UK braces for snow and ice as travel disruptions loom

As snow began falling in some regions, widespread yellow warnings remain in place for Wednesday, News.Az reports, citing BBC. Higher ground in Wales, northern England, Northern Ireland, and Scotland is expected to see the heaviest snowfall. In addition, the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued yellow and amber cold-health alerts until Saturday, warning of “significant” impacts on the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions. An area of rain, sleet and snow moved across the UK overnight into Wednesday morning, leading to some icy patches and some areas waking up to a covering of snow. Some ferries have been cancelled in Scotland and in Wales and Derbyshire there is disruption on main roads. Meanwhile a more severe amber warning has been issued for Thursday for northern England. The Met Office said ice could create some particularly tricky travel conditions. Darren Clark, a severe weather resilience adviser for National Highways - which looks after England's major roads - has urged all drivers to check lights and tyres before setting off so not to be caught out. He added there are more than more than 500 gritters available to be called on when snow hits. Motorists are also advised to have food, clothing and a torch in their vehicles. Drivers travelling in both directions along the A628 Woodhead Pass between Hollingworth and Flouch in Derbyshire face delays from snow, National Highways has said. Meanwhile in Wales, the B4391 in Gwynedd between Rhyd y Sarn and Pen y Bryn has been closed in both directions, in the country's north-west. Traffic Scotland, which monitors the country's roads, has said that frequent snow showers may lead to disruption in areas with weather warnings, and has issued similar advice to people travelling by road. Gritters are patrolling roads to carry out extra treatment where needed in south-east and north-west Scotland, according to Bear Scotland, which maintains trunk roads. Calmac ferries in Scotland have warned some services have been cancelled, while others are liable to disruption or cancellation at short notice. Bus and train service delays and cancellations are also possible. Travellers are advised to plan their route, check for any delays, closures or cancellations, and give themselves ample time to prepare and travel. Hills of Wales, northern England, Northern Ireland and Scotland are forecast to see around 2-5cm (0.8-2in) of accumulating snow, with more on higher ground. Through Wednesday, parts of south-west Wales and south-west England will continue to see wintry showers move through, with potential for some disruption due to settling snow over high ground. Met Office yellow warnings for the Midlands and southern Scotland were in place until 11:00 GMT, while snow and ice warnings in Northern Ireland, northern Scotland, south-west Wales, and other parts of England will remain into Thursday. The North York Moors and even parts of the Yorkshire Wolds will see a more severe Met Office amber warning come into force from 05:00 to 21:00 GMT on Thursday. By the end of Thursday, those hills above 100m elevation could accumulate as much as 15-25 cm. This is likely to cause substantial disruption with rural communities being cut off, vehicles becoming stranded and potential for power cuts. Gusty winds leading to blizzards and thunderstorms - thundersnow - may bring additional hazards.

EU Ambassador calls Russia’s nighttime strike on Ternopil “real hell”

Mathernova said that while the night was relatively calm in Kyiv, “the rest of Ukraine was burning and suffering,” pointing to an assault involving 470 drones and 48 missiles targeting western regions and Kharkiv, News.Az reports, citing foreign media. According to the ambassador, several energy facilities were hit in the Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv regions, injuring three people, including two children. In Novhorod-Siverskyi in the Chernihiv region, a drone struck a private home, though no casualties were reported.Kharkiv experienced widespread destruction as 18 drones hit residential buildings. The city of Ternopil, however, suffered the heaviest blow. Mathernova said the city was experiencing “real hell,” as rescue workers searched through collapsed residential buildings. “Friends of the victims described a night you cannot forget — chaos, fire, screams,” she said. Local authorities reported at least 16 dead and around 40 wounded, including 12 children. The number of casualties may rise as search operations continue. Mathernova stressed that Russia’s attack was deliberately aimed at civilians, describing it as an attempt “to erase people and their lives,” not a battle against the Ukrainian military. “Ukraine is under constant fire. Civilians are dying, energy facilities are being destroyed, and winter is approaching,” she said. “My heart goes out to all families of those killed in last night’s attack.” Ukraine reported that Russian forces launched nearly 50 missiles and 476 drones of various types overnight. Air defense units shot down the majority of incoming threats, but debris and direct strikes still caused major destruction.

