Larry Summers steps back from public roles after Epstein revelations

Former US Treasury Secretary Larry Summers said on Monday he will step back from all public commitments, days after President Donald Trump ordered the Justice Department to investigate his and other prominent Democrats' ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Summers, a former president of Harvard University, where he is a professor, told the university's student newspaper that the move was to allow him "to rebuild trust and repair relationships with the people closest to me." The announcement came after the House Oversight Committee released thousands of files related to Epstein last week, including documents that showed personal correspondence between Summers and Epstein. "I am deeply ashamed of my actions and recognise the pain they have caused. I take full responsibility for my misguided decision to continue communicating with Mr Epstein,” Summers told The Crimson. Read moreIn newly released emails, Epstein suggests Donald Trump knew 'about the girls' "While continuing to fulfil my teaching obligations, I will be stepping back from public commitments as one part of my broader effort," Summers added. Summers, a Democrat, served as former President Bill Clinton's Treasury Secretary and former President Barack Obama's National Economic Council director. He currently serves on the board of OpenAI and as a director of the Harvard Kennedy School’s Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government. OpenAI and Harvard did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Summers also did not immediately respond. The Epstein scandal has been a political thorn in Trump’s side for months, partly because he amplified conspiracy theories about Epstein to his own supporters. Many Trump voters believe Bondi and other Trump officials have covered up Epstein’s ties to powerful figures and obscured details surrounding his death by suicide in a Manhattan jail in 2019. The US House of Representatives will vote on Tuesday on forcing the release of investigative Epstein files after Trump, who had initially opposed the vote, called on fellow Republicans to support it. The Designer Who Presented the iPhone Air to the World Has Left Apple, Report Says

You don’t always get to know the real reason someone leaves their job—not even the guy in the video below, Abidur Chowdhury, an Apple industrial designer who played a “key role” in developing the iPhone Air, and acted as its spokesman when it was introduced, but who has, according to Bloomberg, left Apple for an AI startup. With that in mind, the Information reported a little over a week ago that the iPhone Air is such a flop that Apple has delayed rolling out the next model. (Bloomberg’s story on Chowdhury notes that a second iPhone Air will still happen, but not until 2027) Gizmodo’s largely positive review of the device found it too lightweight for its own good, with less-than-ideal battery life, and noted that if it “ends up going the way of the dodo like the iPhone Mini and Plus,” it might turn out to be a “testbed for miniaturizing components into a smart glasses form factor” and may include components of a foldable iPhone still to come. Bloomberg’s story on Chowdhury’s departure (attributed to anonymous “people familiar with the move”) is from Bloomberg’s intrepid Apple scoop-getter, Mark Gurman, who has hastened to imply that he does not think the iPhone Air is some sort of corporate disaster that merits Chowdhury being forced out. “His exit is unrelated to the debut of the phone, which has seen its design praised despite underwhelming sales,” Gurman tweeted. His exit is unrelated to the debut of the phone, which has seen its design praised despite underwhelming sales. https://t.co/sw2mtOGs58 — Mark Gurman (@markgurman) November 18, 2025 Chowdhury joined Apple in 2019, around the same time celebrity chief design officer Jony Ive departed the company. According to reports, that period would have coincided with the company’s attempts to recover from the slow-motion meltdown that ensued when Ive seemingly lost his faith in Apple due to disagreements over what the Apple Watch was supposed to be, and then mostly stopped coming to work, and let his department basically atrophy. According to Gurman, Chowdhury’s resignation “made waves internally, given his rising profile within the design team.”

Exclusive: Delhi Bomber Dr Umar Advocates For Suicide Bombing In Video Shot Before Terror Attack

