This opportunity is offered through the Directorate of Solid Waste and Environmental Management and is aimed at ensuring public safety along the city’s popular beaches during the busy festive period.This initiative gives qualified and experienced lifesavers the opportunity to serve the community by protecting residents and visitors enjoying the city’s coastline.About The PositionPosition Title: Seasonal Lifeguards (X35 – Beaches)Task Grade: 6ASalary: R23,990.25 per monthContract Period: 1 December 2025 – 31 January 2026Reference Number: 167/25Successful applicants will form part of Buffalo City’s dedicated beach safety team, ensuring that all beachgoers enjoy a safe and enjoyable summer season.Minimum RequirementsTo qualify for the Seasonal Lifeguard position, applicants must meet the following criteria:Minimum Grade 10 qualificationSurf Proficiency Award CertificateValid retest certificateAt least 1 year of relevant lifesaving experienceMust be 16 years of age or olderThese requirements ensure that candidates are capable of performing the demanding duties associated with lifesaving and emergency response.Key ResponsibilitiesLifeguards play a vital role in maintaining safety along the beaches of Buffalo City. Successful candidates will be expected to:Patrol beaches and monitor swimming conditionsRescue drowning persons and provide emergency assistanceAdminister first aid to the injured on-siteOperate rescue equipment, including inflatable boatsMaintain crowd control and perform Peace Officer duties where necessaryRespond swiftly to emergencies and report incidents accuratelyThis position requires alertness, stamina, and the ability to stay calm under pressure while managing emergencies effectively.Application GuidelinesApplicants are not required to complete a standard municipal application form.