Target profit plunges amid weak consumer spending

The Minneapolis-based company warned Wednesday that its sales slump is likely to continue through the crucial holiday shopping season, News.Az reports, citing AP. Investors have reacted harshly to the company’s struggles, driving its stock down 43% over the past year. Shares dipped further in premarket trading. Turning around the 19% profit slide in the most recent quarter is the latest challenge to incoming CEO Michael Fiddelke, a 20-year company veteran who is replacing CEO Brian Cornell. The handover arrives as the retailer tries to reverse a persistent sales malaise and to revive its reputation as the place to go for affordable but stylish products. Target’s troubles stand in stark contrast to rival Walmart, the nation’s largest retailer, which is thriving. Walmart reports on its most recent quarterly performance Thursday. Target announced in October that it was eliminating about 1,800 corporate positions in an effort to streamline decision-making and accelerate initiatives to rebuild the flagging customer base. The cuts represent about 8% of Target’s corporate workforce. To pump up sales, Target is offering more than 20,000 new items, twice as many as last year, and it has lowered prices on thousands of food, beverage and essential items. The company plans to spend $5 billion next year to remodeling its stores and and building new ones. “We have high but achievable aspirations for Target’s future, and we’re acting urgently to make the changes and investments,” Fiddelke told reporters on Tuesday. With about 1,980 U.S. stores, Target has struggled to find its footing since inflation caused pinched shoppers to curtail their discretionary spending. Customers have complained of messy stores with merchandise that did not reflect the expensive-looking but budget-priced niche that long ago earned the retailer the jokingly posh nickname “Tarzhay.” Consumer boycotts since late January, when Target joined rival Walmart and a number of other prominent American brands in scaling back its corporate diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, have compounded the predicament. Retailers have spent almost 11 months navigating President Donald Trump’s wide-ranging tariffs on imports and his immigration crackdown that threatened to shrink the supply of workers. The just ended 43-day federal shutdown is expected to be another drag on an economy, though its full impact will take months to measure. Government contract awards have slowed and many food aid recipients have seen their benefits interrupted. Fiddelke told reporters that the company saw a weaker September but he said it was “tricky for us to isolate” the different factors behind that. The retailer’s profit fell to $689 million in the three-month period ended Nov. 1, or $1.51 per share. That compares with $854 million, or $1.85 per share, in the year-ago period. Adjusted per share results was $1.78. Sales fell 1.5% to $25.27 billion. Analysts expected profits of $1.71 per share on sales of $25.33 billion.

Russian spy ship targets UK military pilots with lasers

John Healey warned that Britain “is ready” to respond should the ship move further south, sending a clear message to Russia. The vessel, designed for gathering intelligence and mapping crucial undersea cables, is loitering off the northern coast of Scotland, having entered wider UK waters over the last few weeks. Mr Healey told a Downing Street press conference on Wednesday: “We deployed a Royal Navy frigate and RAF P-8 planes to monitor and track this vessel’s every move, during which the Yantar directed lasers at our pilots. “That Russian action is deeply dangerous. This is the second time this year that this ship, the Yantar, has deployed to UK waters. “My message to Russia and to Putin is this: We see you. We know what you’re doing. If the Yantar travels south this week, we are ready.”He also said: “It is part of a Russian fleet designed to put and hold our undersea infrastructure and those of our allies at risk. “It isn’t just a naval operation. It’s part of a Russian programme driven by what they call the Main Directorate of Deep-Sea Research, or GUGI, and this is designed to have capabilities which can undertake surveillance in peacetime and sabotage in conflict.” In January, it emerged the Yantar was caught lurking over undersea cables and was warned off by a Royal Navy nuclear-powered submarine. The UK and Nato allies are increasingly concerned about the risk Moscow poses to offshore cables, pipelines and other infrastructure critical to internet connectivity. Attacks on undersea cables could cause “catastrophic disruption” to the financial and communications systems Britons rely on, the National Security Strategy Committee warned in a September report.

