UK media shakeup: Daily Mail and Telegraph to join forces

LONDON, UK - The owner of the Daily Mail has reached an agreement to acquire The Telegraph Media Group in a landmark £500 million deal, a move that would unite two of Britain's most influential news brands under one roof. Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT) and the current joint venture, RedBird IMI, have entered a period of exclusivity to finalise the terms of the transaction. Both parties stated they expect to prepare and submit the necessary regulatory filings quickly and are confident of a positive and swift conclusion. The proposed acquisition would see The Daily Telegraph and The Sunday Telegraph join DMGT's portfolio of media titles, which already includes the Daily Mail, The Mail on Sunday, Metro, the i newspaper, and New Scientist. DMGT, which has been controlled by the Rothermere family for over a century, positions itself as a long-term custodian of media assets. In a statement, DMGT Chairman Lord Rothermere expressed his long-standing admiration for The Telegraph, calling it "Britain's largest and best quality broadsheet newspaper." He pledged to invest substantially in the publication, with a key focus on accelerating its international expansion, particularly in the United States where the Daily Mail already has a significant presence. "We intend to give [Editor Chris Evans] the resources to invest in the newsroom," Lord Rothermere said. "Under our ownership, the Daily Telegraph will become a global brand, just as the Daily Mail has." To address potential regulatory and reader concerns, DMGT emphasised that The Daily Telegraph would retain its editorial independence from other titles in the group. The company also stated the deal would comply with the UK's Foreign State Influence regime, confirming that "there will be no foreign state investment or capital in the funding structure." A spokesman for RedBird IMI confirmed the agreement, noting that the details would "shortly be submitted to the Secretary of State" for review. DMGT believes the acquisition would provide stability for TMG's employees and allow its "exceptional journalism to flourish," arguing that in today's competitive digital landscape, trusted news publishers require scale and experience to compete effectively.

Minnesota is 2-1 in West Group A. Heat 143, Bulls 107 Kel'el Ware posted a double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds and Norman Powell scored 19 points as Miami routed host Chicago in NBA Cup play. Miami led by as many as 41 points, backed by a plus-14 rebounding effort that contributed to a 26-12 edge in second-chance points. Bam Adebayo added 18 points for the Heat, who have won three straight games overall and are 2-1 in East Group C. Ayo Dosunmu paced the Bulls with 23 points with Josh Giddey scoring 19 14. Renewable Push Hinges On Storage, Delayed PPAs Threaten Momentum: Icra

