Netflix Friends fans impressed after learning Jennifer Aniston 'hated' storyline

Friends fans were impressed with star Jennifer Aniston after learning which storyline from the hit sitcom she “hated” and was opposed to. The Hollywood superstar, 56, shot to fame playing stylish Rachel Green for 10 years on the iconic series, which is still available on Netflix to this day . Friends first hit our screens in 1994 and introduced devoted audiences to Rachel and the rest of the friends, made up of Monica Geller (Courteney Cox), Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow), Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc), and Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry). The show was a global sensation and, despite the final episode airing in 2004, still has millions of fans all over the world who continue to watch it regularly. There are many famous moments and storylines from its 10-season run - from Rachel and Ross’s first kiss in Central Perk, to Chandler and Monica’s secret romance, as well as Phoebe being a surrogate for her brother’s triplets, plus many more. In the show’s final season though, Jennifer Aniston was “horrified” by a storyline involving her baby daughter Emma entering a baby beauty pageant. The storyline unfolds in the eighth episode, ‘The One with the Late Thanksgiving’, in which the friends pressure a fed-up Monica to host Thanksgiving dinner, only to all be several hours late for differing reasons. Rachel and Phoebe are late after Phoebe suggests they enter Emma into a baby beauty pageant where she could win $1,000 (approximately £760). In commentary for the episode, Friends co-creator and writer David Crane revealed Jennifer Aniston was “horrified” by this storyline. A snippet of the episode and commentary was uploaded to Reddit , where Crane can be heard explaining: “There’s a lot of debate about this baby beauty pageant story. We needed just something at the beginning that would get Phoebe and Rachel to be late and gave us a lot of jokes and was a lot of fun. “But we were going with, ‘Phoebe’s into a beauty pageant? Rachel goes along with this?’ And when we showed it to the actors, Jennifer had a really strong response. “She just was horrified that she’s entering her baby in a baby beauty pageant, and we basically said, ‘yeah, you’re right but it’s only one scene and she wins and there’s money’.” Ultimately Jennifer did film the episode as planned. Crane added: “I think Jennifer didn’t want to make us have to rewrite it so she got on board but it’s definitely a dicey thing. I think had we done a whole story about entering Emma in a beauty pageant, there would have been real trouble.” In the comments section, Friends fans were keen to share their thoughts. One simply said: “I don’t blame her”. Another agreed: “Toddler/Baby beauty pageants should not exist, Jennifer is totally right to feel that way. I think it’s just gross and creates several complexes and is a hunting ground for insecurity and fishy behaviour. I was wondering if anyone in the cast disliked this idea”. A third commented: “and she has every right to be, why make some baby go through that this shouldn't exist”. Another added: “This is my least favourite Thanksgiving episode. It's SO disjointed. And the baby beauty pageant just doesn't make sense for any of the characters.”

Police warn of dangerous counterfeit Halloween candy that looks just like the real thing — here’s how to spot it

Halloween is here, and officials across the country are warning parents and caregivers to keep an eye on their children’s treats. Government and law enforcement officials are advising parents to be extra vigilant when checking the packaging of candy and snacks given out on Halloween, as it’s becoming harder to spot counterfeit candy containing recreational drugs. The warning comes after a police department in Michigan found counterfeit candy and snacks containing THC and hallucinogenic mushroom products while carrying out a search warrant at a local residence. According to the police, the counterfeit products were in packaging that looked just like the authentic product. “Our investigation revealed that certain candies and snacks were deliberately made to look like everyday treats, but actually contained dangerous substances such as THC and psilocybin mushrooms,” Warren Police Commissioner Eric Hawkins said in a statement. “We’re grateful to have removed these items before they could fall into the hands of children. “We thought to ourselves, ‘Wow, if a group of trained investigators looked at this and didn’t pay any attention, what’s your average kid gonna do on Halloween?,” Lt. John Gajewski, public information officer for the Warren Police Department in Michigan, told ABC News. “We just felt we wanted to get this message out there to parents and children to be vigilant this Halloween season.” While Gajewski said that the police department have no evidence that these phony products were going to be used to hand out to children on Halloween, he still warned parents to be keep an eye out for products that may contain recreational drugs. “If you’re possessing these legally in your house, and you want to use them, that’s your business,” he said. “But put them away, lock them up like medication, so that somebody, an adult or a child, doesn’t get them accidentally.” Gajewski said parents should look for “unusual symbols, unusual odors, anything that may indicate this isn’t normal,” and if they have concerns they can contact their local police department. He also advised people against consuming candy that is unwrapped or comes from an untrusted source. In Arkansas, some of these products might even be found in gas stations or convenience stores in plain sight. “The concern for us is that a lot of these products very closely resemble products that kids normally consume that are available in gas stations or grocery stores,” David Potter, regulatory enforcement director for Arkansas Tobacco Control, told ABC Little Rock station KATV-TV. Officials noted to ABC News that the makers behind the real candy products are not behind the counterfeit ones, and Ferrara Candy Company added that its products found at major retailers are safe. “We are deeply concerned that our candy packaging imagery or deceitful lookalike logos are being used…intentionally or otherwise, [on] unregulated products that have been demonstrated to be unsafe for children,” the company said in a statement.

