London could get new zipline as Olympic Park plans submitted

London’s Olympic Park could soon be home to a 440-metre-long zipline. Proposals to run a wire from the ArcelorMittal Orbit tower as a visitor attraction have been submitted to Tower Hamlets and Newham councils. The ArcelorMittal Orbit is a 114.5-metre-tall observation tower, which offers views of London landmarks from its Stratford site. Built to commemorate the London 2012 Olympics, it is Britain’s largest piece of public art and the world’s longest tunnel slide. It was designed by Turner Prize-winning artist Anish Kapoor and Cecil Balmond, an engineer. Zip World, operator of the Orbit Tower, is seeking planning permission from both councils to install the new “unique and exhilarating experience”. The adventure brand took over operations in September 2024, promising to transform it into a “European first-of-its-kind adventure”. Zip World currently also runs attractions in Windermere, Manchester and at four locations in North Wales, including Penrhyn Quarry, home to the world’s quickest zipline. According to the Stratford proposal, the switchback zipline would launch from a platform on the existing ArcelorMittal Orbit structure in Newham, crossing over to a newly constructed return tower in Tower Hamlets. The proposed return tower is 38.7 metres tall with zipline cables fixed to the top. Thrillseekers will ride the zipline to the tower before returning to the launch platform. Zip World estimates that an additional 60,000 visitors will visit the attraction each year once the attraction is installed. Planning officers have recommended that the proposed development be “granted planning permission subject to conditions”. Conditions include the zipline operating only between 9am and 8pm, and no more than 60 rides per hour at a speed of 60km/h. Tower Hamlets Council is set to consider the proposal at a strategic development committee meeting on 22 October. It’s not the only new ride opening in the UK. The UK’s longest and tallest toboggan ride is set to open in Scotland next summer. Plans for the £1.2m track in the Cairngorms mountain range aim to “introduce something new” to the Scottish Highlands. The mountain toboggan will run for 1.2km and reach 715m above sea level at its highest point – the longest and highest of its kind in the UK. Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) Limited will build the track within the existing infrastructure at the base of the mountain. According to the Cairngorm Mountain resort website, the “lightweight aluminium” toboggan track will utilise an existing ski tow and mountain bike trails. How many dinosaurs are there in Jurassic World Evolution 3? There are nearly 100 dinosaurs in the game, spanning land, flying, and marine species, some of which thrive in living together and others that don't get on at all. Getting the right balance and ensuring your dinos' happiness is imperative to guest satisfaction and a well-run park. If you're jumping into the latest game in the series now that the Jurassic World Evolution 3 release date is here, we've put together a list of all the dinosaurs you can expect to see in the dinosaur game, from Brachiosaurus to Triceratops, including the best dinos in the game. Best Jurassic World Evolution 3 dinosaurs While the best Jurassic World Evolution 3 dinosaurs are down to personal opinion, there are ways to breed and create dinosaurs with more appealing traits, with the third installment now including juveniles, which either pick up the traits of their parents or can be hatched from incubation. Nurturing juveniles by creating high comfort levels is crucial in their early stages of development, as it shapes the adult dinosaur they will become, making a breeding program more viable and attracting happy guests. Each dinosaur and species also has an Appeal Rating, meaning how much guests want to see them, which impacts guest satisfaction and overall revenue. Smaller dinosaurs tend not to have as much appeal, but a good mix between large and smaller species and well-placed viewing platforms is the best way to increase Appeal Rating. It also can't hurt to have a T-Rex hanging about. How many dinosaurs are there in Jurassic World Evolution 3? There are 91 dinosaurs in Jurassic World Evolution 3, four of which are only available with the Deluxe Edition of the game. Trump has spent 700 percent more on deadly weapons for ICE this year. Here’s what they now have