Azerbaijani FM, U.S. official discuss partnership, regional security

The two sides welcomed the agreements reached during the historic Washington meeting between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, stressing the importance of joint efforts to advance the strategic partnership between Baku and Washington. They noted the need to strengthen cooperation on regional stability, energy security, and the expansion of transport corridors. In this context, Azerbaijan expressed interest in accelerating U.S. work on the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), aimed at ensuring seamless connectivity between mainland Azerbaijan and its Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. The sides also reviewed the areas of activity of the Strategic Working Group established to prepare a Strategic Partnership Charter designed to enhance cooperation in fields of mutual interest. They highlighted the importance of creating an institutional framework for practical bilateral engagement. Bayramov and Hooker discussed the peace and stability agenda in the South Caucasus, as well as future plans within bilateral and multilateral formats. The minister briefed his counterpart on steps taken within the normalisation process and on post-conflict reconstruction efforts. The meeting also included an exchange of views on the situation in the Middle East and other regional issues of mutual interest.

Gandhi Maidan vs Ashram: Prashant Kishor emerges as tallest Opposition leader

"You are not defeated until you quit," said Prashant Kishor in his first public reactions after the NDA swept the Assembly election in Bihar. And far from quitting, the Jan Suraaj chief came out as the main Opposition leader, challenging the victorious JD(U)-BJP combine. PK's press conference came even as RJD's Tejashwi Yadav and Congress's Rahul Gandhi remained conspicuous in their post-poll absence.Prashant Kishor not only promised to help women to get the promised money by the incoming NDA government, he also timed a 24-hour period of silence and hunger with the Nitish Kumar-led ministry's oath-taking ceremony on November 20.PK's choice of the venue for the "repentance" is symbolic too. While the Nitish Kumar government will take oath at Patna's Gandhi Maidan, PK will be fasting at the Gandhi Ashram at Bhitiharwa in West Champaran, linked to MK Gandhi's Satyagrah in 1917.PK's assertion came even as the RJD and Congress leaders stayed away from the public after their poll drubbing. Neither Rahul Gandhi nor Tejashwi Yadav has come out in public after November 14, when the Bihar Assembly election results were declared..preferred-source-banner{ margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom:10px;}Though the Jan Suraaj Party has failed to bag any seats, it has impressed by cornering around 3.5% of the votes polled in the Bihar Assembly election.PK has not only emerged as a credible alternative in a state that has seen its politics calcify on caste lines, but in taking responsibility for the defeat, congratulating the NDA and turning Jan Suraaj into a watchdog, he is emerging as the tallest Opposition leader. In the press conference, Prashant Kishor began by acknowledging the abysmal performance of the Jan Suraaj. Though the party got 3.34% of the vote share, it failed to win any seats. According to reports, 236 of its 238 contesting candidates had to forfeit their deposits due to the poor show. The silver lining was that candidates of the Jan Suraaj emerged as the third candidate in 129 seats and second in one seat.PRASHANT KISHOR'S CHALLENGE TO NDAWhile accepting defeat, Prashant Kishor didn't sound defeated. He went on to challenge the JD(U), also addressing the question whether he would give up on his political quest."If the Nitish government gives Rs 2 lakh to 1.5 crore women, as it promised, I will definitely quit politics," said Prashant Kishor. "If they actually implement this scheme, forget politics, I will leave Bihar itself."He put the incoming NDA government, likely