Oliver Glasner hails set-piece preparation as Crystal Palace see off Brentford

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner believed getting on top of the “set-play battle” was key to his side earning victory against Brentford. The Eagles had not won in their three previous games in the Premier League but Jean-Philippe Mateta’s eighth goal of the season set them on their way against the Bees, whose captain Nathan Collins put into his own net to give them breathing room. It was then pretty comfortable for Palace as they saw off their fellow Carabao Cup quarter-finalists to rise to seventh in the table. Glasner said: “We didn’t have a lot of time to train because we played Wednesday evening at Liverpool, coming home at three in the morning. “Thursday was just recovery and yesterday we trained 25 minutes on the pitch then 15 minutes just defending throw-ins and attacking throw-ins because we knew it would be a topic today. “Credit to my assistants who prepared all the clips and set up how we defended it, and also in attack so we could score from it. “We spoke about how it could be a set-play battle and at the end I think we won the set-play battle because it’s why we could win the game, a very good, important win today. “We use the minutes we are on the pitch more and more for set-plays, we’re always training it and I think it would be really stupid from us if we don’t train it.” Palace were in front after 30 minutes when Daichi Kamada’s free-kick was nodded across by Jefferson Lerma and Mateta’s header was lofted perfectly into the top corner. The Eagles were then gifted a second goal in the 52nd minute when Lerma’s long throw glanced off Collins’ head and drifted into his own net. Brentford boss Keith Andrews said: “I thought it was a tight game, clearly a game where set-pieces were very, very prevalent in how the result went. “In terms of our performance, did we reach the heights of recent weeks individually, collectively? No. But having said that, I felt like there wasn’t a lot in the game. “Going into this game, you know Crystal Palace are going to be – last season was the same – pretty effective from set-pieces. “You’ve got to earn the right against them in general play, you’ve got to earn the right at set-pieces, and clearly the first goal for us wasn’t one we’ll be happy with. “[Losing] first contact, second contact, you can’t quite allow that against a team of that physical nature. “No blame at all attached to Nathan [for the own goal]. Everything he’s done from the second I’ve been in the building as a set-piece coach and the head coach has been magnificent.”

Will Old Firm raise bar of mayhem another notch at Hampden?

Will Old Firm raise bar of mayhem another notch at Hampden?

And now the Glasgow giants are back in each other's face again. This could get grisly, but let's hope there's a modicum of football played at Hampden. Old Firm games of recent vintage have thrown up some belters - Rangers beating Celtic 3-2 at Celtic Park in March, Celtic beating Rangers on penalties at Hampden in December after drawing 3-3. That 0-0 at Ibrox was a blight. The only memorable thing about it was how utterly forgettable it was. Rangers ran around like mad dogs in a meathouse and got a draw having just conceded six to Brugge. Celtic passed backwards, hesitant and unthreatening having just been knocked out of the Champions League by Kairat Almaty. It was the third time in four matches where they failed to score. The game produced a combined xG of 0.32. We can't be certain - stats vary - but there's a serious chance that this is the lowest xG ever recorded for a game in Britain since records began. It certainly felt like one of the most stultifyingly dull encounters in the modern history of the fixture. This game remains a curiosity. Celtic lorded it over Rangers in the league table last season, beating them by 17 points, outscoring over the course of the Premiership campaign by 112 goals to 80, out-defending them by conceding 26 goals to 41, with a goal difference of plus-86 for Celtic and plus-39 for Rangers. And yet, in Old Firm games, none of this dominance was reflected. In the four games in the league, there was a 1-1 draw, a 3-2 Rangers win at Celtic Park, a 3-0 Rangers win at Ibrox and a 3-0 Celtic win at Celtic Park. The League Cup final ended 3-3 after extra time, Celtic winning it in a penalty shootout. So, including the 0-0 earlier this season, in the last six meetings - two victories for Rangers, two victories for Celtic (counting the shootout) and two draws. In goals scored, Rangers shaded the six games 10-9. The concept of form going out of the window in derby matches is a bit of a cliche, but sometimes cliches can be true. Nothing else explains why Celtic, so much better than Rangers last season, found it so fiendishly difficult to get the better of them. So much has changed at these clubs in recent weeks, but some things never change. The emotion, the bonkerdom, the ridiculous high of winning this game and the awful low of losing. Both clubs have set an impressively high bar for mayhem this season. Don't be surprised if that bar goes higher still with so much on the line at Hampden.