Renewable Push Hinges On Storage, Delayed PPAs Threaten Momentum: Icra

India’s renewable energy expansion faces mounting execution challenges as delays in signing power purchase agreements (PPAs), inadequate transmission connectivity and grid curtailments threaten capacity addition targets, even as declining battery prices improve the viability of utility-scale storage projects, ratings agency Icra said in a new report. Icra expects the share of renewable energy generation, including large hydro, to exceed 35 per cent of India’s total electricity mix by FY2030, up from 22.1 per cent in FY2025. The projection hinges on the implementation of nearly 200 GW of additional capacity expected between FY2025 and FY2030, alongside timely completion of transmission infrastructure and new bid activity. After awarding 47.3 GW of renewable capacity in FY2024 and 40.6 GW in FY2025, tender activity has slowed significantly this year, with only 5.8 GW awarded in the first eight months of FY2026. Icra said unsigned PPAs remain elevated at about 40-45 GW, citing industry checks. Commenting on the slowdown, Girishkumar Kadam, Senior Vice President & Group Head – Corporate Ratings at Icra, said the decline in bidding and delays in PPA agreements “clearly reflects the concerns on the execution related to available transmission connectivity for the RE sector”. He highlighted reported grid curtailments in Rajasthan for solar assets during peak generation hours because of grid stability requirements. Since compensation clauses are absent in PPAs for such curtailments, project economics face increased uncertainty. Kadam said enhancing storage capacity and strengthening grid infrastructure at state and inter-state levels is “extremely critical” as renewable penetration rises.Battery Storage Gains MomentumAs variability from wind and solar increases, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are emerging as key enablers for grid stability. The government has announced viability gap funding for BESS and extended transmission charge waivers for storage projects until 2028. More than 20 GWh of standalone BESS capacity has been awarded by central nodal agencies and state distribution companies between April 2024 and October 2025, Icra said. Projects such as round-the-clock (RTC), firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) and solar-plus-storage accounted for about 90 per cent of total renewable capacity awarded in the first eight months of FY2026. Significant declines in battery prices globally have improved the competitiveness of storage assets. Icra estimates the levelised cost of storage for two-to-four-hour BESS projects at Rs 4.0–7.0 per unit, compared with Rs 5.0 per unit for pumped storage hydropower. This marks a sharp improvement from Rs 8.0–9.0 per unit in 2022. Kadam said sustained reductions in battery prices are expected to drive further adoption. Based on an average battery cost of about USD 70/kWh in 2025, along with taxes and balance-of-plant expenses, capital costs are estimated at USD 120–150/kWh. At these levels and prevailing interest rates, cumulative debt service coverage ratios for standalone BESS projects remain within the 1.15–1.25 times range. However, performance parameters such as availability, round-trip efficiency and degradation remain important monitorables.Stable Sector Outlook Despite ChallengesIcra maintains a Stable outlook for the renewable energy sector, supported by policy measures, tariff competitiveness and sustainability commitments by commercial and industrial consumers. However, execution risks persist due to land acquisition hurdles, PPA delays, volatility in equipment prices and financial stress among distribution companies. The sector recorded 29 upgrades and six downgrades in FY2025 and 49 upgrades against 13 downgrades in the first half of FY2026. Upgrades were linked to commissioning progress, improved generation performance and favourable ownership changes, while downgrades stemmed from weak output, commissioning delays and increased leverage. Icra said timely expansion of transmission and storage capacity will be essential if India is to meet its renewable ambitions while maintaining grid reliability.

(Photo credit: Kamil Krzaczynski-Imagn Images) Kel'el Ware posted a double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds and Norman Powell scored 19 points as the Miami Heat routed the host Chicago Bulls 143-107 on Friday. Miami improved to 2-1 in East Group C of the NBA Cup to keep pace with the Milwaukee Bucks, who lead the group at 2-0. The Bulls fell to 1-2 in Cup play. Miami led by as many as 41 points, backed by a plus-14 rebounding effort that contributed to a 26-12 edge in second-chance points. Bam Adebayo added 18 points for the Heat, who have won three straight games for the third time this season. Chicago has lost six of eight. Powell left the game briefly in the first quarter with a left groin strain, but he regrouped to contribute 15 first-half points on 5-for-10 shooting. Ware was even more efficient, going 5-for-9 from the floor and scoring 12 points before the break. After leading the Bulls by four entering the second quarter, the Heat surged ahead by as many as 25 in the second. Ware converted an alley-oop dunk off a feed from Jaime Jaquez Jr. with 4:10 before halftime to cap an 18-2 run that featured six points from Powell and seven from Ware. Miami led 70-52 at the break. Josh Giddey (10 points) was the only Bull in double figures on his way to 19. Ayo Dosunmu paced the Bulls with 23 points, and Jalen Smith chipped in 14. Chicago shot 41.1% compared to 47% for Miami. The Bulls went 12-for-43 from long range while committing 18 turnovers. Keshad Johnson scored 14 points to go with a career-high 12 rebounds for the Heat. Pelle Larsson and Davion Mitchell scored 16 points apiece, while Dru Smith (12) and Jaquez (10) also finished in double figures. Giddey led the Bulls with 11 rebounds and nine assists. Chicago's Matas Buzelis (ankle), Isaac Okoro (lower back) and Dalen Terry (calf) were injured during the game. Kevin Huerter was ejected in the third quarter for tapping the ball toward an official after a foul call. Nikola Jovic and Andrew Wiggins both missed the game for the Heat with hip injuries. Chicago's Coby White was held out due to injury management as the team played the first leg of a back-to-back. --Field Level Media

