American Troops Dodge Bullets In Haiti As Gangs Plague Country

U.S. Marines guarding the U.S. Embassy in Haiti dodged bullets Thursday from suspected gang members days before gang leader Jimmy “Barbecue” Chérizier reportedly threatened violence. The Marines protecting the embassy in Port-au-Prince exchanged gunfire Thursday with suspected gang members, U.S. Marines spokesperson Capt. Steven J. Keenan confirmed via email, The Associated Press (AP) reported. None of the Marines were injured in the attack. Haitian police did not immediately comment on the incident to the AP. The gunfire preceded a recent video from Chérizier warning people to stay home on Nov. 17 so they wouldn’t “become victims” to violence, according to a translation of a report by KAPZY News “In a video released on the evening of November 15, 2025, Jimmy Cherisier, alias ‘Barbecue,’ presenting himself as the president and spokesperson of ‘Viv Ansanm,’ a group designated as a terrorist organization by the United States, urged the population to stay home starting Monday, November 17, ‘so as not to become victims.’ He claims that the battle has now begun and that members of ‘Viv Ansanm’ will occupy the streets to confront the police,” the video’s translated caption reads. The U.S. Embassy issued a security alert Nov. 17 saying they were cutting staffing amid increased security operations in Port-au-Prince, Haiti’s capital. Alleged threats from gangs convinced United Nations (UN) security to direct staff in Haiti to work remotely, a spokesperson confirmed to Fox News. The nation’s gang suppression force — made up of Haitian National Police, military and a security unit led by Kenya — carried out operations last week that targeted 400 Mawozo and Chen Mechan gangs, their leadership and their bases, the Miami Herald reported. Leaders of Viv Ansanm allegedly threatened to shut down the nation following these security efforts. The U.S. State Department designated Viv Ansanmn and Gran Grif as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) and Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs) by the U.S. State Department on May 2, 2025. (RELATED: Trump-Aligned Private Military Boss Deploying Forces To Haiti For 10 Years) Gangs hold sway over 90% of the Haitian capital, frequently extorting businesses and waging war against each other, according to the AP.

Jonathan Turley Dumps Cold Water On Trump’s Chances In BBC Lawsuit — But Says There’s Hope Across The Pond

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley warned on Monday that President Donald Trump’s chances of winning a lawsuit against the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) could be slim, though he argued that success could be found if he sued the network in the United Kingdom. Trump said on Friday that he will likely sue the British government-funded BBC for up to $5 billion after they admitted to splicing two separate clips of the president’s speech together in a 2024 documentary about the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot. Turley said on Fox News’ “America Reports” that Trump is more likely to prove actual malice against BBC in the United Kingdom due to the U.S.’ protective standards for media organizations. “Well, there’s no question the president is right that this was misleading. It’s also very difficult to see how anyone editing those tapes could have believed that this represented what the president actually said. He made two points that were deleted,” Turley said. “One is we’re going to go peacefully to Capitol Hill, and second, the purpose was to cheer on our allies. Those would seem rather material points for any legitimate news organization … The problem is the legal standard. The irony is that the better place to file would be the United Kingdom.” “It’s easier to bring a defamation case there, but this case is probably a bit too late to file over in London. So they’re likely to file here in the United States, but we have a much more protective standard for the media and for free speech under what’s called the actual malice standard in a case called New York Times v. Sullivan,” Turley continued. (RELATED: ‘There Have Been Some Mistakes Made’: Two Top BBC Officials Resign Over Trump Documentary Edits) The editors for the documentary, “Trump: A Second Chance?,” combined two separate parts of Trump’s speech together which made it appear as if he explicitly encouraged violence ahead of the Capitol riot. The edits were first reported by Telegraph, which released a leaked BBC memo revealing that the edits had been made. The BBC’s edited version shows Trump saying, “We’re gonna walk down to the Capitol and I’ll be there with you and we fight, we fight like hell and if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not gonna have a country anymore.” But the original footage shows Trump saying, “We’re gonna walk to the Capitol and we’re gonna cheer on our brave senators and congressmen and women and we’re probably not gonna be cheering so much for some of them.” Turley said that the case against the BBC would be “challenging” since the network can argue that they admitted to wrongly editing the footage and that the action was not actual malice. “BBC can argue that ‘look, we messed up. We admitted it, it was bad editing. But this was not actual malice. In fact, what the editor was trying to do was capture what the editor believed was the thrust of his comments and that was to stir up the crowd and frankly get them angry,” Turley continued. “The question is whether the court and the jury will accept that. The court may be very concerned about the constitutional implications here. The Supreme Court said in New York Times v. Sullivan that it wanted to give some breathing room for media organization because of the role they play under the First Amendment. The BBC is going to be relying greatly on that breathing room.” The U.S. Supreme Court established the actual malice standard in the 1964 case, New York Times vs. Sullivan, which requires a public official to prove that a news organization knowingly made a false statement about them or published untrue information with reckless disregard for the truth. BBC Chair Samir Shah sent a letter to Trump on Thursday to apologize for the edits, saying that the edits gave “the mistaken impression that President Trump had made a direct call for violent action.” The network has argued there is no basis for a defamation lawsuit. The network has faced other accusations regarding bias in its coverage, including the Arabic-language version of BBC which has been forced to correct more than 100 stories a year about the war in Gaza. The network has also used terms such as “gender affirming care” and “gender identity” in its coverage about transgender issues. It also appeared to favor stories that shed a positive light on trans surgeries and medical procedures and often omitted critical perspectives. “While the BBC sincerely regrets the manner in which the video clip was edited, we strongly disagree there is a basis for a defamation claim,” a BBC spokesperson told the Washington Examiner. Ousted Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sentenced To Death After Months-Long Trial

