Jasmine Paolini Reveals One Key Advice Jannik Sinner Gave her that Improved her Game

Jasmine Paolini has opened up about the advice that Jannik Sinner gave to her, which has improved her game on the court. However, the World No.8 refused to reveal in specific details what Sinner actually advised her on, as she believes that her opponents will use it against her on the court in the future. Paolini and Sinner are the leading stars of Italian women’s and men’s tennis. The former is currently World No.8, while the latter is World No.2 having recently dropped to the position after failing to defend the US Open title in September. Both players have also led Italy to the two biggest competitions in tennis. Paolini propelled Italy to defend their Billie Jean King Cup in Shenzen, China, while Sinner helped fire Italy to win their second Davis Cup title in Malaga, Spain. He will look to help the Italian team claim their third successive title in Bologna next month. Sinner won two Grand Slams this season – the Australian Open and Wimbledon Championships. The 24-year-old has dominated the men’s circuit alongside his arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz. He claimed his third title of the season at the China Open in Beijing after beating Learner Tien in straight sets. Meanwhile, Paolini’s biggest trophy has come from the WTA 1000 tournament, despite reaching two Grand Slam finals. On tour, women’s players rarely get an opportunity to discuss with their female counterparts. Despite that, Sinner and Paolini have maintained a good relationship. During an interview with Tennis365, Paolini revealed that during the 2024 Davis Cup Finals, Sinner shared advice to her ex-coach Renzo Furlan about her game: At the Davis Cup finals last year, my ex-coach Renzo (Furlan) was speaking with Jannik and I was surprised because he said I wasn’t doing something on the court. I can’t say what it is because my opponents will know then! My coach came to me and said: ‘Jannik has said you need to do this’. I mean, when Jannik tells you to do something, you just have to do it. How can you say no to Jannik’s advice? Nonetheless, Sinner was forced to retire from his third-round match at the Shanghai Masters after struggling with cramps during his intense battle against Dutch star Tallon Griekspoor. His retirement means he will not be able to defend the Shanghai title and his 1000 points, leaving his rival Alcaraz to cement his place as World No.1. Jasmine Paolini pays tribute to Jannik Sinner’s records on tour Jannik Sinner claimed his first Grand Slam at the 2024 Australian Open after beating Daniil Medvedev in the final. He claimed his second at the US Open, dominating the men’s tour that season by winning seven titles. He currently has four Grand Slams to his name and, in 2025, reached the final of all the major tournaments.

Shutdown: Voters say Democrats did it for illegal immigrants

Agreement from Republicans, at 76%, helped tilt the overall results, which showed 44% disagree with Miller, the architect of President Donald Trump’s border policies. On the opposite side, 66% of Democratic likely voters disagreed with Miller. LOL."But muh shutdown!"America doesn't give a CRAP 👇 pic.twitter.com/T8KPwjreZF— Mark Mitchell, Rasmussen Reports (@honestpollster) October 8, 2025 While the House has approved a spending bill that would reopen the government, action in the Senate has been stalled over a fight in which Democrats are seeking to continue COVID-era Obamacare subsidies that Republicans claim benefit some illegal immigrants. Republicans have urged Democrats to agree to the House plan and then enter negotiations over the subsidies for a future spending bill vote. But they are using the shutdown to pressure Republicans to cave in. The numbers were even closer on the question of which side is to blame for the shutdown. On that, Democrats came out on top as 41% blamed Republicans and 37% blamed the Democrats. A sizable 18% blamed both sides. SEE THE LATEST POLITICAL NEWS AND BUZZ FROM WASHINGTON SECRETS Despite the media’s focus on the shutdown with hyped-up stories of severe impacts to many, most said they haven’t seen any impact of the short shutdown. Just 17% said that they have felt a “major impact,” while 78% said that they have felt no or a minor impact. And with that media attention on the shutdown, most can’t ignore it, said Rasmussen. “Eighty-six percent (86%) of voters have been closely following news reports about the government shutdown, including 49% who say they’ve followed the news ‘very closely.’ Among those who have followed news about the shutdown ‘very closely,’ 52% agree with the quote from Miller,” said the pollster.

