Job Description

Core purpose of the role The Accountant is accountable for all aspects of financial accounting, including the financial hygiene and mitigation of risk in the underlying entity.Key deliverables and outputsFinance Operations ManagementDevelop and implement the finance operations management plan and resource the teamAllocate functions and processes to ensure that all financial operations are effectively managedImplement and monitor compliance to financial work instructions as defined by Head OfficeDocument and monitor compliance to all financial processes, procedure and in country regulationsClear any internal audit findings and improve internal controls where necessaryContribute to a successful year-end auditManage and monitor that all transactions are processed through the correct financial systemsReview fixed asset additions loaded onto the system for accuracy.Cash Flow ManagementMonitor the efficiency of cash flow dailyManage bank balances to keep them to a minimumMonitor that all payments are made via the correct accounting systems and not directly to bank.Debtors ManagementMonitor the status of debtors book and manage debtors meetings to discuss action plansMonitor that payments being made are in line with financial policiesReview any adjustments to be made on debtors accounts in conjunction with the Country ManagerVisit customers in relation to outstanding payments as requiredLiaise with operations where necessary to assist in debt collectionAssess and prepare motivations for the write off of any debt and submit to Head Office via Country ManagerFollow up with legal debtors and conduct regular meetings with legal counsel.Creditors ManagementManage the reconciliation of all supplier accounts to ensure payment takes place within agreed termsResolve any queries within time framesReview and authorise all reconciliations on a monthly basisCheck accuracy and approve EFT payments on an ongoing basisPerform administrator function for the company bankers.General Ledger AdministrationPrepare monthly general ledger reconciliationsEnsure the correct and accurate allocation of general ledger entriesProcess own and authorise the team's financial journalsReview and post the teams general ledger batches.Indirect Tax ManagementEnsure all transactions are VAT compliantEnsure all suppliers are set up correctly for VATOversee the preparation and submission of VAT returns within deadlineComplete the monthly VAT reasonability reconciliationCalculate all withholding tax payments and ensure that payments are made to BURS by set deadlines.ReportingAssist with the preparation of quarterly board packsCapture all standard journals for month end resultsReview completeness of accrualsReview and analyse income statement at month end and submit to Country Manager and Financial Manager (South Africa)Prepare final results pack and submit to Financial Manager (South Africa) within Group deadlinesCompile and submit sustainability report to Head OfficePrepare and submit relevant information for annual audit pack.People ManagementProvide clear direction and decisive leadership to direct reports, ensuring all are aligned to the goals and have a clear purposeSet clearly defined performance standards / targets for direct reports, holding them accountable to achieve these and providing support and guidance where needed.Create and maintain a constructive atmosphere within the team, engaging and motivating direct reports to always give their best, while respecting any areas of diversity (whether areas of expertise, cultural, gender, age, background, etc.)Ensure direct reports adhere to set business policies and procedures, emphasising the importance of general discipline at work and objectively correcting and handling any deviations as they ariseResource and staff the team appropriately, considering the relevance of current and new jobs as well as the most suitable ways in which to place or replace any vacancies.Set the example to the team and deliver on the employee value proposition by leading the team and the business in line with the Zeda Leadership BehavioursSupport and encourage direct reports to drive their own individual development plans in order to further grow as professionals in their jobs.Internal and External StakeholdersThe role requires close engagement and collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders.Academic Qualifications Essential: Bachelor's degree in Accounting / Financial Management or related.Valid Driver’s License.Advantageous: Honours degree in Accounting / Financial ManagementWork ExperienceEssential:5 Years’ Experience as an Accountant2 Years’ Experience managing people.