Jordan Staal nets a pair to lift Hurricanes over Jets

(Photo credit: James Carey Lauder-Imagn Images) Jordan Staal scored twice to lead the Carolina Hurricanes to a hard-fought 4-3 road win over the Winnipeg Jets on Friday. The Jets' day started sour when it was announced that goaltender Connor Hellebuyck would miss four to six weeks due to knee surgery, and things worsened once the puck dropped. Brandon Bussi earned his fifth win of the season with 24 saves. Seth Jarvis and Andrei Svechnikov both scored in the win, while Sebastian Aho collected two assists. Gabriel Vilardi buried a pair and Josh Morrissey rounded out the scoring for the Jets. The Hurricanes struck early as Staal stunned the home crowd with some slick stickhandling before sending his wrist shot into the back of the net just 16 seconds into the contest. Morrissey swiftly evened up the scoring at 16:23 of the first period as he took a pass from Mark Scheifele and sent it past Bussi to extend his point streak to seven games (four goals, seven assists). The Jets then took the lead when Cole Perfetti got loose on a breakaway with Vilardi and passed to his winger, who scored on the power play to give Winnipeg a 2-1 lead. Nikolaj Ehlers nearly scored in his long-awaited return to Winnipeg, but his former teammate Dylan Demelo batted the puck out of midair to keep it out of the net with 7:21 left in the opening frame. Staal notched his second goal of the game just over three minutes into the second period after some beautiful passing from the Hurricanes. Aho was unable to score on a short-handed breakaway, but Jarvis buried the rebound to give the Hurricanes the 3-2 lead with 13:29 left in the middle frame. Ehlers finally got his point as he sent a perfect pass to Svechnikov, who made no mistake on his one-timer to stretch the Hurricanes' lead to 4-2 just over three minutes into the third period. Vilardi was quick to answer, though, as his attempted pass to Kyle Connor banked off a Hurricanes' defender and into the back of the net for his second goal of the contest with 15:47 left in the third. The Jets had a plethora of opportunities to knot things up late, but the Hurricanes held on for the victory. --Field Level Media

NCAA rescinds rule change, reinstates athlete betting ban

NCAA rescinds rule change, reinstates athlete betting ban

(Photo credit: Patrick Gorski-Imagn Images) The NCAA has reinstated a ban on pro sports betting, the organization announced Friday. The initial rule change would've allowed student-athletes and athletics department staff members to bet on professional sports. College sports betting would've still been outlawed. The new betting stance would've taken effect Nov. 1. However, a procedural 30-day period was triggered after less than 75% of Division I members voted in favor of the measure. A two-thirds majority was needed to rescind the rule before the procedural period ended Saturday. That threshold was reached Friday. The vote also applies to Division II and III programs, meaning pro sports betting is still banned at all three levels. The NCAA's initial decision to lax its betting restrictions came amid a myriad of gambling-related scandals across the sports world. In the pros, MLB players Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz, as well as NBA figures Chauncey Billups, Terry Rozier and Damon Jones, have all been accused of participating in betting schemes in the past month. Collegiately, the NCAA revoked the eligibility of six men's basketball players over sports betting allegations two weeks ago. On Friday, it accused ex-Temple guard Hysier Miller of betting on Owls games dozens of times, with some wagers coming against his own team. SEC commissioner Greg Sankey was part of a wave of voices that came out against the NCAA's push to allow betting after the organization codified a rule barring sports gambling in 2023. 'If there are legal or practical concerns about the prior policy, those should be addressed through careful refinement -- not through wholesale removal of the guardrails that have long supported the integrity of games and the well-being of those who participate,' Sankey said in an open letter late last month. --Field Level Media

