Pep Guardiola compares Erling Haaland to two legendary players amid rampant form

Pep Guardiola and Erling Haaland celebrated Manchester City’s latest win on Sunday (Picture: Getty Images) Erling Haaland’s incredible form continued with two goals against Bournemouth on Sunday and Pep Guardiola has compared the striker to two of the all-time greats. The Norwegian has been close to unstoppable so far this campaign, scoring 13 Premier League goals in 10 appearances and 17 in 13 outings across all competitions. The 25-year-old has scored seven more goals than any other player in the Premier League after his brace in a 3-1 win over the Cherries. He has also produced absurd numbers on the international stages, scoring nine goals in three games for Norway since the start of the season. Guardiola is obviously thrilled to have arguably the best striker on the planet in his side and says his goal-scoring record means he can be compared to legends of the sport, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. ‘This is what it’s like if you play with Messi or Ronaldo, his influence is so big,’ Guardiola said after beating Bournemouth. ‘You see the numbers of that guy? Of course he’s that level. ‘Messi and Ronaldo have done it for 15 years, but this is the level. The first goal, the way he shoots the ball, it’s like “I am going to score”. Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi long set the standards in world football (Picture: Getty Images) ‘He has that hunger. It’s top. I said how incredibly coachable and manageable he is. ‘I am tough sometimes with Haaland, but he is open-minded. He lives for the goals and sometimes the pressure cannot sustain 90 minutes, but that’s normal. ‘Without him it would be tough to be honest, but we are lucky that Omar [Marmoush] is back, and we have fit players, it’s good.’ Haaland has scored seven more Premier League goals than any other player this season (Picture: Getty Images) Guardiola added to the BBC: ‘We are so blessed and lucky to have, first of all, an incredible person because he’s the sweetest and kindest. And he will improve. And after that, as a player the numbers are just outstanding.’ Haaland was pleased to be back on the scoresheet after a rare blank last time out in a 1-0 loss at Aston Villa. ‘Important win. It is good to bounce back after losing a bad away game. It was nice,’ he told Sky Sports. We need to talk about Erling Haaland 🤖 pic.twitter.com/93hZeQvwqk— Sky Sports Premier League (@SkySportsPL) November 2, 2025 ‘I tried to contribute for the team by doing my job. It is good to win. Now two more important games to come, so keep focusing. ‘I didn’t score last game. I try to help the team to win. That is my goal and even by scoring or helping in winning duels it doesn’t matter. I want to help the team become better, that is my job.’ The win sees Manchester City climb back to second in the Premier League table, six points behind leaders Arsenal. Take a seat at stage of policy formulation tables –Senyo Hosi charges engineers

