Lauren Egerton on her golden fashion rule and the one item every woman needs

Influencer Lauren Egerton is known for her impeccable style, whether that's her hairdo, makeup choices or outfits. We chat to the Mullingar influencer about her fashion advice, her favourite place to shop and the most stylish place she's visited. What's her go-to item in her wardrobe? "Without a doubt it’s a blazer. I always say when in doubt throw on a blazer and you will look like you’ve got your life together. It’s my secret weapon. Whether I’m dressing it up with heels or throwing it over a top and a pair of jeans, it instantly pulls everything together. It’s classic, reliable and a bit bossy – a bit like myself." Her favourite place to shop is Dunnes Stores. "It’s the only place you pop into for a carton of milk and come out with a gorgeous new outfit. They are brilliant at keeping up with new trends without making you feel like you are trying too hard. It’s stylish, affordable and there’s always a hidden gem waiting to be found. It’s fashion that fits into real life and you don’t need to be a fashion expert to find what you love there." A trend she can’t get on board with is the micro bag trend. "The one thing I can’t get my head around is those teenie tiny handbags that you can barely fit a lipstick into. Personally, if I can’t fit my phone, keys, lip gloss and at least one emergency snack – it’s a no for me." Her style inspiration is her mother. "Without a doubt. She never follows trends, she just wears what makes her feel good. She has a real love for colour and patterns and she wears them so naturally. No matter where she’s going, even if it is only in to town for a few messages, she will make an effort, not to impress anyone but because she believes in showing up for herself. Her style isn’t just about clothes, it’s about joy, pride and a kind of grace you just can’t buy." Her golden fashion rule is to wear what makes you feel good, not just what’s in style. "Trends come and go, but if you feel like yourself in an outfit, it will always look right. Comfort is key, too. If you’re not comfortable, it shows on your face I think. So finding something that makes you feel relaxed and fully yourself, that’s what real style is about." What about her handbag essentials? "A good nude lip liner, my Clarins Lip Perfector gloss, a trustworthy powder for touch ups and another secret weapon – the smoothing brush from The Belle Brush. If I’ve got those with me I can handle anything (or at least I look like I can!)." Her best bargain buy is a beautiful pair of black heels from Zara. [I got them] seven years ago on sale for a bargain. I still have them to this day. They are by far my favourite pair of heels and they go with everything in my wardrobe." The most stylish place she has visited is the south of France, such as Monaco, Cannes and St Tropez. "I travel there often and I’m always inspired by the effortless elegance everywhere you look. The fashion has this beautiful mix of polish and ease – like they just threw it on and still look perfect. I could spend hours people watching." Colette Fitzpatrick is married to her Virgin Media colleague - and they have two kids

Colette Fitzpatrick has been a huge part of Ireland’s news coverage for over a decade. She is one of the main news anchors at Virgin Media, but her connection to the broadcaster goes beyond her career. Outside her TV career, she is married and has two children. Colette was born in June 1974, making her 51 years old. She is originally from Holycross in Thurles, County Tipperary. She was raised by her mother Phyllis and her father Peter, who was a Garda - and sadly passed away on 31 January 2019 at the age of 87. The journalist has one younger sister called Olivia, who Colette named her daughter after. Colette graduated with a degree in Journalism from DIT in Aungier Street, before going on to work at East Coast FM. She later joined Today FM and worked in the newsroom, where she edited and presented hourly bulletins, and reported on various stories. Colette moved on to TV3 in March 2001 to edit and anchor bulletins for Ireland AM - she also became a regular stand-in presenter on the morning programme, hosting alongside Mark Cagney, Alan Hughes and Aidan Cooney. During her time at the broadcaster, she reported on major stories, like the aftermath of the 2005 earthquake in Kashmir. Colette remained with the broadcaster when it became Virgin Media and is currently one of their main news anchors, fronting weekday bulletins at News at 12.30 and News at 5.30. There have been frequent change-ups at the broadcaster, with fellow journalists Claire Brock and Ciara Doherty leaving The Tonight Show last November. Earlier this year, Colette spoke about her future there, telling RSVP Magazine: “I love the newsroom. “I’ve been in the newsroom now for 15 years at this stage. I have no intention of moving anywhere until I am moved. I am happy where I am.” Colette is married to her Virgin Media colleague, Niall McDermot - the station’s studio director. They met while they were working at TV3 and tied the knot on 16 May 2009. Their wedding was a small and intimate affair, with 18 people attending the ceremony at Holy Cross Abbey in Tipperary. She spoke about what it’s like working with her husband in 2016, telling the Irish Independent: “Well, we've had plenty of arguments, but thankfully they've never spilled over to the next day so we haven't had to go into work on a row. “Nor, I can assure you, is Niall whispering sweet nothings in my ear. In the director's role, they give you basic, straightforward instructions, and most of the time I don't even see him at work because he'll be talking to me from a different room.” Colette and her husband Niall welcomed their first child, son Milo on 18 November 2010. The birth wasn’t easy as she previously shared that she was left on a trolley outside the delivery ward, where her waters were broken. She had her second child, a daughter named Olivia, in 2012.

