October CPI Inflation Bears Testimony To GST Rate Cut Benefits; Will It Give RBI More Headroom To Continue With A Soft Monetary Policy?

New Delhi: Indias inflation rate based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) declined further to 0.25 per cent in October as the impact of the GST rate cut brought down the prices of goods and services during the month, according to figures released by the Ministry of Statistics on Wednesday. The retail inflation eased further, after having plummeted to an over 8-year low of 1.54 per cent in September, as prices of food items and goods across sectors fell during the month. The declining trend in food prices continued in October as food inflation fell deeper in the negative zone at (-) 5.02 per cent from (-) 2.28 per cent in September. Food inflation has now continued to stay negative for the fifth consecutive month, bringing welcome relief to household budgets. The decline in headline inflation and food inflation during October is mainly attributed to the full month’s impact of the decline in GST, favourable base effect, and to drop in inflation of cooking oils, vegetables, fruits, egg, cereals, footwear and transport and communication, an official statement said. The GST rate cuts, which kicked in on September 22, are bringing down prices across goods, leading to a further reduction in the inflation rate. The inflation outlook for 2025-26 has also become more benign due to large favourable base effects combined with the good southwest monsoon, healthy kharif sowing, adequate reservoir levels, and comfortable buffer stocks of foodgrains. The decline in the inflation rate gives the RBI more headroom to continue with a soft money policy by cutting interest rates and injecting more money into the economy to spur growth. The RBI’s monetary policy committee (MPC) on October 1 slashed its forecast for India’s inflation rate for the financial year 2025-26 to 2.6 per cent from 3.1 per cent in August, primarily on account of the GST rate cuts and benign food prices.RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra had said: The recently implemented GST rate rationalisation would lead to a reduction in prices of several items in the CPI basket. Overall, the inflation outcome is likely to be softer than what was projected in the August monetary policy committee resolution, primarily on account of the GST rate cuts and benign food prices.Addressing journalists after the MPC meeting, he said that the overall inflation outlook has turned even more benign in the last few months.Malhotra said that the average headline inflation for 2025-26 is now revised lower from 3.7 per cent and 3.1 per cent projected in the June and August policy, respectively, to 2.6 per cent. Headline inflation for Q4:2025-26 and Q1:2026-27 too have been revised downwards and are broadly aligned with the target, despite unfavourable base effects. Core inflation for this year and Q1:2026-27 is also expected to remain contained. The RBI Governor pointed out that headline CPI inflation declined to its eight-year low of 1.6 per cent year-on-year in July 2025 before rising to 2.1 per cent in August – its first increase after nine months. Benign inflation conditions during 2025-26 so far have been primarily driven by a sharp decline in food inflation from its peak in October 2024.Inflation within the fuel group moved in a narrow range of 2.4-2.7 per cent during June-August. Core inflation remained largely contained at 4.2 per cent in August. Excluding precious metals, core inflation was at 3.0 per cent in August. The RBI Governor further stated that the current macroeconomic conditions and the outlook have opened up policy space for further supporting growth.

J&K Police raid 13 locations in Kashmir in connection with Delhi blast

Srinagar, Nov 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Counter-Intelligence Wing, Kashmir (CIK) of J&K Police on Thursday raided 13 locations across the Valley in connection with the Delhi terror blast. Officials said that simultaneous raids are being carried out against the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) organisation in different parts of Kashmir after the Delhi blast in which a local doctor, Mohd Umar, was involved. He belonged to the Pulwama district. Meanwhile, the DNA of the mother has matched with Dr Mohd Umar, confirming his identity. He was on the run after the J&K Police, in coordination with the Haryana Police, busted a terror module in Faridabad. Dr Mohd Umar escaped arrest after his terror associates, Dr Adil of Kulgam district and Dr Muzammil Ganai of his native village, Koil in Pulwama district, were arrested. A woman doctor from Lucknow, Dr Shaheen Shahid, also working with Dr Mohd Umar and others in Al-Falah Medical College in Faridabad, was arrested after an assault rifle was recovered from her car. Lucknow police on Wednesday detained her brother for questioning. Dr Adil was caught after CCTV footage showed him putting up posters of the terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM). One AK-47 rifle was recovered from Aadil’s locker in the Government Medical College, Anantnag, where he had left his job in October 2024. His disclosure led to the arrest of Dr Muzammil Ganai, also working at Al-Falah Medical College. Over 2,900 kg of ammonium nitrate were recovered from Muzamil by the J&K Police in Faridabad. The Union Home Ministry (MHA) has handed over the investigation of the Delhi terror blast to the NIA. The worrying discovery of white collar terrorism involving professionals like doctors has added a new dimension to terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir. The busting of the terror module run by doctors has vindicated the decision of Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, who has terminated many government employees for terror links in the UT. Ironically, the L-G's decision to terminate the services of government employees with terror links had been criticised by various political parties, including the National Conference (NC) presently in power in the union territory. CBI arrests bank manager in Mumbai for helping to open mule accounts in 'digital arrest' fraud

