About The RoleThe in-house counsel performs a critical function as an integral member of the AIG Mexico and LAC Legal Department. The individual will provide critical legal and regulatory support, with regard to business mainly in relation to transactional, legal, regulatory and compliance matters, as it offers products, services, and pursues new business opportunities.Specific Duties Include Providing Legal Support With Regard ToNegotiating, drafting, and reviewing insurance policies, contracts, endorsements, marketing material, and other ancillary documents.Providing legal advice on legal and regulatory matters (in Spanish and English).Interacting with the regulator to support the filing and approval of products of all line of business.Serving as key point of interaction between the business units and regulator in responding to demands and requests.Developing training for internal departments on new regulation and other requirements.Overseeing external counsel in connection with administrative and judicial proceedings.What We’re Looking ForAn energetic and engaged attorney who will anticipate, identify, analyze and solve problems, with demonstrated business/industry knowledge.Team and Reporting LinesReports to Mexico’s General Counsel within the AIG Legal Department with a matrix report to LAC General Counsel.QualificationsJD and bar admission required.Three to five years of legal experience in the reinsurance and/or insurance industry.Energetic, engaged and collaborative team member.Business acumen, negotiation and organizational agility, presentation and problem-solving skills and sound judgment.The position requires strong negotiating and communication skills, where advanced English skills (written and verbal) are expected.Ability to analyses complex situations and prioritize actions.Ability to interact with internal/external clients and brokers, with all levels of underwriting business partners, from senior executives to more junior underwriters, and with other legal and service teams within the company.At AIG, we value in-person collaboration as a vital part of our culture, which is why we ask our team members to be primarily in the office.
