3 Mistakes Tony Khan must avoid making ahead of AEW Full Gear 2025

Last month in St. Louis, Missouri, AEW hosted this year's edition of WrestleDream. Now, the Tony Khan-led company is merely weeks away from presenting the 2025 iteration of Full Gear at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The upcoming pay-per-view is scheduled to feature some of the company's top stars, including Hangman Page, Samoa Joe, Kris Statlander, Mercedes Mone, FTR, and Brodido, with other names likely waiting to be announced for the card. Although the promotion's weekly television ratings have been struggling lately, its pay-per-view output has consistently impressed viewers. Tony Khan needs to keep this momentum going for Full Gear - as such, let us look at three mistakes he should avoid en route to the event.#1. Tony Khan should avoid booking an overly long cardAll Elite Wrestling brands itself as the company where "the best wrestle". In marked contrast to its primary rival, WWE, AEW is known for prioritizing in-ring action and storytelling over the gratuitous use of video packages, vignettes, and on-screen non-wrestling segments. As such, while the sports entertainment juggernaut often stages "PLEs" comprising only five or six matches, All Elite Wrestling PPVs almost always feature a greater number of bouts, and consequently run much longer.Consider AEW's biggest event of the year, All In: Texas, which had nine matches on the main card, similar to Forbidden Door 2025. All Out: Toronto and last month's WrestleDream both featured ten matches for their main shows. These figures, it should be noted, do not include bouts from the pre-shows the company hosts ahead of these pay-per-views. While hardcore fans rarely complain about the amount of action All Elite Wrestling broadcasts, a relatively shorter card could allow all of its matches to flow better and improve the overall pacing of the shows.Only four matches have been officially announced so far for Full Gear. It may be argued that Tony Khan should consider adding no more than four or five more bouts to the PPV. This could allow each matchup on the card to be properly fleshed out without tiring out the audience.#2. Tony Khan must elevate the Women's Blood and Guts match to the same level as the men'sJamie Hayter battled and defeated Julia Hart in the main event of the September 27 episode of AEW Collision. After the bout, the latter's Sisters of Sin teammate Skye Blue joined Julia in ambushing the former AEW Women's Champion until Queen Aminata arrived to make the save. As Thekla joined Hart and Blue outside the ring, Hayter alluded to The Triangle of Madness running roughshod over the women's roster over the past few months. Determined to squash the heel group for good, Jamie challenged the faction and its allies to face her and her own team in the first-ever Women's Blood and Guts match.Although the official date for the bout was soon revealed, it took AEW weeks to announce the official lineups for the violent double steel cage match. In fact, the participants for the Women's Blood and Guts were finally named a few hours ago, days after Darby Allin and The Conglomeration had laid out their own challenge to the Death Riders to face off in the men's version of the match on Fright Night Dynamite. While this delay may have been due to adjustments TK had to make because of Penelope Ford's injury, some fans have criticized the company for not adequately promoting the inaugural women's Blood and Guts.Official match graphic for the Women's Blood and Guts match [Image Credits: Tony Khan's X profile]Some viewers have even argued that AEW could have skipped a Blood and Guts match for the men's division this year, as it will be debuting the women's version next month in Greensboro, NC, to especially highlight the latter. However, since both matches are now officially set to take place, Tony Khan needs to make sure the women's matchup is hyped and built up with the same level of TV exposure that he usually affords his male performers.#3. Tony Khan must improve the build for Hangman Page vs. Samoa Joe II for the AEW ChampionshipAfter Adam Page retained his Men's World Title against Samoa Joe at WrestleDream 2025, the latter seemingly acknowledged the champion in a gesture of sportsmanship, only to immediately turn on The Cowboy alongside his trios partners Katsuyori Shibata and Powerhouse Hobbs. The Samoan Submission Machine viciously attacked Page and made it clear afterwards that he was still gunning for his World Championship. The Hangman did not take long to respond to Joe's betrayal and vowed to ruin the latter's life. This past Wednesday on Fright Night Dynamite, The Destroyer defeated Hook, Ricochet, and Bobby Lashley in a four-way contender's match for the Men's World Title, earning a shot at Page's strap at Full Gear 2025. The night did not end well for Joe, however, as he was blindsided by the "Main Character" of All Elite Wrestling, who took out The Opps and Joe in a Tony Schiavone disguise. There is no doubt that Hangman and Joe will put on another hard-hitting classic for their upcoming rematch at Full Gear. However, fans have been clamoring for their rivalry to hit the next level, possibly due to the likely odds of Page retaining the AEW World Championship against The Samoan Submission Specialist this month. This could be achieved by booking a massive arena-wide brawl between the champion and the challenger or by having Page face Shibata and Hobbs in separate singles matches.Official match graphic for Hangman Page vs Samoa Joe at Full Gear [Image Credits: AEW's X profile]Both Hangman and Joe are world-class performers, and the intensity of their feud could certainly reach new heights if they are given the right angles and material to work with.