ICE has spent more than $70 million on new weapons in the first nine months of President Donald Trump’s second term, a 700 percent increase on the same period in 2024, according to a report. Citing records from the Federal Procurement Data System, Popular Information reports that the immigration force, which answers to Kristi Noem’s Department of Homeland Security, spent $71,515,762 on purchases of “small arms, ordnance and ordnance accessories manufacturing” between January 20 and October 18. That compares to $9,715,843 in the equivalent period in 2024 under Trump’s predecessor, Joe Biden, and an average annual spend of just $8.4 million in the current president’s first term between 2017 and 2021. “Small arms” refers to armor, explosives, chemical weapons, pistols, and rifles while “ordnance and ordnance accessories manufacturing” denotes other materials like artillery, barrels, extractors, and mounts. While the majority of the money has been spent on guns and armor for field agents, the outlay has also seen ICE purchase “guided missile warheads and explosive components,” according to Popular Information. The Independent has contacted the White House, the DHS, and ICE for comment on the reasoning behind the drastically increased investment. Trump’s mission to bring about the “largest mass deportation program in history” by rounding up and removing undocumented immigrants in the United States illegally has seen ICE’s role greatly expanded and the agency flooded with federal funding. It currently estimates that it has approximately 20,000 active agents but Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin recently said it has received “more than 175,000 applications” to join its ranks as a result of an ad blitz on platforms like Spotify, X, Meta, YouTube, and LinkedIn, with “more than 18,000 tentative job offers” issued. McLaughlin added that the department’s “incentive processing,” such as signing-on bonuses, will continue during the ongoing U.S. government shutdown, which she blamed Democrats for. Official data published at the end of September reported that there are currently 59,762 people being held in ICE detention centers. The agency’s increased prominence has brought increased criticism over its methods, however. In June, its operations in downtown Los Angeles attracted mass protests, prompting Trump to activate the National Guard against the wishes of California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who warned it would escalate the existing tensions. ICE has also attracted a deluge of unwanted headlines for the administration, including the recent revelation that it has arrested at least 20 children who are American citizens this year, two of whom had cancer. Reports of operations involving armed agents “traumatizing” mothers and children and firing pepper balls at a priest attending a demonstration have not helped their publicity drive. “What we’re seeing is a general escalation of violence and the use of excessive force by ICE officers,” Ed Yohnka of ACLU Illinois told NPR recently. Yohnka has filed a lawsuit on behalf of protesters who believe that ICE’s tactics have violated their constitutional rights, stating: “All over the country, federal agents have shot, gassed, and detained individuals engaged in cherished and protected activities.” The suit accuses ICE and other federal agencies of “the dangerous and indiscriminate use of near-lethal weapons such as tear gas, rubber bullets, pepper-balls, flash grenades, and other unwarranted and disproportionate tactics.”

NY police seek woman for questioning after baby is abandoned at Penn Station subway stop

New York City police on Tuesday released images of a woman wanted for questioning after an infant girl with her umbilical cord still attached was abandoned at a busy midtown Manhattan subway station. The baby was left Monday in a passageway at the 34th Street-Penn Station subway stop during the typically crowded morning rush hour. The subway stop is attached to the broader Penn Station complex — the country’s busiest rail hub, which sits underneath the Madison Square Garden arena. Authorities are asking for the public's help in identifying the woman, who is seen on a 2-second security camera video clip on a city sidewalk carrying something that appears to be wrapped in a bundle and holding it like someone would hold a baby. Police are calling it a case of endangering the welfare of a child. The infant was found unattended and wrapped in a blanket, police said. She was taken to a hospital for an evaluation and listed in stable condition. Police said they received reports that an unidentified person left the baby in the station and fled. Officials cordoned off a section of the passageway and a staircase with yellow tape afterward. “I’m calling it the ’Miracle on 34th Street,'" Demetrius Crichlow, president of New York City Transit, told reporters, alluding to the classic Christmas movie. New York has a law that allows a parent to relinquish a newborn up to 30 days old at a hospital, or staffed police or fire station without fear of being prosecuted.