‘You’re going to die like a yellow rat!’: The moment war hero Weary Dunlop snapped

That constant retching you can hear, in tandem with the stench? “Patients vomit in gushing fashion into bamboo containers and indeed often all over the place. The orderlies have made little bed pans out of cut-down tins placed in little wooden boxes but, of course, nothing can deal entirely with the gushing faecal contamination. With these intolerable cramps and abdominal pains and delirium there can be no silence and the air is full of groans, cries for relief and curses in weak, husky voices.” Men who he had seen walking around just yesterday, before contracting the cholera, now look “dreadfully emaciated and unrecognisable”. The hours crawl by; the dead are carried out. One ... two ... three … four ... And this bloke? Can he be kept alive, as crook as he is with cholera? He’d been brought in only hours before apologising to the stretcher-bearers for the trouble he was putting them to. He is Able Seaman Bob Costin, and he is just 22, a young sailor who had survived the sinking of Perth, and everything since, whose only desire is to get back to Australia. For, you must understand, Colonel Dunlop, sir. He and his bride in white had been so happy on their wedding day, only for him to be rounded up by the navy straight after the ceremony, and obliged to return to Perth, without even consummating the marriage. And the very last letter concerning his wife, Maud – just before Perth had been sunk – had been from her father saying that Maudie had been rushed to hospital for emergency surgery, and it was going to be touch and go whether she’d even live. Right now, he does not know if he is a husband or a widower. And now, this? He is pouring his life out from every orifice, getting weaker by the hour. As the night wears on, Weary does everything he can to help him, even as Costin fades before his eyes. You will get through this, young man, get back to her – for she is surely still alive – and live your life together. But you have to fight, have to hold on! But nothing helps as, finally, the young Melburnian has just had enough. And Maudie is probably dead anyway. He might as well join her.

Amy Slaton Chose 'Extraordinary Friend' Ollisha Davis to Be Maid of Honor Instead of Sister Tammy Slaton (Exclusive)

TLC star Amy Slaton didn't choose her sister, Tammy Slaton, to be her maid of honor. Amy, 38, married Brian Lovvorn in an "old-timey" and "Victorian" wedding at Talbott Tavern, a supposedly haunted historic restaurant and inn in Bardstown, Ky., on Halloween, one year after getting engaged inside the padded room of a haunted house. Standing by the bride's side as her maid of honor was her "extraordinary friend" Ollisha Davis. Speaking to PEOPLE ahead of her intimate ceremony, the 1000-Lb. Sisters star admitted that determining who would be in her wedding party was difficult. "I deeply cherished the journey of wedding planning, embracing the art and location hunting, but selecting bridesmaids and groomsmen proved to be a profound challenge," Amy said. "Yet I intuitively knew that my extraordinary friend Ollisha (Lee Lee) would graciously accept the esteemed honor of being my maid of honor, even before I extended the heartfelt invitation." Davis, whose Instagram and TikTok accounts are private, is a public transportation driver and dispatcher based on her bio. The "loving mother and G-mama" has been shouted out on Amy and her siblings' various social media platforms multiple times. In June on Instagram, Amy dedicated one of her art pieces to her friend, writing "D is for my best friend Ollisha Davis" to describe a blue painting with a white D on it. Back in June 2024, Amy's older sister, Amanda Halterman, shared a sweet selfie with Davis on TikTok, and tagged her and Amy before captioning the post, "Thanks for always being there. Supporting us we love you girl! Sunday diner was fire." In a group photo with Amy and Davis posted that same month and year on TikTok, Halterman wrote, "So thankful for friends that have become family!!" The Halloween wedding was everything Amy had ever hoped for. "My wedding is a dream finally coming true," she told PEOPLE. "I’m getting my happily ever after!" When Amy spoke to PEOPLE in May after announcing her engagement, she shared that Tammy, 39, was apprehensive about the news because Lovvorn proposed after only five months of dating. "She really felt like we were rushing it," Amy said at the time. Tammy was the maid of honor at Amy's 2019 wedding to her ex-husband Michael Halterman. The former couple split in 2023 and share sons Gage Deon, 4, and Glenn Allen, 3. When Tammy asked Amy to be her maid of honor and help with wedding planning for her marriage to Caleb Willingham — whose death was announced on July 1, 2023 — Amy initially hesitated, citing "a lot going on" with her young children, but she eventually agreed to be in her bridal party and help with planning, as documented on their hit TLC show. Amy's spooky ceremony was officiated by her friend, Billy, who also officiated Tammy and Willingham's wedding in 2022 at Windsor Lane Rehabilitation Center in Gibsonburg, Ohio.

