Training interventions provided by Learn to Earn are circumstantial, practical and market related. What is innovative about Learn to Earn is the methodology and ethos behind its training interventions. The ethos of the organization is about rebuilding the self-esteem, dignity, self-respect and ambition of our trainees. Our vision and mission are applied through offering skills training and job creation activities to the unemployed.Ground UP comprises of the Ground UP Academy and Ground UP Business. The academy offers Barista training in Khayelitsha and Hermanus. Ground UP business offers various entrepreneurial opportunities, coffee solutions and coffee sales to the public. Suitability qualified candidates to apply for the vacancies of Barista Trainer based at our Hermanus Campus.Roles and ResponsibilitiesTo follow the set curriculum and its various modules in order to provide training and instruction using various methods to transfer skills and knowledge to studentsTo mentor and coach students attending the Barista Course in order that they can achieve the best outcome.To attend to all administrative aspects of the course including training preparation (course outlines, lesson plans, timeous ordering of materials) and training administration (registration, payment of student fees, course entry screening, assessments, reports, coaching documents, and maintenance of the database).To explore the speciality coffee market to find partners most suitable for internship sites or placement opportunities. Assist students in finding jobs.Connect with various people in the industry.To order training material including consumable like coffee, milk, etc timeously.To arrange field trips and excursions to places of interest in the coffee industry e.g., roasteries, competitions, etc. Qualifications And RequirementsExperience as a Barista Trainer with a proven Barista record that is reflected in qualifications and achievements attained within the industry. At least three (3) years’ experience in a Barista training environment in addition to three (3) years of artisanal and speciality barista experience. The applicants must have experience in:Creating, maintaining, & improving as needed a training program including coffee basics, barista basics & advanced training, milk creations, and alternative and hand brewing training. Teaching and participating at regular specialty coffee conventions and competitions. Have presented Cupping Events and have a sound understanding of roasting techniques. The ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and respond to all customer enquiries regarding coffee. Be subject matter expert on current coffee trends and preferably be SCA or City & Guilds accredited. Coffee shop management experience is beneficial. Proven track record in education and/or social development. Have at least 5 years’ experience working in a multi-cultural training environment. Experience in the NPO PBO sector will be advantageous. Passionate about developing the unemployed and eradicating the legacies of injustice. Good computer and administrative skills required. Ability to meet deadlines is essential as well as attention to detail and report writing skills. Able to interact comfortably and effectively within an inter-cultural environment made up of different social, economic, cultural, and educational backgrounds and be team orientated. Good communication skills in English while knowledge of isiXhosa/Afrikaans would be beneficial. Three independent contactable references, from previous reporting lines.