Bangladesh’s ousted prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, was sentenced to death in absentia Monday by the country’s International Crimes Tribunal after a months-long trial that found she ordered a lethal crackdown on student-led protests in 2024. The verdict follows a United Nations human rights inquiry that estimated up to 1,400 people were killed and thousands injured during the July–August 2024 uprising, the worst political violence since Bangladesh’s 1971 war. The caretaker administration led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus urged calm and said it would deal strictly with unrest as Dhaka demanded India extradite Hasina, who fled there in August 2024, according to Reuters. (RELATED: Protesters Force Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina To Flee Country After Two Decades Rule) “We have decided to inflict her with only one sentence, that is sentence of death,” Judge Golam Mortuza Mozumder said from the Dhaka tribunal, the outlet reported. Families of victims in the packed courtroom clapped as the judgment was read. Prosecutors told the court they had evidence of a direct order from Hasina to use live fire to suppress demonstrations, the outlet reported. India said it noted the verdict and would “engage constructively” without committing to extradition. Hasina, 78, dismissed the tribunal as “biased and politically motivated,” calling it a “rigged tribunal” in a statement sent to media after the ruling. Her Awami League has been banned from contesting elections expected in February. Security forces were deployed around government buildings and the tribunal complex as tensions spiked ahead of the decision, with at least 30 crude bombs reportedly detonated and vehicles torched in recent days. Yunus said the path forward requires rebuilding trust between citizens and institutions, while the interim government warned that any attempt to create disorder would be dealt with strictly. The U.N. report, released in February, alleged widespread shootings of unarmed protesters and mass detentions, and urged prosecutions that meet international standards.

SC: Won't allow reservation to exceed 50% in Maha civic polls

NEW DELHI: A day before scrutiny of nomination papers for the Maharashtra civic body elections is scheduled to begin, Supreme Court on Monday said it would not permit total reservations for SC, ST and OBCs to exceed the 50% limit, and warned that it would stop the nomination process in those constituencies where quota breached the ceiling.Appearing for certain petitioners, senior advocate Vikas Singh said there are civic bodies in which the 27% reservation for OBCs took the total quota beyond the 50% ceiling in violation of SC's May 6 order, which had directed Election Commission to follow the OBC reservation specifications as existed before the Banthia Commission's report of July 2022.SC said since recommendations of the Banthia Commission have not yet been fully crystallised by the state govt, the elections to local bodies - 409 urban local bodies and over 28,000 rural local bodies - will be held as per the OBC reservation applicable to constituencies prior to July 2010.Solicitor general Tushar Mehta and senior advocate Shekhar Naphade told a bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi that the process of scrutiny of nomination papers commences from Tuesday and that it was not appropriate for the petitioners to move court at this late stage. "Do not exceed the 50% limit, we have not permitted this. We never allowed the reserved seats to exceed 50% of the total seats," the bench repeatedly told Mehta, who requested for adjournment. The bench posted the matter for further hearing on Wednesday. While allowing the short adjournment, the bench said it would stall the process for all civic bodies where that the total reserved seats was found to exceed 50%.