Jitan Ram Manjhi, Chirag Paswan post cryptic messages on social media, signal unease in NDA seat-sharing talks

Ahead of the final seat-sharing talks in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Union Ministers Jitan Ram Manjhi and Chirag Paswan posted cryptic messages on social media platform X, sending a clear signal to ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over their demand for a “respectable” share of seats. Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) founder Mr. Manjhi shared verses from Ramdhari Singh Dinkar’s Rashmirathi, implied the BJP was Duryodhana, unwilling to give away a meagre five villages to the Pandavas. The former Chief Minister modified the reference of five villages from the epic poem Mahabharata to 15 villages. “If justice be in half measure, then give but a half. And if that too faces an obstacle, then give but 15 villages, and keep the all the rest of thy land. We [HAM(S)] will happily eat in our share, and shall not raise a sword against our kinfolk,” Mr. Manjhi’s post read recounting Dinkar’s poem. The BJP-led NDA in Bihar comprises Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United), Mr. Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Mr. Manjhi’s HAM(S), and Rajya Sabha MP Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha. Mr. Manjhi has repeatedly said that this time he aims to secure recognition for HAM(S), founded in 2015, which requires winning at least eight seats. In the 2020 elections, the party was allotted seven seats and won four. Sources indicated that the BJP has offered no more than 10 seats to HAM(S). Discontent also exists over Kushwaha’s party receiving equal treatment despite having no MLA or MLC in the Bihar Assembly or Council. Amid the negotiations, Mr. Manjhi left for Assam on Sunday, likely returning on October 10. Speaking to a news agency, he said, “If my party does not get respectable seats, HAM(S) will not contest the Assembly election but will continue to support the NDA.” He added that his only demand was recognition for his party, not ministerial positions. Mr. Paswan also posted a message on X on the death anniversary of his father, Ram Vilas Paswan, “Papa always used to say, do not commit a crime, do not tolerate a crime. If you want to live, learn to die and learn to fight at every step.” Asked later about the post, Mr. Paswan said it was inspired by his father’s parliamentary speeches. “His speeches have helped in coming out and keeping myself stronger in the most difficult times when my party and family were broken. Media may try to infer a political meaning, but for me, it is those words which have kept me strong,” he said. He later visited Shaharbani, his father’s birthplace in Khagaria district, to pay homage to his statue with family members. When asked if he was satisfied with the number of seats offered, Mr. Paswan said, “Nothing has happened so far… talks are still going on. When it is finalised, we will announce it.” According to LJP(RV) sources, Mr. Paswan, whose party has five MPs, has demanded 30 Assembly seats, while the BJP is reportedly unwilling to offer more than 22. BJP sources indicated that the party is considering offering one Rajya Sabha and one Legislative Council seat to compensate.