Stars look for more success against lowly Flames

(Photo credit: Bob Frid-Imagn Images) The Dallas Stars kicked off a four-game road swing with a win. Now the red-hot Stars will look for another when they visit the Calgary Flames on Saturday. Thanks to a 4-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday, Dallas has won six of seven games overall and posted a 5-0-2 mark in its last seven road clashes. It doesn't matter where you look, the Stars are getting contributions across the lineup, but their biggest names have been tearing the league apart lately. Forward Jason Robertson has scored nine times during a five-game goal streak and added three assists in his run. This spree followed a slump in which he scored only once in 14 outings. 'He's been super confident, great with the puck, and great to see him continue that hot streak and just continue to do his thing,' said forward Colin Blackwell. 'He's got a gift that a lot of people don't have.' Mikko Rantanen is also on a five-game point streak, during which he has scored two goals and provided five assists. It helps that goaltender Jake Oettinger is also rolling. He was at his best the final two periods against Vancouver, stopping the final 25 shots he faced while his team found the third-period goals to pull away. 'I wasn't happy with the goals that went in,' Oettinger said. 'I just tried to bear down. I thought we should have been up 2-0 after the first, so it was time to buckle down.' The Flames sit last in the league standings but return home after a 6-2 road victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday that snapped a two-game losing skid. Calgary, the second-lowest scoring club in the league, broke open the affair with four third-period goals to hit a season-high for goals in a game. 'It was a pretty complete game from us from start to finish,' said coach Ryan Huska. 'And it was nice to see the guys score some goals, even a couple that were lucky. We haven't seen a lot of those this year.' Despite the team's woes since the start of the season, the Flames are starting to find their footing. Forward Matt Coronato has scored in three consecutive games and defenseman Rasmus Andersson has found the scoresheet in three consecutive games (two goals, four assists). Curiously, this game is the lone home date in a lengthy stretch. Having skated in their back-to-back games in Chicago and Buffalo before this meeting, the Flames next head to Vancouver to kick off a five-game road swing which includes clashes with both Florida-based teams, the Carolina Hurricanes and Nashville Predators. 'A lot of travel,' said forward John Beecher, who was claimed via waivers from the Boston Bruins during the most recent trip. 'I've got to get used to the West Coast travel soon, and the longer flights.' Calgary received some bad news on Friday when it was announced that rookie forward Sam Honzek would miss up to six months after requiring surgery due to an undisclosed upper-body injury. Honzek, the 2023 first-round draft choice, had collected two goals and four points in 18 games. Honzek was a strong candidate to be on Slovakia's Olympic team. The Stars have won the last three meetings between the clubs. --Field Level Media