Amherst officials: Heat, not water pressure, led to loss of Olympia Place

AMHERST — Amherst officials are continuing to confirm that water pressure was a problem encountered during the firefighting efforts to combat the blaze that destroyed the Olympia Place apartment building more than a week ago, though they are putting blame on the intense heat coming from a neighboring construction site where the fire originated as the reason the building had to come down. “Water did become an issue, but did not ultimately contribute to the loss of the building at #57 Olympia Drive,” reads a statement included in a frequently asked questions fact sheet posted to the town website late Friday. Officials are reiterating that firefighters, who arrived on the scene Nov. 7 around 8:19 p.m., were hampered by poor water pressure, in advance of the decision by Amherst Fire Chief Lindsay Stromgren ordering the building’s demolition as the best way to get the fire under control: “While our water supply itself was sufficient, the existing water piping in that location could not meet the high demand needed during this intense fire.” The information includes details that firefighters had access to three fire hydrants on Olympia Drive and one fire hydrant on Village Park Road, and numerous tankers arriving at the scene from mutual aid partners. An after-action analysis of the incident, including a thorough review of staffing, response and operations, will be posted to the town website once complete. The town is also reviewing all construction sites and plans are underway to ensure all safety measures are being followed. During a monthly Cuppa Joe Friday morning, held at Futura Coffee in the Mill District in North Amherst, Town Manager Paul Bockelman said the investigation by the state fire marshal is focused on the construction site, where the fire began, and not Olympia Place, which opened in 2016 and housed 230 people, almost all students at the University of Massachusetts “They feel like they know what happened in the other building,” Bockelman said. At that construction site, town officials say that the new building had been progressing as expected, having risen to four floors, and was following all building codes and fire standards. Permits were issued for all completed steps of the project, and other permits were in process for the next phase. A permit had also been issued for diesel fuel storage, which stayed intact during the fire. The construction site had an active NFPA 241 Construction Fire Safety Plan that was being followed, based on fire department inspections, and once that building reached 40 feet, the plan was for the builders to meet with fire officials again to implement additional fire protection measures, as required by the NFPA 241. The high water use to battle the fire, with 2.5 million gallons used in total, or almost as much as Amherst would typically use in a day, depleted water tanks and caused the request for residents to limit their water use. The original effort to battle the fire at the occupied building started inside, but firefighters had to get out when the floors became unstable. A total of 32 communities from Hampshire, Franklin, Hampden, Worcester and Berkshire counties responded. Their overtime and equipment costs are still being calculated, town officials said. In response to the fire union asking for 18 more firefighters, Bockelman said there are consistent challenges across departments in the region. “We’re having a hard time hiring people; everybody is,” Bockelman said. Amherst’s strategy, he said, has been to lower these standards by hiring those trained as EMTs who will commit to getting paramedic training. During the upcoming budget process, the town will also review staffing levels to ensure they support the day-to-day operations of town departments to keep Amherst safe.

Trump says World Cup ticket holders will get prioritized visa appointments

WASHINGTON :U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday said the United States is setting up a prioritized appointment scheduling system for foreign travelers with tickets to the 104 FIFA World Cup matches that will take place in the United States next year. "I've directed my administration to do everything within their power to make the 2026 World Cup an unprecedented success," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office as he announced the new appointment scheduling system. He said the soccer matches could bring in $30 billion for the United States and generate some 200,000 jobs. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the State Department would still vet all travelers, but had added 400 consular officers to deal with increased demand for visas.

Figurine of a woman and a goose offers peek at prehistoric beliefs

A clay figurine about 12,000 years old that was unearthed at the site of a prehistoric village overlooking the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel depicts a woman and a goose in what may be one of the world's oldest renderings of a mythological scene. Researchers said the figurine, about 1.5 inches (3.7 cm) tall, was discovered inside a semicircular stone structure about 16 feet (5 meters) in diameter at a site called Nahal Ein Gev II. The village was part of the Natufian culture of Southwest Asia, which straddled the prehistoric transition between nomadic hunter-gatherers and settled agriculturally based communities. It is the earliest-known figurine worldwide showing human interaction with an animal, according to Laurent Davin, a postdoctoral researcher in archaeology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and lead author of the study published on Monday in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. It is also the oldest-known naturalistic, rather than stylized, portrayal of a woman in art from Southwest Asia, Davin said. The goose is positioned on the crouching woman's back with its wings spread in a typical mating posture. The scene offers insight into this prehistoric culture's belief system, Hebrew University archaeologist and study co-author Leore Grosman said. "We interpreted the interaction scene as the depiction of the imagined mating between an animal spirit and a human. This theme is very common in animistic societies across the world in specific situations such as erotic dreams, shamanistic visions and myths," Grosman said. Animism is a belief system holding that natural things - living organisms such as plants and animals and inanimate objects like rocks and rivers - possess a spiritual essence. "The scene itself - depicting a sexualized interaction between a human and an animal - is part of a long tradition in myth. Such imagery is rarely meant to be literal. Instead, it often symbolizes fertility, spiritual beliefs or the sacredness of life," University of Connecticut anthropologist and study co-author Natalie Munro said. "In many myths across history and cultures, gods or beings take on hybrid human-animal forms to convey symbolic meanings, not actual sexual activity," Munro said. The figurine appears to be the oldest example of a mythological scene in Southwest Asia and one of the oldest worldwide, but is younger, for example, than an apparent mythological scene among the Lascaux Cave paintings in France dating to roughly 18,000 years ago, the researchers said. The figurine was sculpted from clay that was allowed to dry before being fired to make it durable, and later was colored with a red pigment, traces of which survive. A fingerprint of the sculptor can be seen on the figurine. The object showcases new artistic innovations for its time. The sculptor used light and shadow to create a sense of depth and perspective, methods that would fully flourish much later. "Given the way it was modeled, with an emphasis on its left profile, we know that this figurine was probably displayed in a particular spot to receive light, from the sun or a fireplace, on its left profile to reveal the play of light and shadows that brings to life the interaction between the goose and the woman," Davin said. Such figurines may have served as ornaments, amulets with magical or protective properties or as props to tell stories. This one may have been part of a staged installation that village inhabitants would come to observe, Davin said. At some point, it was buried in the fill of the structure where the researchers found it along with other objects possessing ritual meaning such as a cache of human teeth and the remains of a child. The Natufian culture's people were the first hunter-gatherers in Southwest Asia to adopt a sedentary lifestyle, a dramatic transformation that predated the embrace of farming. This village's inhabitants hunted gazelles, practiced elaborate crafts including weaving and collected raw materials nearby such as flint and limestone. The site bore remains of geese, with evidence of hunting, butchering and feather use. Notably, the figurine's scene was unrelated to hunting. "The implication of this discovery," Grosman said, "is that the sedentary lifestyle generated major transformations in social structures - both between humans and between humans and their surrounding environment - which then led to major transformations in storytelling, symbolic expression and artistic techniques."