MLBPA youth baseball company under federal investigation for suspiciously spending millions

A youth baseball company owned and created by the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) is under federal investigation for how it has allocated resources, according to ESPN. Players Way, based out of Florida, spent at least $3.9 million but has not hosted many live events while barely clearing “six figures” in revenue since its 2019 inception, per the report. The criminal investigation reportedly is being run by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn, which issued the recent indictments for Chauncey Billups, Terry Rozier and Damon Jones, along with syndicated crime members, in the NBA gambling scandal. Players Way launched in 2019 and its website states that it’s the “official youth development initiative” of the MLBPA and is supported by current and former players. Featured prominently on the homepage is a quote from MLBPA executive director Tony Clark touting the program’s mission, stating the company was founded “to provide you with access to current and former professional players who want to share their knowledge and experience.” A former finance official alleges that Clark approved six-figure payments to Players Way, a company which another ex-official labeled as a “total waste of money.” “From its creation in 2019, the mission of Players Way has been clear: To empower tomorrow’s generation of players by providing access to the knowledge, experience, and talents of the best our game has to offer — our current and former members — and to serve as an oasis for young athletes and families who too often get exploited in today’s billion-dollar ‘youth sports’ machinery,” Clark told ESPN in a statement. “Any suggestion that Players Way has not been supported by our elected Player representatives and broader membership is patently false. Players Way has been front and center at every annual meeting of the MLBPA Executive Board in recent memory, and our dialogue with Players regarding youth development continues throughout the calendar.” An anonymous complaint filed last November accused Clark of “self-dealing, misuse of resources and abuse of power at the union,” plus nepotism in relation to how Players Way is operated, per ESPN. The MLBPA told ESPN at the time that the allegations were “entirely without merit,” and Clark and other top union officials have since described the accusations as “baseless” to ESPN. Former union executives allege Clark placed some confidants within the company, while the whistleblower complaint says one of Clark’s daughters worked for Players Way. He’s also accused of arranging for her to work at another union because of his influence, and she joined the NFL Players Association in 2022. She reportedly resigned in 2024 following some backlash from union officials who opposed Clark, having earned $13,300 from the union for serving as a Players Way consultant. MLBPA officials have said they invested $3.9 million into Players Way, but the real figure is closer to $10 million, according to ESPN. That money allegedly is most directed toward paying executives and consultants $100,000-plus salaries, and a former senior union official detailed Players Way’s financial situation to ESPN as a “black box.” The union told ESPN that Players Way held six youth clinics, four “mental skills webinars” and a few “panel discussions” from 2019 through November 2024, and there reportedly has been an uptick in events coinciding with the investigation. “We had no events, we had no activities, we are not publicizing, we are not partnering with other youth groups,” a former official told ESPN. “There was no clear goal.” Union executives would not discuss to ESPN how Players Way has spent the money it has received and whether it falls under the “discretionary” part of the MLBPA’s budget. Several former union executives told ESPN that Players Way did not follow “standard” accounting directives and senior-level finance workers did not know the program’s budget. An MLBPA official told ESPN that Players Way did not have a budget and was “part of the overall org budget” and insisted that finances were tracked like any other MLBPA enterprise. Union filings available to the public list the MLBPA giving Players Way $83,550, but “nearly all the $3,891,249 the union said Players Way has spent came from Players Inc.,” per ESPN. MLB Players Inc. is the “for-profit corporate subsidiary of the Players Association.” The union told ESPN that Players Way spent $181,054 and maxed at $1,127,656 in 2024, with $647,058 being used this year. However, sources told ESPN that Players Inc. has contributed much more, allegedly contributing more than $2 million over an 18-month period and $1 million during times where money was tight. Players Way allegedly spent $1.2 million from 2022-24 that had been given by Fanatics Inc., the mega apparel company and sportsbook that partners with the MLBPA. Fanatics reportedly agreed to pay the union $400,000 yearly from 2022-24 to contribute to youth baseball causes after agreeing to an exclusive licensing deal regarding cards. “We were and continue to be excited to invest with MLBPA in Players Way as part of our multi-billion-dollar long-term partnership,” a Fanatics spokesman told ESPN. “Youth baseball development is critical to the success of the sport and we have complete confidence that the MLBPA will invest the funds in a way that creates long-term value for all parties involved.” One higher-up player in the union expressed concern to ESPN, saying “It doesn’t matter how much we’ve made. Waste is waste.” “And given the level of frustration we’ve had with [union leadership] about this sort of stuff, it’s going to come up,” the individual told the outlet. “Whenever Players Way is mentioned, we all just nod along. But I don’t think any of us realized it cost as much as it did.” This is not the first time in recent memory that the union’s finances have come under the spotlight, with the MLBPA’s connection with OneTeam Partners previously coming under investigation. Sources told ESPN that the investigation broadened to include Players Way. Investigators have asked individuals about allegations of extravagant spending by the union on world trips for Clark and other top executives, per the report.

Rangers Triumph 3-1 Over Kilmarnock: Danny Rohl Leads Ibrox Team to First Home League Victory