Cooper Flagg's season-best performance helps Mavericks best Pelicans

(Photo credit: Jerome Miron-Imagn Images) Rookie Cooper Flagg scored 12 of his season-best 29 points in the fourth quarter and also had seven rebounds and five assists to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 118-115 victory over the visiting New Orleans Pelicans in NBA Cup play Friday night. PJ Washington added 24 points, and Max Christie scored a season-best 23 as the Mavericks won for just the third time in the past 12 games. Jaden Hardy scored 11 points, and Brandon Williams added 12 assists for Dallas. Trey Murphy III scored 25 points, and Zion Williamson added 22 for the Pelicans, who lost their eighth consecutive game. Jeremiah Fears had 21 points and seven rebounds, while Derik Queen registered 20 points and 11 assists for New Orleans. Dallas is 1-2 in West Group B play, while the Pelicans dropped to 0-3. Williamson converted a three-point play with 1:53 left and added two free throws 16 seconds later as the Pelicans took a 115-111 advantage. Flagg got a favorable bounce on a shot with 1:19 to play, and then Dallas moved ahead by one on Naji Marshall's trey with 31.7 seconds left. Washington then got a hand on Fears' errant trey with 21.1 seconds to play, and Christie made two free throws to make it 118-115 with 10.9 seconds to play. Murphy and Queen each missed 3-pointers in the final seconds before Washington won the fight for a rebound shortly before time expired. Washington and Christie each made five 3-pointers for Dallas, which hit 16 of 43 from behind the arc. Overall, the Mavericks shot 47.6% from the field. New Orleans shot 45.7% from the field but was just 7 of 27 from long distance. D'Angelo Russell (illness) sat out for Dallas. The Mavericks trailed by 14 entering the third quarter before outscoring the Pelicans 36-22. Dallas was 5 of 8 from 3-point range in the quarter, while New Orleans missed all four of its attempts. Dallas scored 29 of the first 40 points in the quarter to take a 78-74 lead on a 3-pointer by Williams with 5:02 left in the period. Fears split two free throws with 0.3 seconds left to knot it at 85 entering the final stanza. Murphy scored 15 first-half points as the Pelicans led 63-49 at the break. Washington had 14 in the half for Dallas. --Field Level Media

N.C. State beats Florida State to become bowl eligibile

(Photo credit: Jaylynn Nash-Imagn Images) CJ Bailey threw for two touchdowns and kept North Carolina State out of trouble for the most part while the Wolfpack defense, along with strange plays on special teams, took care of the rest in a 21-11 victory over Florida State on Friday night in Raleigh, N.C. Bailey, who struggled last Saturday in a blowout loss at Miami, completed 18 of 25 throws for 152 yards with no interceptions as NC State (6-5, 3-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) became bowl eligible. Running back Hollywood Smothers rushed for 84 yards on 21 carries. Florida State (5-6, 2-5) must win its regular-season finale Nov. 29 at Florida to gain bowl eligibility. The Wolfpack held Florida State quarterback Tommy Castellanos to 203 yards on 16-for-32 passing. With the Seminoles trailing 14-3, Castellanos connected with Duce Robinson for a 9-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, and then it really got interesting. After NC State's ensuing possession was halted, a bizarre play turned favorable for the Wolfpack. Punter Caden Noonkester's punt was so short that it struck a Florida State player in the helmet, bouncing so far back toward the line of scrimmage that Noonkester recovered the ball. Then the next possession fizzled, so the Wolfpack, still holding a 14-11 lead, punted again, with Squirrel White fumbling on the return and NC State recovering at the Florida State 16-yard line. This time, the Wolfpack converted on Bailey's 12-yard throw to Justin Joly in the end zone on a fourth-and-6 play with 1:47 to play. Robinson, a standout receiver, was targeted several times by Castellanos, but they didn't connect for a completion until the fourth quarter. Leading 14-3, the Wolfpack looked poised to put the game out of reach in the fourth quarter by moving into Florida State territory. But a third-down sack pushed them out of field goal range, so NC State punted. Florida State then marched 86 yards on 10 plays with Castellanos hooking up with Robinson for the team's first touchdown of the night. Castellanos threw to Jayvan Boggs for the two-point conversion. NC State scored late in the first quarter on Bailey's 23-yard pass play to Terrell Anderson. The Seminoles countered in the opening minute of the second quarter on Jake Weinberg's 46-yard field goal. NC State controlled the ball for most of the third quarter, converting that time into points with Will Wilson's 1-yard scoring run with 4:17 left in the frame. --Field Level Media