Interest in women's sports is growing, women-owned companies are responding

Laura Youngson didn't expect to focus so much on football cleats when she organized a group of women to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and play a high-altitude match. The point of the 2017 game was to highlight inequality in sports for women and girls. On that front, Youngson achieved her goal with the match becoming the subject of a documentary and landing the group in the Guinness Book of World Records. Still, something bothered Youngson as the match unfolded. Glancing at the athletes' feet, she was struck that all the women were wearing men's or boy's soccer cleats instead of gear that was designed specifically for them. The realization led her to launch IDA Sports, which makes soccer cleats for the unique athletic needs of women. "There was this real commercial gap for performance footwear for women," said Youngson, whose IDA cleats are worn by players including Washington Spirit midfielder Courtney Brown. "As the game is growing, we're in this moment when everything's professionalizing, but the footwear wasn't really keeping pace, so I wanted to go and change that." IDA is among a growing number of companies founded in recent years to prioritize women in sports. These aren't just lifestyle or athleisure brands. Moolah Kicks, for instance, makes women's basketball shoes designed specifically for women's feet and counts Courtney Williams of the WNBA's Minnesota Lynx as one of its partners. Lindsay Housman founded Hettas, a performance running shoe company. Saysh, Olympic gold medalist Allyson Felix's running shoe company, allows buyers to make free exchanges when their size changes during pregnancy. Beyond shoes, Liv Cycling makes performance bicycles for women and there's even Indiana Fever partner Sequel tampons, which have spiraled grooves that help prevent leaks during strenuous activities. The companies are entering the market at a time when interest in women's sports is intensifying. The WNBA has shattered attendance records recently, lifted by the star power of players like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. National Women's Soccer League teams are worth 29% more this year than they were a year ago, with both Angel City and the Kansas City Current now valued at over $250 million. Several new pro sports leagues have formed in recent years, including the Professional Women's Hockey League and the 3-on-3 Unrivaled basketball league. The Women's Professional Baseball League is set to launch next year. Overall, women's sports generated global revenue of $1.88 billion in 2024 and is projected to rake in $2.35 billion this year, according to consulting firm Deloitte. Commercial revenue, including s ponsorships and merchandising sales, surpassed $1 billion globally for the first time last year. No more 'shrink it and pink it' All that growth means more opportunities for women-owned brands — and a chance to reject the "shrink it and pink it" mentality in which companies were criticized for taking men's products and selling them to women by making them pretty rather than functional. "Marketing is all about understanding the needs of consumers," said Dae Hee Kwak of the Center for Sport Marketing Research at the University of Michigan School of Kinesiology. "So thinking of the needs of the women's sports fan and athlete, who understands them better than women, right?" Leela Srinivasan, CEO of the sports marketing and sponsorship platform Parity, said men's products simply weren't built for women's bodies. "Women in motor sports will tell you that even the way the seat belts are designed, they don't fit right, they don't fall in the right places," Srinivasan said. "You talk to Lynn Saint James, the motor sports legend, about how she couldn't reach the pedals. Nothing has been designed with women's bodies in mind." Bonnie Tu, who founded Liv Cycling, experienced that problem with bicycles. "Whenever I'd go for vacation, I would take a bike from the hotel," Tu said. "Most of the time, I would get myself hurt because the bike doesn't suit me well. Because most of the bikes are meant for men, no matter if it's a mountain bike or it's road bike, it was all for men." Youngson similarly looked at biomechanical needs when designing cleats for IDA, resulting in a product that features a wider toe box, narrower heel and shorter studs than men's boots. For those who have spent decades in and around women's sports, these shifts represent a profound change. Natalie White, who founded Moolah Kicks after playing basketball in college and working on the business side of several WNBA teams, recalled always playing the sport in boy's and men's shoes. "It wasn't until I was a senior in college and I saw an advertisement that had more top WNBA players holding out men's shoes that it really hit me, 'Oh, my God, this is crazy.' When you begin your career, through pro, you're not only going to be playing in equipment that isn't fit for you, but you're going to be promoting it?" White said. "Oh my gosh, crazy." The bigger shoemakers, including Adidas and Nike, have developed women's soccer and basketball shoes in recognition of the growing market and the needs of the female athlete. Sabrina Ionescu has a signature shoe with Nike and, this past summer, Adidas released its first player edition of Adidas' F50 Sparkfusion cleat with NWSL star Trinity Rodman. Women want products without pandering Kwak said that in addition to products made specifically for them, women also value authenticity as consumers. And that means working with women's leagues, athletes and sometimes causes involving equity and social justice. IDA, for example, has partnered with the players' unions for both the NWSL and the Gainbridge Super League, a top-tier domestic professional women's soccer league that launched last year. Coalition Snow, a women-led ski and snowboard company based in Reno, Nevada, not only makes sure of safe and fair working conditions throughout its supply chain, it also uses recycled material for packaging and partners with a nonprofit to plant trees in rural Kenya for every board or pair of skis sold. Liv Cycling sponsors women's racing teams and competitions, like the Tour de France Femmes, in addition to community clubs. Athlete involvement in the creation of products helps, too. It's really what personalizes these companies compared to the sporting goods giants. But it's all about taking that first leap, Youngson said. "As the game grows and professionalizes, it should be attractive to brands," Youngson said. "So then you're going, 'Why aren't you doing it?' Because the money's there, the game's there. Why can't we have all of this choice around us in the same way that the men's game has?"