Ryan Whitney makes big Oilers Stanley Cup prophecy after Blue Jays' Game 7 World Series loss breaks Canadian hearts

The Toronto Blue Jays suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 loss in Game 7 of the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday. However, NHL sportscaster Ryan Whitney predicted that the Edmonton Oilers would ease the pain with a title of their own.In the ninth inning, the Blue Jays were two outs away from winning their first World Series since 1993 when Dodgers' Miguel Rojas tied the game. While Whitney empathized with the Canadian supporters, he also made a little prophecy about the NHL playoffs."Oh man what a heartbreaker. All time game. Poor Canada. At least the Oilers will bring back the cup this year," Whitney wrote on his X account.Whitney is a dedicated Oilers fan. He has been publicly vocal about his support and has often criticized certain team decisions. He played for the Oilers from 2019 to 2013, scoring 71 points.Edmonton has made the Stanley Cup Finals in back-to-back years, where Florida has gotten the better of them. Last year, the Oilers scripted a comeback from 3 games down before losing Game 7. This year, the Panthers won in six games, extending the Canadian Stanley Cup drought to 32 years. The Oilers had a shaky start to their 2025-26 season but have steadied the ship with a 6-4-3 record. They won 3-2 against the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday. During the game, the jumbotron at Rogers Place switched to the Blue Jays' game during timeouts. The arena even had a fake-out celebration, believing the Blue Jays had won the World Series during a play in the ninth inning and second period of the Oilers game.Connor McDavid compliments Blue Jays on bringing together all of CanadaAs the sole Canadian representative in the MLB, the Toronto Blue Jays' postseason run drew massive support from not just Toronto or the Ontario province but all of the country. After his game against the Blackhawks, Oilers captain and 3x NHL MVP Connor McDavid made his feelings known about their achievement."Special, special," McDavid described during his presser. (2:40) "That's what sports is all about, is bringing people together. For the last throughout the summer and the last two months especially, they've really brought people together, and that's what it's all about. So, as I said, those guys can be very proud, hold their heads high. It was a special group."While the Blue Jays regroup in the offseason, the Oilers will look to continue their momentum. They have a two-game road trip to San Jose and Dallas before hosting the Colorado Avalanche next Saturday.