p>Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested the manager of a private bank in Mumbai for his active role in facilitating opening of mule accounts in a larger digital arrest cybercrime case.Investigation revealed that the arrested bank official, in collusion with cybercriminals, accepted illegal gratification and by abusing his official position had processed the account opening forms and thereby created channels for the movement and layering of cybercrime proceeds. Investigation has also established that these accounts were actively used in multiple cybercrimes, including cases of digital arrest frauds..Banks to use AI based system to detect 'mule' accounts.“A case for offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act and BNS was registered against him. The accused was produced before the competent court in Mumbai and remanded to CBI s custody for further interrogation,” CBI officials said. Two cybercriminals who paid the illegal gratification to the bank manager have also been named in the FIR as accused for committing offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act relating to the giving of bribes to a public servant. Both individuals had already been arrested by the CBI in connection with the investigations in an ongoing digital arrest cybercrime case. “Material collected during the investigation indicates a wider pattern of organized cybercrime networks exploiting the banking systems by opening mule accounts to layer the proceeds of cyber fraud amounts stolen from innocent citizens. US knew Israeli officials discussed use of human shields in Gaza: Report  - Bahamas Spectator – Bahamas

The United States had evidence last year that Israeli officials discussed how their soldiers sent Palestinians into tunnels in Gaza that the Israelis believed were potentially lined with explosives, two former US officials have told the Reuters news agency. The information was shared with the White House and analysed by the intelligence community in the final weeks of former President Joe Biden’s administration, the officials said. International law prohibits the use of civilians as shields during military activity. Israel’s use of Palestinians as human shields in Gaza and the occupied West Bank has been documented on multiple occasions, but Wednesday’s Reuters report is a rare acknowledgement that Washington collected its own evidence on the subject. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive national security information, did not provide details on whether the Palestinians referenced in the intelligence were prisoners or civilians. Reuters could not determine whether the Biden administration discussed the intelligence with the Israeli government. Responding to the report, the Israeli military said in a statement that it “prohibits the use of civilians as human shields or coercing them in any way to participate in military operations”. It added that the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division is investigating “suspicions involving Palestinians in military missions”. In May this year, seven Palestinians who had been used as human shields in Gaza, as well as the occupied West Bank, shared testimonies in a report published by The Associated Press. In June 2024, video footage verified by Al Jazeera showed Israeli soldiers tied a wounded Palestinian man, Mujahed Azmi, to the front of a military jeep and drove him past two ambulances during a raid on the city of Jenin, in the occupied West Bank. The Israeli military claimed at the time that the soldiers involved violated protocol, while a US State Department spokesperson described reports and video of the incident as “disturbing” and “a clear violation” of Israel’s “orders and procedures”. Israel was questioned at the United Nations on Tuesday and Wednesday over multiple reports alleging the torture of Palestinian detainees, in particular since the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023. “The committee has been deeply appalled by the description we have received, in a large number of alternative reports, of what appears to be systematic and widespread torture and ill-treatment of Palestinians, including children,” the body’s rapporteur, Peter Vedel Kessing, said. Twenty-eight Israeli officials appeared in front of a panel of 10 UN experts on torture in Geneva. The experts asked the Israeli team: “Does Israel have a law against torture?” The answer from the Israeli delegation was no. “Does Israel apply the agreements it has signed against torture in Gaza and the West Bank?” the question continued, to which the answer was also no. The committee confronted Israel with multiple reports and a long list of violations against Palestinians. The Israeli delegation denied most of them. In some instances, the delegation said, soldiers had acted in “self-defence”. Israel has repeatedly been accused of using torture during its two-year war on Gaza. In one instance, a video leaked from its infamous Sde Teiman military prison appeared to show Israeli soldiers raping a Palestinian detainee. In addition, dozens of dead bodies of Palestinian detainees that have been returned to Gaza since the start of a ceasefire have exhibited signs of torture. The UN Committee Against Torture will issue a non-binding summary of its findings on the allegations against Israel at the end of November.