What to know about qualifying for the 2026 World Cup

The qualifying process for the 2026 World Cup is nearing conclusion. The biggest ever World Cup will see 48 teams competing in the tournament co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico. So far 18 nations have already booked their place — including defending champion Argentina — and they are set to be joined by a host of other teams during this month's international window. Here's what to know about the upcoming qualifying games. Who has qualified for the 2026 World Cup? Co-hosts: Canada, Mexico and United States. AFC: Australia, Iran, Uzbekistan, Jordan, Korea Republic, Japan CAF: Morocco, Tunisia CONMEBOL: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay Europe: None yet OFC: New Zealand Playoffs: Bolivia, New Caledonia How many teams qualify from each region? Asia has eight direct places and one entry to the intercontinental playoffs. Africa has nine direct spots plus one for the playoffs. North and Central America plus the Caribbean get three direct berths (plus the three host nations) and another two spots in the playoffs. South America has six direct spots and one playoffs place. Oceania has a guaranteed spot for the first time, which New Zealand clinched in March. It could add another with New Caledonia going into the playoffs. Europe will have 16 teams sure to play in the next World Cup — more than any other continent. What is the state of play?Africa Morocco and Tunisia have already qualified and seven more group winners will secure direct spots to the World Cup during this window. The four best runners up play in a knockout competition in November and the winner advances to the playoffs. Egypt, Senegal, Benin, Cabo Verde, Ivory Coast, Algeria and Ghana top their respective groups. Just two direct qualification spots remain in Asia and they will be decided in the fourth round of qualifiers this window. Two groups of three teams play in a round robin tournament with the winner of each group advancing to the World Cup. Group A features Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Oman, while Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Indonesia make up Group B. The runner-up from each group will play each other home and away next month for the chance to make the playoffs. Suriname, Jamaica and Honduras top their respective groups going into this round of games. Jamaica and Honduras can seal qualification, but both need to win both of their games and also require results elsewhere to go their way. Three previous World Cup winners from Europe can secure qualification to next year's tournament during the latest round of qualifying games, with France, England and Spain all in position to book their place. Five more teams can join them this month, including 2018 runner-up and 2022 semifinalist Croatia, as well as Slovakia, Switzerland, Norway and Portugal. Six teams will take part in a playoff tournament, with Bolivia and New Caledonia already confirming their places. Two teams from CONCACAF and one each from Asia, Africa, South America and Oceana will take part in the tournament held in March. Of the qualifiers, the four lowest-ranked nations will play in two semifinals, with the winner advancing to play one of the two highest-ranked teams. The winners of those matches advance to the World Cup. When is the 2026 World Cup The tournament will be played through June and July. It kicks off at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City on June 11, with the final held July 19 at MetLife Stadium, which will be referred to as the New York New Jersey Stadium during the tournament. When is the draw? The draw for the 2026 World Cup will be staged at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC Dec. 5.

Security a concern for Italy-Israel match as protesters demand match be stopped

Israel's World Cup qualifying match at Italy next week is expected to attract more pro-Palestinian protesters outside the football stadium in Udine than ticket-holding spectators inside the arena. Protesters already approached the gates of Italy's training center in Florence last week to demand that the match isn't played because of the war in Gaza — part of a national strike that saw millions of activists take to the streets. "It's not going to be a calm environment," Italy coach Gennaro Gattuso acknowledged Tuesday from inside the Coverciano training center that was targeted. "There will be 10,000 people outside the stadium and 5-6,000 inside the stadium." As of Monday, only 4,000 tickets were sold for next Tuesday's match at Stadio Friuli. While UEFA had been considering suspending Israel over the war and Udine Mayor Alberto Felice De Toni had called for the game to be postponed, with Italy desperately attempting to avoid failing to qualify for a third consecutive World Cup, the four-time champion doesn't plan to risk not playing. "We have to play this match. Because if we don't, we'll lose it 3-0," Gattuso said, referring to the rule for forfeited matches. "(Italian football federation) president (Gabriele) Gravina explained that very well." There was also tension on the field between the two squads after the final whistle when Italy edged Israel 5-4 in a nine-goal thriller last month in neutral Hungary — where Israel has been playing its "home" matches. Tuesday marked two years since Hamas' Oct. 7 attack on Israel plunged the region into the devastating war, The protesters in Italy and elsewhere have also been reacting to an international aid mission blocked by Israeli forces. "It's upsetting to see what's happening to innocent people and children," Gattuso said. "It hurts your heart." Italy and Israel are level six points behind group leader Norway, with only the first-place finisher in the group to qualify directly for next year's tournament in North America. The second-place finishers progress to a playoff — the stage where Italy was eliminated by Sweden and North Macedonia and ruled out of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, respectively. "Considering that we're trying to get to the World Cup and we need to give our absolute all, I'm sure you can understand that I would have preferred to play a home game with the enthusiasm that we saw in Bergamo a month ago," Gattuso said, referring to a 5-0 win over Estonia. Israel could also face protests during a visit to Norway on Saturday. The Norwegian soccer federation pledged to give its profits from ticket sales for the game in Oslo to humanitarian work in Gaza by Doctors Without Borders. Italy played Israel in Udine last October in the Nations League. That game went off without incident amid a heavy police presence and despite a pro-Palestinian demonstration before the game. Italy won 4-1.