Feds Nab Illegal Migrant Trucker With Terrorism Ties

Federal immigration authorities arrested a truck driver living illegally in the United States and accused by his home country of belonging to a terrorist organization. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested 31-year-old Akhror Bozorov, a criminal illegal migrant from Uzbekistan, during an enforcement operation on Nov. 9, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The high-profile arrest follows a slate of actions the Trump administration has taken to identify and remove illegal migrants who’ve managed to obtain Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs). (RELATED: EXCLUSIVE: Deported Couple Accused Of Running ‘Barbaric’ Sex Ring After Sneaking Back Into US) “Not only was Akhror Bozorov — a wanted terrorist — RELEASED into the country by the Biden administration, but he was he was also given a commercial driver’s license by Governor Shapiro’s Pennsylvania,” Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said Monday. “This should go without saying, but terrorist illegal aliens should not be operating 18-wheelers on America’s highways.” “Biden and [former DHS Secretary Alejandro] Mayorkas allowed countless terrorists to come into our country,” McLaughlin continued. “President Trump and Secretary Noem unleashed ICE to target these national security threats.” The Trump administration did not immediately disclose which terrorist organization Bozorov is allegedly affiliated with, but confirmed that he illegally entered the U.S. in February 2023 and was later released into the country by the Biden administration. Uzbek government officials, which accuse Bozorov of distributing terrorist propaganda that calls for jihad online and recruiting terrorists to join the jihad movement, issued an arrest warrant for him in 2022, according to DHS. The illegal migrant obtained a CDL in Pennsylvania and was busted earlier this month while working as a commercial truck driver. A spokesperson for Shapiro’s office did not respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation. The arrest marks the latest enforcement action taken by the Trump administration against illegal migrant truck drivers. Federal officials have dramatically cracked down on commercial drivers following a slate of deadly highway accidents allegedly caused by illegal migrants. Under emergency rules established by the Department of Transportation, non-citizens wishing to earn a non-domiciled CDL must undergo a mandatory federal immigration status check and have an employment-based visa. The new requirements — which largely do not apply to lawful permanent residents — were aimed at illegal migrants who managed to obtain CDLs while knowing little to no English, posing serious danger to American roadways. However, the tightened policies have been met with resistance from opponents of the Trump administration. A group of pro-Democrat labor organizations filed a lawsuit in October, and an appeals court earlier this month put the rules on hold as the legal challenge plays out. Judge Suggests DOJ ‘Missteps’ Could Sink Comey Case

A federal magistrate judge suggested Monday that “profound investigative missteps” by the government could provide former FBI Director James Comey grounds for having his case dismissed. Magistrate Judge William Fitzpatrick granted Comey’s request to review typically secret grand jury material, finding “government misconduct may have tainted” the proceedings. “The Court recognizes that the relief sought by the defense is rarely granted,” the judge wrote. “However, the record points to a disturbing pattern of profound investigative missteps, missteps that led an FBI agent and a prosecutor to potentially undermine the integrity of the grand jury proceeding.” (RELATED: Clinton Judge Could Frustrate James Comey, Letitia James Cases By Tossing Trump DOJ’s Prosecutor) Comey faces charges for allegedly lying to Congress during his September 2020 testimony and obstructing a congressional investigation. The government alleges he authorized Columbia University law professor Daniel Richman to leak information, despite testifying that he had not “authorized someone else at the FBI to be an anonymous source in news reports” regarding an investigation into Hillary Clinton. Prior to bringing the indictment, the government reviewed evidence obtained through search warrants issued in 2019 and 2020 as part of a different investigation. Comey’s defense team expressed concern that case agents may have been exposed to attorney-client privileged materials, as Richman served as Comey’s personal attorney after he was fired as FBI director. Judge Michael Nachmanoff, a Biden appointee overseeing the Comey case, directed Fitzpatrick to consider the issues raised by Comey’s defense. “The government appears to have conflated its obligation to protect privileged information–an obligation it approached casually at best in this case–with its duty to seize only those materials authorized by the Court,” Fitzpatrick wrote Monday. “This cavalier attitude towards a basic tenet of the Fourth Amendment and multiple court orders left the government unchecked to rummage through all of the information seized from Mr. Richman, and apparently, in the government’s eyes, to do so again anytime they chose.” The Department of Justice did not respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation. ‘Highly Irregular’ Fitzpatrick noted that the government allowed “an agent who was exposed to potentially privileged information to testify before a grand jury,” stating this was a “highly irregular and a radical departure from past DOJ practice.” He also identified two statements made by interim U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan to grand jurors that “appear to be fundamental misstatements of the law that could compromise the integrity” of the process. One of these statements, which is redacted, was “a fundamental and highly prejudicial misstatement of the law that suggests to the grand jury that Mr. Comey does not have a Fifth Amendment right to testify at trial,” according to the judge. Halligan, a former Trump defense attorney who presented the indictment alone to the grand jury, took over the U.S. Attorney’s office in the Eastern District of Virginia after its prior head resigned, reportedly under pressure from Trump to bring indictments. Comey’s indictment was Halligan’s first time prosecuting a case. Her appointment is currently being challenged by both Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James. The judge highlighted issues with a potentially missing portion of the grand jury transcript and the way a second version of the indictment was presented. “Here, the procedural and substantive irregularities that occurred before the grand jury, and the manner in which evidence presented to the grand jury was collected and used, may rise to the level of government misconduct resulting in prejudice to Mr. Comey,” the judge wrote. Gunmen Execute Teacher Before Mass Abduction Of Nigerian Schoolgirls