A new video recorded by the Delhi car blast main accused and suicide bomber, Dr. Umar Nabi, who was driving the i20 car that was used as a 'vehicle-borne IED' in the terror attack, has come to the fore. The video is believed to have been recorded shortly before the November 10 Delhi car blast that claimed 15 lives and injured dozens. The video is a crucial new piece of evidence for the investigating agencies probing the Delhi car bombing as it shows Umar openly supporting suicide bombings and discussing extremist ideology. Investigators believe it reflects his deep radicalisation and long-standing planning for such an attack. Umar’s Message On Suicide Bombing In the video, Umar can be seen addressing the idea of suicide attacks and how the concept is "misunderstood". He described that suicide bombing is a matrydom operation when someone assumes they will die at a certain time and place and go against natural death. "The biggest mistake is that people don't understand what Liberia bombing (or the idea of suicide bombing) really is. It is not democratic in any way, nor can it be accepted in any civilized society. There are many contradictions and numerous arguments against it,” Dr. Umar Nabi said. He further continued that the "biggest issue with suicide attacks is that when a person believes that they are definitely going to die at a certain time and place, they enter a dangerous mindset. Martyrdom operation is when they put themselves in a position where they believe that death is their only destination." “But the reality is that such thinking or such a situation cannot be accepted in any democratic and humane system, because it is against the basic principles of life, society and law,” he added. Mother Confirms Son’s Radicalisation According to sources, Umar’s mother told investigators she had long suspected her son was becoming radicalized. She said he often went days without contacting the family and, shortly before the incident, specifically asked them not to call him. Despite noticing these changes, the family never approached police about his behaviour. Police identified Umar as a resident of Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir. A trained doctor employed at the Al Falah University in Faridabad, he had been secretly working with a Jaish-e-Mohammed-linked module. Before the Delhi blast, authorities had already arrested several of his associates and also recovered nearly 2,900 kilograms of explosives, which suggested they were preparing for a much larger and coordinated attack. Nabi had known links with a white-collar terror module that was busted following the recovery of explosives, primarily from Faridabad in Haryana on November 10. Meanwhile, the NIA on Sunday announced the arrest of Amir Rashid Ali in whose name the explosive-laden i20 involved in the blast was registered. Ali, also a resident of Kashmir, was arrested from Delhi in the first arrest by the NIA and sent to a 10-day custody. The NIA has also described Nabi as a suicide bomber.

ED Raids Al-Falah University Amid Probe Into Terror Funding

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is carrying out searches at 25 locations in Delhi and Faridabad linked to the terror-tainted Al-Falah University and individuals associated with it, as part of its investigation into the 10 November Red Fort blast. PMLA Case Registered Over Financial Irregularities The agency has registered a PMLA case concerning financial irregularities involving the university, where Red Fort bomber Dr Umar un Nabi and others accused in the Jaish-e-Mohammad-linked Faridabad terror module were employed, along with the institute’s owners. University Headquarters Among Premises Searched Raids are underway at the university’s Delhi headquarters. The ED began search operations at 5 AM, targeting trustees, related persons and entities. By 5:15 AM, officials had launched a coordinated action across more than 25 premises connected to the Al-Falah group in the Delhi–NCR region. The searches form part of a broader investigation into suspected financial misconduct, the use of shell and accommodation companies, and alleged money laundering. #WATCH | Delhi terror blast case: Raid by a central agency underway at the Okhla (Delhi) office of Al-Falah University located in Faridabad, HaryanaMore details are awaited pic.twitter.com/rWrJUyCFQv — ANI (@ANI) November 18, 2025 FIRs Filed After UGC Complaint The ED’s action follows two FIRs registered by the Delhi Police against Al-Falah University, whose Association of Indian Universities (AIU) membership has already been revoked following revelations about links to the terror module. One FIR involves allegations of cheating; the second concerns forgery-related offences. Summons Issued to University Chairman On Monday, police issued two summonses to university chairman Javed Ahmad Siddiqui in connection with the FIRs, both filed on the basis of a complaint from the University Grants Commission (UGC). Investigators said Siddiqui’s statement is essential to clarify several inconsistencies regarding the university’s functioning and the activities of individuals linked to it. Relative of Chancellor Arrested in Separate Case Meanwhile, the chancellor’s younger brother, Hamood Ahmad Siddiqui, was arrested in Hyderabad on Monday in relation to a nearly 25-year-old fraud case in Madhya Pradesh. Institution at Centre of Blast-Plot Allegations Al-Falah University has emerged as the focal point of the Red Fort blast investigation, with officials believing that the planning of the high-intensity explosion — which killed 13 people and injured more than 20 — was carried out on its premises.

