Danielle Collis November 11, 2025 - 11:19AMMotoring Share via Email Share on Facebook Share on Whatsapp Listen to this article Copied URL to clipboard Tesla owners furious with Elon Musk's FSD promises Broken promises surrounding Tesla's Full Self-Driving claims have upset the company's fan base, as James Chung reports. When Tesla flicked the switch on its Full Self-Driving FSD (Supervised) technology in September, Australians became the first right-hand-drive market in the world to get the controversial feature. But experts warn the system is “dangerously misleading” and unregulated, putting lives at risk. Car Mechanical Services CEO, Co-founder and long-time government safety adviser Raffy Sgroi said Tesla’s branding gives drivers a false sense of security. “The term ‘Full Self-Driving’ is dangerously misleading,” she said. MORE: Tesla enables full self driving in Australia Co-Founder and CEO of Car Mechanical Services Raffy Sgroi. Picture: Supplied “Despite its name, this system is not autonomous. It requires constant driver supervision, hands on the wheel, and eyes on the road. Yet the branding encourages a false sense of security, one that directly contradicts the system’s actual capabilities.” At midnight on September 18, Tesla rolled out FSD (Supervised) across Australia and New Zealand, with more than 50,000 local owners having access to the latest technology. The over-the-air update allows the cars to steer, brake, change lanes merge, and navigate intersections and roundabouts with minimal driver input, but under Australian law, the driver must remain fully attentive at all times. Australia is one of just a handful of countries, Elon Musk’s Tesla has rolled out FSD in. RELATED: Elon Musk responds to Aussie journo Ms Sgroi has spent more than two decades advising government on regulatory compliance, says Tesla’s approach is unlike anything she has seen before and that Australia has effectively allowed an unfinished technology to operate without oversight. ‘STARK DISCONNECT’ “In my 20-plus years advising governments on safety protocols and regulatory compliance, I have never seen such a stark disconnect between a product’s name and its functional reality,,” she said. She compared the tech industry’s “move fast, and break things” attitude to “a recipe for tragedy” when applied to public roads. Copied URL to clipboard Tesla finally enables full self driving in Australia Elon Musk’s Tesla has just dropped a huge... Tesla insists the technology remains a level 2 advanced driver-assistance system, not an autonomous one. “Drivers must maintain proper control of the vehicle at all times,” the company said in its Australian release. Ms Sgroi said Tesla’s global approach to development, learning through the live driver data, means Australians are effectively participating in an experiment every time they turn it on. “What troubles me deeply is that Tesla has effectively turned public roads into a testing laboratory. Every FSD-equipped vehicle is collecting data, learning, and yes, making mistakes,” she said. MORE: Tesla’s Full Self-Driving puts Aussies at risk Reporter Danielle Collis testing Tesla's Full Self Driving (Supervised). Picture: Supplied “But these are not mistakes made on closed courses with professional safety drivers. These are errors happening at 110 km/h on highways, in school zones, and at busy intersections, often where families are simply trying to get to work or school.” She said the system’s braking and automation capabilities risk “automation complacency”, where drivers trust the car too much and become distracted. “Here’s what concerns me most: we are deploying beta-level technology that fundamentally misunderstands human psychology,” she said. Ms Sgroi believes the rollout is especially risky because the system was trained primarily on American roads. “Australia’s right-hand drive configuration introduces an entirely different set of variables. Our roundabouts, unique intersection designs, and road signage conventions differ substantially from the environments where this system received most of its training data,” she said. “I’ve seen first-hand how systems optimised for one market can fail catastrophically in another without proper adaptation.” MORE: Tesla faces class action over Full Self-Driving failures Tesla has tested "Full Self Driving" in Australia. Picture: Supplied Adding to this, Ms Sgroi said that under current laws, if a crash occurs while using FSD, the driver remains responsible, which leaves drivers vulnerable. WHO IS RESPONSIBLE? “When an FSD-enabled Tesla crashes in Australia, who is responsible? The driver who was told to remain vigilant but was lulled into complacency by the system’s name? The company that pushed an unfinished product to public roads? The state government which licenses drivers? The federal government that approved vehicle imports?,” she said. “This legal and ethical grey zone is unprecedented in automotive history.” The federal government is currently drafting an Automated Vehicle Safety Law, expected to come into effect in 2026, which will establish national standards for automated driving systems. However, Ms Sgroi said “it’s taking too much time to develop the National framework adequately” and that the Federal government isn’t listening to industry-based insights. “It needs to be developed before goals are formally announced (as is currently the case),” she said. Reporter Danielle Collis testing Tesla's Full Self Driving (Supervised). Australia is allowing deployment of technology not adequately trained for local conditions, on a road network unlike that used for development, with wildlife and weather hazards unique to our country, and essentially no regulatory framework to ensure public safety. We are gambling with lives.” Tesla has been approached for comment. Shreyas Iyer Shares Beach Photo After Surviving Life-Threatening Spleen Injury