Blazers G Jrue Holiday (calf) out at least 1-2 more weeks

(Photo credit: Troy Taormina-Imagn Images) Portland Trail Blazers guard Jrue Holiday, who had already missed three games because of a right calf strain entering Friday's action, will be sidelined at least another one to two weeks, the team announced Friday. Holiday last played Nov. 14, when he scored 13 points in Portland's 140-116 loss at Houston. In addition, Trail Blazers guard Shaedon Sharpe sat out a second consecutive game Friday when Portland faced the Golden State Warriors in San Francisco. The team also updated the status of Scoot Henderson, who has yet to play this season due to an injured left hamstring. The 21-year-old guard will be re-evaluated in two to four weeks. Holiday was leading the Blazers with 8.3 assists per game and ranked sixth in the NBA entering play Friday. He was also averaging 16.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per outing. The 17-year veteran, two-time All-Star and six-time All-Defensive team member is in his first season in Portland. A durable player, Holiday has averaged 32.9 minutes played in 1,049 career regular-season games. He has played in at least 59 contests in the past 10 seasons. Holiday owns averages of 15.8 points and 6.2 assists per game for his career, which includes stints in Philadelphia (2009-2013), New Orleans (2013-2020), Milwaukee (2020-23) and Boston (2023-25). He won NBA championships with the Bucks in 2021 and with the Celtics in 2024. --Field Level Media

Dak Prescott, Cowboys Wear Marshawn Kneeland Tribute Shirts in Pregame Photos, Videos

Members of the Dallas Cowboys honored their late teammate, Marshawn Kneeland, ahead of Monday's contest against the Las Vegas Raiders. Quarterback Dak Prescott and other members of the team wore shirts featuring Kneeland's photo, and a locker inside Allegiant Stadium had Kneeland's jersey in it. Along with shirts honoring Kneeland, the Cowboys' helmets feature the defensive lineman's number, and they will continue to wear the decals for the remainder of the season. Per ESPN's Todd Archer, the Cowboys will wear the shirts again ahead of next week's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, which will be their first home game since Kneeland's death on Nov. 9. "Certainly, it puts everything into perspective," executive vice president Stephen Jones said on 105.3 The Fan (h/t Archer). "You're playing a game that means a lot to a lot of people, but there are things a lot more important than that. Certainly, that's what we're going through this week. So, that'll be first and foremost, but then we do know, like anything, you've got to get back to work. We just want to continue to honor Marshawn and do everything the very best way we can." The Cowboys were on a bye week following Kneeland's passing, but teams around the league honored him with moments of silence. Dallas drafted Kneeland in the second round in 2024, and he appeared in 18 contests with the team, recording 26 tackles and a sack. He also scored a touchdown after a blocked punt in his final game with the Cowboys.

Shedeur Sanders Reportedly Set to Be Browns' QB1 vs. Raiders Amid Gabriel Concussion

The Cleveland Browns are expected to Shedeur Sanders at quarterback for Sunday's game against the Las Vegas Raiders, according to Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot. This comes after Dillon Gabriel suffered a concussion in a Week 11 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Cabot noted that Sanders is expected to start "barring some unexpected occurrence," with Bailey Zappe serving as the backup. For much of the 2025 season, a section of fans have lobbied for Sanders to become Cleveland's starter. His failure to move up the depth chart sparked plenty of discussion and was occasionally something Stefanski had to address. While it's too early to make any concrete judgments about the fifth-round pick, his cameo against the Ravens illustrated why Stefanski kept him as the backup until left with no other choice. Sanders threw a 25-yard strike to tight end Harold Fannin Jr. late in the fourth quarter as the Browns were trying to get the game-tying score. That was his only real highlight, though. The former Colorado star finished 4-of-16 for 47 yards and an interception. He also suffered two sacks for a loss of 27 combined yards. "I don't think I played good," Sanders told reporters. "I don't think I played good at all. I think there's a lot of things we need to look at during the week and go and just get comfortable with even throwing routes with [wide receiver] Jerry [Jeudy] and throwing routes with all those guys. I think that was my first ball to him all year. But other than that, I just think overall, we just got to go next week and understand, so that we have a week to prepare stuff I like to do." Those preaching patience with Sanders were justified. When he hasn't had first-team reps in a game or even across multiple practices, his eventual debut was always going to be rough. Still, the second half of the Ravens game laid bare how much work he has to become a good starter. In particular, Sanders' feel in the pocket is really lacking. On multiple occasions, he lost more yards than he should've by extending plays rather throwing the ball out of bounds or going down earlier. Stefanski clearly wasn't swayed by what he saw from Sanders. He told reporters Gabriel would resume starting duties once he cleared the NFL's concussion protocol. Of course, Gabriel's availability for Week 12 hinged on him getting the green light from the team's medical staff, and that wasn't a foregone conclusion. At this point, who starts for the Browns is largely irrelevant. The team is 2-8 with little hope of reaching the playoffs. The rest of the season is at least an opportunity to get more tape on Sanders and Gabriel to see whether either is a good long-term solution. On the basis of the evidence so far, Cleveland will be back in the market for a quarterback this offseason.

