in the financial system Liquidity – the amount of funds circulating in the financial system – matters. When liquidity is high, banks and NBFCs have ample resources and little incentive to offer higher rates on deposits. When liquidity tightens due to increased lending or government borrowing, institutions raise FD rates to attract more deposits. 8. Type of customer and deposit amount Interest rates may vary depending on the depositor’s profile and deposit amount. Senior citizens, for example, are often offered slightly higher fixed deposit rates — typically around 0.25% to 0.50% above the standard rate. In Bajaj Finance’s case, senior citizens receive up to 0.35% p.a. additional rate compared to non-senior customers. Some institutions also offer preferential rates on bulk deposits or for long-standing customers. 9. Market competition and regulations Competition among financial institutions influences rate setting. When several banks or NBFCs compete for deposits, they may offer higher rates to attract investors. Additionally, regulatory requirements such as the cash reserve ratio or statutory liquidity ratio can impact how much flexibility institutions have to increase deposit rates. Why consider investing with Bajaj Finance Fixed Deposit Here are key reasons why the Bajaj Finance FD stands out, especially for conservative investors looking for safety and reliable returns: Attractive rates: Bajaj Finance offers rates up to 6.95% p.a. for regular investors, and up to 7.30% p.a. for senior citizens for tenures of 24–60 months. Flexible tenures: Choose between 12 and 60 months to match your savings goal — whether short-term or medium-term. Low entry amount: Start with just Rs. 15,000, making it accessible for all types of investors. Top-class safety ratings: Rated AAA/Stable by both CRISIL and ICRA, indicating a strong safety profile. Flexible payout options: Choose how you want to receive interest — monthly, quarterly, half-yearly, or at maturity. Loan against FD: Get a loan of up to 75% of the FD value (for cumulative) or up to 60% (for non-cumulative) without breaking your investment. End-to-end online process: From booking the FD to managing renewals, everything can be done digitally with ease. How investors can respond to FD rate movements Even though individuals cannot control how rates are set, they can adopt certain strategies to optimise their returns. With Bajaj Finance in mind, here are some tips: Use laddering: Split your investment into multiple FDs with different tenures to maintain liquidity and reinvest at potentially higher rates. Monitor rate announcements: Keep an eye on policy changes and institutional updates to time your deposits better. Compare payout options: Choose between monthly, quarterly, or maturity payouts depending on your income needs. Choose the right tenure: Since Bajaj Finance offers the highest rates for 24–60 months, consider locking in that tenure for maximum benefit. Factor in taxation: Remember that FD interest is taxable as per your income-tax slab, so calculate post-tax returns. Consider senior-citizen benefit: If you are above 60, take advantage of the additional 0.35% p.a. interest rate. Check minimum amounts and features: Start with as little as Rs. 15,000 while still enjoying attractive rates. Understand premature withdrawal terms: Be aware of any penalties or lower rates that may apply if you close your FD before maturity. The road ahead for FD rates — and for Bajaj Finance The structure of fixed deposit interest rates in India will continue to evolve with broader economic and policy developments. As the financial system becomes more integrated with global markets, interest rate movements abroad may also influence domestic deposit rates. Technological advancements have made it easier for investors to compare rates, open deposits, and manage renewals online. With its current offering, Bajaj Finance is well-positioned for this future — combining digital convenience, strong safety ratings, and competitive returns. Despite new investment products entering the market, FDs will likely remain relevant due to their predictable returns and ease of understanding. Bajaj Finance’s FD is a strong option in this space. Fixed deposit rates are influenced by a mix of economic indicators, policy measures, and institutional requirements. Repo rate changes, inflation, liquidity, and market competition all contribute to how institutions decide interest levels. For investors, understanding these factors provides better insight into why rates move and how to plan investments accordingly. If you are looking for a safe, predictable, and accessible fixed-income option, the Bajaj Finance Fixed Deposit offers a compelling choice — with up to 7.30% p.a. for senior citizens and 6.95% p.a. for others — backed by strong safety ratings and flexible features.