Deepti Sharma's parents back Team India to lift ICC Women's World Cup title

Agra (Uttar Pradesh) [India], November 2 (ANI): As India gear up to face South Africa in the ICC Women's World Cup final, the parents of all-rounder Deepti Sharma expressed confidence in the team's chances and backed their daughter to deliver a strong performance in the high-stakes clash. Hosts India Women will lock horns with South Africa Women in the final of the ICC Women's World Cup 2025 at Navi Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium on Sunday, with the tournament guaranteed to crown a new champion. The winner at the DY Patil Stadium will lift the coveted Women's Cricket World Cup trophy for the first time in their history. It will also be the first Women's Cricket World Cup final that will not feature Australia or England, according to Olympics.com. Sunday's title clash will be India's third time in the Women's World Cup final. India lost to Australia by 98 runs in the 2005 final and suffered a dramatic late collapse in 2017 against England to lose by nine runs. Deepti Sharma's father, Bhagwan Sharma, expressed confidence in the team's chances and said he believes India will lift the trophy. 'I am confident our Indian women's cricket team will win the World Cup... All players will play well; they've already beaten Australia, so they will beat South Africa today. I want to tell Deepti she's an all-rounder and needs to excel in batting, bowling, and fielding. We have faith, and she will perform her best today,' Bhagwan Sharma told ANI. Deepti Sharma's mother, Sushilaa Sharma, also expressed confidence in the team's success and said she believes her daughter will deliver a strong performance in the title clash. 'Just as winning every single mark in studies is crucial, every single run in the match matters. Our children often make the mistake of letting opponents hit fours early, and they keep giving up runs. They should focus on scoring runs from the start, even just one run at a time. Ultimately, this will lead to scoring many runs. We must win today at all costs. Deepti will perform exceptionally well. I've nurtured her from within, and when she has the bat and ball in her hands, everyone will see her game,' Sushilaa Sharma said. Deepti Sharma has been one of India's standout performers in the ongoing ICC Women's World Cup 2025. In the tournament so far, she has played eight matches, taking 17 wickets with best bowling figures of 4 for 51 and maintaining an economy rate of 5.70. With the bat, Deepti has also made valuable contributions, scoring 157 runs from six innings, including two half-centuries, at an impressive average of around 87.22. (ANI)

A MILLION families 'face having council tax DOUBLED' as Rachel Reeves looks to squeeze billions of pounds more out of every middle earner at Budget

A million families could face having their council tax doubled as Rachel Reeves scrambles to raise more cash at the Budget. The Chancellor is said to be looking at dramatically hiking the charge for the top bands amid a welter of measures to squeeze more out of the 'wealthy'. That could mean an eye-watering rise from £3,800 to £7,600 for residents of a band G household in England - and from £4,560 a year to £9,120 for those in band H. The move would hammer London and the South East, where property prices are higher. Critics warned it would spark a crisis for pensioners on fixed incomes and families who have stretched themselves to afford a dream home. The potential raid emerged as insiders revealed the Treasury has been ordered to find ways of getting more money out of everyone with incomes of more than £45,000 a year. Insiders claim that only Brits below that threshold - the bottom two-thirds of earners - are being defined as 'working people' to receive protection from Labour's tax assault. That effectively brands the top third of earners as 'wealthy' – encompassing jobs such as HGV drivers, teachers and head chefs at the Wagamama restaurant chain. Ms Reeves is facing an increasingly desperate situation in her fiscal package on November 26. The Treasury's OBR watchdog is believed to have downgraded productivity forecasts by 0.3 percentage points - adding an estimated £21billion to the black hole in the public finances. Sluggish economic growth, rising debt costs and humiliating U-turns on efforts to curb the benefits bill could add a further £20billion to the gap Ms Reeves has to fill. With seemingly no scope for trimming spending, fears are running high that the Chancellor will rely entirely on raising taxes. Insiders have confirmed that bigger property taxes are on the radar, while Keir Starmer has refused to rule out smashing the Labour manifesto by increasing income tax, national insurance or VAT. Ms Reeves has already delivered the biggest tax-raising Budget on record last year, soaking Brits for £41billion. Economists have warned this package might be on the same scale, and could have devastating impacts on growth. Even a far smaller raid would leave Ms Reeves having announced more tax hikes in 16 months than Gordon Brown did over a decade. Capital gains, pension reliefs, inheritance tax and partnership structures have also been listed among the ways Labour could seek to drum up funds. Final decisions are unlikely to be made for another fortnight or so, when the OBR will start factoring the government's plans into its draft forecasts. Sir Keir has previously mooted a bewildering array of definitions for a 'working person' since his election pledge not to increase taxes on them. At one point he said that it referred to someone who 'goes out and earns a living' and can't 'write a cheque to get them out of difficulty'. However, the idea they can be identified by salary opens the prospect that rises in income tax or National Insurance in the Budget on November 26 could make people on £46,000 worse off. Tory Shadow Business Secretary Andrew Griffith accused the Chancellor of planning to 'further massacre the take-home pay of millions of hard-working middle earners'. 'While boosting the pay of their union paymasters, Labour don't understand or care about those who get up and work hard to make a better life,' he said. Tory leader Kemi Badenoch warned that changes to council tax bands would force some pensioners 'out of their home'. She said: 'Creating new higher council tax bands will hammer people who have lived in the same house for decades, particularly pensioners, some of whom will be unable to pay this new tax and be forced out of their home.' Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK added: 'It is an assault on assets and will cause huge consternation amongst older people living in properties they bought many years ago.' Increasing the charge on existing top council tax bands could raise revenue faster than adding extra bands, another option that has been floated. Sources have suggested that Ms Reeves has been moving away from more 'radical' option such as replacing council tax with an annual levy based on property values.