to be led by Nitish Kumar, on a six-month notice to fulfil the "promise of giving Rs 2 lakh to 1.5 crore women".PK alleged that the Nitish Kumar dispensation used Jeevika Didi, Asha workers and other government officials to amp up the promise. Likening them to "Sahara agents", he said the people would come to them if money wasn't paid.He shared a helpline number—9121691216—for women to reach out to Jan Suraaj members and assured that party members would accompany them to government offices to press for the money.PRASHANT KISHOR FILLING TEJASHWI YADAV, RAHUL GANDHI VACUUMThere have been questions about the whereabouts of Rahul Gandhi, who had not been seen in Bihar after his initial campaign on "vote chori".After the election results were declared, the Congress leader posted a message on X, calling the outcome "surprising", adding that the process was "unfair from the very start".Tejashwi hasn't commented on the results and must be busy addressing the "ghar ka kalesh", with sister Rohini Yadav in open rebellion against him and two of his most-trusted lieutenants. Three other sisters have reportedly moved out of Lalu Yadav's Patna residence.Neither Tejashwi nor Rahul met party workers who toiled hard, neither did they offer to console them. It is PK who seems to be filling the vacuum in the opposition.PERIOD OF STRUGGLE HAS STARTED, SAYS PRASHANT KISHOR"We may have made mistakes, but we have not committed the crime of divisive politics or buying votes of innocent people," said Prashant Kishor. It is highly unlikely that PK, who was a poll strategist in his earlier avatar, was unaware of what was coming for the Jan Suraaj Party in this election. That is most likely the reason why he said Jan Suraaj would either be "arsh par" (on the zenith) or "farsh par" (on the ground) after the election. That was a hint that the party could end up winning close to nothing. No politician, despite the headwinds and ground realities, ever declares before an election that their party is losing. But that was the closest PK came to hinting at what was in store for Jan Suraaj on its poll debut.Prashant Kishor, who brought the narrative of unemployment, mass migration and self-respect in the election, has indicated that he is digging in his heels."Today is definitely a jolt, but our victory will certainly come in the future. I will not leave Bihar. The hard work we put in for three years, we will now work twice as hard," he said."Ab salah ka samay khatm hua. Ab shangarsh ka samay shuru hoga," said PK, explaining that the time for struggle is starting. Now, Prashant Kishor is returning from where he started the Jan Suraaj movement on October 2, 2022. He will be in West Champaran on November 20 for his hunger fast, the same place from where Gandhi started the Satyagrah in 1917.Prashant Kishor's sharing of a helpline number and putting the incoming government on a six-month notice on its poll promise shows that he is serious about his role of an Opposition leader. At the moment, he is not just the only visible Opposition leader, he is the tallest among them.- EndsPublished By: Sushim MukulPublished On: Nov 19, 2025Tune InMust Watch

Paul Stanley Teases New KISS Music, Talks Ace Frehley Legacy

Paul Stanley says KISS is possibly going to release some new music ... and he's remembering Ace Frehley's rock and roll legacy. We got Paul in Beverly Hills on Tuesday and our photog asked him about rumblings that KISS is working on new music. Paul indicates that's in the cards and tells us what some new KISS music might sound like. We also asked Paul about lyrics and he says even though KISS is getting up there in age, there's some timeless topics they can still rock out too ... freedom, self-empowerment, and enjoying life. Paul's been pretty outspoken about his love for Ace, who died last month after his family made the difficult decision to take him off his ventilator ... and Paul tells us how Ace helped make KISS into what it is today. No word when new KISS music might drop ... so stay tuned.

