Job Description

UWE Bristol’s English Language and Linguistics Programme is looking for Associate Lecturers to teach into undergraduate modules from January 2026 to July 2026. This includes familiarisation of pre-prepared teaching materials; delivery of lectures, seminars, and workshops; individual tutoring; and assessment and feedback.To teach into the following modules from January 2026 until July 2026:Language Acquisition – Level 5 (Second Year) 30 credit moduleSecond language acquisition: Approaches to L2 acquisition; The ‘critical period’ hypothesis; Development of lexicon and grammar in L2 acquisition; Input and interaction in L2 acquisition; Other factors affecting L2 acquisition; Teaching methodologies; Practical approaches to L2 acquisition (language learning).For an informal chat about the Language Acquisition teaching, please contact Minna Kirjavainen-Morgan (Minna.Kirjavainen-Morgan@uwe.ac.uk)TESOL - Level 6 (Third year) 30 credit moduleThis final-year module does not produce a TESOL qualification, but rather it is an academic exploration how English can be taught to speakers of other languages. The ideal candidate will have substantial TESOL teaching and/or research experience, with the ability to support final-year students during their practicum. Teaching will involve a weekly class AND offering individual tutorials to reflect on and evaluate teaching – all leading up to the final written assignment, which is a learner analysis. The applicant could choose to teach existing content on ‘language myths’, i.e. everyday attitudes and stereotypes around language, and/or provide their own content on real-life applications of linguistics, to be discussed with the module leader. The potential scope of this module is quite broad, but relevant topics would include digital communication, healthcare, education. (Forensic linguistics is covered elsewhere in the module, so that is not an option.)For an informal chat about the Applying Linguistics in Life teaching, please contact Module Leader Kate Steel ( Kate.Steel@uwe.ac.uk )Ecolinguistics – Level 6 (Third Year) 30 credit ModuleThis second half of a final-year module introduces students to ecolinguistics, exploring the role of language in shaping thought, policy, and action in relation to the natural world and sustainability. The candidate needs some experience of teaching and/or research in critical approaches to discourse analysis, particularly in areas such as framing and metaphor analysis. The candidate must have a working knowledge of ecolinguistic theory and current global environmental debates – or a willingness to brush up on both.