New York election results: Polymarket has already projected the winner - here's who he is

With just four days left before New York City voters head to the polls, Zohran Mamdani appears to be pulling ahead in the race for mayor. A series of new polls show him leading Andrew Cuomo by double digits, while Curtis Sliwa trails in third place. How Do the Latest Polls Look for the NYC Mayoral Race? With Election Day now just four days away, the race between Zohran Mamdani, Andrew Cuomo, and Curtis Sliwa is entering its final stretch and Mamdani appears to have a commanding lead. Two recent polls released this week show Mamdani leading Cuomo by 16 and 25 percentage points, respectively. According to the Emerson College Polling/PIX11/The Hill survey conducted between October 25–27, Mamdani holds 50% support, compared to 25% for Cuomo and 21% for Sliwa, while 4% remain undecided. The Marist Poll, conducted from October 24–28, shows a similar trend with Mamdani at 48%, Cuomo at 32%, and Sliwa at 16%, leaving 3% undecided, as per a report by Fox5NY. The Quinnipiac University poll released on October 29 also shows Mamdani ahead with 46%, Cuomo at 33%, and Sliwa at 15%, while 3% were undecided and 2% declined to respond. Despite the strong polling numbers, Mamdani remains cautious about early predictions. “Polls give us a snapshot in time,” Mamdani said. “It's great when there's a good one. It's, you know, we look past it when there's a bad one. But really, all they are is a prediction. It's up to us to actually win this race.” Cuomo, however, dismissed the findings, saying, “I think the polls have no idea what they're talking about because they have never seen this kind of turnout before," as per a report by Fox5NY. Sliwa shared similar skepticism, stating, “I don't believe any of the polls. I believe the people because I'm in the streets, I'm in the subways.” What do the other polls indicate? The Manhattan Institute survey, conducted between October 22–26, found Mamdani leading Cuomo by 15 points, with Sliwa in third at 19% and 8% undecided. The Suffolk University poll showed Mamdani’s advantage narrowing slightly to 10 points, with him at 44% and Cuomo at 34%. A Victory Insights poll recorded an 18-point lead for Mamdani, while Patriot Polling placed the gap at 11 points. The Gotham Polling and City AARP report suggested that if Sliwa exited the race, 44.6% of New Yorkers would vote for Mamdani compared to 40.7% for Cuomo, within the 4-point margin of error, as per a report by Fox5NY. Finally, a Fox News poll found Mamdani with a 24-point lead among registered voters, securing 52% support from likely voters, while Cuomo and Sliwa trailed at 28% and 13%, respectively. How many have voted so far? Early voting is already underway, with turnout data from the NYC Board of Elections after day six showing: Manhattan: 118,920 voters Bronx: 32,655 voters Brooklyn: 126,055 voters Queens: 91,371 voters Staten Island: 29,476 voters Early voting continues through Sunday, November 2, before Election Day on Tuesday, November 4. Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m, as per a report by Fox5NY. As New Yorkers prepare to cast their ballots, Mamdani’s campaign is riding a wave of momentum, but both Cuomo and Sliwa insist that the final outcome will come down to turnout on Election Day.FAQsWho is leading the New York City mayoral race?Zohran Mamdani leads Andrew Cuomo in multiple polls, with margins ranging from 10 to 25 percentage points. When is Election Day in New York City?Election Day is Tuesday, November 4, with polls open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now! Australian Cruise Cancelled After 80-Year-Old Woman Who ‘Failed to Board’ Was Found Dead on Remote Pacific Island

