The Cloud Operations Engineer serves as the technical lead responsible for the daily support and management of the infrastructure and cloud platforms hosted by the Arizona Strategic Enterprise Technology Cloud Operations team. This pivotal role requires establishing and maintaining strong working relationships with both internal and external Statewide technical teams, as well as vendors. These collaborative partnerships are essential for managing critical services, including data center infrastructure, telecommunications, enterprise network connectivity, cloud management, service management operations, and information security. The successful candidate will drive the operational excellence and stability of Arizona's core technological environment.The State of Arizona strives for a work culture that affords employees flexibility, autonomy, and trust. All work, including remote work, should be performed within Arizona unless an exception is properly authorized in advance.Job DutiesProvide expert day-to-day operational support and maintenance for multi-cloud IaaS and PaaS infrastructures hosted across Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platforms (GCP)Design, build, and manage a Statewide Cloud Management Platform to centralize operations and governanceImplement comprehensive monitoring and performance management for all infrastructure components, including on-premise virtualization environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and multi-cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP)Lead the planning, design, and development of cloud-native applications through advanced orchestration and automation of multi-cloud platformsArchitect and implement secure, scalable web services in the cloud, including the configuration of geographically redundant and highly available servicesCollaborate closely with the engineering team to research, evaluate, and deploy the most optimal, cost-effective, and scalable cloud-based solutions for the organizationMaintain and enhance Infrastructure as Code (IaC) scripts and RESTful APIs to ensure reliable, repeatable, and automated management of the multi-cloud infrastructure and service integrationsKnowledge OfKnowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):Strong cloud technology conceptsNetworking concepts (e.g., DNS, TCP/IP, and firewalls)Implementing and controlling the flow of data, to and from a service providerNetworking, Load Balancing, DNS, Virtualization (Hyper-V, VMWare), performance monitoring, and capacity planningMicrosoft Active Directory, Cloud Identity, and Cloud ServicesSkills InStrong verbal and written communicationUsing cloud orchestration toolsDeveloping, running, and maintaining scripts (PowerShell, CLI, JSON, Python, Bash) with 2-3 years of experienceITIL Services best practicesManaging Cloud SolutionsCloud Identity ManagementAbility ToSee and solve issues before they escalate into problemsWork with virtualization technologiesEstimate usage costs and identify operational cost control mechanismsTranslate architectural requirementsDeploy, manage, and operate scalable, highly available, and fault-tolerant systemsSolid understanding and experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) implementationsSelective Preference(s)Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Management Systems, or other IT related discipline3+ years programming experience with scripting languages3+ years of Git and integration with Git development to operational workflowPre-Employment RequirementsPossession of at least one technical or cloud vendor certifications such as:AWS Certifications (Associate Level – Architect, Developer, System Administrator or Professional Levels)Microsoft Azure Certifications in Associate level - Administration or Architect or ProfessionalIf this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business, then the following requirements apply: Driver’s License Requirements.All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).BenefitsThe Arizona Department of Administration offers a comprehensive benefits package to include:Sick leaveVacation with 10 paid holidays per yearPaid Parental Leave-Up to 12 weeks per year paid leave for newborn or newly-placed foster/adopted child (pilot program)Health and dental insuranceRetirement planLife insurance and long-term disability insuranceOptional employee benefits include short-term disability insurance, deferred compensation plans, and supplemental life insuranceBy providing the option of a full-time or part-time remote work schedule, employees enjoy improved work/life balance, report higher job satisfaction, and are more productive.