Train stabbings witness saw person 'hanging out train door bleeding' after horror attack

A witnessed has recounted the terrifying moment he saw an individual "hanging out a train door bleeding" following a bloody knife rampage on a train near Huntingdon. Over 30 officers, including armed police, were dispatched to the scene near the Cambridgeshire station last night following reports of a man with a 'large knife '. Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as blood-soaked passengers fled to safety. The witness, who chose to remain unnamed , told The Mirror: "I was waiting for the 8:10pm train to Kings Cross when I spotted the train on the platform. I spotted someone hanging out the train door bleeding. "I looked further up the platform and see people running towards me bleeding and panicking. I saw someone in a hoodie running towards us so I shouted for everyone to leave the station immediately, so I got people out the station with me and to a place of safety." Another eyewitness reported seeing a man wielding a large knife, with passengers seeking refuge in the toilet to evade the onslaught, according to The Times. One witness informed the paper that there was "blood everywhere" and individuals were being "stamped" on by others in their desperate attempts to escape. I heard some people shouting we love (you)." A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Constabulary confirmed that two men were been arrested and several individuals have been hospitalised. They added: "We were called at 7.39pm with reports that multiple people had been stabbed on a train. "Armed officers attended and the train was stopped at Huntingdon, where two men were arrested. A number of people have been taken to hospital. The incident remains ongoing and the A1307 has been closed as you approach the town centre." London North Eastern Railway announced all lines were blocked following he attack. It said in an update: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident at Huntingdon all lines are blocked. Train services running through this station may be delayed. Disruption is expected until the end of the day." Following the attack, Prime Minister Keir Starmer shared a statement on social media. He said: "The appalling incident on a train near Huntingdon is deeply concerning. My thoughts are with all those affected, and my thanks go to the emergency services for their response. Anyone in the area should follow the advice of the police." For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters .

Rishabh Pant, Anshul Kamboj help India A clinch 3-wicket win in first unofficial Test

Bengaluru: Rishabh Pant‘s (90) and Anshul Kamboj’s late strike of an unbeaten 37 guided India A to a composed three-wicket win against South Africa A in the first unofficial Test Sunday, which was played here at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground 1. After being set a 275-run target to chase in the final innings, India A captain Rishabh Pant and lower-order batters shone with the bat as the hosts pulled off a win under pressure. With that, they now lead the two-match series 1-0. Batting first, South Africa A put up 309 runs in 91.2 overs before the Indian bowlers dished them out. Jordan Hermann, Zubayr Hamza, and Rubin Hermann stood out in the innings and scored half-centuries, while Tiaan van Vuuren supported with a well-made 46. Tanush Kotian was the pick of the bowlers for India, as he finished with a four-wicket haul. Batting next, India were bowled out for 234 runs in 58 overs, courtesy of Prenelan Subrayen’s five-wicket haul, and handed a 75-run lead to the visitors. However, the Proteas couldn’t replicate their performances from the first innings and could only extend their lead to 274, adding 199 runs on board in 48.1 overs, as the hosts set themselves a 275-run target. India’s start to the chase wasn’t how they expected, as the top order lineup of Sai Sudharsan, Ayush Mhatre and Devdutt Padikkal was dismissed in quick succession. However, Pant resurrected the innings with a fine 90(113) and carried his side’s momentum. Ayush Badoni joined hands with Pant as the duo stitched a composed partnership to start Day 4’s proceedings before the latter was dismissed. Pant and Badoni’s wickets added pressure on India, but lower-order batters Tanush Kotian, Manav Suthar and Kamboj pulled off the chase with brisk scores. Tanzania’s Hassan declared landslide winner in election marred by violence

