Job Title: Senior AWS Cloud Architect (Contract – Reliability & Resiliency Engineering)Looking for: Senior AWS Architect who can evaluate products running in AWS, analyze how they are protected from failover/how they handle disruptions and make recommendations on how to improve.This is not a hands on role - just making the recommendations. The ADP team will do the implementation.Candidate needs to come from a large/enterprise level company (similar size or bigger than ADP)Engagement Details Contract Duration: Through June 30, 2026 (with potential for extension). Work Location: Alpharetta, GA preferred; Roseland, NJ considered. Must reside in Eastern time zone for overlap with ADP and India teams. Travel: Occasional on-site collaboration in Alpharetta (~1x/month).About The RoleADP’s Central Reliability Engineering organization is seeking an expert-level AWS Cloud Architect to support enterprise-wide initiatives that strengthen resiliency and fault tolerance across our AWS-hosted product portfolio.This team operates as an internal consulting group—partnering across ADP’s product and infrastructure organizations to evaluate, advise, and architect solutions that improve system reliability, failover strategy, and cloud resiliency.The ideal candidate will bring deep hands-on understanding of AWS architecture and a strategic mindset for designing systems that can gracefully handle large-scale outages and disruptions. This is a high-visibility, advisory-level role focused on analysis, design, and recommendations rather than hands-on engineering.Key Responsibilities Partner with product SRE and infrastructure teams to evaluate current AWS-hosted applications for resiliency, failover capability, and recovery strategy. Lead architectural reviews of ADP products to identify single points of failure and propose design improvements for multi-region, multi-zone resiliency. Analyze product behaviors during recent AWS outages and document lessons learned. Design strategies to enable failover independent of the AWS control plane, aligning with evolving cloud architecture best practices. Produce actionable recommendations and roadmaps for product teams to implement (execution handled by product/infrastructure teams). Serve as a thought leader and facilitator, driving conversations on resiliency patterns, architectural tradeoffs, and enterprise-scale reliability. Collaborate with AWS technical partners to align recommendations with AWS resiliency frameworks and services. Engage with ADP’s Chaos Engineering program to validate assumptions and strengthen system reliability through controlled failure testing.Required Skills & Experience 10+ years of progressive experience in cloud architecture and infrastructure, with a primary focus on AWS. Deep understanding of AWS core services including EC2, RDS, S3, Route 53, Lambda, CloudFormation/Terraform, IAM, and networking services. Proven ability to architect for resiliency, failover, and disaster recovery across large-scale, enterprise-grade environments. Experience supporting high-availability, mission-critical workloads that serve millions of users. Strong background in multi-region / multi-zone architectures and distributed systems design. Excellent communication skills; able to lead cross-functional discussions and influence without authority. Experience operating in large, regulated enterprise environments (e.g., financial services, fintech, or payroll systems). Comfortable engaging at a strategic and conceptual level rather than hands-on engineering.Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in reliability engineering, chaos engineering, or disaster recovery planning. Familiarity with resilient cloud design patterns and AWS Well-Architected Framework. AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional (or equivalent experience; certifications not required). Previous experience consulting or advising multiple product teams simultaneously.