India batter Shreyas Iyer has shared his first public update since surviving a life-threatening spleen injury, posting a picture from a serene beach vacation that instantly went viral among cricket fans. The 30-year-old, who sustained a lacerated spleen during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney, expressed gratitude for the support and prayers he received during his recovery phase. Also Read: Who Will RCB Retain And Release Ahead Of The IPL 2026 Mega Auction?“Sun’s been a great therapy. Grateful to be back. Thanks for all the love and care,” wrote Iyer on Instagram, marking a positive step in his long road to recovery.Wearing a blue bucket hat and reflective sunglasses, Iyer looked relaxed and content — a stark contrast to the tense scenes from Sydney just weeks earlier when the cricketer’s health scare left the entire cricketing community on edge. The Moment That Changed Everything in SydneyThe harrowing incident occurred on October 25, 2025, during the third ODI between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. While fielding, Iyer sprinted forward to take a diving catch to dismiss Alex Carey. He successfully completed the catch but landed awkwardly on his abdomen.Initially believed to be a rib injury, scans later revealed a lacerated spleen with internal bleeding, a potentially fatal condition that required immediate medical intervention. The BCCI issued a statement confirming the seriousness of the situation, stating that Iyer had undergone a minor procedure and appropriate medical management to control the internal bleeding. The swift response by the on-ground medical team, followed by expert care from Sydney-based Dr Kouroush Haghigi and Indian specialist Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, proved crucial in stabilizing the player. Iyer was kept under close observation in a Sydney hospital before being discharged to continue his recovery under medical supervision.Suryakumar Yadav and Team India Rally Behind IyerThroughout Iyer’s hospital stay, India captain Suryakumar Yadav kept fans updated about his condition, reassuring everyone that the Mumbai batter was “doing well and in good spirits.” Teammates and cricketing peers flooded social media with messages of support, reflecting Iyer’s immense popularity within the dressing room and among fans.India went on to win that Sydney ODI — their only victory in the three-match series they lost 1–2 — but the celebrations were muted, with most players’ thoughts firmly on Iyer’s well-being.A Grateful Comeback and the Road AheadAfter weeks of uncertainty, Iyer’s beach photo came as a wave of relief for Indian cricket fans. His post, captioned with gratitude and positivity, symbolized both physical and emotional healing. The Mumbai-born batter, known for his elegant stroke play and leadership composure, is expected to be out of competitive action for at least three months. Consequently, he has not been named in India’s squad for the two-Test series against South Africa beginning November 14 in Kolkata. However, sources suggest that Iyer is eyeing a comeback during the home white-ball series against New Zealand, scheduled to follow the South Africa tour. His return, though, will depend entirely on medical clearance and match fitness.A Fighter’s Spirit: From Surgery to SunlightIyer’s journey over the past few weeks has been nothing short of inspirational. From being rushed off the Sydney field in visible pain to now smiling by the sea, the transformation highlights his determination and resilience. While physical recovery remains a priority, the mental strength displayed by Iyer — in facing a rare and severe sports injury — underscores why he is one of India’s most admired modern cricketers. The beach photo, symbolizing calm after chaos, resonated deeply with fans who flooded his post with thousands of supportive comments. Many hailed his return to the public eye as a sign that he is not just healing, but ready to reclaim his place in Indian cricket when the time is right.