The members of the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE), has been charged to find its rightful seat at the stage of policy formulation tables of Government and lead the developmental agenda of the nation. The call was made by Mr. Senyo Hosi, Founder and Executive Chairman of Kleeve and Tove Limited, when he delivered a thought-provoking address as the Keynote Speaker, at the GhIE Annual Ethics Lecture series, at the Engineering Centre, Roman Ridge, Accra, on Thursday, October 30, 2025. Speaking on the theme: “Feeding Ghana Responsibly: The Ethical Role of Engineers,” the Public Policy Advocate, Mr. Senyo Hosi expressed dissatisfaction that over 45% of our population, about 15 million of our own people seem to be experiencing food insecurity. He said, with relatively higher arable land per hectare per capita, it is unacceptable and does not auger well for our populace to be experiencing food insecurity. “About 8 years ago, we had about 11 million people experiencing food insecurity, fast forward, we now have about 40% increase to about 15 million people experiencing food insecurity. That’s troubling!” Mr. Senyo Hosi explained. He therefore called on Engineers in the country to get involved in the Ministry of Agriculture’s currently launched program dubbed, Feed Ghana Programme (FGP), because Agriculture and Engineering, and current modern practice are intertwined. The Feed Ghana Programme is an integrated agriculture acceleration program aimed at boosting food production, feeding the nation, providing raw materials for industry, and creating jobs. The Chairman of the function, Hon. Eric Opoku, Minister for Food and Agriculture, in a message read on his behalf by the Chief Technical Advisor to the Minister, and former MP for Kintampo North, Hon. Kwasi Etu-Bonde, said, food security is not just about increasing yields or expanding production. It is about ensuring that the systems, technologies, and infrastructure that support agriculture are efficient, safe and environmentally responsible. And this is where the engineering profession plays such a crucial role. “From the design of irrigation networks and post-harvest storage systems to the development of agro-processing facilities and rural infrastructure, engineers are indispensable partners in building the foundation of a resilient and productive food system. But beyond technical expertise, this work demands ethical mindfulness - the commitment to make decisions that safeguard the environment, protect public health, and advance social equity,” he added. The Agric Minister emphasized that to feed Ghana responsibly is therefore, not only a scientific or economic challenge. It is an ethical one. It requires engineers, along with policymakers, farmers and industry players, to align innovation with responsibility, and progress with sustainability. In her welcome address, the Chair, Professional Practice and Ethics Committee, Annual Ethics Lecture 2025, of the GhIE, Ing Yaa Okudzeto, said, this year’s theme, calls on Engineers to consider how their work intersects with one of the most essential pillars of national development – food security. She explained that, as engineers, whether in agriculture, water management, energy, transportation, or advanced technology, their decisions influence how sustainably and equitably Ghana can feed her people. The Vice-President of GhIE, Ing. Dr. Patrick Bekoe, who stood in for the President of GhIE, Ing. Ludwig Annang Hesse, said, in addition to the government’s 24-hour Economy initiative is the Feed Ghana Programme launched in April, 2025. The government has also introduced the Presidential Initiative in Agriculture and Agribusiness (PIAA) to advance the modernization of the agricultural sector. He added that the success of these visionary programmes rest heavily on the ingenuity and dedication of Ghanaian engineering professionals. Ing. Dr. Bekoe stated that across the country, engineering practitioners design and maintain agricultural mechanization systems; develop agro-infrastructure and climate-resilient structures; improve rural access and electrification; advancement of renewable energy and smart-farming technologies; promote sustainable land and water management; and optimize industrial processes and supply chains. Yet, as essential as these contributions are, they will yield their full benefit only when carried out with ethical conviction. The Guest of honor, Mr. Benjamin Gyan-Kesse, Executive Director, Kosmos Innovation Center reminded us that as long as Everyone Eats, the need to promote ethical engineering solutions to advance the value chain of agriculture is vital. He emphasised the importance of engineering solutions through collaborative effort and supportive measures to improve food security in Ghana. Present at the program included: Ing. Sophia Tijani, the President-Elect of GhIE, Ing. Kwabena Bempong, the Immediate Past President of GhIE, Council members of GhIE, Past Presidents of GhIE, Ing. Juliet Gbormittah, Director of Membership Services of GhIE, the Registrar of the Engineering Council, Ing. Isaac Bedu and the general public.

Wolves sack Vitor Pereira after winless start to Premier League season

Wolves have sacked head coach Vitor Pereira after failing to win any of their 10 Premier League games this season. A 3-0 defeat by Fulham on Saturday was Wolves' eighth of the top-flight campaign. They are bottom of the table, eight points off safety. Pereira took charge in December 2024 and signed a new three-year contract in September. But a section of supporters turned on Pereira after the 3-2 loss to Burnley last week, when he was escorted away from heated discussions with fans after full-time at Molineux. A club statement, which said all eight of Pereira's backroom staff have also left, said "results and performances this term have fallen below acceptable standards and as a result a change in leadership was deemed necessary". Executive chairman Jeff Shi said: "Vitor and his team worked tirelessly for Wolves and helped guide us through a challenging period last season, for which we are grateful. "Unfortunately, the start to this season has been a disappointment and, despite our strong desire to give the head coach time and matches to find an improvement, we have reached a point where we must make a change." James Collins and Richard Walker, head coaches of Wolves' under-21 and under-18 teams respectively, will "take training while the club finalise the appointment of a new first-team head coach", the statement read. Pereira said: "It has been a privilege to manage Wolverhampton Wanderers and experience unique moments with this club and its supporters. "I would like to thank the club's owners for their trust, the players for their hard work and commitment over these months, and all the staff for making me feel part of the family. "I wish the club all the best for the rest of the season." Wolves beat West Ham and Everton in the Carabao Cup this season but were knocked out in the last 16 by Chelsea on Wednesday. BBC Sport understands Pereira was informed of his dismissal on Sunday morning, and the new contract he signed in September will not be paid in full. He is said to regret not leaving before the start of the season. Wolves were 19th when Pereira replaced Gary O'Neil last December, and he guided them to safety by finishing 16th. Pereira lost several key players in the summer, with Matheus Cunha moving to Manchester United for £62.5m, Rayan Ait-Nouri joining Manchester City for £31m and captain Nelson Semedo departing for Fenerbahce when his contract expired. Speculation over the future of Norway striker Jorgen Strand Larsen also proved an unwelcome distraction during Wolves' difficult start to the campaign, with Pereira attempting to bed in six new recruits. The ire of supporters in recent weeks has also been focused on Shi and owners Fosun, with chants aimed towards them by fans at Craven Cottage on Saturday. Pereira's arrival midway through last season signalled a significant change in fortunes for Wolves and they survived comfortably, helped by a six-match winning run. But that positivity soon evaporated as Wolves began this campaign with five league losses in a row. They are now on a run of three successive league defeats. Their two points came from successive draws against Tottenham and Brighton, although Wolves conceded a late equaliser in both games. Wolves have lost to all three promoted clubs - Leeds, Sunderland and Burnley - this season. Speaking to BBC Match of the Day after the defeat at Fulham, Pereira described it as "maybe the worst performance for my team".