Tanzania’s electoral commission declared on Saturday that President Samia Suluhu Hassan had won, with nearly 98 percent of the votes, an election that set off violent protests across the country this week. The result hands Hassan, who took power in 2021 after the death in office of her predecessor, a five-year term to govern the East African country of 68 million people. Protests erupted during Wednesday’s vote for president and parliament, with some demonstrators tearing down banners of Hassan and setting fire to government buildings and police firing tear gas and gunshots, according to witnesses. Demonstrators are angry about the electoral commission’s exclusion of Hassan’s two biggest challengers from the race and what they described as widespread repression. Tanzania’s main opposition party said on Friday that hundreds of people had been killed in the protests, while the U.N. human rights office said credible reports indicated at least 10 people were killed in three cities. The government dismissed the opposition’s death toll as “hugely exaggerated” and has rejected criticism of its human rights record. Reuters could not independently verify casualty figures. Commission says turnout was 87 percent The electoral commission said that Hassan received more than 31.9 million votes, or 97.66 percent of the total, with turnout nearing 87 percent of the country’s 37.6 million registered voters. Turnout appeared low on election day, according to witnesses, with some polling stations disrupted by the protests. The Tanzanian authorities have imposed a nationwide curfew for the past three nights and restricted access to the internet. Foreign Affairs Minister Mahmoud Thabit Kombo on Friday denied allegations that security services had used excessive force, saying there had only been a “very few small pockets of incidents” caused by criminal elements. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, in a statement issued on Friday by his spokesperson, called “for a thorough and impartial investigation into all allegations of excessive use of force” and deplored the loss of life. Recent criticism for Hassan Hassan, 65, won praise after taking office in 2021 from predecessor John Magufuli for easing repression that increased under his tenure but has more recently faced criticism from opposition parties and activists after a series of arrests and alleged abductions of opponents. She has denied allegations of widespread rights abuses. Last year, she said she had ordered an investigation into reports of abductions, but no official findings have been released. During the campaign, she touted accomplishments expanding road and railway networks and increasing power generation capacity. The main opposition party CHADEMA had called for protests during the election, which it said amounted to a “coronation.” CHADEMA was disqualified in April from the election after it refused to sign a code of conduct, and its leader Tundu Lissu was charged with treason. The commission also disqualified the candidate for opposition party ACT-Wazalendo, leaving only minor parties to take on Hassan.

Russia unveils new nuclear submarine

The ceremony took place in Severodvinsk, and was attended by Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov and other top brass. “Today is a significant event for us: the heavy nuclear-powered missile cruiser Khabarovsk is being launched from the slipway of the renowned Sevmash shipyard,” Belousov stated. “Carrying underwater weapons and robotic systems, it will enable us to successfully accomplish missions related to ensuring the security of Russia’s maritime borders and protecting its national interests in various parts of the world’s oceans,” he said. The minister added that the submarine still has to complete a series of sea tests, and wished its crew and builders further success. The ‘Khabarovsk’ “was specifically designed and built for the Poseidon,” former Chief of the Russian Navy’s General Staff, Admiral Viktor Kravchenko, told RIA Novosti on Saturday. The Poseidon cannot currently be intercepted by any means, according to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Earlier this week, Russia successfully carried out tests involving the state-of-the-art drone, as well as the unlimited-range Burevestnik cruise missile, Putin announced on Wednesday. The announcement came amid a stall in Ukraine peace talks, and discussions of potential US Tomahawk supplies to Kiev. US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he had instructed the Department of War to start testing nuclear weapons, citing strategic competition with Russia and China. However, Russia is “still not” in an arms race with the US, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Thursday, when asked to comment on the recent arms tests.