‘Imagine Your Card Declines At Matha Take’: Gurdwara In UK Installs Card Machine, Sparks Fun Reactions

When we visit places of worship, be it a temple, church, mosque or gurdwara, it is common to make offerings or donations. Usually, people carry some cash for this purpose. But in today’s digital world, that is not always the case. Many of us have found ourselves reaching into our wallets only to realise we don’t have any money. Now, a Gurdwara in the UK seems to have solved that problem in a truly modern way. They have installed a card payment machine, letting devotees make donations with just a tap. Yes, you read that right, a contactless way to give your offering. Clip Shows Card Machine Inside Gurdwara In a short video posted on Instagram, the camera captures a peaceful scene inside a Gurdwara in England. You can hear the sacred hymns being read in the background while the camera slowly pans toward the front of the shrine. Sitting right there, on a shiny golden surface, is a card payment machine. The video then zooms in, clearly showing the device placed neatly at the front. On-screen text reads, “Gurdwara in England too advanced man.” Another line below adds a funny twist: “Imagine your card declines at matha take,” followed by a laughing emoji. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Amandeep Singh (@punjabimemeshq) Internet Reacts To The Modern Donation Setup Shared on August 29, the video has received over six lakh views and hundreds of comments from amused and impressed users. A user wrote, “Good initiative.” Another said, “This is so good! So many times you go to the Gurdwara and are looking for cash. They’ve had this at the Martindale Gurdwara in Hounslow, UK since 2019.” A person joked, “Great idea. Goes straight into the account, imagine having to carry sacksssss of coins to the bank lol.” Someone else added, “To be honest, it makes sense. Saves time going to the bank. That’s if you can even find a local branch open these days.” And one user couldn’t help but laugh, saying, “Just hope your card doesn’t decline.” A curious user asked, “Do people get to choose how much they want it to be?” while another wondered, “They take bitcoin?”

Aussie legend Greg Chappell pinpoints biggest flaw in plan for Marnus Labuschagne to open in Ashes

Legendary former captain Greg Chappell has called on Australia to pick a specialist opener for the Ashes instead of installing Marnus Labuschagne at the top. Jake Weatherald is pressing for a Test debut in Perth after a hot 18 months in the Sheffield Shield as a dashing opener for Tasmania. Australia are weighing up whether to keep allrounder Cameron Green at No.3, and have Labuschagne partner veteran Usman Khawaja as he did in the World Test Championship (WTC) final in June. Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today Dropped for the West Indies tour after the WTC defeat to South Africa, Labuschagne is a certainty to return after an outstanding start to the summer for Queensland. It is just a matter of where he bats and how much Australia decide to tinker with their XI. “I hope the powers that be know (what the team will be),” Chappell said on Tuesday. “Opening’s an important role and specialists generally have done better than people that have been press-ganged into the role. “Opening is a role that you need to want to do. “Most openers are pretty passionate about getting in there and batting first.” Chappell doesn’t buy the argument that No.3 batters can be batting early, anyway, so the role isn’t dramatically different from opening. The 87-Test star believes star first drop such as his older brother Ian and Ricky Ponting wouldn’t have been as successful had they opened. Chappell has also voiced his concerns about Australia’s ageing team, with Green the only member of the Ashes squad aged under 30. Even potential debutant Weatherald just turned 31. Watch the Ashes series live and free on Seven and 7plus Sport Chappell pointed to Travis Head as one player who got given a start early, now flourishing to be a three-format star. “If you’ve got guys knocking the door down, then it’s not so hard,” Chappell said of Australia’s transition to the next generation. “But when you look around domestic cricket over the last few years, it has been populated by a lot of older, experienced players. “But we’re seeing a bit of change on that front, and I think it’s quite exciting with some of the young talent that’s playing Sheffield Shield at the moment. “We might be looking forward to another really good era coming up. “There is nobody that’s ever been a Test-ready player straight out of domestic cricket. “Domestic cricket is where you identify yourself, and then if you’re selected, you get to find out whether you’re good enough.” Chappell was in Melbourne on Tuesday with England great Ian Botham to speak about the 150th anniversary Test that will be held at the MCG in March 2027. The match will be a day-night spectacle, with a ticket ballot to be launched for the first time in Australian cricket.