Calculating Risk and Responsibility: The Life of an Actuary

Eguchi described the main duty of an actuary as calculating corporate liabilities related to retirement benefits and pension systems, ensuring that companies properly recognize these obligations. “Our role is to calculate the necessary contributions and report the results to clients so that their management is not negatively affected,” he said. His interest in the profession began during his second year as a mathematics student at university, when he began exploring careers that made practical use of mathematical skills. “I came across actuarial work online and found it suited my strengths,” he recalled. While he also considered accounting and quantitative finance, he chose the actuarial path because it allowed for self-directed study toward certification. Actuarial work in Japan generally falls into three categories: pensions, life insurance, and nonlife insurance. Eguchi chose the pension field because it involves direct interaction with corporate clients rather than internal accounting. “I enjoy working with people, so I felt the pension field was a better fit,” he said. Eguchi joined Mitsubishi UFJ Trust Bank for its strong support system for qualification studies and professional growth. The bank provides study leave before exams and has one of Japan’s largest actuarial teams, with about 70 certified actuaries and over 100 trainees currently pursuing certification. After joining, Eguchi discovered that the job involved far more teamwork than he had expected. “Actuaries collaborate closely with general staff and temporary employees to produce accurate reports. I realized how essential communication is,” he said. The bank also gives young actuaries significant responsibilities early in their careers, allowing them to manage major projects, coordinate schedules, and handle client communications from start to finish. Earning full actuarial certification is a demanding process that typically takes around eight years. Candidates must pass five subjects in the first stage of exams and two in the second. “Maintaining motivation over such a long period is crucial,” Eguchi explained. He added that while students don’t need the qualification when applying for jobs, those aiming to become actuaries should start studying early to complete as many subjects as possible before joining a company. According to Eguchi, the profession suits people who enjoy thinking deeply and solving problems. “You must constantly check the validity of data and compliance with laws and accounting standards,” he said. “If something doesn’t add up, you investigate until it makes sense.” He also emphasized that humanities students can succeed as long as they are comfortable with numbers and committed to continuous learning. Looking ahead, Eguchi hopes to expand his expertise beyond pensions into risk management and data analysis—areas that are becoming increasingly important for actuaries worldwide. “Passing the exams is just the beginning. I want to keep growing and building a second area of expertise,” he said. He finds the greatest satisfaction when clients express appreciation for his work. “Pension actuaries are involved in every stage of the process, from planning to final reporting. Hearing gratitude from clients makes all the effort worthwhile,” he said. Source: 産経ニュース

Premier League: Haaland double helps Man City move up to second

Erling Haaland was back on the scoresheet with two goals to help Manchester City return to winning ways in the Premier League with a 3-1 victory and leapfrog Bournemouth into second place. Pep Guardiola's side had suffered their first defeat in 10 games at Aston Villa last Sunday, with Haaland not finding the net for only the second time this season. But the Norwegian's double proved crucial against the in-form Cherries as City moved six points behind leaders Arsenal. Bournemouth almost made the dream start when they had the ball in the net after 46 seconds through Eli Junior Kroupi, but the goal was ruled out for offside as the teenager looked to score for a fourth successive league game. Despite the early scare, the hosts went ahead in the 17th minute courtesy of Haaland, who latched on to Rayan Cherki's neat header on the halfway line and there was only going to be one outcome as the striker stroked home an unerring finish. The visitors, though, restored parity just eight minutes later when Tyler Adams reacted quickest to crash home following Gianluigi Donnarumma's miscued punch, although the goalkeeper felt he had been held by David Brooks at the corner and was booked for his protestations. It was USA midfielder Adams' first goal in English football during spells at Leeds and Bournemouth. City, though, have a prolific marksman in Haaland and the striker linked up again with Cherki before going around Djordje Petrovic and coolly converted his 13th league goal of the campaign - and 26 in all competitions for club and country. He was denied a first-half hat-trick when a chipped effort was clawed away by the Bournemouth goalkeeper and also headed over at the start of the second period. Kroupi had a first-time shot batted away by Donnarumma and that miss proved crucial as Nico O'Reilly burst forward at the other end on the hour mark and drilled in a precise, finish low into the corner to seal an impressive success.