Wall Street tumbles despite positive Nvidia earnings report

NEW YORK, New York - A better-than-expected jobs report failed to stem the selling on Wall Street on Thursday, reversing the gains of a day earlier, and adding to the volatility of the week's trading. "Total nonfarm payroll employment edged up by 119,000 in September but has shown little change since April, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday. "The unemployment rate, at 4.4 percent, changed little in September. Employment continued to trend up in health care, food services and drinking places, and social assistance. Job losses occurred in transportation and warehousing and in federal government."Tech stocks sold off despite a better-than-expected third-quarter earnings result which saw revenue advance 62 percent year-on-year. "There's been a lot of talk about an AI bubble, Jensen Huang, Nvidia's CEO told investors on a call,. "From our vantage point, we see something very different." Thursday's losses accelerated into the close, pulling all three major U.S. benchmarks into negative territory for the session. Standard and Poor's 500 drops more than one and a half percent The Standard and Poor's 500 posted a broad decline, falling 103.40 points, or 1.56 percent, to finish at 6,538.76. Most sectors closed lower, with technology, communication services, and consumer discretionary stocks among the weakest performers amid renewed valuation concerns. Dow industrials slide but outperform broader market The Dow Jones Industrial Average also moved lower but held up better than the tech-heavy indexes. The blue-chip benchmark dropped 386.51 points, or 0.84 percent, to close at 45,752.26. Losses in industrials, financials, and healthcare contributed to the decline, though some defensive names helped cushion the fall. Nasdaq leads declines as tech retreat accelerates The Nasdaq Composite recorded the steepest pullback of the session, sinking 486.18 points, or 2.15 percent, to end at 22,078.05. High-growth and semiconductor stocks were hit particularly hard as traders rotated away from risk-sensitive sectors. Market outlook Investors remained cautious amid uncertainty over central bank policy paths and mixed economic data. Analysts noted that Thursday's decline reflected a wider reassessment of risk appetite, particularly in technology shares, which have led markets higher for much of the year. U.S. dollar strengthens broadly as euro slips and commodity-linked currencies retreat The U.S. dollar advanced against most major currencies on Thursday, lifted by firmer Treasury yields and renewed demand for safe-haven assets amid lingering uncertainty in global equity markets. While the greenback posted its strongest gains against the Canadian, Australian, and New Zealand dollars, it also edged higher versus the euro. Euro weakens as U.S. dollar finds renewed support The euro slipped modestly, with EUR/USD easing to 1.1528, down 0.07 percent. Traders cited mixed economic data from the eurozone and a firmer U.S. dollar tone ahead of key inflation indicators due later in the week. Dollar climbs against yen as rate differentials remain in focus The U.S. dollar strengthened against the yen, rising 0.30 percent to 157.60 in USD/JPY trade. Investors continued to monitor commentary from the Bank of Japan, with speculation persisting that policy normalisation will remain gradual despite inflation pressures. Canadian dollar softens as U.S. dollar gains momentum The Canadian dollar retreated, with USD/CAD climbing 0.35 percent to 1.4097. Softer crude oil prices and a stronger U.S. dollar contributed to the move. British pound edges higher The British pound posted a slight increase, with GBP/USD ticking up 0.14 percent to 1.3075, supported by stable gilt yields and cautious optimism around the UK's economic outlook. Swiss franc eases as dollar firms The Swiss franc slipped mildly, with USD/CHF up 0.06 percent at 0.8059, reflecting modest dollar strength and lighter safe-haven demand. Commodity currencies fall as global sentiment wavers The Australian dollar dropped 0.48 percent, with AUD/USD moving to 0.6446, pressured by softer Asian risk sentiment and weaker commodity