Unprecedented record made during Kolkata Test: First fixture with both teams bowled out below 200 in India

New Delhi [India], November 17 (ANI): The first Test between India and South Africa, which concluded in just three days at Eden Gardens, marked a historic low for red-ball cricket in India, it was the first instance where both teams were bowled out in all four innings, with neither side reaching a total of 200 runs. This happened for the first time in 66 years. In Test cricket, there are only 12 instances where neither team managed to touch the total of 200 in either of their innings while being bowled on each occasion. Team India suffered their first Test loss at the Eden Gardens in 13 years as South Africa defeated them by 30 runs, with the hosts failing to chase down the target of 124 runs. The brilliant show by spinner Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj, and a gritty half-century by skipper Temba Bavuma made a difference between the two sides. India's defeat at Eden Gardens also placed the match in a statistical context, as the target of 124 became the second-lowest total India has failed to chase down in Test history. The lowest remains 120 against the West Indies in Bridgetown in 1997. The result also marked South Africa's second-lowest successful defence in Test cricket. Their lowest remains 117 against Australia in Sydney in 1994. India also missed the services of captain Shubman Gill in the match, as he did not participate in the first Test against South Africa after suffering a neck injury while batting on day two, which led to his hospitalisation. During the second day of the series opener on Saturday, Gill was taken from the stadium to a private hospital for scans. Gill walked out to bat after Washington Sundar's dismissal and just played three deliveries before going off the field. In Gill's absence, his deputy Rishabh Pant captained the side during South Africa's second innings. Proteas will look to make history by clinching the series in the second and final fixture, scheduled to begin at Assam's Barsapara Stadium on November 22. (ANI)

"Build yourself some flat wickets": Alyssa Healy tips India after harrowing 30-run defeat against South Africa at Eden Gardens

New Delhi [India], November 17 (ANI): After the Indian team failed to chase 124 runs against South Africa in the first Test at Kolkata, Australia skipper Alyssa Healy believes India should make flat pitches instead of rank turners, saying they're preparing turning wickets that are backfiring, making it challenging for batters. Team India suffered their first Test loss in Kolkata in 13 years as South Africa defeated them by 30 runs, with the hosts failing to chase down a target of 124 runs. The match, played at Eden Gardens, saw South Africa's spinner Simon Harmer claim an eight-wicket haul, and Temba Bavuma score a gritty half-century, leading the Proteas to a 1-0 series lead. 'I just don't know what they're [India] doing to themselves. Batting against spin is not an easy thing around the world at the moment, even if you grow up on those wickets. And I think they should start working that out for themselves. They keep giving themselves turning wickets, thinking it's going to help them, and it hasn't. New Zealand beat them at home doing that. So, build yourself some flat wickets and let them go,' Alyssa Healy said on Willow Talk Cricket Podcast. From 2016 to 2019, India batters averaged 53.3 at home against spinners. However, from 2020 to the present day, the average has declined to 33.8 with a batting strike rate of 60. The result of the fallen average directly resonates with India's declining domination at home. Proteas will look to make history by clinching the series in the second and final fixture, scheduled to begin at Assam's Barsapara Stadium on November 22. (ANI)