Tua can Start for Now; Ewers Should Start at QB from Thanksgiving On

And that quarterback may be in-house already in Quinn Ewers. Do I think Ewers is that guy? I don’t know, but if I had to bet a buck, I would lean no. But I have been wrong before, and more importantly than my dopey opinion, the Dolphins organization needs to find out for sure. If Ewers is that guy, Miami, with its Top 3 pick, can then draft an offensive tackle, edge rusher, cornerback, wide receiver, etc. Or, trade down and get more picks and select the best player available at a position other than quarterback. But, if Ewers isn’t that guy, and letting him start six games will give you a good idea if he is or not, then you hyper-focus on the quarterbacks in the 2026 NFL Draft, knowing you need to land one. LaNorris Sellers, Fernando Mendoza, and Dante Moore are the names that will be in play more than likely at the Top of the 2026 draft. It’s the same reason the Browns traded Joe Flacco, because they wanted to play Dillon Gabriel now to find out about him, and are weeks away from playing Shedur Sanders to see what he is and to determine if either is their quarterback of the future. I know looking to the Browns as the beacon of how to run an organization isn’t ideal, but in this case, they are taking the right approach. And the Dolphins are in a similar situation. Miami needs to decide whether to go all in and land one of the top quarterbacks in the 2026 draft, because in this league, there are two types of teams. Teams that have a quarterback, and teams that don’t. Right now, Miami falls into the category of teams that don’t have a quarterback. And if you are one of those teams, you’re essentially spinning your wheels in the mud, going nowhere. And don’t give me this BS that “well, the team is more than a QB away.” Duh, tell me something I don’t know. But do you think rookie quarterbacks are NFL-ready from day 1? You want them to take their lumps and learn on the job as the team rebuilds and gets back on track. Therefore, when the team is ready to compete, they are ready too. Find your quarterback, build around him. Every other position is much easier to fill. Yeah, I know we tried this approach once, and it has clearly failed, but that doesn’t mean you stop trying. The approach was correct in 2020; the execution is what failed. But before the Dolphins and whoever the general manager/head coach is in 2026 jump into the draft and look at the quarterbacks, they need to see if Quinn Ewers is the quarterback of the future. Although the general manager and head coach are not here yet, and we have no idea who they will be, the organization can still set them up for success by playing Ewers and gathering tape on him during regular-season games. I know the optics of benching a $200 million quarterback are bad. I know the message it sends to the rest of the team when you bench a $200 million quarterback is bad. But we also have to face a reality: Tua is not the long-term answer at quarterback. The first chance they can escape his contract and move on, they are! This Dolphins roster is getting blown up after the season. How many of these players will still be here a year from now? Answer: NOT MANY! So, I’m less concerned about the message it sends to a roster of players, most of whom will likely be gone by next year. I’m less concerned about optics at this point because Tua’s reputation in Miami and around the league has been sealed. Everyone has made up their mind on him at this point. There is a 6-year sample size on Tua, and a clear regression in his play. Nothing is going to change anyone’s opinion on him, whether he is benched or playing. Tua’s time is over with the Dolphins, one way or another. It’s time to give the keys to someone else and see if they can be “HIM,” as the kids say. And if that guy (Ewers) is not HIM, then at least we know, and the new powers that be know they have to go out and find the guy who is HIM.

Delta flight attendant dresses down Southwest Airlines gate agent as they go at each other in viral video: ‘Ghetto’

Footage appearing to show a Delta flight attendant slamming a Southwest Airlines gate agent in a public spat has gone viral after he called her “ghetto” in front of queues of customers. In the video posted on Instagram, the uniformed male flight attendant can be heard saying, “This is ridiculous. This is the worst airport, and y’all make Southwest look horrible” as he bickers with the rival gate agent in an apparent dig at their customer service. The fiery exchange occurred at Atlanta International Airport last week. It begins shortly after the Delta flight attendant landed. It is not clear exactly what caused the altercation. Shared to the account @thecrewroom_, the Delta attendant can initially be seen walking behind the Southwest agent before he begins bickering with her in a feud over their treatment of passengers and slamming her behaviour. “It’s ridiculous, it’s ghetto, and that’s because it’s Atlanta, y’all have no respect for customer service,” he says. “Y’all need to clean it up, because I’m just taking a flight and I don’t have to take Southwest, I can take Delta.” She can be heard telling him to “lower your tone,” but he only appears to get more irritated. “Get your hands out of my face,” he says. “You are something. You are nothing. Where’s your name tag at? You ghetto.” He continues to say he was told “not to come” to Atlanta and “not to transfer here” because the people were “ridiculously ghetto”, adding: “This is supposed to be the Black Mecca and y’all can’t even carry yourself with class and respect”. Commenters were split on who to support. Some said they “agreed 100 percent” with the Delta attendant, but others warned that he, too, was acting unprofessionally. “I agree 100 per cent with him,” one wrote. “Quit acting like you’re in the ghetto.” “I was searching for the lie the whole time,” another said. But others criticised him for arguing with the flight agents in public. “I don’t do that type of stuff...’ and yet he carries out this unnecessary confrontation publicly interrupting the peace of the passengers and staff,” one wrote. “Alll of that wasn’t necessary!,” another commented. “Why isn’t he on a Delta flight?” A Delta spokesperson said, “We’re looking into the authenticity of this video. If it is confirmed, we will address the matter internally. Civil conduct at all times is expected by those who represent our brand.” The Independent has contacted Southwest Airlines for comment.