prices. The New Zealand dollar also declined, falling 0.21 percent to 0.5591 in NZD/USD trading. Market outlook The overall tone in currency markets reflected a cautious stance, with investors awaiting fresh global economic data and central bank commentary. The U.S. dollar's broad-based gains suggested markets were positioning defensively as uncertainties persisted across equities and commodities. Global stocks finish Thursday mixed as Asia rallies, Europe steadies, Canada Dives Global equity markets ended Thursday's session with a broadly mixed performance, as strong gains across Asia contrasted with steadier trade in Europe and isolated pockets of weakness in the Middle East and Africa. Investors weighed upbeat earnings signals in parts of Asia-Pacific against lingering concerns over global growth, inflation, and the path of central bank policy. UK and Europe posts modest gains across major indices The FTSE 100 extending its recent climb. The London benchmark added 20.24 points, rising 0.21 percent to finish at 9,527.65, trading between 9,507.40 and 9,593.83 through the session. European markets closed mostly higher. Germany's DAX gained 115.93 points, or 0.50 percent, to close at 23,278.85. France's CAC 40 followed the same trend, rising 27.30 points, or 0.34 percent, to 7,981.07. The wider eurozone also firmed, with the EURO STOXX 50 up 27.87 points, or 0.50 percent, ending at 5,569.92. The Euronext 100 improved by 7.43 points, a gain of 0.44 percent, closing at 1,686.15. Belgium's BEL 20 inched higher as well, rising 6.92 points, or 0.14 percent, to finish at 4,971.48. Canadian Markets Slump Canada's main index lost ground. The S&P/TSX Composite Index declined 371.86 points, or 1.23 percent, to close at 29,906.55. Weakness in energy producers and mining stocks weighed on the Toronto market, mirroring declines in global commodity prices. Mixed performance across Middle East & Africa Israel's TA-125 index retreated, falling 38.02 points, or 1.11 percent, to 3,400.30. Egypt's EGX 30 also slipped, closing at 40,302.40, down 206.80 points, or 0.51 percent.South Africa's Top 40 USD Net TRI Index ended at 6,541.57 (movement not provided). Asia-Pacific leads global gains with strong rallies in Japan, Taiwan, and Australia Asia delivered the strongest momentum globally, with several major indices recording substantial gains. Japan's Nikkei 225 surged 1,286.24 points, finishing 2.65 percent higher at 49,823.94, powered by technology and export-linked shares. Taiwan's TAIEX (TWSE) jumped 846.24 points, soaring 3.18 percent to 27,426.36—one of its strongest single-day moves in months. South Korea's KOSPI also rallied, climbing 75.34 points, or 1.92 percent, to 4,004.85. Australia posted solid advances across both major benchmarks: The S&P/ASX 200 gained 104.80 points, up 1.24 percent, to 8,552.70. The broader All Ordinaries rose 112.60 points, or 1.29 percent, closing at 8,834.00. New Zealand's NZX 50 strengthened by 112.50 points, or 0.84 percent, ending the day at 13,439.40. Elsewhere in Asia: Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index finished nearly flat, up 4.92 points, or 0.02 percent, at 25,835.57. Singapore's STI increased 6.65 points, or 0.15 percent, to 4,511.87. Indonesia's IDX Composite edged up 13.34 points, or 0.16 percent, to 8,419.92. India's S&P BSE Sensex added 446.21 points, gaining 0.52 percent, to close at 85,632.68. China's SSE Composite Index slipped 15.69 points, or 0.40 percent, to finish at 3,931.05, weighed down by ongoing concerns about property-sector stability and sluggish domestic demand. Malaysia's KLCI weakened, falling 3.93 points, or 0.24 percent, to close at 1,619.96. Overall global picture Thursday's trade highlighted ongoing divergence between regions. While Asia-Pacific markets saw robust buying, Europe's gains were more measured, and selected Middle Eastern and African markets faced renewed pressure. With global economic uncertainty persisting, investors continue to navigate a cautious path, balancing optimism in parts of the Asia-Pacific region with broader macroeconomic challenges. Chargers' Ladd McConkey Eyes 2028 Olympics in Flag Football, 'I'm Ready for It