As the clocks wound back this weekend, Rangers fans are likely feeling that Danny Rohl’s arrival couldn’t have been more timely. In his debut match at Ibrox since assuming the role, the new German head coach steered the team to their inaugural home league win of the season. For a club of Rangers’ stature, having to wait until late October to achieve this milestone underscores the season’s challenges, reminding all that it’s too early for overconfidence. Rangers currently sit 13 points behind league frontrunners Hearts, with Celtic maintaining a five-point lead, despite their own struggles reaching new lows at Tynecastle. Nonetheless, Rohl can find encouragement in the decisive victory over Kilmarnock, particularly witnessing Youssef Chermiti net his first goal for Rangers since his high-profile transfer from Everton during the summer. Chermiti’s goal, which secured Rangers’ third of the match with 20 minutes remaining, marked his first club level score since May 2023, adding to the team’s much-needed boost. It was not a perfect performance by any stretch of the imagination, with occasional defensive lapses and a Jack Butland error allowing Killie back into the game at one point. But this was nonetheless a clear step forward from not only the Europa League defeat to Brann, but also anything witnessed under Russell Martin. Rohl cut an animated figure on the touchline. If Rangers looked lazy and disjointed in their pressing under Martin, often leaving themselves wide open, that is unlikely to be the case under the German. Rangers looked much more cohesive as a unit, with Rohl urging them to be aggressive and win the ball higher up the pitch. Rohl’s reign may only be in its infancy, but this felt like lift-off in terms of reconnecting the team with a previously disillusioned fanbase. With a trip to Easter Road to face Hibs on Wednesday, followed by a Premier Sports Cup semi-final against a wounded Celtic at Hampden next weekend, his arrival has come not a moment too soon. Despite the shambles of what was allowed to unfold under his predecessor, there was enough in this performance to suggest that Rangers could yet salvage something from this season. On the back of such a dreadful performance in the 3-0 Europa League defeat to Brann on Thursday night, Rohl had only one training session in which to try and engineer some kind of change. He opted to make three changes to the team from that debacle in Norway, with Mohamed Diomande, Bojan Miovski and Danilo coming in to replace Joe Rothwell, Oliver Antman and Youssef Chermiti. This was a first start in two months for Danilo, going all the way back to the 6-0 hammering against Club Brugge, and his inclusion alongside Miovski marked a change in shape for Rohl’s new-look side. Rohl deployed a back three of Derek Cornelius, John Souttar and James Tavernier, with Jayden Meghoma and Djeidi Gassama operating as the wing-backs. Nico Raskin and Diomande formed the base of the midfield, with Danilo and Thelo Aasgaard playing narrow just behind Miovski in a sort of 3-4-2-1 shape. Kilmarnock, meanwhile, made two changes from last weekend’s defeat to Hearts. Jamie Brandon and Brad Lyons came into the starting line-up at the expense of James Brown and Liam Polworth. Rangers started the match well and took the lead on 15 minutes, albeit they were aided by some woeful defending form Killie at a set-piece. Seeking to defend a Tavernier free-kick from out wide in the left channel, the visitors’ defensive line was far too high and static. Cornelius was allowed to drift into the penalty area unmarked and the Canadian international made no mistake as he planted a header beyond Edward Beach to notch his first goal since joining Rangers. The change of shape looked like it suited Rangers. They were overloading Killie in the central areas and looked more solid overall. But the new system could not legislate for a terrible mistake from Jack Butland which allowed Killie to equalise on 40 minutes. Greg Kiltie swung in a corner and, as they have done so often in recent times, Rangers looked weak and indecisive in their efforts to clear the danger. Butland came off his line and attempted to punch the ball away, but got nowhere near it. The Rangers keeper completely flapped at it, with the ball dropping for George Stanger to convert at the back post. Rangers thought they had restored their lead almost immediately when a bizarre punt up the pitch from Beach cannoned back off Cornelius and allowed Miovski to head in, but it was ruled out by VAR for offside. That was the only really meaningful contribution from Miovski in what had been a poor first half. He is not yet fully up to speed, with his touch looking very clumsy. The North Macedonian striker was subbed off at half-time, with young Mikey Moore sent on to replace him in a rejigged Rangers attack. Danilo was the man tasked with replacing Miovski as the lone central striker – and it paid dividends within five minutes of the restart. Meghoma sent in a good cross from the left and Danilo had peeled off the back of Killie defender Robbie Deas, steering a header past Beach and in off the post for 2-1. Having blundered for the Kilmarnock equaliser, Butland went some way to making amends when he got down low to make a good save from a Bruce Anderson header on 57 minutes. Playing with a renewed sense of purpose and potency, Rangers were probing for a third goal to put the matter beyond doubt. That it was Chermiti who delivered it only a couple of minutes after coming off the bench brought the loudest cheer of the afternoon. Much-maligned since his summer move from Everton, the Portuguese striker took aim from 25 yards and unleashed a powerful drive. Beach made a mess of the save, getting a hand to it but palming it back into the opposite corner of the net. With that, Chermiti and Ibrox breathed a huge sigh of relief. The atmosphere inside the stadium felt different. This was an upgrade on pretty much everything witnessed on the domestic front under Russell Martin. For the first time all season, the crowd actually began to enjoy what they were watching, applauding some neat flicks and tricks form the likes of Aasgaard and Moore. Raskin had a goal ruled out for offside after a neat exchange of passes with Moore as Rangers sought to apply a little more gloss to the scoreline. But, all in all, it was a satisfactory afternoon for Rohl and his players. Stiffer tests will lie ahead, but, with the Ibrox crowd united in chanting the name of their new head coach, this was a step forward on and off the pitch. Rangers (3-4-2-1): Butland 6; Tavernier 6, Souttar 7, Cornelius 7.5, Meghoma 7.5; Diomande 7 (Barron 62), Raskin 7.5, Aasgaard 7.5, Gassama 6 (Aarons 62), Miovski 5 (Moore 46), Danilo 7.5. Substitutes: Kelly, Rothwell, Chermiti, Cameron, Djiga, Curtis. Booked: Souttar. Kilmarnock (5-3-2): Beach 5; Brandon 5, Stanger 6.5, Mayo 5, Deas 5, Thompson 4; Lyons 6, Watson 6.5, Kiltie 6; Dackers 5, Anderson 5. Substitutes: Oluwayemi, Williams, McKenzie, J. Brown, Tiffoney, Lowery, Schilte-Brown, Brannan, Polworth. Booked: Dackers, Thompson. Referee: Kevin Clancy. Attendance: 49,681. Man of the match: Jayden Meghoma.

FIDE World Cup 2025: India’s golden generation led by world champion Gukesh D poised for glory