Gunmen armed with “sophisticated weapons” raided a Nigerian boarding school Monday, killing at least one staffer and abducting 25 schoolgirls after a firefight with guards. Police said the attackers stormed Maga boarding school around 4 a.m., trading fire with guards before fleeing with the students. Authorities have launched a coordinated search operation, scanning suspected escape routes and surrounding forests to recover the girls and apprehend the perpetrators, a police spokesperson told ABC News. (RELATED: Masked Gunmen Reportedly Storm Troubled Singer’s Home) A relative of one of the girls told ABC they fear two people may have been killed in the attack. “We were told that the attackers entered the school with many motorcycles. They first went straight to the teacher’s house and killed him before killing the guard,” the family member said. Information Minister Mohammed Idris said Monday the government is “firmly committed to bringing the girls home safely,” according to Sahara Reporters. The statement said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu views the protection of Nigerians, especially schoolchildren, as a core duty of the state and condemned the killings and abductions. It added that security agencies have been ordered to find and recover the girls and bring the attackers to justice. The gunmen’s motives remain unclear, and no group has yet claimed responsibility, though similar kidnappings have been carried out for ransom in the region, ABC News reported. The bandits behind earlier abductions are not linked to Boko Haram or the Islamic State West Africa Province, whose attacks on Christian communities led President Donald Trump to designate Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern.” The designation allows the U.S. to consider targeted measures, including potential sanctions, in response to severe violations of religious freedom and to increase pressure on Nigerian authorities over extremist violence, including but not limited to attacks by Boko Haram. Fewer New Foreign Students Enroll In US Schools, Colleges Fear Losing Cash Cow

Universities are admitting they need foreign students to pad the bottom line as new international enrollments at U.S. schools appear to be declining, according to a new report on fall 2025 data. The number of foreign students enrolling for the first time in the U.S. declined by 17% this year, according to data from Open Doors, which is sponsored by the Department of State and receives federal funding. Of the 828 colleges included in the report, 84% said recruiting foreigners is a priority, with 60% citing “financial contributions” as the reason. Despite the decline in new enrollments, total international enrollment is down just 1%, with undergraduate enrollment up slightly by 2%. Optional Practical Training (OPT) programs that keep foreign students in the U.S. after graduation are up 14%, while graduate school enrollment by international students declined 12%. Nearly 30% of universities included in the survey still reported an increase in new foreign student enrollment, while 14% reported stable enrollment and 57% saw a decrease. At some universities, such as Columbia, foreign students make up a large percentage of the student body. These students are often favored by universities because they pay full tuition and fees without financial assistance. The Trump administration has tried to rein in foreign student enrollment at schools like Harvard, citing a “toxic campus climate” due to increasing antisemitism and questions about foreign funding disclosures. However, judges have jumped in and blocked many of those efforts. In response to the administration’s moves, a Chinese Communist Party-backed university in Hong Kong offered to poach students who had been accepted to Harvard. (RELATED: Ivy League Professors Fight For Non-Citizen ‘Right’ To Openly Support Terror Without Consequence) Recently, President Donald Trump vowed to allow 600,000 Chinese students into U.S. schools, saying America needs their “talent.” About 56% of universities reported stable or increased new student enrollment from China, according to the report. John Kennedy Quips His ‘Version Of Hell’ Would Be Being Required To Watch Reruns Of ‘The View’ For Eternity

