About The OpportunityJOB SUMMARY:The Community Assistant is an entry level live in staff member that is responsible for directly supporting the physical, emotional, social, and academic needs of our first-year students. In addition to supporting these students, this position will serve as part of the Residential Life team to focus on creating positive and valuable experiential learning opportunities. Experiential programs will aid the students in their academic coursework, help orient them to the Bay Area, and community building student programming within the residences/campus life.Responsibilities IncludeCoordinate and plan student programs and excursions. These programs can be during the day, in the evenings, and/or on the weekendsMentor first-year students who are not only entering college for the first time, but adjusting to studying away from homeEncourage student academic success, respond to student concerns, and connect students to academic, medical, and mental health resourcesMonitor student behavioral policies and protocols, upholding a high standard of student conductMaintain the safety and well-being of the residential population by serving in a 24/7 on-call rotation and conducting regular rounds of student residencesRespond to crisis by interacting with campus public safety, Oakland Student health center, and limited engagement with student’s parents.Act as the point of contact for student and staff safety and security during crises andBe an on-call emergency contact during entire duration of programPerform other duties as assignedQualificationsBachelor's degree and related Residential Life experience preferred1-2 years of demonstrated student service experience or higher education experience in a residence life or student affairs capacity, which includes experience living with or working with high school or undergraduate students (in residence life, student affairs, camp counselor, or related role)Experience living, working, or studying abroad or in vastly different cultures/communitiesAbility to demonstrate intercultural sensitivity and global awarenessDemonstrated flexibility and experience with crisis managementProven ability to work well as a member of a close-knit teamExperience managing, facilitating and curating events for large groups with enthusiasm and attention to detailFluent in EnglishPosition TypeStudent ServicesAdditional InformationNortheastern University considers factors such as candidate work experience, education and skills when extending an offer.Northeastern has a comprehensive benefits package for benefit eligible employees.