‘Join Nnamdi Kanu freedom march’ – Ndi Igbo World Union tells Igbos

Ahead of the October 20 planned protest march for the release of detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, a global pan-Igbo association, Ndi Igbo World Union, has urged all Igbos to support the exercise. DAILY POST reports that the protest march, which is slated to culminate at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, is being organized by activist, Omoyele Sowore. Already, several prominent Nigerians, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, have joined their voices to the renewed calls for Kanu's release. In a statement issued in Peabody, Massachusetts, USA, on Monday, signed by Benjamin I. Nwankwo, Chairman, and Chief Charles C. Edemuzor, Secretary, Ndi Igbo World Union urged Igbos to stand up for justice by participating, or supporting the planned protest march to the Presidential Villa. Titled 'Clarion call to all Igbos worldwide: Stand up for justice — Join the #FreeMaziNnamdiKanu Now peaceful march to Aso Rock', the statement appealed to Igbos in all parts of the world to rise with one voice. The union emphasized that the exercise is not a violent protest. "The Ndi Igbo World Union, speaking from the heart of the global Igbo family, hereby issues this clarion call to every Igbo man, woman, and child — from Aba to Atlanta, Enugu to Edmonton, Nsukka to New York, and Owerri to Oslo — to rise in one voice of peace, unity, and justice in support of the ongoing #FreeMaziNnamdiKanuNow campaign. This historic peaceful march to Aso Rock on Monday, October 20, 2025, is not a protest of violence, but a moral pilgrimage of conscience — a call for Nigeria to return to justice, humanity, and the rule of law. "Our Collective Moral Duty: Mazi Nnamdi Kanu remains the pre-eminent freedom fighter of Africa, a man illegally renditioned and unjustly detained in violation of both Nigerian law and international conventions. His continued incarceration is a stain on the conscience of any nation that claims to practice democracy and justice. We, the Igbo and Biafran people worldwide, owe it to history and to posterity to stand in defense of truth and liberty," the statement said. Ndi Igbo World Union saluted all those who have added their voice to the demand for Kanu's unconditional release. "We salute the courage of Omoyele Sowore, Hon. Obi Aguocha, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, and every leader of conscience who has joined hands to demand Kanu’sfreedom. We equally urge members of the Abia State House of Assembly who first ignited this noble idea to key in fully, coordinate with the organisers, and demonstrate unity in purpose and spirit. Let every Igbo union, student body, market association, church, town union, and diaspora chapter mobilise peacefully and massively. Let our presence be a testimony that we have not abandoned our own." Stressing the need for peace, order, and dignity, the statement added, "We must uphold peaceful comportment and discipline throughout this campaign. We reject every form of violence, hate, or provocation. The world is watching — and our strength lies in our restraint and moral authority. Let our chants be songs of peace; let our banners proclaim justice; let our feet march with dignity." Cautioning protesters to "beware of mischief makers," the Igbo union added, "We caution all Igbo sons and daughters not to be swayed by quislings, detractors, and hired online mischief-makers whose only job is to divide and demoralize our people. Ignore them! Stand firm!! Truth and history are on our side!!!" "We call on the United Nations, the African Union, the ECOWAS Court, and the international community to take note: the detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is a human rights crisis, and the call for his release is a nonviolent, lawful, and global demand for justice," the union declared. Urging Igbos to ensure the success of the protest, Ndi Igbo World Union said, "Let this moment unite us as never before. Let us march for justice, not vengeance; freedom, not anarchy; unity, not fear. History has placed this responsibility on our generation. Let us not fail."