Los Angeles Chargers wideout Ladd McConkey threw his hat in the ring for flag football's Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games. "Bring it on," he told Jordan Schultz. "I'm ready for it. Man, sign me up. If I have a chance to go compete for the country, win a gold medal? C'mon, who would turn that down? That'd be sick." In May, NFL team owners voted to allow NFL players to try out for and participate in the event, so McConkey's dream could become a reality. Only one player per NFL team will be eligible, however. "I think this news represents a great opportunity for the sport, for the NFL," commissioner Roger Goodell told reporters at the time. "It's truly the next step in making NFL football and football a global sport for men and women of all ages and all opportunities across the globe. We think that's the right thing to do, and this is a big step in accomplishing that." It remains to be seen if NFL players will make the cut though, given that the United States has a well-established flag football team that has won "eight consecutive International Federation of American Football events, five world championships, three continental championships and the 2022 World Games," per Tim Graham of The Athletic. So McConkey may want in, but the competition will be stiff.

Lane Kiffin Dodges Questions on LSU, Florida Rumors, Alleged Call with Louisiana Gov.

Ole Miss football head coach Lane Kiffin declined to directly address questions about the open Florida and LSU jobs during the weekly SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday, per Chris Vannini of The Athletic. He also declined to answer whether he spoke with Louisiana governor Jeff Landry about the LSU position. Per Wilson Alexander of The Advocate, the Kiffin family has visited Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Gainesville, Florida. "LSU officials arranged for a private plane to bring several of Kiffin's family members, including his ex-wife, Layla Kiffin, to Baton Rouge for a visit Monday, multiple sources told The Advocate," Alexander wrote. "They went to Gainesville, Florida, the day before. Kiffin declined to answer what they learned from the trips." LSU and Florida are in the market for new head coaches after parting ways this season with Brian Kelly and Billy Napier, respectively. Time is of the essence for Kiffin to make a decision on his future, per Stewart Mandel of The Athletic. "Ole Miss has given Lane Kiffin an ultimatum to decide his future before the Nov. 28 Egg Bowl against Mississippi State, a person briefed on the discussions told The Athletic. "Kiffin, whose 10-1 team is off this week, is considered a candidate for open jobs at both Florida and LSU." Brett McMurphy of On3 added more on the subject. During an appearance on Tuesday's edition of the Pat McAfee Show, Kiffin denied that he's been given an ultimatum. "Yeah, that's absolutely not true," Kiffin said, per ESPN's Mark Schlabach. "There has been no ultimatum, anything like that at all. And so I don't know where that came from, like a lot of stuff that comes out there. Like I said, man, we're having a blast. I love it here." All of this is going down as the Rebels are enjoying one of the best seasons in program history. Ole Miss is sitting sixth in the College Football Playoff rankings. A win over Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl will assuredly secure the team a spot in the CFP, marking the first time Ole Miss will make the tournament. In the meantime, the rumors will not subside until Kiffin makes a decision on his future. He was asked on Wednesday's call whether it's flattering or overwhelming to have three fanbases interested in him being their team's head coach and provided this response. For now, it's a wait-and-see game in Oxford, Baton Rouge and Gainesville regarding the fate of Kiffin (and the future of their programs).

Will Florida Hire Tulane's Jon Sumrall as New HC? CFB Insider Gives Latest Update