Jannik Sinner Opens ATP Finals Title Defense by Beating Auger-Aliassime

Turin: Jannik Sinner got his title defense at the ATP Finals off to a solid start before his home fans with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Felix Auger-Aliassime on Monday. To also claim the year-end No. 1 ranking. Sinner needs to win the season-ending event for the top eight players and hope Carlos Alcaraz doesn’t reach the final. No. 8-ranked Auger-Aliassime appeared slowed by a left calf issue and was twice treated by a trainer during the second set. Sinner won the title in Turin last year without dropping a set and hasn’t lost at the event since the 2023 final to Novak Djokovic. Sinner has also won all four of his meetings with Auger-Aliassime this year, including a U.S. Open semifinal and the recent Paris Masters final. Sinner and Alexander Zverev lead the Bjorn Borg group with one win each after Zverev beat Ben Shelton on Sunday. The top two finishers in each group advance to the semifinals. Fritz beats weary Musetti Earlier, Taylor Fritz beat late entry Lorenzo Musetti 6-3, 6-4. Unlike Musetti, who was making his debut, Fritz has pedigree in the tournament after reaching the final last year and the semifinals on debut in 2022. He'd also spent the past week preparing on the indoor court. “A very important one to win I would say if I want to make it out of the group,” Fritz said. “He plays quite different with the slices and everything. So it took me some time to get used to it. “I was able to avoid getting broken early in the match when he had some chances. Then I feel like I kind of got into the match more. … I thought I played really well." Musetti was a late replacement for Djokovic, who withdrew with an injured shoulder after beating the Italian in the Athens final on Saturday. Musetti arrived in Turin only on Sunday but couldn't ride his hometown crowd's support. “I couldn’t be at 100% in shape, especially physically,” Musetti said. “Mentally, I’m really glad that I’m here. I’m super proud of myself, of my team, of what we achieved. Today, I tried to fight with what I had." Fritz and Alcaraz lead the Jimmy Connors group with one win each, while De Minaur and Musetti trail with one loss each. On Tuesday, Fritz plays Alcaraz and Musetti plays Alex de Minaur.

$2.5M HIV drug donation from India strengthens treatment access for Fijians

Fiji’s fight against HIV and AIDS has received a major boost with the handover of life saving anti retroviral drugs valued at around $2.5 million from the Government of India. Minister for Health, Dr Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu says the donation comes at a crucial time, supporting the HIV Unit’s plan to expand treatment and prevention efforts as Fiji strengthens its national response to HIV. He says that as testing and screening increase, more cases are likely to be detected, making it essential for treatment services to expand in parallel. He also acknowledged the ongoing discussions between the Ministry of Health and the Indian High Commission regarding the 100-bed super-speciality hospital project, saying that the tender process is about to be completed and that construction will commence soon. He adds that Fiji is grateful to the Government of India for its continued support. Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, Suneet Mehta says the handover marks another milestone in the growing health cooperation between the two nations. He explained the consignment, which contains around three tonnes of ARV drugs, is a tangible outcome of the agreement reached during Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka’s visit to India in August last year. He says this shipment represents the largest consignment of HIV drugs India has donated to Fiji to date. Mehta reaffirmed India’s continued support for Fiji’s healthcare development, adding that the upcoming hospital project will further strengthen the relationship and benefit the people of Fiji.