Federal agencies tell staff to return to work on Thursday as government reopens

Multiple federal agencies have told their employees to report to work on Thursday, according to three administration officials. The directive came before President Donald Trump signed a short-term funding bill Wednesday night. Government workers at the Health and Human Services Department, Department of the Interior, Housing and Urban Development Department, and Department of Justice were all advised to come in on Thursday, regardless of when the measure was signed. One of the emails referred to the funding lapse as the “Democratic shutdown,” continuing a trend of partisan language on display from various agencies leading up to and during the government’s closure. The Republican-controlled House on Wednesday night approved legislation in a 222 to 209 vote to reopen the government after 43 days, the longest shutdown in American history. Six Democrats joined nearly all Republicans in favor of the measure, while two Republicans joined a vast majority of Democrats in opposing it. The bill reinstates thousands of government employees who were laid off during the shutdown which began on Oct. 1, secures back pay, and protects against additional reductions-in-force through the end of January. It’s unclear when furloughed workers will get their back pay or how fast paychecks might resume. NBC News has reached out to the Office of Management and Budget for details.

Delhi blast: Diary, notebook found in Al Falah University rooms of Muzammil, Umar reveal terror plot details

New Delhi, Nov 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) A diary and notebook recovered from Dr Muzammil’s and Dr Umar Mohammad's room in Al Falah University have revealed crucial details about the planning of a terror attack. Investigators believe the terrorists had been conspiring for quite some time as part of a larger, well-coordinated plan. According to investigating agencies, diaries belonging to Dr Umar Mohammad and Dr Muzammil have been seized and are expected to answer several key questions related to the Delhi Red Fort blast. The diaries were recovered on Tuesday and Wednesday from Dr Umar’s room number 4 and Dr Muzammil’s room number 13. Police also recovered a diary from Muzammil’s room, where 360 kg of explosives were earlier found in Dhauj, Faridabad, about 300 meters from Al Falah University. Investigators said the recovered diaries and notebooks contain coded words and references to dates between November 8 and 12, suggesting ongoing planning during that period. The documents also list the names of around 25 individuals, mostly from Jammu and Kashmir and Faridabad. The matter remains under active police investigation. Meanwhile, investigators have also confirmed that Dr Umar Mohammad, a senior doctor at Al Falah University in Faridabad, was driving the i20 car that exploded near the Red Fort on November 10, killing 12 people and injuring many others. According to Delhi Police sources, DNA test results conclusively established Umar’s identity. His DNA sample matched 100 per cent with that of his mother and brother, leaving no doubt about his presence in the vehicle at the time of the explosion. The DNA was extracted from bone fragments, teeth, and pieces of clothing recovered from inside the mangled remains of the i20. The powerful explosion took place at around 6.52 p.m. on November 10, sending shockwaves across the national capital and sparking immediate security alerts. The blast occurred close to one of India’s most iconic monuments, raising alarm over the breach in the high-security zone surrounding the Red Fort. In the aftermath of the incident, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has officially taken over the probe from the Delhi Police’s Special Cell. NIA officials have cordoned off the area and are conducting forensic examinations of the debris, including explosive residues, vehicle components, and digital evidence. Preliminary findings suggest that the car was rigged with high-grade improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Investigators are now tracing the origin of the explosives and attempting to map Umar’s movements in the days leading up to the blast. Sources also revealed that Umar had left his Faridabad residence earlier that day, informing colleagues that he was attending a personal engagement in Delhi. Authorities are examining whether he acted alone or in coordination with a larger network. The blast on November 10 came hours after the Jammu and Kashmir Police recovered nearly 3,000 kg of explosives from two residential buildings in Faridabad in Haryana. Source: IANS

Sensex, Nifty open marginally lower amid mixed global cues

Mumbai, Nov 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Indian benchmark indices opened in mild red zone on Thursday, amid mixed global cues and persistent selling by foreign institutional investors (FIIs). As of 9.25 am, Sensex declined 68 points, or 0.08 per cent at 84,398 and Nifty dipped 15 points, or 0.05 per cent to 25,860. The broadcap indices performed in line with the benchmarks, with the Nifty Midcap 100 down 0.13 per cent and the Nifty Smallcap 100 dipped 0.27 per cent. Tata Steel, Hindalco and Dr Reddy's Labs were among the major gainers in the Nifty Pack, while losers included Bajaj Finance, Apollo Hospitals, Shriram Finance and TCS. All the sectoral indices were trading in green except FMCG (down 0.78 per cent), IT and private bank. Nifty Metal was the standout gainer up 1.52 per cent. A possible India-US trade deal that removes penal tariffs and reduces reciprocal tariffs is an important economic factor that should be watched for, said analysts. The decline in October retail inflation in India to 0.25 per cent indicates the possibility of a rate cut from the RBI MPC in December. But the monetary policy transmission turning weak has become a challenge for the RBI, they added. Analysts placed immediate resistance for Nifty at 25,950, followed by 26,000, and support at 25,700 and 25,750 zones. Most of the Asia-Pacific markets rose in early trading sessions after US House of Representatives passed a short-term funding bill to end the longest federal shutdown on record. The US markets ended in green zone overnight as the S&P 500 added 0.06 per cent, and the Dow inched up 0.68 per cent. However, Nasdaq continued its decline, slipping 0.26 per cent. In Asian markets, China's Shanghai index added 0.3 per cent, and Shenzhen inched up 1.62 per cent, Japan's Nikkei advanced 0.2 per cent, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index eased 0.45 per cent. South Korea's Kospi declined 0.17 per cent. On Wednesday, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold equities worth Rs 1,150 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers of equities worth Rs 5,127 crore. Source: IANS