Pep Guardiola claims referees have been against Man City for a DECADE and admits confronting official over controversial Bournemouth goal

Erling Haaland went two steps closer to joining the Premier League’s 100 club before Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola slammed the standard of refereeing across his decade in charge. Haaland’s brace against Bournemouth takes him to 98 goals and helped City move back to second but Guardiola was incensed by an equaliser from Tyler Adams after Gianluigi Donnarumma appealed for a foul from a corner. Anthony Taylor and the VAR Paul Tierney allowed the goal to stand and Guardiola later heavily criticised the refereeing fraternity – suggesting they have been predisposed to award decisions against City throughout his time in England. ‘An unbelievable goal for the official,’ Guardiola said after David Brooks hooked the City goalkeeper’s arm before letting go from the set piece. ‘I'm one decade here and we know each other quite well. I'm so pleased what we achieved with Man City despite everything. It has been so good. So good.’ Guardiola confirmed that he confronted Taylor but claimed that he has never called the PGMOL to query officiating. ‘I don't have time to waste my time talking,’ he added. ‘No, no, absolutely not. I said to him after when we saw each other, tell me if it's a foul or not because I'm waiting. If it's a foul or not, just tell me. Just take a look. It's fine. They're brave here. In the Etihad they are brave, so brave. ‘In the past, a lot of prestigious managers called them… I don't do it. Of course they will not call me. I know all the referees, I know them one decade perfectly, what is going on in this stadium. I know it.’ Haaland’s double took him to 13 of City’s 20 league goals so far this season and Guardiola believes the Norwegian has already hit the heights of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. The Catalan is challenging Haaland to keep up those numbers, adding: ‘Has he reached that level? You see the numbers of that guy? Oh my God, yeah, of course he's at that level. ‘So the numbers from Cristiano and Messi, the difference of Cristiano and Messi, have been for 15 years. You see Messi still in MLS, he scores two or three goals every day. Cristiano and Saudi are the same. But he's at that level. ‘Look at the way he shoots the ball. It's like, I'm going to score. This is starvation, right? I'm tough sometimes with him. He’s open-minded and down to Earth. He wants to be better.’

Former Haryana Finance Minister quits Cong. with veiled attack on the Hoodas

Former Haryana Finance Minister and six-time MLA Sampat Singh on Sunday quit Congress saying the party had become the fief of one person and family and the people of Haryana were now disappointed with both its the State and central leadership. In a four-page resignation letter posted on his X account, Mr. Singh pointed out that no accountability was fixed for the party’s consecutive defeats since 2009 and no action has been taken against those responsible for the “ticket theft”, alluding at denial of tickets to deserving candidates. The Congress won 67 seats under the leadership of Bhajan Lal in 2005 and the defeats have continued since then, he said. Mr. Singh had attended the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) rally at Rohtak on September 25 to commemorate the 112th birth anniversary of former Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhary Devi Lal and is now expected to join the party soon. In another post on X on October 1, he had raised question over the appointment of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda as Congress Legislature Party leader saying “this decision has left the party’s loyal workers disheartened and there is a situation of disbelief among the public”. Commenting on the party’s unexpected defeat in the last Assembly poll in October, Mr. Singh in his resignation letter said Dalit voters overwhelmingly supported the party in the Lok Sabha poll earlier but the State leadership, driven by arrogance and family interests, marginalised the party’s SC leader Kumari Selja. “Casteist remarks and offensive videos were circulated against her, and her supporters were denied tickets. As a result, the Dalit community boycotted the Congress,” read the letter. Mr. Singh alleged that the party ignored the winning candidates for the Assembly poll and gave tickets to those with “money power”. Those close to the State leadership contested as “Independents” to harm the party, he added. Saying several prominent leaders – Bhajan Lal, Rao Inderjit Singh, Kuldeep Bishnoi, Ashok Tanwar, and Dharambir Singh – had quit Congress over the past few years in a warning to the party, Mr. Singh, without naming the Hoodas, said a national party was reduced to be a family undertaking when the son of a prominent leader was sent to Rajya Sabha in 2020 instead of a deserving member of the Scheduled Castes or Backward Classes. The former Leader of the Opposition also hinted at a conspiracy behind the defeat of eminent lawyer R.K. Anand in the Rajya Sabha poll in Haryana in 2016 despite his name having been approved by Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and the support of 37 MLAs of the Congress and INLD. Mr. Singh alleged that senior leaders continued to be insulted in the party even as the central leadership remained silent. “Congress has now become the fiefdom of one person and one family, where loyalty is rewarded with servitude and dissent is punished with expulsion,” he said. The resignation came hours after the first meeting of the party’s Disciplinary Action Committee on Sunday warning leaders to not express their grievances on public platforms and instead discuss them with the party leadership.