Don’t Eat These Hello Fresh Meals, Officials Warn

Key Takeaways Officials warn folks to avoid eating certain Hello Fresh meals due to possible Listeria contaminationThe meals were made by FreshRealm, which is linked to a separate outbreak that has caused four deathsNo illnesses have been reported from the Hello Fresh meals WEDNESDAY, Oct. 8, 2025 (HealthDay News) — Federal health officials are warning consumers not to eat two types of Hello Fresh ready-made meals that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause serious illness. The warning came Monday after officials traced the affected Hello Fresh meals back to FreshRealm, a California-based company also linked to an ongoing national Listeria investigation involving ready-to-eat pasta. The warning covers: Hello Fresh Ready Made Meals Cheesy Pulled Pork Pepper Pasta (10.1-ounce containers); Est. 47718 (lot 49107) or Est. 2937 (lot 48840)Hello Fresh Ready Made Meals Unstuffed Peppers with Ground Turkey (10-ounce containers); Est. P-47718 (lots 50069, 50073 or 50698) Both products were shipped directly to customers nationwide by HelloFresh. Officials said the issue was discovered when FreshRealm reported that quick-frozen spinach used in the meals tested positive for Listeria. The spinach came from Sno Pac Foods of Caledonia, Minnesota, through its supplier, Del Mar Foods of Watsonville, California. The contaminated spinach did not match the strain connected to an ongoing national outbreak and no illnesses have been reported, according to FreshRealm. Consumers who may have purchased these products are urged not to eat them and to throw them out or return them to their place of purchase. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s alert follows a broader investigation into Listeria outbreaks linked to FreshRealm products. The company said tests confirmed the pasta used in some Walmart linguine dishes contained the same strain of Listeria responsible for an earlier outbreak tied to chicken fettuccine Alfredo. That outbreak has killed at least four people and sickened 20 others, with the most recent case reported Sept. 11, The Associated Press reported. Other retailers such as Kroger, Giant Eagle and Albertsons have also recalled prepared foods made with ingredients supplied by Nate’s Fine Foods of Roseville, California, where the outbreak strain was found. Listeria can cause severe illness, especially in pregnant women, newborns, older adults and folks with weakened immune systems. Common symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and seizures. Each year, about 1,250 people nationwide get sick from Listeria infections and around 172 die, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). More information The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has more on Listeria. The latest Giants injury is devastating for New York's already struggling offense heading into Thursday Night Football