The remainder of an Australian cruise has been cancelled after the death of an 80-year-old passenger. Suzanne Rees was found dead on Lizard Island in the Great Barrier Reef, off Queensland, on Sunday, Oct. 26, having been reported missing just before midnight the day before. She had been hiking the Cook’s Look peak on the remote island when she allegedly stopped to rest and became separated from the group, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported. The Coral Adventurer ship left without her when she “failed to board." It is believed that Rees may have died after falling down a cliff, according to news.com.au. Nearly a week after the incident, the CEO of Coral Expeditions, Mark Fifield, confirmed that the remainder of the voyage would be cancelled. He told the BBC that passengers and crew aboard the ship were told on Wednesday, Oct. 29, that the remainder of their cruise would not go ahead. "Following the tragic passing of Suzanne Rees and previous mechanical issues, the decision had been made to cancel the remainder of the voyage," said Fifield, per the BBC. He said passengers were told they would receive a full refund and that Coral Expeditions would coordinate their return flights. Fifield also shared in an Oct. 30 statement that the company has offered “heartfelt condolences to the Rees family and remain deeply sorry that this has occurred.” “The circumstances of her tragic death are the subject of official investigations. We are fully cooperating with those investigations to determine the facts,” the CEO continued, per news.com.au. “For this reason, it would be inappropriate to comment further on the investigations while they are underway. We continue to provide our full support to the Rees family through this difficult time.” Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. Rees’ daughter Katherine expressed being "shocked and saddened” that the ship departed “without my mum," according to the BBC. “From the little we have been told, it seems that there was a failure of care and common sense,” she added. Katherine went on to claim that, after her mom “fell ill” while climbing Cook's Look on a hot day, “she was asked to head down, unescorted.” She continued, “Then the ship left, apparently without doing a passenger count.”

Revanth Reddy repeats threat to stop welfare schemes if Jubilee Hills voters back BRS

Hyderabad: Undeterred by the controversy stirred by his threat to stop welfare schemes if the people of Jubilee Hills voted for the BRS, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday said that if the poor wanted ration cards, 200 units of free power, fine rice, free bus travel scheme for women and other schemes, they would have to support the Congress and voter for Naveen Yadav. This condition comes from promises that were made when the Congress approached voters before the Assembly elections in 2023, with the Chief Minister now saying that those would be kept only if they voted for his party in Jubilee Hills as well. He also claimed that development works worth Rs 300 crore were taken up in Jubilee Hills, and if this had to become Rs 3,000 crore, Naveen Yadav would have to be elected. Interestingly, in a bid to attack former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, Revanth Reddy once again claimed that the credit for Hyderabad’s development belonged to Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu and former Chief Minister YS Rajashekhara Reddy. “All the pharma and IT companies that came up in Hyderabad are because of Chandrababu Naidu and YS Rajashekhara Reddy. Where is the development done by KCR in Hyderabad?” he asked, next turning his abusive rhetoric towards Union Minister G Kishan Reddy. Pointing out that Kishan Reddy had questioned the induction of former cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin into the Cabinet and wrote to the Governor, he switched to purely intemperate language. “Ministry Kishan Reddy ka baap ka jagir hai kya? Allah miya gave me one opportunity, tere baap ka jagir kuch gaya kya?” he asked. He also said this election was not about Naveen Yadav or Maganti Sunitha. “It is between Revanth Reddy and Rahul Gandhi and Narendra Modi and KCR,” he said, also claiming that it was he who constructed the Aramgarh flyover and sanctioned Metro Rail to the old city.