Florida reportedly had an interview with a coaching candidate set for this week, but now it appears the interview is off. Per On3's Pete Nakos, Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall will no longer meet with the Gators after previously having a meeting scheduled for Thursday. According to Nakos, "the meeting on the books has been called off." Sumrall has been a popular name in this year's coaching carousel, being linked to Auburn along with Florida. It's unclear whether he is pulling his name out of the race for the job in Gainesville or if he's keeping his focus on the rest of the season in New Orleans. Last month, Sumrall made it clear he wasn't interested in discussing head coaching vacancies during the season. "The coaching carousel to me is not even a thought because we're in the midseason phase," Sumrall said ahead of Tulane's contest with UTSA (h/t 247Sports' Graham Hall). "So whatever somebody else wants to do, another program wants to do, what people want to speculate, they're free to do that. UTSA has my 100% focus. Our team playing the best it can has my 100% focus." Sumrall is in his fourth season as a head coach. He was Troy's head coach from 2022 to 2023 before taking over at Tulane. He has a 40-11 record as a head coach with a pair of Sun Belt titles on his resume. This year, Sumrall has the Green Wave sitting at 8-2, ranked No. 24 in the most recent College Football Playoff poll. As the rankings stand now, Tulane would get into the CFP as the highest-ranked Group of Five team. If the season ended today, the Green Wave would have a first-round matchup against No. 5 Texas Tech. Despite his team's CFP standing, Sumrall is not satisfied by what he's seen this year. "I'll just be very candid, there's some days I feel like we're one of the bottom 25 teams in the country watching us play," he said. "If we want to start feeling comfortable or casual about somebody wanting to vote us in the top 25 teams. There must be a lot of bad football going on if we're one of the top 25 teams... We're average. We're an average team." Sumrall and the Green Wave will look to improve their Playoff chances in their final two games against Temple and Charlotte.

Mexico to host 6-team playoff tournament for World Cup spots

(Photo credit: Jessica Alcheh-Imagn Images) Two FIFA World Cup 2026 spots will be up for grabs in a six-team playoff tournament that will take place during March in Mexico. Iraq, Congo, Jamaica, Suriname, Bolivia and New Caledonia will gather March 23-31 in the cities of Guadalajara and Monterrey for one last chance at making the World Cup, which will start in June and take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Guadalajara will play host to four group-stage matchups in the World Cup, while Monterrey will be the site of a round-of-32 match. Guadalajara Stadium is the home of Liga MX's C.D. Guadalajara, while Monterrey Stadium is the home of Rayados. 'These iconic stadiums are the perfect stages for what promises to be a thrilling event filled with passion, drama and excitement,' FIFA President Gianni Infantino said of the six-team playoff. The draw for the playoff tournament is scheduled to take place Thursday at Zurich, Switzerland. The match schedule will be completed after the draw. The final draw for FIFA World Cup 2026 will take place Dec. 5 at Washington, D.C. The opening World Cup games will take place June 11 at Mexico City and Guadalajara, with games at Toronto and Los Angeles on June 12. --Field Level Media

Spain leads, U.S. rises in latest FIFA men's world ranking

(Photo credit: Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images) Spain maintained its top spot in the latest FIFA men's world rankings in advance of the 2026 World Cup, while the United States men's national team moved up two spots to overtake rival Mexico. The United States' 5-1 thrashing of Uruguay at Tampa, Fla., on Tuesday, moved the team up two spots in the rankings to No. 14, while Mexico moved down a spot to No. 15. Spain is followed in the rankings by Argentina, France, England and Brazil, which moved up two spots. Portugal, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Croatia round out the top 10. Morocco (11), Italy (12) and Colombia (13) were ranked ahead of the USMNT, with Italy dropping three spots. After Mexico in the No. 15 spot, the top 20 included Uruguay (16), Switzerland (17), Japan (18), Senegal (19) and Iran (20). Led by head coach Mauricio Pochettino, the United States has used varying lineups of late while still earning positive results as the team cruised past Uruguay, which dropped a spot in the rankings with the loss. The statement game tied the largest margin of victory for the USMNT against an opponent in the top 15 of the FIFA rankings and it came without the services of Christian Pulisic, Timothy Weah, Tyler Adams, Weston McKennie and Chris Richards. The national team had a 4-0 victory over then-No. 7 Mexico in 1995. Pochettino made nine changes to a lineup that had just earned a 2-1 victory over Paraguay. 'There is still a lot of work to do, but I think it's about to keep believing, it's to keep pushing,' Pochettino said. The USMNT is scheduled to play its first World Cup game in 2026 at Inglewood, Calif., on June 12, with four more international friendlies on the schedule before then, including matches against Portugal and Belgium in March. --Field Level Media
