My Vote Counts (MVC) Campaign Intern: Democracy from Below at My Vote CountsDeadline:03 December 2025 Region:Cape Town or Johannesburg Salary:R15 000 (total cost to company) Type of employment:Full time Job DescriptionContract Period: 1 January 2026 – 31 July 2026Are you passionate about building people’s power and strengthening grassroots democracy in South Africa? My Vote Counts (MVC) works to ensure everyone can participate meaningfully in democracy, with a focus on transparency, accountability and systems of change.Our Democracy from Below programme builds power in communities and people’s movements. Ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections, we are focusing on making Right to Recall a public demand, strengthening local accountability and amplifying grassroots voices.What You Will GainPractical organising experience through Democracy Dialogues and community-based engagements.Skills in campaign development, research, strategy and mobilisation, including the Right to Recall campaign.Exposure to coalition-building and work with civil society organisations, movements and community structures.Experience in political education and creating accessible popular education materials.Research and analysis skills on democratic accountability and participatory democracy.Roles and ResponsibilitiesSupport planning and facilitation of Democracy Dialogues, Kopano tsa Democracy and strategy convenings.Coordinate follow ups with partners and organisers, and support coalition-building for the 2026 Local Government Elections.Assist with putting campaign activities and events in place and ensuring smooth implementation.Liaise with grassroots organisations, movements, civil society partners, creatives and vendors.Support research on accountability mechanisms, including Right to Recall, and help turn findings into practical tools.Help develop popular education materials and campaign tools (toolkits, infographics, audio-visual content, workshop guides).Draft short captions, blurbs and social media content for advocacy and public education.Document campaign progress through notes, attendance, quotes, photos and maintaining clean trackers and contact lists.Qualifications And Requirements1–3 years’ experience in community organising, social movements or civil society work.Undergraduate qualification in politics, sociology, community development, social work or related fields.Clear commitment to social justice, people’s power and grassroots democracy.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable working with diverse communities.Interest in South African politics, social movements and civil society.Experience or willingness to learn facilitation and basic event coordination.Able to work independently and in a small team.Reliable, organised and attentive detail.Basic IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, social media).Willingness to travel for community engagements.Proficient in English; other South African languages an advantage.How to applyEmail info@myvotecounts.org.za with the subject “Democracy from Below Intern Application” and include:CV with three references (max 2 pages).Letter of motivation explaining your interest in grassroots democracy and what you hope to learn.A copy of or link to a recent written content.Files must be named: Full name – Name of document (CV, motivation letter or written piece).