Panaji, Oct 30 (IANS) A strong Indian contingent, led by World Champion Grandmaster Gukesh Dommaraju, and the entire Olympiad-winning squad will once again look to assert the country’s supremacy on the world stage as they compete for the coveted FIDE World Cup 2025 crown here starting from Saturday. The FIDE World Cup, one of the most prestigious global chess event, is being held in India after a gap of 23 years. In these two decades, Indian chess players have already made a mark on the world stage, with the country now boasting more than 85 Grandmasters–nearly eight times more than it did when the World Cup was last staged in India. In this edition, GM Gukesh Dommaraju, GM Arjun Erigaisi and GM R Praggnanandhaa have been given the top three seedings, while every 10th chess player who has qualified for this 206-strong field will be an Indian. Dutch GM Anish Giri will be the highest-ranked foreign player at four. Two-time former champion Levon Aronian of the USA will be the only past winner in action in Goa and has been seeded 15th in the competition. Meanwhile, reigning champion GM Magnus Carlsen won’t be defending his title, while 2021 winner GM Jan-Krzystof Duda of Poland has opted out. The FIDE World Cup 2025, which carries a prize purse of $2,000,000, will follow a single-elimination knock-out format in which each round will have two classical games followed by a tiebreaker if required. The tie-breaker will consist of two Rapid Games while the single-bidding Armageddon will be employed if no result is achieved at the end of the Rapid games. The event also offers three spots for the Candidates 2026, which will decide Gukesh’s opponent for the next World Championship cycle. Among the other participants, GM Anish Giri and GM Matthias Bluebaum of Germany have already qualified for the Candidates event through the FIDE Swiss Tour and if any of them or Gukesh finish in the top-three the Candidates spot will be awarded to the next player in the standings. The legendary Viswanathan Anand won the first two editions of the World Cup played in Shenyang, China and Hyderabad, India. These two editions followed a round-robin-cum knock-out format. But since 2005, the World Cup follows a single round elimination system with total number of players increased to 206 since 2021 with the top-50 ranked players getting a bye in the first round. Third seed Praggananandhaa had reached the summit clash in the last edition in 2023 and will look to go one step further on home turf. He is likely to open his campaign against 126th ranked Jan Subelj of Slovakia in the second round with compatriot Raunak Sadhwani to be a potential third-round opponent. Gukesh’s second round opponent is likely to be Kazybek Nogerbek of Kazakhstan while Arjun may face Krikor Mekhitarian of Brazil at the same stage. Apart from this trio, India’s hopes will rely on Vidit Gujrathi, P Harikrishna, Aravindh Chithambaram, Nihal Sarin, Karthikeyan Murali among others and all of them will be in action only in the second round. FIDE Women’s World Cup champion Divya Deshmukh of India will be the only woman in the field after she received a wild card entry. The Nagpur-born player will open her campaign against Greek GM Stamatis Kourkoulos Arditis and if she clears this hurdle, compatriot Nihal Sarin awaits her in the next round. Argentinian prodigy Faustino Oro is the youngest player in the competition. The wild card entrant International Master turned 12 only two weeks before the start of the competition and will face GM Ante Brkic of Croatia in the opening round. Oro, who already has earned one Grandmaster Norm, can fast-track his journey to becoming a GM if he can reach the Round of 16. There are a total of 30 teenagers in the competition, while Georgia-born GM Igor Efimov will be the oldest participant at the age of 65. Now representing Monaco, Efimov qualified for the World Cup by winning the 2024 Small Nations Open Championships and is set to take on Turkish GM Ediz Gurel, who is 49 years younger than him. Every player losing in the first round will earn $3500 while the winner will take home a prize purse of $120,000.

PM Modi, Amit Shah and Nitish Kumar slam INDIA Bloc in Bihar (Round Up)

Patna, Oct 30 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami launched a coordinated offensive against the Congress-RJD Grand Alliance, accusing its leaders of spreading falsehoods, insulting the Hindu faith, and pushing Bihar back into an era of misgovernance and corruption. Addressing a massive rally in Muzaffarpur, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tore into Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD’s Chief Ministerial face Tejashwi Yadav, calling them princes of corruption who are out on bail in multi-billion-dollar scams. “In the electoral battle of Bihar, a pair of young men (who consider themselves princes) have opened a shop of false promises,” Modi said. “They insulted me and even Chhathi Maiya, calling the sacred Chhath festival a drama. Can any Bihari tolerate such an insult to Chhathi Maiya? These people, born into privilege, cannot digest that a tea seller from a poor family has reached this position,” he added. The Prime Minister said that the INDIA Bloc’s leaders are afraid to go to Ayodhya after the construction of the Ram Temple, fearing it would upset their vote bank politics. He reiterated his government’s commitment to getting Chhath Mahaparv included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List, calling it a festival of humanity and devotion. Later, addressing another rally in Chhapra, PM Modi dismissed the Grand Alliance’s attacks as signs of infighting between Congress and RJD. “Their relationship is like oil and water. On the ground, their workers are fighting each other, but greed for power has brought them together,” he said. He also alleged that the RJD and Congress are identified by five things: guns, cruelty, bitterness, misgovernance, and corruption. “Those who kept Bihar in the lantern age can never bring electricity, and those who looted railways can never improve connectivity,” he added. In Lakhisarai, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also hit back at Rahul Gandhi for his recent remarks on PM Modi, accusing him of insulting the Prime Minister and Chhathi Maiya. “This is Bihar. The people here will give a befitting reply to Rahul Gandhi and the Grand Alliance on November 6 and 11. When the ballot boxes are opened on November 14, everything will be clear,” Shah said while campaigning for BJP candidate and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha. Shah accused the Lalu-Rabri regime of bringing “jungle ra”j to Bihar, where kidnapping, ransom, and murders were rampant. “Nitish Kumar ended that jungle raj and brought an era of development. Together, Nitish and Modi have built a strong foundation for Bihar’s future,” he said, praising both leaders for maintaining corruption-free governance. In Motihari’s Harsiddhi constituency, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami addressed a public rally in support of BJP candidate Krishnanandan Paswan. Dhami accused Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav of having no roadmap for Bihar’s development and engaging only in divisive politics. He said, “Just as we stopped love jihad, religious conversions, and illegal madrassas in Uttarakhand, similar laws will be brought to Bihar if the NDA comes to power.” He added that those who mock festivals like Chhath are anti-Sanatan Dharma. HAM national president Santosh Suman, sharing the stage, mocked Tejashwi Yadav, saying, “Some people dream at night of becoming Chief Minister and start making announcements in the morning. But Bihar doesn’t need a government that brings back jungle raj.” Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, addressing a rally in Jamalpur constituency of Munger district, highlighted his government’s development achievements and hit out at the Lalu family for promoting dynastic politics. He said that before 2005, there was no rule of law in Bihar. “People locked themselves inside their homes after sunset. Roads were broken, education collapsed, and electricity was absent. After 2005, development and rule of law returned to Bihar,” Nitish said. Listing his government’s achievements, he mentioned the recruitment of 2.58 lakh teachers through BPSC, free treatment and medicines since 2006, and the opening of 27 new medical colleges. Under the Saat Nishchay Yojana, he said 40 lakh people had received jobs, and the goal was to employ one crore youth in the next five years. Highlighting women’s empowerment, he said 50 per cent reservation has been provided in the Panchayati Raj and 35 per cent in the police force, with over 1.40 crore Jeevika Didis actively participating in self-help initiatives. He also announced 125 units of free electricity for every household and a Rs 1,100 monthly pension for the elderly and disabled. Nitish Kumar said the state and central governments were working closely for Bihar’s progress and took a jab at the opposition. “When Lalu Prasad was removed from power, he made his wife the Chief Minister. That’s their model of dynastic politics,” Kumar said.