Republican Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy made it clear on “The Benny Show” Monday that he had no intention of appearing on ABC’s “The View.” Kennedy has been making media rounds to promote his new book, “How to Test Negative for Stupid: And Why Washington Never Will.” However, when host Benny Johnson asked Kennedy on his show whether he would soon be appearing on “The View,” the senator shut down the idea immediately. Johnson joked that he wanted to start a petition to get Kennedy on the show and that it would have record-breaking ratings, but Kennedy did not budge. “Well, I don’t know, but I have no interest in going on,” the senator said. “I’d rather be poked in the eye with a sharp stick.” Before asking Kennedy whether he’d go on the show, Johnson said that he believed Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene appearing on “The View” on Nov. 4 was “the breaking point” in her relationship with President Donald Trump. Trump mentioned Greene’s appearance on the show in his Friday Truth Social post announcing his withdrawal of his endorsement for her. “I understand that wonderful, Conservative people are thinking about primarying Marjorie in her District of Georgia, that they too are fed up with her and her antics and, if the right person runs, they will have my Complete and Unyielding Support,” the president wrote. “She has gone Far Left, even doing ‘The View,’ with their Low IQ Republican hating Anchors.” “The View” did not host any conservative, pro-Trump guests in 2025 as of July 30, the Media Research Center found. Federal Communications Commissioner Brendan Carr suggested on “The Scott Jennings Radio Show” that the show could face regulatory scrutiny. “[T]he FCC does have a rule called the equal opportunity rule … But there’s an exception to that rule called the bona fide news exception, which means if you are a bona fide news program, you don’t have to abide by the equal opportunity rule … And, potentially, I would assume you can make the argument that ‘The View’ is a bona fide news show, but I’m not so sure about that,” Carr said. “And I think it’s worthwhile to have the FCC look into whether ‘The View’ and some of these other programs that you have still qualify as bona fide news programs and therefore exempt from the equal opportunity regime that Congress has put in place,” Carr added. We’ve All Been There: Hilarious ‘Average Dad Crash Out’ Videos Go Viral

We’ve all been there. You’re assembling furniture. You’re fixing a ceiling fan. You’re hanging a flat-screen TV. You’re moving a refrigerator that weighs more than an elephant. (Subscribe to MR. RIGHT, a free weekly newsletter about modern masculinity) But you miss a step. You strip a screw. Impatient, you drill into the wall, only to realize that you missed your mark just enough that now the TV is crooked. You jam a finger or a toe. Worse yet, you throw out your back. Usually, you have the patience. Usually, you can take a deep breath and let your anger, frustration, and pain subside. It’s not a big deal, after all. But no, not this time. You’ve been at it for hours — in fact, for the entire duration of your Saturday — and all of a sudden, a minor inconvenience feels like a colossal failure. All of a sudden, you are the victim of a mass conspiracy. Everyone in the world is an idiot — except you. The last section of the couch isn’t locking into place because the couch was made in China, and everything made in China is cheap garbage. No, this time, you suffer an average dad crash out. Every man has felt this at some point in their lives pic.twitter.com/EK2mwdLkXE — Dudes Posting Their W’s (@DudespostingWs) November 17, 2025 Blinded by rage, you mutter under your breath before letting out a loud stream of colorful language. You combine cuss words in ways you have never combined them before. One second, you were putting together some patio chairs; the next thing you know, you are throwing those chairs off the deck and telling them they are about to get their a**es kicked and that they should have never messed with you in the first place. Your average dad crash out isn’t always victimless. Usually, the loved ones nearby, pets included, suffer from a collective spike in cortisol. At a certain point, though, your wife and kids have gotten so used to it that, amid your fits of rage, they end up desperately fighting back laughter. It becomes a comedy routine, and you’re the clown on stage. There’s nothing more amusing than watching a grown man curse out an Amazon coffee table and blaming his inability to read directions on Jeff Bezos and the corporate overlords who sold out America to the Chinese. Speaking from personal experience, I have told a bookshelf that it was only there in my living room, causing me great psychic pain, because of NAFTA. But for the average dad crashing out, this feeling can be therapeutic. It’s usually a combination of both relief and embarrassment. When you finally regain composure and drive home the last screw, you are proud of your work, but also wonder to yourself, Why did I just pull a Joe Biden and call the bed frame a lying dog-faced pony soldier? Do I have anger management problems? Do I need help? Of course you don’t. You were just suffering from an average dad crash out. We’ve all been there, and we will be there again anytime our wives or kids ask us to fix something. There’s nothing to be ashamed of. You are okay. You are heard.