Icarus' Future: A Miami-Born Campaign Telling COP30 Leaders Our Children's Future is at Stake - Just Won Seven LUUM Awards

World leaders must choose children, not oil profits. COP30 President: kick lobbyists out & end subsidies - https://act4icarus.org #EveryHeartbeatMatters #COP30 MIAMI, FLORIDA / ACCESS Newswire / November 17, 2025 / Our Present, Icarus' Future reframes the delay on climate action by centering parents, children, and human stories - using a visceral installation, a global petition, and an art contest to translate feeling into civic pressure ahead of COP30. Because the policy choices made today will determine the life chances of children born this year. Born on climate-vulnerable Miami Beach and amplified at Climate Week NYC, Our Present, Icarus' Future uses immersive storytelling to reveal how rising heat, sea-level rise, pollution, and extreme weather affect a child's lifetime to demand enforceable emissions cuts, an end to fossil-fuel subsidies, and limits on industry lobbying. By connecting the cautionary myth of Icarus to today's climate crisis, the campaign not only is raising awareness but also mobilizing public support to put pressure on world leaders to act decisively. To date, it has engaged an estimated 38.2 million people across digital and traditional media platforms, received tens of thousands of petitions, and just won seven LUUM Awards (2 Gold, 5 Silver), recognized across Causes, Human Rights and Health categories. The campaign is supported by Zubi, a creative agency specializing in culturally resonant, impact-driven work, and by VoLo Foundation, a family philanthropy that accelerates evidence-based climate solutions and community education. 'Winning at LUUM validates something we already believed: art can move people… and people move policy,' said Yoca Arditi-Rocha, CEO of The CLEO Institute. 'Today, as negotiators gather in Brazil, we ask leaders to make the hard choices: cut planet-warming emissions, end taxpayer subsidies for fossil fuel pollution, and keep industry lobbyists out of global climate talks. 'World leaders: you are guardians of the future, not its auctioneers. At COP30, choose children over corporate profit. Every heartbeat matters.' 'CLEO has masterfully used the myth of Icarus as a timely metaphor for the climate crisis. Just as Icarus' wings melted when he flew too close to the sun, our planet is at risk of a similar fate if we ignore the warnings of scientists. Icarus as a child, symbolizes the next generation who will inherit the world shaped by today's choices,' said Thais Lopez Vogel, cofounder and trustee of VoLo Foundation. 'I think as humans, we've grown indifferent to messages. We're bombarded with information every day, tied to multiple screens, and we no longer take the time to really listen. We've become immune. To break through that noise, we have to be disruptive and be unexpected. Our approach was to use a 'voice' that didn't speak with words, but whose life carried the message. A silent messenger, a baby, life itself, that made people stop and finally listen.' said Iván Calle, VP Executive Creative Director of Zubi Policy demands at COP30 Enforceable, rapid emissions reductions and an accelerated pathway to phase out fossil fuels. An end to fossil-fuel subsidies and public financing that incentivizes planet-warming pollution. Safeguards that limit special-interest influence and prevent fossil-industry lobbying from shaping UN climate negotiations. Learn more at: Act4Icarus.org Why this matters nowPublic funding continues to prop up the problem: fossil fuels receive roughly $1.5 trillion annually in direct subsidies and when indirect costs such as health and climate damages are included, support swells to roughly $7 trillion a year. Also, recent reporting last week shows a heavy fossil-fuel lobby presence at COP30; a dual political and financial barrier for these negotiations and the reason this campaign matters most now. Cities and regions like Miami already face rising costs and compounding disaster risk: home-insurance rates, infrastructure strain, displacement and disproportionate impacts on frontline communities. With the US absent in this global stage, the world is watching COP30. Political choices made this November will shape whether nations accelerate an equitable transition or bake in greater harm for future generations. The time is now. Later will be too late.