Giants expected not to have Darius Slayton New York's passing offense produced a brutal performance against the New Orleans Saints in Week 5. It accentuated the lack of depth the Giants have at wide receiver, as their top three targets were tight ends and running backs. Daniel Bellinger led the team with 52 yards, Cam Skattebo had 45 yards, and Theo Johnson totalled 33 yards and two touchdowns. As soon as Nabers was lost for the season, it was apparent the Giants did not have enough talent at receiver to stress defenses. Naturally, losing a 1,200-yard receiver who was budding into one of the best young targets in the league is going to sap your explosiveness. However, the Saints' performance highlighted the limited options available.Slayton finished Sunday's game with 31 yards on three receptions. He also had a fumble that contributed to a brutal five-turnover day for the Giants. So far this season, he's contributed 12 receptions for 166 yards and no touchdowns.Slayton certainly was not on a track to emerge as an unexpectedly dominant target for Jaxson Dart. If anything, his early-season struggles put into perspective the confusing financial commitment they had to him this offseason. But his loss now puts the Giants' receiver room in dire straits a day out from their Thursday Night Football game with Philly. Wan'Dale Robinson proved against the Cowboys that he can be a 100-yard-plus receiver in this offense. However, after that, the rest of the group has little career production. The only active wide receivers available currently on the roster behind Robinson are Jalin Hyatt, Beaux Collins, and Gunner Olszewski. On their practice squad, they have Dalen Cambre, Lil'Jordan Humphrey, and Ihmir Smith-Marsette. With insufficient time to orchestrate a move, they'll need to elevate players from the practice squad. Yesterday, head coach Brian Daboll alluded to the likelihood of the team making an internal move to address Slayton. "Well, let's see where [Slayton] is at," Daboll told reporters, "If Slay can't go, then we’ll probably do something here. But I just want to see where he's at here in the next couple of days."After the Giants lost Nabers, it became clear that the team needed to be aggressive in finding solutions outside of the building. The current group hasn't been dangerous without Nabers diverting attention. They needed to either make a trade or sign a veteran with long-term experience. Not having Slayton is the worst-case scenario for their mismanagement of handling the WR room. It's just another example of the front office's ineptitude in planning and thinking creatively.

Acclaimed co-op game is permanently free on Steam after developer mix-up

Another Steam giveaway (Valve) The PC version of a well-received co-op puzzle game has been made free forever by accident, after it was updated with online functionality. Between subscription services like PS Plus and random giveaways on Steam, you’re never far from a freebie in the modern video game era. However, it’s rare to find a freebie because of accidental circumstances, although it is known to happen – as we recently saw with CarX Street, thanks to a PlayStation Store error. In the case of Pico Park, the giveaway isn’t down to a technical fault but an oversight from Japanese developer Tecopark, who forgot about the rules on Steam. The original Pico Park (now known as Pico Park: Classic Edition) was released in 2016 and is a co-operative action puzzle game for up to 10 players. In the game, you have to work together in levels to grab a key and escape through a door. The Classic Edition, exclusive to Steam, has been free already, for some time, but developer Tecopark planned to charge a ‘small fee’ following a recent update, which added online support and updated graphics. After the update was released on September 13, the developer planned to keep the game ‘free for about a week’ before charging for it again. However, Steam has limitations in place so developers can’t switch free games back to paid titles. Ugh,’ the developer wrote on X. ‘If you play this free version and have fun, try the series too.’ As such, Pico Park: Classic Edition, which carries a ‘mostly postive’ rating on Steam based on over 1,700 reviews, is now permanently free. Beyond the Classic Edition, there have been two other Pico Park games. An updated version of the original was released in 2021, which had online play at launch, and a sequel, Pico Park 2, which was released in September last year. The sequel, which features more game modes and 60 levels, is available across Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and PC for £7.49. 2021’s Pico Park, meanwhile, is £3.99 across Nintendo Switch and PC. The centre boasts of 18 well equipped classrooms, designed to foster learning and growth. The founder of the Centre Mr. Phyllis Malope, an experienced educationalist, spoke passionately about the mission of the centre: “We encouraged the Youth, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds to seize these opportunities. Once they complete their studies, we assist them in forming cooperatives and applying for funding to start their own businesses. Many of our graduates have gone on to become successful entrepreneurs“. Philani initiative has significantly contributed to turning around the lives of many young people in the area, offering them new hope and opportunities. A 19- year- old beneficiary Mr. Karabo Moremi said, ” On my first day, I was shocked to find out everything was free. I didn’t know what to expect, but I took as many courses as I could and completed all of them. Today, I’m working, and my parents are proud of me. This opportunity was the beginning of a new path, one I never expected but is fully embracing.” The ceremony marked a significant milestone for the graduates and their families, it was a day of immense pride, as their hard work was recognised and celebrated. Cultural immersion cruises bring destinations onboard