Resale of tickets above face value set to be outlawed under crackdown on touts

Reselling tickets for live events for profit is set to be banned by the Government. Ministers are expected to announce the plan to tackle touts and resale sites which offer tickets at several times’ their face value. The Labour manifesto promised stronger protections to stop consumers being scammed or priced out of events by touts, who frequently use bots to buy tickets in bulk the moment they go on sale, which they can then sell on for huge mark-ups on secondary ticketing websites. A consultation on the changes had canvassed views on capping costs at up to 30% above the face value of a ticket. But reports in the Guardian and Financial Times revealed ministers were expected to set the limit at the face value, although fees could still be charged on top of that price. The Government declined to comment on the reports. The move, which could be announced on Wednesday, follows a campaign by some of the biggest names in music to cut costs for fans. Coldplay, Dua Lipa and Radiohead were last week among artists urging the Government to honour the pledge to cap resale prices. The Cure’s Robert Smith, New Order, Mark Knopfler, Iron Maiden, PJ Harvey and Mercury Prize-winner Sam Fender joined them in signing a statement calling for a cap to “restore faith in the ticketing system” and “help democratise public access to the arts”. This is great news for music and sports fans. A price cap set at the ticket’s original face value plus fees will rein in professional touts and put tickets back in the hands of real fansRocio Concha, Which? Other signatories included the watchdog Which?, FanFair Alliance, O2, the Football Supporters’ Association and organisations representing the music and theatre industries, venues, managers and ticket retailers. Rocio Concha, director of policy and advocacy at Which?, said: “This is great news for music and sports fans. “A price cap set at the ticket’s original face value plus fees will rein in professional touts and put tickets back in the hands of real fans. “For far too long, music and sports fans who missed out on tickets in the initial sales have been ripped off by touts on secondary ticketing sites and forced to pay over the odds to see their favourite artist perform or watch their team play. “The Government must listen to our coalition of performers, fans, consumer groups and the UK music industry and show that the price cap is a priority by including the necessary legislation in the King’s Speech.” Ticketmaster’s parent company Live Nation Entertainment backed the move. In a statement the firm said: “Live Nation fully supports the UK Government’s plan to ban ticket resale above face value. “Ticketmaster already limits all resale in the UK to face value prices and this is another major step forward for fans, cracking down on exploitative touting to help keep live events accessible. We encourage others around the world to adopt similar fan-first policies.”

Home Secretary sets out reforms to overhaul ‘unfair’ asylum system

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has said the current asylum system is “out of control and unfair” as she announced reforms aimed at deterring illegal migration to the UK. The Home Secretary set out tougher plans to overhaul asylum policy to MPs on Monday, including to make it easier to remove people with no right to be in the country. The plans had already faced criticism from Labour MPs, ahead of the statement. Ms Mahmood told MPs it was the “uncomfortable truth” that the UK’s generous asylum offer, compared to other European countries, is drawing people to UK shores, and for British taxpayers the system “feels out of control and unfair”. “The pace and scale of change has destabilised communities. It is making our country a more divided place,” Ms Mahmood said. “There will never be a justification for the violence and racism of a minority, but if we fail to deal with this crisis, we will draw more people down a path that starts with anger and ends in hatred. “I have no doubt about who we really are in this country. We are open, tolerant and generous. “But the public rightly expect that we can determine who enters this country, and who must leave. “To maintain the generosity that allows us to provide sanctuary, we must restore order and control.” Among the plans, refugee status will become temporary with regular reviews every 30 months, and the Government will no longer have a legal duty to provide asylum seeker support, which means housing and weekly allowances for asylum seekers will not be guaranteed. But reacting earlier to the Government’s plans, Kent MP and former immigration lawyer Tony Vaughan said ministers’ rhetoric “encourages the same culture of divisiveness that sees racism and abuse growing in our communities”. Mr Vaughan warned plans to review refugees’ status every few years would divert “huge amounts of resource away from making our asylum system work”. And referencing Sir Keir’s speech at the Labour Party conference, he said: “The Prime Minister said in September that we are at a fork in the road. “These asylum proposals suggest we have taken the wrong turning.” Other backbenchers expressed support for Mr Vaughan’s comments, with one telling the PA news agency the Government’s policy was “incoherent” and saw communities “pitted against each other”. Another told PA that “performative cruelty” would undermine efforts to both solve problems in the immigration system and improve Labour’s polling position, adding that Monday’s announcement was unlikely to help MPs show loyalty at a difficult time for the Government. And while others were more receptive to “difficult discussions” about how to improve border security, they said ministers lacked the “moral authority” to do so and attacked the proposals as a “visionless shambles”. Stroud MP Simon Opher said Labour should “stop the scapegoating of immigrants because it’s wrong and cruel” adding “we should push back on the racist agenda of Reform rather than echo it”. Backbench MP Nadia Whittome said it was “shameful that a Labour Government is ripping up the rights and protections of people who have endured unimaginable trauma”. The Home Secretary had said her plans could unite “a divided country” and fix the asylum system. The mobilisation of resistance on the back benches came before the policies were formally announced, after extensive efforts to sell them to voters who have shifted away from Labour as Nigel Farage’s Reform UK has secured months of opinion poll leads. But a source close to the Home Secretary said the “entire Government” is behind the reforms and there has been a “huge amount” of engagement with the parliamentary Labour Party in recent weeks. “That work will continue as we work with backbenchers to restore order and control and open up safe and legal routes for genuine refugees,” they said. The measures include: – Cutting the time refugees are initially granted to stay in the UK, from five years to a 30-month “core protection” system, which can only be renewed if it is not safe for them to return. – Refugees will have to spend 20 years in the UK before being allowed to apply for settled status, up from five years. – There will be no automatic right to family reunion for refugees under core protection. – Housing and weekly allowances will no longer be guaranteed for asylum seekers, and those who can work or have assets will have to contribute to their costs in the UK. – Families with children could also be subject to enforced returns under measures to remove failed asylum seekers, and the Government is launching a consultation on how that should be done. – Syrians with no right to be in the UK could potentially be forcibly returned home following the collapse of Bashar Assad’s regime, under plans being considered by the Government. In the policy document Ms Mahmood said the measures were part of a “more hard-headed approach” to removing failed asylum seekers. “We will remove people we have not removed before, including families who have a safe home country they can return to. “We will remove people to countries where we have, until recently, paused returns. “We will reform an asylum appeals system that sometimes seems designed to help frustrate a legitimate removal. ” Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch described the Government’s asylum plans as “baby steps, but positive”. However, she warned that any plan that does not involve leaving the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) is “doomed to fail”. Meanwhile shadow home secretary Chris Philp said: “When the Labour back benches inevitably revolt over even these limited measures, we stand ready to help get the legislation through as long as they pursue the measures necessary to tackle this crisis.” The latest Home Office figures show 111,084 people applied for asylum in the UK in the year to June 2025. This is the highest number for any 12-month period since current records began in 2001. A contributing factor has been the continued flow of small boats across the English Channel, with almost 40,000 people making the crossing so far in 2025. The reforms have been modelled on the Danish system, which is seen as one of the strictest in Europe. Denmark has reduced the number of asylum applications to the lowest number in 40 years and successfully removed 95% of rejected asylum seekers. But refugee charities have raised concerns over the proposals, with Safe Passage International describing them as a “major row back” on providing safety for those who need it. Refugee Council chief executive Enver Solomon said the reforms “sound tough” but they risk creating more delays and will not fix the real problems in the system. Of the regular reviews of refugee status he said it will create further chaos and “overwhelm an overstretched system”, leaving families living with years of uncertainty.