Rajasthan: Ethiopian delegation visits Rajeevika to study rural livelihood initiatives

Jaipur, Oct 30 (IANS) A high-level 29-member delegation from the Government of Ethiopia visited Rajasthan on October 29 and 30 to gain insights into the community-based livelihood and women’s empowerment initiatives being implemented under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) in the state. The delegation comprised 15 members from the Ethiopian government, three from the World Bank, seven from Micro-Save Consulting, and four from the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM). The visit aimed to understand the structure, implementation, and outcomes of Rajasthan’s rural livelihood programs facilitated by the Rajasthan Grameen Ajeevika Vikas Parishad (Rajeevika). On October 29, the Ethiopian delegation visited various villages in Alwar district, where they interacted with Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Village Organisations (VOs), and Cluster-Level Federations (CLFs) managed by women under the Rajeevika framework. The delegation observed the processes of SHG formation, inter-loaning mechanisms, and income-generating activities undertaken through Producer Groups (PGs) and Producer Enterprises (PEs). The Ethiopian officials appreciated the community-driven model and the leadership demonstrated by SHG women. They expressed admiration for the efforts made towards sustainable rural livelihoods and women’s socio-economic empowerment. On Thursday, the delegation visited the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) of Rajeevika in Jaipur, where they were formally welcomed. During the session, District Project Managers presented detailed insights into Rajeevika’s ongoing programmes and innovations. Neha Giri, IAS, State Mission Director, Rajeevika, delivered a comprehensive presentation highlighting various rural development programmes implemented in Rajasthan under the aegis of the Ministry of Rural Development. She elaborated on the convergence between different government schemes and the role of community-based institutions in fostering inclusive development. The meeting was attended by senior officials from participating banks, who apprised the delegation of the credit linkages and financial mechanisms extended to SHGs across the state. Senior bankers from SLBC, SBI, PNB, RGB, BoI, ICICI AND HDFC were present for a detailed discussion related to enhanced financial inclusion. The meeting, chaired by Neha Giri, IAS, State Mission Director, was attended by senior representatives from the high-level Ethiopian delegation and the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM), along with the Project Director (Administration) and State Project Managers from Rajeevika. The discussions during the meeting offered valuable insights into Rajasthan’s model of rural livelihoods, community mobilisation, and women-led enterprise development.

CM Mamata trying to link every suicide incident in Bengal with NRC, SIR: BJP

Kolkata, Oct 30 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Thursday, had accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of trying to link every suicide incident taking place in the state with Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Taking to his official X account, BJP’s Information Technology Cell Chief and the party’s central observer for West Bengal, Amit Malviya, had claimed that after Mamata Banerjee’s “blatant lies” in her attempts to link the suicide of 57-yar-old Pradeep Kar at Panihati in North 24 Parganas district with that of the NRC, the Chief Minister is trying to link the death of 95-year-old Khitish Majumdar’s suicide at Illambazar in Birbhum with the NRC and SIR. In his social media post, BJP leader Malviya had asked why a 95-year-old man, born in 1930 and an Indian by birth, took his own life over the SIR. “Even if, by any logic, he was not an Indian citizen post-Partition and later migrated to India, he was automatically eligible for Indian citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), being a Hindu. The truth is, it is not SIR but Mamata Banerjee’s corrupt and crumbling administration that has blood on its hands,” the BJP leader added. According to the BJP leader, the mystery had deepened further because of the place of suicide of Majumdar, which is Illambazar in Birbhum district. “The man lived in Illambazar, a Trinamool Congress bastion where harassment by local leaders is rampant,” Malviya added. He also hinted towards the possibilities of Trinamool Congress cadres brainwashing Majumdar with fear and misinformation or preventing him from applying for his rightful citizenship under the CAA, considering that the state’s ruling party had earlier declared that the CAA would never be implemented in West Bengal. “If Mamata Banerjee insists on weaving tales to fuel fear and stall SIR, she should at least make them logical. Her current script is nothing but a desperate, hollow hoax — written for electoral dividends and aimed at insulting the intelligence of Bengal and the very soul of democracy itself,” Malviya said. Earlier on Thursday after the information about Majumdar’s suicide surfaced, Chief Minister Banerjee issued a social media post where she claimed that consecutive suicides and suicide attempts in West Bengal out of the fear of SIR and possible NRC during the last few days are examples of the tragic consequences of the BJP’s politics of fear, division, and hate. Malviya had claimed that if the BJP came to power in West Bengal after the 2026 Assembly elections, ensure a fair investigation into all such suicides and bring every miscreant linked to the current ruling party in the state to justice.