Windsor Castle Hotel owners who sold for $27m buy $14m artist pad

A couple who sold a former popular pub for a suburb record-breaking price have bought a well-known artist’s long-time home for $14m. Records show that Shakman, once a textile designer with clients that included Carla Zampatti and Sportsgirl who became and award-winning painter, had bought the historic 1835 gem for $550k in 1992. The Nolans are no doubt intending to renovate. It also features a separate, street-facing building “for retail ventures”. The property had also been on the market in January but it failed to sell. Ian Thorpe lists Woollahra apartment

Nashik Municipal Corporation to issue Rs 400 crore Bonds for Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027

Nashik, Nov 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Nashik Municipal Corporation in Maharashtra will issue bonds worth Rs 400 crore to arrange its 25 per cent share of funding for various projects related to the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027. This includes Rs 200 crore in Clean Godavari Municipal Bonds and Rs 200 crore in Green Bonds for water supply schemes. The formal announcement was made by Nashik Municipal Commissioner Manisha Khatri on Wednesday, a day before the Deputy Chief Minister and urban development minister Eknath Shinde’s visit on Thursday to launch a slew of projects for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027. Khatri said, “The proceeds of the Rs 200 crore Clean Godavari Municipal Bonds will be used for sewage treatment plants to maintain the cleanliness of the Godavari River and Ramkund area, while the Rs 200 crore Green Bonds are proposed for water supply schemes. The Clean Godavari bonds will be launched in the market by the end of this month.” By raising capital through this method, the corporation will receive incentive amounts of approximately Rs 76 crore per bond from the AMRUT Incentive Award and Urban Challenge Fund. The amount received will cover the interest that would need to be paid on the bonds over five to seven years. This means it will essentially be interest-free borrowing, said Khatri. She further stated that this will save government funds while benefiting the municipal corporation. For projects like truck terminals and exhibition centres, a public-private partnership model will be adopted. The Nashik Municipal Corporation’s move to issue Rs 400 crore bonds is crucial as it has submitted a development plan worth approximately Rs 15,000 crore to the state government for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela to be held on the banks of the Godavari River in 2027. The corporation has received approvals for long-duration projects, but it will have to contribute 25 per cent of the total cost. Considering permanent infrastructure projects, this amount is estimated to be around Rs 1,000 crore, said Khatri. She recalled that during the previous Kumbh Mela, the corporation had to borrow Rs 350 crore to arrange funds. Earlier, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed that all infrastructure works for the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela should be completed with quality and speed, as the Kumbh Mela is a symbol of faith and cultural and religious tradition. He also asked the administration to complete the work of the new ring road in Nashik at any cost, and the land acquisition work for Sadhu Village/Tent City should also be completed expeditiously. He was speaking at the review meeting of the Nashik-Triambakeshwar Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027. CM Fadnavis said that since the Simhastha Kumbh Mela is a symbol of religious faith, water in the Ramkund and the riverbed will be kept clean throughout the entire Kumbh Mela period. Make sure it stays clean. Sewage works should be undertaken and completed on priority. At the airports and railways, the work of providing various facilities should also be completed at a fast pace. “The work on the new ring road in Nashik should be completed immediately. Delay in this work will not be tolerated. For this, the concerned departments should immediately approve the necessary funds. Other road works should also be undertaken immediately. Due to incomplete work the attention should be paid to ensuring that citizens are not inconvenienced. Facilities should be provided in Sadhugram as per their needs after discussing with various akharas,” the CM added. The chief minister said the CCTV camera system should be created in a centralised manner. To maintain law and order, various options of 'AI' should be used, and the arrangements for police accommodation should be made on priority, he further said. Source: IANS