Red Fort Blast Rocks Delhi: Security Tightened at Arun Jaitley Stadium Ahead of Ranji Trophy Clash

In the aftermath of a deadly blast that rocked Delhi’s Red Fort area on Monday evening, security has been significantly intensified at the Arun Jaitley Stadium ahead of Day 4 of the Ranji Trophy 2025 Group D match between Delhi and Jammu Kashmir. The explosion, which occurred just a few kilometres from the stadium, claimed at least eight lives and left more than twenty others injured, sending shockwaves across the national capital. Also Read: Who Will RCB Retain And Release Ahead Of The IPL 2026 Mega Auction?Officials confirmed that the high-intensity blast took place near Gate 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station when a vehicle slowed at a traffic light and exploded, igniting nearby cars and sparking chaos in one of Delhi’s busiest heritage zones. The timing of the explosion, coinciding with ongoing public events and sporting fixtures in the city, prompted an immediate response from law enforcement agencies and sports authorities.DDCA and Police Boost Vigilance at the StadiumFollowing the incident, Delhi District Cricket Association (DDCA) secretary Ashok Sharma confirmed that security has been “beefed up” at the stadium, formerly known as Feroz Shah Kotla Ground, to ensure the safety of players, officials, and spectators attending the Ranji encounter.“We are in constant touch with Delhi Police authorities and have requested the deployment of additional forces outside and around the stadium premises,” Sharma told PTI.Multiple checkpoints have been established at entry gates, and metal detectors, baggage scanners, and frisking stations have been reinforced. The Delhi Police have also stationed additional quick response teams (QRTs) and bomb disposal units in the vicinity, while patrolling has been intensified along Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and adjoining routes leading to the venue.Cricket Continues Amid Heightened TensionDespite the tension, the Ranji Trophy fixture between Delhi and Jammu Kashmir will proceed as scheduled under strict surveillance. The match, entering its decisive final day, has drawn local attention due to its competitive nature.Chasing a modest target of 179, Jammu Kashmir ended Day 3 at 55/2, with Qamran Iqbal (32)* and Vanshaj Sharma (0)* at the crease. The visitors require 124 more runs to seal what would be a memorable away victory. Delhi, on the other hand, will bank on their bowling attack to stage a comeback amid an emotionally charged atmosphere. For players and officials alike, the focus now lies on balancing professional commitment with personal safety, as security personnel maintain an unwavering watch across the stadium’s stands, dressing rooms, and media zones.Investigation Underway: Blast Not Linked to Earlier Terror ModuleAuthorities are still probing the cause of the explosion near the Red Fort. Preliminary reports suggest that the blast originated from a car rigged with high-intensity explosives. Earlier in the day, the Delhi Police’s Special Cell had dismantled an interstate terror module and seized over 2,900 kilograms of suspected ammonium nitrate, a key bomb-making material, from Faridabad. However, officials have clarified that the Red Fort blast is not directly linked to that operation. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and forensic teams are assisting local authorities in examining the scene, with efforts underway to identify the perpetrators behind what has been described as “a deliberate attempt to disrupt peace in the capital.”Cricketing Fraternity Expresses SolidarityProminent figures from Indian cricket expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives. India head coach Gautam Gambhir, who also represents East Delhi in Parliament, took to social media platform X to offer condolences:“Saddened by the loss of lives due to the blast in Delhi. Praying for strength to the families of the deceased and a speedy recovery to the injured.”Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan also reacted, writing, “Deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives in the Delhi car blast near Red Fort. My prayers are with the victims and their families. Let’s all stay safe and alert.”Public Events Under Tight WatchThe explosion has cast a shadow over Delhi’s bustling calendar of public and sporting events. With the Arun Jaitley Stadium located barely 3 km from the blast site, authorities are taking no chances. Enhanced vigilance is expected to continue throughout the week, particularly as Delhi prepares to host several domestic and international fixtures in the coming months. While the Ranji Trophy match continues under heavy protection, the incident serves as a sobering reminder of the persistent security challenges in metropolitan areas. For now, the focus remains on ensuring safety — both on and off the field — as Delhi unites in resilience after a day of tragedy.