Cruise lines are increasingly bringing local culture onto the ship itself. Instead of limiting authentic encounters to shore excursions, many are adding regional food, music and crafts into the daily onboard experience. Celebrity Cruises’ upcoming Celebrity Xcel will debut The Bazaar, a multilevel space featuring destination-inspired markets, cooking studios, artisan workshops and cultural festivals. Building on the theme of culinary immersion, Silversea offers its Sea and Land Taste, or S.A.L.T. program, which showcases a test kitchen, regional menus that change with the itinerary and expert-led culinary excursions. Taking a more intimate approach, Windstar invites guests to join its Shop with the Chef excursion, which takes passengers into local markets to source ingredients that later appear on the ship’s menus. Collectively, these initiatives show how cruise lines are turning time at sea into opportunities for cultural engagement. Onboard experiences tied to the destination Immersive programming is replacing some of the traditional entertainment options with hands-on learning and regional enrichment. Viking integrates this into its voyages through port talks, lectures by resident historians, cooking school sessions and destination performances such as fado or opera. American Cruise Lines takes a similar approach on its U.S. river itineraries, bringing in local musicians and historians to add context. Oceania extends the trend further with its Culinary Center and Artist Loft, where passengers try cooking or art classes inspired by ports along the route. The approach is not uniform across the industry, and not every cruise emphasizes cultural immersion. But for travelers seeking more than leisure and amenities, these programs represent a shift in how time at sea connects to the places visited along the way. Celebrity Cruises’ bazaar at sea Celebrity Cruises will debut its 3,248‑passenger Celebrity Xcel in November 2025, introducing a new concept called The Bazaar. Spanning three decks, the sea‑day concept combines food, entertainment and retail tied directly to the most recent port of call. Guests may step into a marketplace where vendors sell sombreros after a day in Cozumel or offer rum tastings after leaving Puerto Plata. Local flavors, sounds and crafts come together in one place, with artisans sharing their skills through hands-on moments that connect people with culture. At night, bachata dancers set the tone, adding story to the ship’s journey. The experience flows naturally at Mosaic, where chefs reinterpret regional dishes with flair. Menus change with the itinerary, so dinner at sea feels like dining in the destination itself. “It essentially extends guests’ time in each port,” says Jeannette Coto Dou, Celebrity’s vice president of product development, in Conde Nast Traveler. This centers on how guests leave with memories of both the ship and the shore into a single continuous experience. Silversea’s S.A.L.T. program Silversea shows how cultural immersion cruises bring the destination onboard with its Sea and Land Taste or S.A.L.T. program introduced in 2021. The initiative not only brought food and heritage from ports onto ships but also helped set a standard to expand onboard offerings. Available on some sailings, S.A.L.T. Kitchen serves menus that change with every port, alongside a standing list of regional specialties. Guests pair these dishes with regional wines, creating meals that mirror the journey itself. At S.A.L.T. Bar, cocktails highlight local spirits and ingredients that tell the story of each region. The atmosphere encourages conversation about cultural traditions tied to conviviality and shared drinks. Hands‑on learning comes alive in S.A.L.T. Lab, where travelers cook local recipes with guidance from expert hosts. S.A.L.T. Talks and Experiences further extend the program with lectures, tastings and shore excursions that reveal how food connects to history, heritage and community. Stories, crafts and local voices Some boutique lines also add their own dimension to cultural immersion cruises with programs that prove the destination can follow guests onto the ship, and they highlight that smaller vessels can deliver heritage-rich experiences. Azamara Cruises has rolled out its Stories Under the Stars program, inviting local experts on board to share myths and legends beneath the night sky. In November, cultural specialist Thato Mahlangu will recount tales of the Grootslang serpent, said to guard riches in South Africa’s Richtersveld region, as Azamara Pursuit sails along the South African coast. Ponant has taken a similar path in Quebec, bringing Mi’kmaq storyteller Tim Adams onto Le Commandant Charcot during its new icebreaker sailings up the St. Lawrence River. His performances open a series of traditional showcases designed to give guests insight into Indigenous narratives while at sea. Beyond the ports Cultural immersion cruises revolve as much around the journey as the destination. Ships act as floating stages where food, music and stories extend the adventure well beyond shore days. These voyages make news in the cruise world by proving that culture sails alongside you, turning every moment at sea into part of the destination itself. Jennifer Allen is a retired chef turned traveler, cookbook author and nationally syndicated journalist; she’s also a co-founder of Food Drink Life, where she shares expert travel tips, cruise insights and luxury destination guides.
