Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTIONThe Coffee Roaster is responsible for executing daily coffee roasting operations to ensure consistent quality, flavor profiles, and production efficiency. This role involves roasting, quality control, cupping, roastery operations, basic equipment coordination, and compliance with food safety standards, while working closely under the guidance of the Head of Coffee.RESPONSIBILITIES1.  ​Coffee Roasting Operations ·       Execute daily coffee roasting according to approved roast profiles and production schedules.·       Monitor roast curves, temperatures, airflow, and development times to ensure consistency.·       Adjust roasting parameters as required to maintain flavor standards.·       Ensure accurate batch weighing, roasting, cooling, and storage procedures.·       Maintain proper labeling and traceability of roasted coffee batches. 2.  ​Quality Control & Cupping ·       Conduct routine cupping sessions to evaluate roasted coffee quality, consistency, and defects.·       Identify flavor variations, roast defects, and inconsistencies and report findings to the Head of Coffee.·       Assist in refining roast profiles based on cupping feedback.·       Maintain quality records and cupping notes for continuous improvement. 3.  ​Roastery Operations ·       Support daily roastery workflow including green coffee handling, inventory movement, and packaging coordination.·       Ensure cleanliness and organization of the roastery according to hygiene and safety standards.·       Follow production plans to meet internal café and wholesale demand.·       Assist with stock rotation (FIFO) for green and roasted coffee. 4.  ​Equipment & Maintenance Coordination ·       Perform daily cleaning and basic preventive maintenance of roasting equipment.·       Monitor roaster performance and identify early signs of technical issues.·       Coordinate with the Head of Coffee and maintenance teams for equipment servicing and repairs.·       Ensure all roasting and packaging equipment is operated safely and correctly. 5.  ​Reporting & Compliance ·       Maintain accurate roasting logs, production reports, and quality control records.·       Comply with food safety, health, and workplace safety regulations.·       Follow company SOPs, roast standards, and compliance requirements.·       Report any operational, quality, or safety concerns promptly. 6.  ​Teamwork & Communication ·       Work closely under the supervision of the Head of Coffee.·       Collaborate with production, quality, and warehouse teams to ensure smooth operations.·       Support training of assistants or helpers when required.