ED summons Anil Ambani again for money laundering case Nov 14

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Reliance ADAG Group Chairman, Anil Ambani, again November 14 for questioning in the money laundering case against the conglomerate, according to sources. The development comes close on the heels of ED provisionally attaching over 132 acres of land worth Rs 4,462.81 crore in Dhirubhai Ambani Knowledge City at Navi Mumbai earlier this week, under the provisions of Prevention of Money Laundering Act, sources added. ED had earlier attached 42 properties worth over Rs 3,083 crore in the bank fraud cases of Reliance Communications Ltd. (RCOM), Reliance Commercial Finance Ltd., and Reliance Home Finance Ltd. “The total attachment in these cases stands at over Rs 7,545 crore. ED is actively pursuing perpetrators of financial crime and is committed to restituting the proceeds of crime to their rightful claimants,” the statement said. The financial watchdog had initiated an investigation based on CBI’s FIR under sections 120-B, 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, and section 13(2) read with section 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1989 against RCOM, Anil Ambani, and others. RCOM and its group companies availed loans from domestic and foreign lenders from the period of 2010-2012 onwards, of which a total amount of Rs 40,185 crores is outstanding. Five banks have declared the loan accounts of the Group as fraud, the statement said. The ED investigation has revealed that loans taken by one entity from one bank were utilised for repayment of loans taken by other entities from other banks, transfer to related parties, and investments in mutual funds, which was in contravention to the terms and conditions of the sanction letter of the loans, the statement had explained. In particular, RCOM and its group companies diverted over Rs 13,600 crore for evergreening of loans; over Rs 12,600 crore was diverted to connected parties and over Rs 1,800 crore was invested in FDs/MFs, etc., which was substantially liquidated for rerouting to group entities. Huge misuse of bill discounting for the purpose of funnelling funds to connected parties has also been detected by ED. Certain loans were siphoned off outside India through foreign outward remittances. Further investigation is in progress, according to an ED statement.

RJD alleges power cuts at strong booths, ECI counters claim

New Delhi: Amid the ongoing voting for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections covering 121 seats across 18 districts, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) alleged a ‘deliberate and malicious’ attempt to harm the electoral prospects of the Mahagathbandhan (RJD-Cong-Left alliance). The ‘baseless’ charge received a swift response from the Election Commission of India (ECI), which dismissed the allegations as ‘frivolous and misleading’. Tejashwi Yadav-led RJD claimed that the strongholds of Mahagathbandhan are being ‘targeted’ by cutting off electricity at its polling booths, where its supporters have gathered in large numbers to cast their votes. “Electricity is being cut off intermittently at the strong booths of the Mahagathbandhan with the intention of slowing down the voting. Slow voting is being deliberately caused,” the RJD claimed in a post on X. It also urged the ECI to take immediate cognisance of such “rigging with malicious intent and mala fide intentions” and take prompt action. The Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar was quick to reject the RJD’s charges as misleading and misguiding. It said that voting was underway smoothly and seamlessly in all polling booths of Bihar and added that all standard protocols are being followed to ensure that the voting process is fair, transparent, and uninterrupted. “This allegation is completely baseless and misleading. Former US Vice President Dick Cheney passes away at 84

Washington: Dick Cheney, the hard-charging conservative who became one of the most powerful and polarising Vice Presidents in US history and a leading advocate for the invasion of Iraq, has died at age 84. The quietly forceful Cheney served father and son presidents, leading the armed forces as defence chief during the Persian Gulf War under President George H.W. Bush before returning to public life as vice president under Bush’s son, George W. Bush. Cheney was, in effect, the chief operating officer of the younger Bush’s presidency. He had a hand, often a commanding one, in implementing decisions most important to the president and some of surpassing interest to himself — all while living with decades of heart disease and, post-administration, a heart transplant. Cheney consistently defended the extraordinary tools of surveillance, detention and inquisition employed in response to the terrorist attacks of Sept.

Jaishankar (@DrSJaishankar) November 4, 2025 “India stands with our Global South partners in the face of such natural disasters and will assist our friends in recovery and reconstruction,” he added. Hurricane Melissa, one of the strongest Atlantic storms on record, caused widespread devastation across the Caribbean, leaving dozens dead and communities cut off. Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica October 28 as a Category 5 hurricane, the strongest storm in the island’s recorded history. The hurricane caused severe damage to infrastructure, downed power lines, and left most of the country without electricity. Many areas remain inaccessible, and the full scale of destruction is still being assessed. Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness declared Jamaica a disaster area as emergency crews launched rescue and relief operations. The eye of the hurricane passed over the island’s western parishes, sparing the capital, Kingston, from the worst of the impact. The storm made landfall in Cuba October 29 as an “extremely dangerous” Category 3 hurricane, according to the US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) in Miami. Cuban authorities said the island suffered “significant damage”, with rising river levels isolating around 140,000 people. The storm then moved off the island and into the Atlantic Ocean, also causing destruction in the Bahamas.