3rd T20I: Jitesh, Arshdeep & Washington come in as India opt to bowl first against Australia

Hobart: Jitesh Sharma, Arshdeep Singh, and Washington Sundar have been included in India’s playing eleven, as skipper Suryakumar Yadav won the toss and elected to bowl first in the third T20I against Australia at Bellerive Oval Sunday. India is seeking a series-levelling win in what is also their first-ever T20I game in Hobart, while Australia is looking to go 2-0 up in the five-match series. After winning the toss, Suryakumar said Jitesh, Arshdeep, and Washington come in place of Sanju Samson, Harshit Rana, and Kuldeep Yadav in the playing eleven. “The ball will come on nicely to the bat in the 2nd innings. Happy to take it one game at a time,” he said. Australia captain Mitchell Marsh stated that seamer Sean Abbott will replace Josh Hazlewood in the playing eleven. Hazlewood has been rested from the remainder of the series to mainly concentrate on Ashes preparations. Abbott, meanwhile, took figures of 3-25 from four overs in his most recent T20I against New Zealand at Mount Maunganui. It also means that Glenn Maxwell will have to wait to return to the Australian team after recovering from a wrist injury. “It’s a belter of a wicket. Want to get off to a good start and post a big total,” he said. Former Australia captain Aaron Finch described the pitch as “beautiful batting conditions”. With hot and windy weather and small boundaries on offer, Finch has predicted a high-scoring contest at the venue. Playing XIs India: Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Tilak Varma, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Jasprit Bumrah Australia: Mitchell Marsh (captain), Travis Head, Josh Inglis (wk), Tim David, Mitchell Owen, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Short, Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis, and Matthew Kuhnemann

West Ham: Nuno Espirito Santo searching for solutions after stormy start

What Nuno Espirito Santo would do for some calm amidst the storm at West Ham. The Hammers’ head coach, still searching for his first win in charge, has been criticised for his experimental lineups since taking over from Graham Potter at the end of September. However, even he admits he wished the answers to his side’s problems were more straightforward. The east Londoners sit 19th in the Premier League table after nine games, “It's something that doesn't please us, something that personally I don't like. I would like to have found a solution earlier and stick to it,” Nuno told reporters ahead of today’s encounter with Newcastle, which is set to be dominated by more supporter protests. “But I think it's our obligation to try and find a solution because the team is not producing.” Nuno has played his full-backs out of position, with left-back Ollie Scarles at right-back and right-back Aaron Wan Bissaka on the left against Leeds. He also brought midfielder Andy Irving in from the cold and opted not to operate with an out-and-out striker. There is an understanding that the former Tottenham and Nottingham Forest boss needs to look outside the box to try and turn things around at West Ham, but so far, there has been no upturn in results, and supporters cannot help but refocus their attentions towards the club’s board. Supporters’ group Hammers United are organising a sit-in after the full-time whistle against Newcastle as they seek to put pressure on chairman David Sullivan and vice-chair Karren Brady to step down. The sit-in is the latest in a series of sustained protests against the club’s board, and with every passing result, West Ham are without a win since August, calls for Sullivan and Brady’s resignations grow louder. Nuno is trying to ignore the outside noise and the “speculation” around the future of midfielder Lucas Paqueta by creating a siege mentality. His job is to improve the players he has at his disposal. Results have to improve before he can look to the January market for reinforcements. “We must improve the players individually,” the Portuguese continued. “Many of them, and they know, are performing under their real quality. “This is what we are doing. We are doing really, really hard and focused on individual development. “Until January 1, I don't even think about it [new signings]. My priority is to improve these players, improve our squad. Starting individual[ly], then with small groups, by lines, defence, midfielders, attackers. Everybody has to improve.“ Paqueta, who turned down a move to Aston Villa in the summer, is someone Nuno says he is looking at to be a “symbol” for his side. “Being a No10 is more than a number in my view. Being a 10 is a symbol. This is what we need from Lucas,” he continued. “[We need] the best of him. For him to really help the team-mates, because the team-mates trust him a lot. They know that there's much more for him to give us.” Ahead of two crucial home games against Newcastle and Burnley, Nuno is looking for some inspiration from Paqueta. “We need Lucas,” the ex-Wolves manager said, as well as the “massively important” Jarrod Bowen after a dispiriting start to life in the West Ham dugout. Nearly four months into the season, and the Hammers’ form is quickly becoming more than just a worrying start. Relegation talk is not as far-fetched as it seemed when Nuno dismissed suggestions his team were facing a fight against the drop in his first week in the job.