Xi bats for global AI body to trump US

APChinese President Xi Jinping Chinese President Xi Jinping took centrestage at a meeting of APEC leaders on Saturday to push a proposal for a global body to govern artificial intelligence and position China as an alternative to the United States on trade cooperation. The comments were the first by the Chinese leader on an initiative Beijing unveiled this year, while the United States has rejected efforts to regulate AI in international bodies. Xi said a World Artifical Intelligence Cooperation Organization could set governance rules and boost cooperation, making AI a "public good for the international community".In remarks published by the official news agency Xinhua, Xi added, "Artificial intelligence is of great significance for future development and should be made for the benefit of people in all countries and regions." Chinese officials have said the organisation could be based in the commercial hub of Shanghai. US President Donald Trump did not attend the APEC leaders' summit in the South Korean city of Gyeongju, flying back to Washington directly after a meeting with Xi.The two leaders' talks yielded a one-year deal to partially roll back trade and technology controls that had spiked tension between the world's two biggest economies. In Trump's absence, analysts had expected Xi to use the APEC meeting to promote China as champion for its own brand of multilateral cooperation on trade and economic development. While advanced chips made by California-based Nvidia are central to the AI boom, China-based developer DeepSeek has rolled out lower-cost models taken up by Beijing in a push for what it calls "algorithmic sovereignty".Live EventsXi also urged APEC to promote the "free circulation" of green technologies, a cluster of industries from batteries to solar panels that China dominates. APEC members approved a joint declaration and pacts on AI and the challenge of ageing populations at the meeting. China will host the 2026 APEC summit in Shenzhen, a major hub for manufacturing, from robotics to electric car production. Xi said the city of nearly 18 million had been a fishing village until it boomed as one of China's first special economic zones in the 1980s.Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now! Eight women and a child killed in stampede at Andhra temple

Kasibugga (Andhra Pradesh): At least nine people - eight women and a boy - were killed and many others injured at a stampede which occurred at Venkateswara Swamy temple here in Srikakulam district on Saturday.Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha said the temple, a private one and not under the Endowments Department, usually witnesses a turnout of 1,500 to 2,000 devotees here every Saturday. The tragedy was worsened by the Ekadasi observance coinciding with 'Karthika Masam', drawing large crowds.According to the minister, the temple is located at an elevation on the first floor, and when the devotees were climbing, the railing broke, resulting in the people standing at a corner falling on one another.Live EventsOne of the survivors from Dharmapuram village near Ichchapuram, said the approach to the temple is narrow, with only a single entry and exit point, which led to a buildup of devotees on both sides and resulted in chaos. At least seven of the dead are in the age group of 35-40.Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressing grief over the incident said full-fledged inquiry will be done on the incident.Addressing a gathering in Sri Sathya Sai district, Naidu blamed the organisers for not informing the police in advance, due to which adequate security measures could not be arranged.Srikakulam district superintendent of police (SP) KV Maheshwara Reddy said it is mandatory for temples (or religious institutions) to take permission from police when they are organising events, irrespective of the strength of the turnout."It is definitely mandatory under the Public Safety Act. They can ask for any number of people. It is not that only 200 or 2,000 people. Even if 200 people come, they can inform us and we will assess the situation, based on that we will provide the bandobust," Reddy told PTI.Incidentally, the police provided security to other temples in the North Andhra district today, but the SP said the owner of this particular temple, Mukunda Panda, failed to inform them.According to Reddy, Panda built the temple without the requisite permissions and opened it.(With PTI inputs)Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now! Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway cash pile hits record $381.7 billion — the biggest corporate war chest in U.S. history sparks investor debate on what’s next

