VacancyOur Mission: Discovering and describing life and earth - with people, through dialogue.The Museum für Naturkunde Berlin (MfN) is an excellent and integrated research museum of the Leibniz Association with an international reputation and globally networked research infrastructure. It is active in three closely interlinked fields: collection-based research, collection development and cataloguing, and research-based public and educational work. Over the next ten years, the Museum für Naturkunde will realise its plan for the future. New laboratories and jobs for cutting-edge research will be created. At the same time, one of the world's most comprehensive natural history collections with over 30 million objects will be housed in modern collection buildings and completely digitised in the process. The implementation of the Future Plan, funded with a total of 660 million euros from the Federal Government and the State of Berlin, will only succeed with strong interdisciplinary national and international partners.Become part of our team asPosition: Curator TheMuseumsLab (f/m/d)Work schedule: part-time (85 % of full-time) Duration: 15.01.2026 - 31.12.2026 (parental leave cover)Salary Level: E 13 TV-LCode: 46/2025Project DescriptionTheMuseumsLab Fellowship is a unique African–European joint-learning programme designed for emerging leaders in museums, heritage, and cultural institutions.Since 2021, each year 25 African and 25 European talents embark on an immersive, year-long journey that blends online learning with onsite experiences and practical engagement in museums and cultural institutions. The programme empowers participants to exchange ideas, build lasting networks, and strengthen their leadership skills, nurturing the next generation of visionary museum professionals and shaping the future of museums across continents. Fellows engage with renowned international museum practitioners, academics, artists, and change-makers, all united by their commitment to advancing the museum sector.The Fellowship comprises three one-week modules, delivered both online and onsite in Africa and Eu-rope, complemented by a one-week Residency in a partner institution within TheMuseumsLab Partner Museums Network. The learning journey is framed by an online kickoff at the start and a closing event at the end, providing cohesion, reflection, and a structured arc to the year-long programme.Your tasksLeading preparation and moderation for TheMuseumsLab curatorial team (digital / on-site) including development of preparatory materials and comprehensive information packagesCollaborating closely with the programme’s co-curators to develop and implement contentCoordination and development of programme formats with partner museums in Berlin considering evaluation results of previous programme yearsCoordination, communication and curatorial onboarding of speakers and moderatorsDevelopment and implementation of evaluation formats in coordination with event coordinationProcessing of evaluation results and compilation of an annual evaluation reportProcessing project results for publicationsPreparation of content for strategic board meetingsYour profileUniversity degree in museum studies, heritage studies, curatorial studies, communication sciences, cultural studies or equivalentSeveral years of professional experience in conceptualizing, coordinating, and implementing programmes for art, cultural and educational institutions or equivalentProfessional experience in collaborative international projects and eventsProfessional experience in developing and processing evaluation formatsExpertise in the planning, implementation and follow-up of digital, hybrid and on-site eventsProfound knowledge of the African and European museum landscapeKnowledge of current discourses regarding racism, discrimination, decolonization, diversity, and intersectionalityFluent in English (written and spoken)Excellent communication skillsMotivated, diligent, and independent approach to workEnthusiasm for collaborative teamworkDiversity competenceWe offer youexciting working environment in an attractive research museum with varied tasks in a dynamic and future-orientated marketvery good public transport connections in the centre of Berlinextensive further training opportunities on a personal and professional levelflexible working hours and a wide range of options for balancing work and family life (e.g. flexi-time or individual part-time models)depending on the job, mobile working is possible for up to 60 per cent of individual working hoursremuneration according to TV-L with company pension scheme (VBL), special annual payment and capital-forming benefitsemployer subsidy for the “VBB Firmenticket” (company ticket) or “Deutschlandticket Job” (Germany ticket job)employee events, company health management and German and English language courses30 days' holiday plus 24 December and 31 December offSpecial NotesIn support of equal rights applications from qualified women are particularly welcome.