Mumbai: Rs 2 crore dues for school contract drove Rohit Arya to plan hostage drama

Mumbai, Oct 30 (IANS) Rohit Arya, the slain man behind the hostage drama at a Mumbai studio, was apparently driven to take the step to recover Rs 2 crore, which he had done under a project for the school education department during the tenure of former Maharashtra Minister Deepak Kesarkar. Arya died of gunshot wounds after a dramatic shootout at RA Studio in Powai, where he held hostage 19 people, including 17 teenage acting auditioners, for two hours starting around 1.45 p.m. on Thursday, police said. He, it seems, was trying to draw the attention of influential government functionaries, including Kesarkar, to get his Rs 2 crore payment released for the work he had carried out in a school project called “Swachhta Monitor” in 2023. A resident of Pune, Arya had earlier tried to raise the issue several times to draw the attention of the authorities towards his pending dues, but without success, said sources. During the hostage drama on Thursday, he released a video message saying, “I am not a terrorist… neither am I seeking money. I wish to talk to some people.” He also explained that he had been pushed to suicide, but rather than taking his own life, he was trying to reach out to the people he wanted to speak to through the “Hostage plan”. The abductor claimed that he was forced to take the step to force certain individuals to speak to him, failing which he threatened to set the studio building and the hostages on fire, the police said. The hostage drama ended with the rescue of 17 children and two others, and Arya succumbed to his gunshot wounds in the hospital. Former state school education minister Kesarkar clarified that his name was unnecessarily being dragged into the controversy. He told reporters, “Rohit Arya had come with a concept called ‘Swachhta Monitor’ and he was given a contract under the ‘Mera School Ek Sunder School Hai’ campaign. However, he indulged in some direct monetary dealings.” “He should have spoken to the department and resolved the matter as he was undertaking government work… as there are certain protocols in such official processes,” said Kesarkar. “Holding people hostage is not a solution, as all of us need to work under the set norms,” said Kesarkar. Arya was an employee of the studio, where he held the 17 children hostage, and he appeared to be mentally unstable, the police said. Deputy Commissioner of Police Dutta Nalawade said the police were forced to storm the studio after entering through a toilet window, as Arya showed no signs of letting off the hostages. The shootout was triggered by Arya, who opened fire at the policemen using his air gun, the police said. Arya, who died during treatment at the hospital, was carrying an air gun, chemicals and a lighter, which he threatened to use to set the building on fire in case his demand for speaking to Kesarkar and other people was not fulfilled. The Mumbai Police were alerted about the illegal confinement drama after some of the hostages, who attend acting classes on the first floor, managed to wave at passersby and seek help. The 30-minute operation to end the hostage drama caused panic in the Powai area as the police threw a security ring around the studio and asked people to vacate the area. A Quick Reaction Team (QRT) was also rushed to the spot, fearing a terror angle. The studio where the drama unfolded is popular for acting classes, and Arya plotted the “hostage episode” after about 100 children had come to give an audition in the morning, the police said.

Ford recalls 227K MORE vehicles in record-breaking year of safety actions for automaker

Ford Motor Co. is recalling about 227,000 vehicles in the United States over multiple safety defects — its latest such action in a record-shattering year that has seen the automaker issue more than 120 recalls. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the new recall covers 163,256 Bronco Sport SUVs for front seats that may have loose bolts, 56,841 Lincoln and Explorer models for windshields with visible air bubbles, and 6,909 Econoline vans with inoperative defrosting or defogging systems. Dealers will replace or repair the affected parts at no cost to owners, according to NHTSA. The announcement came just a day after Ford recalled nearly 175,000 vehicles for moonroof wind deflectors that could detach while driving, creating a road hazard. That recall included Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs, along with certain F-series pickup trucks, according to filings with NHTSA. Together, the recalls continue a streak of safety issues that have made Ford the most frequently recalled automaker in the US this year, according to federal data and company filings. Earlier this month, Ford recalled more than 1.4 million vehicles across multiple model years — including Explorer, Taurus, C-Max, Escape, Flex, Fusion, Fiesta, Mustang, Lincoln MKZ and MKT — to replace faulty rearview cameras that may display distorted, intermittent or blank images. NHTSA warned that the glitch increased the risk of a crash by limiting visibility when backing up. Ford said at the time that dealers would inspect and replace the rearview cameras free of charge. The recall followed a separate September notice covering 1.9 million vehicles worldwide for a similar camera issue linked to at least 18 accidents, though no injuries were reported. The company attributed that defect to an unauthorized change by a supplier to the printed circuit board that reduced contact force and led to corrosion — ultimately causing the backup cameras to fail. Auto analysts say the unprecedented volume underscores Ford’s struggle to manage increasingly complex vehicles laden with software and electronic components. Brian Moody, executive editor at Autotrader, told Fox Business that while most modern recalls are voluntary, the sheer number from Ford is “cause for concern.” “As increasingly complex vehicles become increasingly normal, Ford has stumbled with regard to quality,” Moody said. The Post has sought comment from Ford. The latest incidents add to a long list of safety problems that have dogged Ford throughout 2025. On Oct. 17, the company recalled nearly 625,000 vehicles for faulty seatbelt anchor cables and camera display issues affecting 2015–2017 Mustang models and 2020–2022 Super Duty trucks. In August, Ford pulled back 312,000 trucks and SUVs for an electronic brake booster defect that could cause partial loss of brake assist. Affected models included the 2025 Ford F-150, Expedition, Bronco, Ranger and Lincoln Navigator. Ford has repeatedly defended its approach, saying the volume of recalls reflects a more aggressive internal safety strategy rather than declining quality. “The number of vehicles recalled reflects our intensive strategy to quickly find and fix hardware and software issues and go the extra mile to help protect customers,” the company told Fox Business in an earlier statement. Ford said it has more than doubled its team of safety and technical experts in the past two years, describing the overhaul as part of a long-term quality improvement plan. “We can and do find issues that exist on earlier model years, including ones that have not even been reported,” the company said. “We will not compromise our responsibility to all our customers, not just those buying new vehicles.” NHTSA fined Ford $165 million last year for failing to issue timely recalls related to defective rearview cameras — the second-largest civil penalty in the agency’s history.