ReutersWarren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway now holds $381.7 billion in cash and Treasuries, the largest in its history, raising questions about how and when Buffett will spend it. Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway cash pile just hit a record-breaking $381.7 billion, the biggest in U.S. corporate history. It’s a mountain of money so large it rivals the GDP of Denmark. Investors are asking one question — what will Buffett do next? The latest Berkshire filing shows a cash surge of nearly $30 billion in the last quarter, up from around $350 billion earlier this year. About $192 billion is parked in U.S. Treasury bills, with yields above 5.4%, giving Buffett a safe annual income of nearly $20 billion just from interest. The rest sits in bank deposits and short-term investments, giving Berkshire one of the strongest liquidity positions ever seen. Berkshire has been quietly selling more stocks than buying. In Q3 2025, the company sold about $14 billion more in equities than it purchased, signaling caution in overheated markets. The S&P 500’s forward P/E ratio stands above 22, far higher than its long-term average of 15. That valuation gap, according to analysts, explains Buffett’s patience. He’s sitting out the rally, waiting for opportunities that meet his strict value thresholds. The last time Buffett built such a huge war chest was before the 2008 financial crisis. Back then, Berkshire stepped in to make legendary crisis-era investments in Goldman Sachs and General Electric. Investors wonder if history might rhyme again. With over $380 billion in dry powder, Berkshire could theoretically buy entire companies like FedEx, GM, and Boeing combined — and still have money left over. Buffett, now 95, remains consistent in philosophy: hold cash when markets are expensive, strike only when value appears. He’s resisted calls to issue dividends, preferring optionality. Berkshire’s future may depend on Greg Abel, his designated successor, who could face pressure to deploy the pile more aggressively. But for now, Buffett’s restraint speaks louder than action.Live Events The record Berkshire Hathaway cash pile isn’t just a statistic — it’s a signal. It reflects fear, discipline, and readiness. In a world chasing returns, Buffett is still waiting for the market to blink first.Berkshire Hathaway's record cash pile stuns Wall Street Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway has hit a historic milestone. The company’s cash and short-term Treasury holdings surged to $381.7 billion, the highest in its history. The figure, reported in the latest quarterly filing, reflects Buffett’s growing caution as stock valuations stay high and deal opportunities remain limited. Analysts say this level of liquidity is unprecedented. It surpasses the GDP of several nations and is nearly twice Apple’s cash balance. Berkshire’s cash pile stood at around $350 billion in mid-2025, meaning an increase of over $30 billion in just one quarter. Buffett stays cautious as markets test new highs Despite U.S. markets trading near record levels, Buffett has avoided major acquisitions. Instead, Berkshire has been a net seller of equities in recent quarters, trimming positions across financials and energy. The company sold roughly $14 billion more in stocks than it bought during Q3 2025, according to SEC filings. In his previous shareholder letters, Buffett warned about “overstretched valuations” and the lack of what he calls “elephants” — large companies available at fair prices. With the S&P 500’s forward P/E ratio above 22, Buffett appears content waiting for better deals, keeping Berkshire’s firepower ready. What could Buffett do with $381 billion in cash? Analysts and investors are split. Some expect large-scale acquisitions once valuations ease. Others see potential for share buybacks or a rare special dividend. However, Buffett has resisted paying dividends, famously saying that every dollar retained must earn more than one paid out. If Berkshire does deploy the money, it could transform entire sectors. At current valuations, the company could theoretically buy FedEx, General Motors, and American Express combined, with cash left over. Yet Buffett’s patience — and his focus on long-term value — makes sudden spending unlikely. Cash earns more in Treasuries than in stocks right now Buffett’s caution also reflects the math of current yields. Short-term U.S. Treasury bills now yield around 5.4%, giving Berkshire an easy, risk-free return. That means the $381.7 billion pile likely earns over $20 billion annually in interest income, according to Bloomberg estimates. This shift has made Berkshire one of the biggest private holders of U.S. government debt. It also underscores Buffett’s strategic restraint — preferring safety and liquidity until the next market correction creates real value opportunities. Will Greg Abel spend differently? At 95, Buffett is preparing to hand over leadership to Greg Abel, his longtime deputy. Investors are watching whether Abel will deploy cash more aggressively than his mentor. For now, Berkshire’s philosophy remains unchanged — patience first, profits later. As markets near their peaks and global growth slows, Buffett’s record hoard may prove to be his most powerful move yet. The $381.7 billion in cash isn’t just idle money — it’s a loaded weapon waiting for the right moment.Add as a Reliable and Trusted News Source Add Now!