Notable update emerges about Kyrie Irving’s recovery

Kyrie Irving may be poised to lace up his sneakers this season, even despite the Dallas Mavericks’ flat start. The injured Mavericks star Irving is ahead of his schedule in his recovery from a torn ACL, Marc J. Spears of ESPN said Monday during an appearance on “NBA Today.” Spears even went so far to say that Irving could play “right now” if Dallas was in the postseason. “He’s working out with the purpose of playing this season,” said Spears of Irving, per Mike Curtis of the Dallas Morning News. “Someone close to him told me if it was the playoffs, he could play right now.” Irving, the nine-time NBA All-Star, suffered a torn ACL in his left knee during a game last season in early March. ACL tears are roughly 9-12 month injuries on average, and Irving is roughly at the eight-and-a-half-month point of his recovery. That said, the Mavericks are down in the dumps right now and have started the season at a miserable 4-10 on the year. If Dallas does not quickly get into the playoff picture in a brutal Western Conference, there will not be much reason for them to rush back Irving, who will be turning 34 years old in a few months. Over the summer, Irving sounded a bit more pessimistic about the potential of a return this season. But over the span of the few months since then, it appears that the former No. 1 overall pick has made some tangible progress in his recovery (though Irving’s ultimate return will likely be tied directly to the Mavericks’ place in the standings).

18 Family Members From 3 Generations Killed In Saudi Bus Crash

As many as 18 members of a single family from Hyderabad, spanning three generations, were killed in the devastating road accident in Saudi Arabia that claimed the lives of at least 45 Indian pligrims. The victims were travelling to Madina after performing Umrah, when their bus collided with an oil tanker and caught fire in the early hours of Monday. Shaik Nazeeruddin, a retired railway employee, was among those aboard the ill-fated bus. He was traveling with his wife, son, three daughters, and grandchildren, said his nephew Mohammed Aslam. “Whether it was an accident or what happened, we do not know, but 18 members, Shaik Nazeeruddin, his son, daughters, and grandchildren, were in the bus,” Aslam told PTI. He added that another of Nazeeruddin’s sons is currently in the United States. Aslam urged authorities to conduct a full inquiry into the tragedy and scrutinize the travel agency that arranged the group’s pilgrimage. At Nazeeruddin’s home in Ramnagar, heartbreaking scenes unfolded as relatives gathered to mourn. “My sister-in-law, brother-in-law, their son, three daughters, and their children went for Umrah. They left eight days ago. The Umrah was done, and they were returning to Medina. Around 1:30 a.m., the accident occurred, and the bus was destroyed in the fire. They were supposed to return on Saturday,” said Mohammed Asif, another family member, told NDTV. “Eighteen members of one family, nine adults and nine children, have died. It is a terrible tragedy for us,” he said. Asif identified his late relatives as Nazeeruddin (70), his wife Akhter Begum (62), son Salauddin (42), daughters Amina (44), Rizwana (38), and Shabana (40), along with their children. When Nazeeruddin’s sister arrived, she broke down, crying, “My brother’s entire family has been wiped out.” Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar confirmed preliminary information indicating that at least 45 Indian pilgrims, most of them from Hyderabad, had died in the crash. However, as of Monday evening, neither Saudi authorities nor the Indian government had formally confirmed casualty figures. Meanwhile, the Indian consulate has set up a control room in Consulate General of India, Jeddah and a helpline has also been issued after the bus crash.