Editorial. Not above board

When US short-seller Hindenburg Research levelled a battery of allegations against the then SEBI (Securities and Exchange Board of India) chief in 2024, the official pushback was muted and unconvincing. This episode hinted at a lack of regulatory clarity on conflicts of interest issues with regard to top SEBI officials. Therefore, it comes as a relief to see the high-level committee chaired by former Chief Vigilance Commissioner Pratyush Sinha, do a thorough job of reviewing the extant regulatory framework to deal with conflicts of interest for the SEBI Chair and Board members. The Committee has found yawning gaps in the regulations and suggests sweeping changes. One, rules regarding conflicts for SEBI Board members are strewn across several statutes, leading to confusion. Most norms are laid down in the 2008 code of conduct, which lacks legal enforceability. The Committee recommends that all regulations dealing with conflicts of interest be written into a unified law. Two, existing laws do not identify areas where conflicts may arise. The Committee lists out five such areas (financial and non-financial interests, investments, gifts, recusals and post-retirement employment) and suggests remedies. It proposes standardised definitions of terms such as conflicts of interest, family, relative and significant relationships. Three, strangely SEBI employees are subject to much more stringent restrictions on their investing and trading activities than Board members. For instance, employees are automatically treated as ‘insiders’ under securities law and barred from trading, while there are no such restrictions for Board members. The panel seeks to correct this by treating Board members as permanent ‘insiders’ and prohibiting investments or trading by the Chair and Whole-time members (WTMs). Investments by the Chair, WTMs and employees should be only in professionally managed pooled vehicles. To prevent appointments of candidates with vested interests to the posts of SEBI Chair and WTMs, the panel suggests that applicants disclose actual and potential conflicts at the outset. Thereafter, they must make annual and event-based disclosures of assets, liabilities and trading activities. These will be publicly posted for the Chairperson, WTMs, Executive Directors, and Chief General Managers. Such public disclosures may be necessary, but in imposing such conditions further down the line a balance needs to be struck between preventing conflicts and attracting competent professionals who see such requirements as a breach of privacy. To ensure independent oversight, the committee suggests a separate Office of Ethics and Compliance and an Oversight Committee on Ethics and Compliance. It rightly moots a secure anonymous whistleblower system at SEBI. These recommendations need to codified into law without further ado. The government should also consider implementing some of these safeguards for the Reserve Bank of India, IRDAI, PFRDA and Employees Provident Fund Organisation. Published on November 17, 2025

Germany Issues Chilling Warning: 'This May Be Europe’s Last Peaceful Summer'

Germany’s defense minister Boris Pistorius warned that Russia could regain enough military strength to target a NATO member state before 2029, noting that some analysts now suggest the timeline could shift even earlier. Speaking to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, he said experts who once pointed to 2029 are increasingly mentioning 2028, while others argue that last summer might have been the final “quiet” one in Europe. Despite these projections, Pistorius stressed that NATO maintains strong deterrence capabilities, including both conventional and nuclear forces, though he acknowledged the need to continue strengthening military readiness. He underscored that the alliance’s armies are operational but require further investment and modern equipment. The discussion comes against the backdrop of warnings from senior German commanders. Earlier in November, Lieutenant General Alexander Sollfrank said Russia possessed the ability to carry out a limited strike on NATO territory “even tomorrow,” highlighting the considerable firepower of the Russian Air Force. The statements prompted responses from Moscow. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told TASS that Pistorius’s comments only confirmed “who the aggressor is,” while Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia would “take measures to ensure its security.” He insisted, however, that Moscow does not seek a direct confrontation with NATO countries.
