Job Description

DutiesAdhere to general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships, and team building. Responsibilities include processing and screening cytologic specimens according to procedure and screening microscopic slides for diagnostic evaluation.Issue diagnostic reports on cytologic material. Provide final diagnostic reports on negative GYN cases and preliminary diagnoses on cases for further evaluation by a Pathologist. Perform and document quality control and quality assurance activities appropriately. Provide workload documentation and assure quality of fine needle aspirations. Maintain identification of patient specimens while processing. Process cytologic specimens in the absence of a cytoprep tech, ensuring correct and complete patient identification at all times. Contribute to the smooth and efficient operation of the section and department. Protect self, coworkers, and facility by following approved policies and procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne and/or airborne diseases. Use engineering controls, work practice controls, and appropriate personal protective equipment as indicated. Assist in the training and orientation of less experienced employees, students, and others as delegated. Improve work skills through self-study and continuing education. Perform work without allowing personal situations or perspectives to compromise lab operations. Adjust schedule to meet changes in workload or at the direction of the manager, scheduling appointments on days off when possible. Exhibit and promote the professional image of laboratories in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals, and standards of laboratory testing. Provide age-appropriate FNA collection in accordance with age-specific guidelines for neonates, infants, toddlers, preschoolers, school-age children, adolescents, early adults, middle adults, and late adults. Demonstrate knowledge of age-specific factors as necessary to assist in the performance of fine needle aspiration. Utilize knowledge of age-specific data and modify approaches for identified patients. SkillsAbility to listen and communicate effectively. Technical ability and interest. Ability to work cooperatively; team player. Position requires working the first shift, five days a week.
