.Posted 4 hours agoMIDLANDS STATE UNIVERSITYSTAFF VACANCYApplications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons for the following posts:CENTRAL SERVICES, AMENITIES AND MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENTPost A: Welder/ Fitter and Turner: (1 Post- Gweru)Qualifications And ExperienceArtisan Welder Class 1 At least 2 years of working experience as a welderSkills And CompetencesExcellent organizational and time management skills.Exceptional customer service skills.Effective verbal and written communication skills.Duties And ResponsibilitiesInterpreting working drawings correctly, fabricating and welding quality structures using appropriate methods and machineryPerforming project tasks as instructed and completing tasks without “redos”Planning for tooling and spares concerning daily and scheduled worksPerforming risk assessments for every task, maintaining and focusing on safe work practices and a safe work environmentTeaming up in preparing, establishing, and implementing appropriate working procedures to achieve deadlinesDelivering as per key performance indicators.Post B: Assistant Welder/ Fitter and Turner (1 Post- Gweru)Qualifications And ExperienceArtisan Welder Class 2 or 3 At least 2 years’ experience working as a welderDuties And ResponsibilitiesInterpreting working drawings correctly, fabricate and weld quality structures. Post C: Assistant Plumber (1 Post- Harare)Qualifications And ExperienceArtisan Plumber Class 2 or 3At least 2 years as a Plumber.Duties And ResponsibilitiesAssisting the Plumber in performing the following:Carrying out plumbing repairs and maintenance on all University buildings.Carrying out plumbing repairs (maintenance of water and sewer lines for the University).Cleaning gutters and down pipes for all university buildings, before the onset of the rains each year and during the rainy season.Carrying out plumbing installations on new or existing buildings.Constructing and laying new water and sewer lines for the University.Checking and ensuring that all areas of the University receive water with enough pressure.Delivering as per key performance indicators. Post D: Carpenter (1 Post: Gweru Campus)Qualifications And ExperienceClass One Journeyman certificate in Carpentry and JoineryA minimum of 2 years’ professional work experience as a carpenter Skills And CompetencesExcellent organizational and time management skills.Exceptional customer service skills.Effective verbal and written communication skillsThe Carpenter Is Responsible For The Following Duties:Reading and interpreting blueprintsCarrying out all the carpentry repairs and maintenance on all buildings of the UniversityCarrying out all carpentry repairs and maintenance of furniture e.g. chairs, desks, shelves, cupboards, cabinets etc for the UniversityCarrying out all new carpentry works on buildings, furniture and facilities whenever this is not outsourcedAssessing and producing carpentry maintenance requirements for all University buildings and furniture on a regular basisConducting repair work and installation of doors, windows, cabinets, balustrades, and other fixtures as requiredAssessing the quality of woodwork and materialsOperating tools, machines, and other equipmentEnsuring compliance with local building codes, and health and safety regulationsDelivering as per key performance indicators.Post E: Assistant Bricklayer (2 Posts: Gweru Campus)Qualifications And ExperienceClass 2 or 3 Journeyman Certificate in BuildingA minimum of 2 years’ professional work experience as a Builder Competence in tiling will be an added advantageDuties And ResponsibilitiesThe Builder / Bricklayer is responsible for the following duties:Interpreting work drawingCarrying out construction activity on assigned projects: brick and block laying, plastering and tilingAssisting supervisors with structural design, planning, layout, and installationCarrying out renovations and refurbishmentsGeneral maintenance of buildingsAdhering to building by-laws in all construction workDelivering as per key performance indicators.Post F: Assistant Mechanic (1 Post: Gweru Campus)Qualifications And ExperienceClass 2 or 3 Journeyman Certificate in Mechanics A minimum of 2 years’ professional work experience as a MechanicDuties And ResponsibilitiesInspecting of all University vehicles and generators’ condition/status, diagnosing any defect and carrying out repairs and maintenance.Checking all University vehicles and generators for any service requirements and arranging for their services through the Transport OfficeMaintaining, repairing and servicing vehicles and generators and other machines whenever the problem or fault is within the capacity of the University workshopRecommending purchase of spares to the Fleet Maintenance SupervisorMaintaining relevant records for the running and maintenance of all vehicles and generators Checking on the work done on University vehicles and generators and machines whenever external service providers repair a vehicle or generatorDelivering as per key performance indicators.NB: Midlands State University is an equal opportunities employer.