Rachel Uchitel, Former Partner of Tiger Woods, Hosts Bachelorette Celebration in Nashville

Rachel Uchitel is gearing up to tie the knot for the third time. The 50-year-old podcaster, who gained notoriety in 2009 as Tiger Woods’ mistress, has discovered her “happily ever after” with Dan Donovan, a prominent business figure from Palm Beach. “I feel incredibly fortunate. He’s an amazing man,” Uchitel shared with the Daily Mail. “Not only is he wonderful and kind, but he’s also a successful individual.” She added, “He’s an alpha male without the narcissism or arrogance. He possesses so many admirable traits.” Uchitel further described Donovan as the CEO and founder of four different companies, remarking, “Even though I’m an alpha female, there’s nothing quite like having an alpha male who cares for you.” Reflecting on her past, the host of Miss Understood with Rachel Uchitel confessed she nearly abandoned her search for “the one” after experiencing numerous ups and downs in her love life, including the heartbreaking loss of her first fiancé during the 9/11 attacks. ‘I didn’t think it would happen for me, especially over 40 and with a child, but the lesson in all of this is that everything happens when it’s supposed to happen,’ she said. The couple met on a dating app but they only spoke on the phone at first and then enjoyed a platonic friendship before anything romantic happened. ‘I was 49 and I had just been through years of it not working and dating the wrong person, so I had kind of given up on it,’ Uchitel confessed. ‘We became friends and he got to know my daughter really well. He has a boat, so he’d just take my daughter’s friends and I and some of my friends out every weekend and we were just good buddies,’ she continued. ‘And then I realized with time that I really adored him as a person and I finally got to the point where I was like, “Oh my god, I don’t want to be without this person!” So he asked me out on a date and we’ve been dating ever since.’ Donovan popped the question at the Rosewood Miramar in Santa Barbara in front of a picturesque sunset. Uchitel’s daughter Wyatt, who she shares with first husband Matt Hahn, even helped Donovan pick out her 10.5 carat diamond engagement ring. ‘I love the ring so much. I sleep with it and I never take it off. I just love it,’ she gushed. Uchitel celebrated the engagement over the weekend with a fun-filled Bachelorette party in Nashville hosted by her maid of honor Diana Khabbaz and friend Paige Davis. The group stayed at the five-star 1 Hotel and dined at the popular Twelve Thirty Club, where they were treated to tunes by Instagram-famous DJ Eric Rhodes, who is known for mashing up country tunes with hip-hop classics. Uchitel said that choosing Nashville for the party was inspired by her and her fiancé’s shared love of country music. The guests were all treated to custom tote bags from House of Henry filled with various goodies, including hand-beaded necklaces from Hannah B. Jewelry, luxury belt buckles from Beth’s Buckles, rhinestone covered champagne bottles from Le Kool and custom tumblers from Sahuaro Lane. The blushing bride wore a cowgirl outfit from Kiki de Montparnasse and white cowgirl boots from Dingo 1969, along with a customized cowgirl hat with ‘Mrs. D’ on the front from Sequin Souls. After being dragged through the media for years over her affair with Woods, Uchitel said that she finally feels like she’s gained her credibility back through the success of her popular podcast, Miss Understood. The podcast, which has topped the entertainment charts multiple times since its 2023 launch, sees the former news producer flexing her journalism skills by interviewing an array of misunderstood figures who have used her show to set the record straight. ‘I really have the expertise in knowing what that’s like to feel like you’ve been misunderstood, so I love that my credibility is back,’ she shared. ‘Not only am I an expert in the field that I’m talking about, but I’m doing really well as a podcaster. I feel very proud of the work that we do.’ Uchitel said that finding success on her own and reclaiming her narrative helped put her in the right frame of mind to find love again. ‘I feel very lucky that I found [Dan]. And the interesting thing is, because we first found each other four years ago, thank God we didn’t date back then,’ she reflected. ‘Because the timing wouldn’t have been right. I wasn’t in the space in my life that I am now. I was struggling to figure out my purpose in life, and now here I am with a top performing podcast and doing all these things where I feel very secure in my own skin. ‘I didn’t back then and I would’ve been looking for someone to save me and that was never the right mindset to be in to find your ever after.’ Uchitel was previously engaged to James Andrew O’Grady, who tragically died during the September 11 terrorist attacks. Before that engagement, she was married to Wall Street trader Steven Ehrenkranz for four months in 2004. Her second marriage was with former football player Hahn and it lasted three years. The couple divorced in 2014 and they are now co-parenting their daughter, Wyatt Lily, amicably. She notoriously had an affair with Woods in 2009 and actor David Boreanaz in 2010. After her affair with Woods was exposed, the professional golfer admitted to cheating on his wife with more than 120 different women. While Uchitel has now found her happy ending at last, Woods has also found love with Vanessa Trump. Trump was famously married to Donald Trump’s son, Don Jr., from 2005 to 2018. They shared two children together – daughter Kai Madison Trump, 17, and son Donald Trump III, 16.

Bernie Ecclestone’s wife makes rare comment about marrying F1 supremo who is 46 years older