US, China agree to open direct military hotline after Xi-Trump summit

The United States and China plan to establish military-to-military communications channels "to deconflict and deescalate" potential problems, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said Saturday after talking with his Chinese counterpart. In a post on X, Hegseth said he had a "positive meeting" with Admiral Dong Jun, China’s Minister of National Defense, in the wake of President Donald Trump's meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. During their talk, the two defense leaders agreed that the best path forward for the U.S. and China involves "peace, stability, and good relations." "Admiral Dong and I also agreed that we should set up military-to-military channels to deconflict and deescalate any problems that arise. We have more meetings on that coming soon. God bless both China and the USA!" Hegseth wrote, in part. TRUMP TOUTS ‘12 OUT OF 10’ MEETING WITH XI, DOWNPLAYS REPORTS OF VENEZUELA STRIKES Earlier Saturday, Hegseth attended a separate meeting in Malaysia with defense leaders from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), where he urged them to push back against Beijing’s aggressive actions in the South China Sea. "China’s sweeping territorial and maritime claims in the South China Sea fly in the face of their commitments to resolve disputes peacefully," Hegseth said at the meeting, according to The Associated Press. "We seek peace. We do not seek conflict. But we must ensure that China is not seeking to dominate you or anybody else," he added. OPINION: TRUMP SCORES FOUR BIG WINS WITH XI, BUT HAS ONE BIG MISS The South China Sea remains volatile with Beijing, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and Brunei all claiming overlapping territories. China's maritime fleet has frequently clashed with the Philippines in the disputed waters, with Chinese officials recently describing the country as a "troublemaker" for staging naval and air drills with the U.S., Australia and New Zealand. Hegseth defended the U.S. ally during the Saturday meeting by saying Beijing's designation of the Scarborough Shoal – a territory seized from the Philippines in 2012 – as a "nature reserve" "yet another attempt to coerce new and expanded territorial and maritime claims at your expense." CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE FOX NEWS APP The War Secretary then urged ASEAN to finalize the Code of Conduct with China and proposed creating a "shared maritime domain awareness" network and rapid-response systems to deter provocations – measures he said would ensure that any member facing "aggression and provocation is not alone." Hegseth also welcomed plans for an ASEAN-U.S. maritime exercise in December aimed at strengthening coordination and safeguarding freedom of navigation.

Europe sets new record for October LNG imports

MOSCOW, November 2. /TASS/. Europe set a new record for liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports for the month of October, according to data from Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE). Overall, during the summer season from April through October, the EU purchased a record 82.5 bln cubic meters of LNG. In October, LNG flows from European terminals into the EU gas transmission system amounted to around 12.6 bln cubic meters, or 11% higher than in September and 43% above the level recorded in October 2024. In total, over the first 10 months of the year, LNG deliveries from terminals into Europe’s gas transmission network remained at a record level, exceeding 116.5 bln cubic meters - 28% more than in the same period of 2024. Over the summer period from April through October, Europe imported LNG at record volumes, with total supplies to the region surpassing 82.5 bln cubic meters, according to TASS calculations. The previous record for LNG imports was set in 2023. In 2025, LNG has accounted for the largest share of Europe’s gas supply sources, 44.7%, according to data from the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) as of October 30. Supplies from the North Sea (primarily Norwegian gas) ranked second with a 29.6% share, while gas supplies from North Africa accounted for 10.3%. This share exceeded imports from the East (Russian pipeline gas, gas supplied via Ukraine, as well as volumes withdrawn by European companies from Ukrainian underground storage), which amounted to 6.8%. Gas supplies from the United Kingdom accounted for 4.7%, and those from Azerbaijan for 3.9%.