Esha Deol refutes Dharmendra’s death news, says actor is recovering

Amid circulating rumours about veteran actor Dharmendra's death, his daughter Esha Deol has confirmed that the reports are untrue. The 89-year-old star, who was recently hospitalised at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital due to health issues, is alive and recovering. Esha Deol assured fans that her father's condition is stable and requested everyone to ignore the false rumours spreading online. Family members, including Sunny and Bobby Deol, have been frequently visiting him at the hospital, though an official medical statement has not yet been issued. View this post on Instagram A post shared by ESHA DEOL (@imeshadeol) Affectionately called Bollywood's original "He-Man," Dharmendra transformed the idea of stardom in Indian cinema with his charisma, versatility, and commanding screen presence. Over a remarkable career spanning more than six decades, he delivered some of Hindi cinema's most iconic films. Making his debut with "Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere" (1960), he quickly rose to prominence as one of the leading actors of his era. From the romantic dramas "Anupama" (1966) and "Bandini" (1963) to action blockbusters like "Sholay" (1975), "Dharam Veer" (1977), "Mera Gaon Mera Desh" (1971), and the timeless comedy "Chupke Chupke" (1971), Dharmendra's remarkable versatility made him a true legend of Indian cinema. Through the years, Dharmendra has been more than just a superstar—he has stood as a symbol of strength, humility, and resilience. Even today, he continues to captivate audiences with his warmth and enduring charm. Alan Jones set to face mammoth four-month court trial for sex abuse charges next year

A mammoth sex abuse hearing against Alan Jones has been locked in despite claims the radio host was kept in the dark about the police investigation against him. The 84-year-old faces 25 charges of indecent assault and two of sexual touching against nine alleged victims. There were 139 prosecution witnesses in the case, crown prosecutor Emma Curran told Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday. Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today Efforts to reduce these numbers had stalled because Jones would not say which senior counsel he had briefed, she told Magistrate Glenn Walsh. Defence solicitor Bryan Wrench said his client would also call his own witnesses, saying “we believe there is an iceberg of exculpatory material”. Jones’ legal team has asked prosecutors to reconsider a decision made in September to hold the lengthy hearing in the Local Court instead of before a District Court jury. The radio host, who denies the charges, was charged after an investigation by Sydney Morning Herald journalist Kate McClymont in 2023. McClymont had declined to provide notes of her investigation or interviews with witnesses to Jones’ defence team, Wrench said on Tuesday. Journalists often speak with sources under strict confidence and are not automatically required to divulge information to defence lawyers. Wrench also said police had refused to confirm whether their investigation against the former radio host was complete. Without these details, Jones did not know the case he was meant to answer and may not be ready for a hearing in the second half of 2026, Wrench told the court. “Whilst he’s been deprived of a jury trial, we don’t want to deprive Mr Jones of a fair hearing in this court.” The magistrate tersely shut down the solicitor’s submissions, setting down dates for hearing. The hearing will start on August 3 and could run until December. The case will return to court on November 20 for further management. Wrench did not speak to reporters outside court. Jones had faced allegations of historical sex offences against 11 individuals — the youngest of whom was then aged 17 — until prosecutors reconfigured their case in September. Claims involving two alleged victims were dropped and accusations the conduct was aggravated or that Jones held power or authority over his alleged victims were withdrawn. The former radio shock jock has pleaded not guilty to all charges. The remaining allegations against Jones suggest a pattern of indecent assaults between 2003 and 2020. Jones’ sexual misconduct is alleged to have occurred behind closed doors as well as in public spaces such as restaurants, the Sydney Opera House and when two of the complainants were driving him around. The 84-year-old was arrested in November 2024 after an eight-month police investigation. The charges, which he has claimed are “all either baseless or they distort the truth”, followed a hugely influential broadcasting career launched in 1985. Jones became a feared interviewer who excelled at questioning leaders while dividing audiences with his outspoken views. He worked with Sydney radio station 2UE before joining rival 2GB, where he was a long-time ratings juggernaut until 2020. Alongside a failed tilts at politics, he also coached the Australian national men’s rugby union team through some historic achievements between 1984 and 1988. 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732) National Sexual Abuse and Redress Support Service 1800 211 028