Bernie Ecclestone's wife has revealed how the couple navigate parenting their five-year-old son, despite their 46-year age difference. The former Formula One boss, who is now 95, and his 49-year-old wife currently live in the tranquil Swiss village of Gstaad. The pair welcomed their son into the world in 2020 when Ecclestone was 89, marking a new chapter in their lives after tying the knot eight years prior . Now, the family splits their time between the stunning Swiss Alps and Fabiana's homeland, Brazil. Flosi and Ecclestone have raised their son to be trilingual, with Ace speaking Portuguese thanks to his mother, English like his father and Swiss German, due to attending the International Preschool in Gstaad. In a recent chat about their parenthood with Bild , Fabiana was asked how they make it work with a 95-year-old dad and 49-year-old mum. She said: "It's working very well. Bernie and I are a team and we're raising Ace as a team. If I'm ever a little impatient, Bernie explains to him in his usual calm and quiet way that he can only watch half an hour of TV after he's done his homework." She went on to add: "It's not easy for us to explain to Ace that online, tablet, and YouTube are only available on Tuesdays, while his classmates are allowed to do so every day. I think it's a good idea for him to get his first mobile phone at 12 or 14." Ecclestone, formerly the most influential figure in motorsport, is known for transforming F1 into a multi-billion-pound empire. He chimed in by saying about his fourth child: "Ace has accepted this and doesn't complain. He's a bright, intelligent, wonderful boy. I already see no limits to what he'll be capable of." Fabiana continued: "He was already skiing at the age of two. Many children that age don't like this or that food – Ace likes everything. His favourite is sushi." The former motorsport mogul previously opened up about his relationship with Ace. "I hope that he doesn't look at me as the old man," he told The Telegraph . "I try to be the way he would want me to be. He’s a bright little boy, so he needs to be treated as such." There is an enormous age gap between Ecclestone's eldest child, Deborah, 70, and Ace, who has only recently begun attending school. Speaking to Bild before his own birthday celebrations on Tuesday, Ecclestone said: "My daughters wanted a big party. I'd rather fly with Fabi and Ace to my ranch in Brazil." He revealed that Deborah visited him in Gstaad before his birthday. Ecclestone also sold off a yacht named after his daughters, Petra and Tamara, last week following claims from his wife Fabiana that the family barely used it . The vessel is reported to have been used just eight days per year, leading to the sale. A second, smaller yacht owned by the Formula 1 supremo, currently moored in Ibiza, unlike "Petara", which remains in Croatia, is also for sale.

Obesity, diabetes treatments fuel Eli Lilly growth and spark bidding war

The market for obesity and diabetes treatments remains scorching hot, funneling billions in sales to Eli Lilly and fueling a bidding war over another drugmaker. Lilly said Thursday that its top-selling drugs, Mounjaro and Zepbound, brought in more than $10 billion combined during the recently completed third quarter. That made up over half of the drugmaker’s $17.6 billion in total sales. Separately, Danish drugmaker Novo Nordisk announced plans to buy Metsera Inc. in a deal that could be worth up to $9 billion. That came more than a month after U.S. drugmaker Pfizer Inc. made a nearly $5 billion bid for Metsera, which has no drugs on the market but is developing several potential oral and injectable treatments. Popular treatments labeled GLP-1 receptor agonists are fueling the soaring sales and deal interest. They work by mimicking hormones in the gut and the brain to regulate appetite and feelings of fullness. But they don’t work for everyone and can produce side effects that include nausea and stomach pain. Supplies of the drugs have improved this year, and some insurance coverage is growing. That helps improve access to drugs that can cost around $500 a month without coverage. That can put them out of reach for many patients. U.S. sales of Lilly’s weight-loss treatment Zepbound nearly tripled to $3.57 billion in the third quarter. Meanwhile, revenue from the diabetes drug Mounjaro, which has been on the market longer, doubled to $6.52 billion thanks to growth outside the U.S. Combined, the drugs have brought in nearly $25 billion in sales so far this year for Indianapolis-based Lilly. That surpasses the entire company’s revenue total from 2020. The drugs helped Eli Lilly and Co. record a $5.58 billion profit in the third quarter and deliver a better performance than Wall Street expected. Novo Nordisk said it will pay $56.50 in cash for each Metsera share and could pay an extra $21.25 if the company meets some drug development milestones. The drugmaker already has the obesity and diabetes treatments Wegovy and Ozempic on the market. That combined total of $77.75 more than doubles the closing price of Metsera shares on Sept. 19, the last trading day before Pfizer made its offer. Pfizer Inc. is known for the COVID-19 vaccine Comirnaty and the treatment Paxlovid, among other drugs. But the New York drugmaker decided to take another stab at obesity treatments months after ending development of its own drug.

Kaye Adams 'unable to sleep' after 'sh***iest weeks ever' amid BBC bullying allegations

Kaye Adams has opened up about one of the "most distressing" periods of her career. Loose Women star Kaye has she is "unable to sleep" after having the "sh***iest weeks ever" amid her BBC bullying probe. The broadcaster was removed from her position at BBC Scotland earlier in the month after junior staff members accused her of bullying. The 62-year-old allegedly shouted at other colleagues and this was reported under the broadcaster's Call It Out scheme. Kaye has now said that the last few weeks have been the "most distressing" of her "professional life". The star has said that she hasn't been dealing with the situation too well but hopes it will get sorted. She said that she didn't see the incident happening but is trying to get through it. In the latest episode of How To Be 60 , the podcast she co-hosts with Karen MacKenzie who is currently undergoing chemotherapy, Kaye spoke about how she was doing. She said: "I have to warn you if you're here for the laughs you might be disappointed because we have both had the s****iest weeks ever, albeit for very different reasons." Kaye when then asked how she was feeling and she sarcastically said: "Oh, I'm great!" She then went on to speak about how she has been getting up later in the morning than usual, meaning that her partner Ian Campbell's alarm now goes off before her's. She added: "I tell you what I'm finding hard is not sleeping cos I love my sleep and I'm not sleeping so well. I tell you something – this is gallows humour – because I'm not getting up at 6am like I used to, it's Ian's alarm that goes off first. "I don't usually hear Ian's alarm because I am up and out and away. Do you know what Ian's alarm is? Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life!," she said. Kaye has denied that any incident ever happened at BBC Scotland. Kaye has been replaced on air by Connie McLaughlin while investigations are ongoing. The veteran broadcaster, who earns around £155,000 a year for her three-hour phone-in show, said she has been inundated with messages of support since being suspended. The Daily Mail reported that a senior BBC Scotland figure said: "Interviews have been taking place with those working on the show and those who have previously worked with her. "It’s not just about one incident; they are looking back over the years. A number of people have spoken about experiences they’ve had with Kaye but the investigation is still ongoing." It is still unknown when the investigation will come to an end or when Kaye will return to her usual slot on the radio. When the incident was first raised, a BBC Scotland spokesperson said: "We would not comment on any individual case. If any complaints or concerns are raised, we have robust internal processes in place to manage these." Like this story?