Comets put it on SAC

The rivalry between the Queen's College Comets and the St. Augustine's College (SAC) Big Red Machine was in full display on Monday night, and this time, it would be the Comets coming out on top. The Comets are back-to-back senior boys baseball champions in the Bahamas Association of Independent Secondary Schools (BAISS), winning the first two baseball titles ever in that school body. They did it in thrilling fashion, defeating SAC, 10-7, at the Andre Rodgers National Baseball Stadium on Monday night. QC won the series two games to one, reigning supreme as the only senior boys baseball champion in the BAISS, as the sport was just introduced in the private schools sector in New Providence last year. "It's a thrill to win the first two titles," said Comets' Head Coach Willard Elliott. "We fought hard, and we came out on top. Credit to SAC for giving us a fight, but my boys just wanted it more. It feels good, and next year, we are going for three in a row." There is no Most Valuable Player (MVP), but the Comets need to look no further than ace pitcher Austin Cartwright, who was certainly the most impactful player in the series. Cartwright won two of the three games in the series, including going all seven innings last night to lead the Comets to victory. He gave up just five hits and struck out 10 batters Monday night. With the Big Red Machine mounting a comeback in the bottom of the seventh, Cartwright sent the pennant winners home by striking out the final two batters of the game. "It feels awesome. I'm happy with the win, but I feel like I could have done a bit better," said Cartwright. "I feel like I shouldn't have given up as many hits as I did, but we pulled it off, so I'm thankful for that." Cartwright was masterful, and he was the first to give credit to his team for backing him up. His battery mate was his twin brother Blake, and collectively, they didn't yield a single wild pitch - something that plagued the Comets in the first game of the series last week Wednesday. Offensively for the Comets, Kamron Henfield got on base four times and scored three runs. Winning pitcher Austin Cartwright led off for them, and scored twice. Batting near the bottom of the lineup, Denard Gray also scored twice for the Comets. Carmelo Woodside started the game from the mound for SAC and suffered the loss. Neil Laing came on in relief and struggled to find the strike zone. Nathan Marshall pitched the seventh inning for SAC, and worked out of a bases loaded jam with no outs by fanning the last two batters he faced, but it was too little too late for them. Cartwright went back to work in the bottom of the seventh for QC, and after walking two batters and giving up an infield hit, he induced a fly ball to right field and struck out the final two batters he faced. "I wasn't getting tired at all," said Cartwright after pitching all seven innings. "I just feel like I wasn't getting some of the calls that I should have gotten. That's how it goes sometimes. I'm just glad I was able to settle down when I needed to and get the outs when I needed to." Comets' Head Coach Elliott had nothing but praise for his workhorse winning pitcher. "He's the MVP for us without a shadow of a doubt," said Elliott. "He led us tonight, and we followed. I just told them I needed 100 percent effort, and once they did that, we would be all right. Our problem all year was we weren't hitting and we were making too many errors. We're coming back next year for three in a row. You have to come through us again." SAC's top two batters Neil Gibson and Kaylin Ferguson scored twice each for them. They also big hits from Woodside, clean-up batter Nicholas Fox and Jude Taylor. "We had some miscues and a couple errors that really caused us," said SAC's Head Coach Geno Nairn. "We fought hard. Last year, we weren't in the playoffs and this year we made it to the last game of the season. We came a long way, and I'm proud of the boys. We'll be back next year. Congratulations to the Comets. I think our batters were a little anxious. We out-hit QC, but errors and being too anxious at the plate caused us. That's baseball and we'll bounce back." The Comets got on the scoreboard first, scoring twice in the top of the first inning. After SAC bounced back with two runs in the bottom of the first, the Comets responded with a run in the top of the second inning, and three in the top of the third. SAC scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to pull to within 6-4. The Comets got one of those runs back in the top of the fourth and plated three in the top of the fifth. SAC scored twice in the bottom of the fourth, but could get just one run the rest of the way as the Comets closed the door on them. The Comets won the first game of the series, 20-11, in nine innings last week Wednesday, and SAC responded by taking the second game, 14-3, on Friday night. In a winner-take-all game last night, it would be the Comets who would come out on top. The Comets also won the BAISS senior girls softball title, finishing off SAC in a two game sweep last week Thursday. SAC took the junior girls softball title, sweeping the Comets two games to none. Once again, the St. Anne's Blue Waves are the BAISS junior boys' baseball champions. They swept the Comets two games to none, to win their second consecutive BAISS junior boys' baseball championship. The Blue Waves junior boys and the Comets senior boys are the only baseball champions in the BAISS, as the sport just came on stream in the private schools in New Providence last year.

‘Don’t touch it’: Michelle Obama tells white folks to ‘get out of’ black women’s hair

Michelle Obama is making waves after claiming that black women have been trapped by the beauty standards of white people, which is why they straighten their hair. The former first lady went on her rant during a live sit-down with Tracee Ellis Ross to discuss her new book, “The Look.” “Let me explain something to white people,” Obama said. “Our hair comes out of our head naturally in a curly pattern. So when we’re straightening it to follow your beauty standards, we’re trapped by the straightness.” “That’s why so many of us can’t swim and we run away from the water … trying to keep our hair straight for y’all! It is exhausting and it’s so expensive and it takes up so much time. Braids are for y’all so we can work harder and focus on the work,” she continued. “Why do we need an act, an act of law, to tell white folks to get out of our hair? Don’t tell me how to wear my hair. Don’t wonder about it. Don’t touch it. Just don’t,” she added. BlazeTV host Pat Gray is not amused by Obama’s little rant. “Can you imagine if this was a white person saying, ‘All right, let me talk down to black people. Let me explain something to you black people about reality.’ … You’re an instant racist if you say that. And you’re labeled as such the rest of your life,” he says on “Pat Gray Unleashed." “There’s no escape from that. How is she immune to all of that?” he asks. “Good lord,” executive producer Keith Malinak chimes in, adding, “She is insane.” Want more from Pat Gray?
