Data Platform Lead

The Data Platform Lead is a pivotal leadership role within our company, responsible for architecting, managing, and evolving Banxa's comprehensive data platform. This role ensures the seamless operation of data engineering pipelines, robust data analytics capabilities, and the strategic development of our overall data landscape. They will empower data-driven decision-making across the organization by ensuring high data quality, accessibility, and the efficient delivery of insights from financial and cryptocurrency data. Leveraging technologies such as dbt,Fivetran, Snowflake, and AWS, this role will lead a team to deliver tailored solutions, identify optimization opportunities, and drive Banxa's data strategy forward.Responsibilities: Strategic Data Platform Leadership: Develop and champion Banxa's overarching data strategy, roadmaps, and architectural vision for the data platform, encompassing data ingestion, processing, storage, analytics, and governance.Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and grow a team of data engineers and data analysts, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.Data Engineering Oversight: Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of robust data pipelines using dbt, Fivetran and Snowflake to ingest, process, and transform financial and cryptocurrency data from diverse sources.Data Analytics Enablement: Drive the development of data analytics capabilities, ensuring stakeholders have access to accurate, timely, and insightful reporting and dashboards to support financial analysis, risk management, and compliance.Data Quality & Governance: Establish and enforce data quality standards, monitoring processes, and data governance frameworks to ensure the accuracy, integrity, timeliness, and security of all data assets, adhering to GDPR, PDPA, and other global data standards and mandates.Data Modeling & Optimization: Guide the implementation of data models optimized for financial and cryptocurrency analysis, incorporating specific requirements for transaction handling, market data, and regulatory reporting.Stakeholder Collaboration & Management: Collaborate extensively with cross-functional stakeholders, including senior leadership, product teams, finance, and compliance, to understand their data needs and deliver strategic data solutions. Liaise with external partners and development teams for all data-related initiatives.System Reliability & Automation: Proactively build and maintain sustainable data systems and services through automation, infrastructure as code (IaC), and continuous improvement initiatives.Documentation & Knowledge Management: Oversee the creation, update, and maintenance of comprehensive technical documentation for data pipelines, models, processes, and a centralized knowledge base of known issues and changes, adhering to industry standards and regulatory requirements.Technology Evaluation & Improvement: Analyze current data technologies utilized within the company and develop strategies and processes to improve and expand upon them, identifying new tools and methodologies to enhance the data platform.Operational Excellence: Foster a culture of designing for, and expecting failure in, production systems – a culture where learning and knowledge-sharing are expected, and a culture of sustainable incident response and blameless post-mortems.Qualifications: A degree in computer science, data engineering, software engineering, or a similar field would be advantageous.SnowPro Core and Advanced Certifications, dbt Certified Developer - Advantageous.Skills: Strategic Acumen & Leadership: Proven ability to define and execute data strategies, lead teams, and drive significant data initiatives across an organization.Analytical and Problem-Solving Acumen: Excels in critical thinking and complex problem-solving, adeptly identifying and resolving intricate data challenges at both a technical and strategic level.Proactive and Continuous Improvement Mindset: Takes initiative to identify areas for optimization across the entire data lifecycle, proactively addressing performance bottlenecks and enhancing system efficiency.Effective Communication and Collaboration: Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills, fostering seamless collaboration with technical teams, non-technical stakeholders, and senior leadership.Stakeholder Management Expertise: Effectively manages diverse stakeholders at all levels, ensuring alignment, managing expectations, and driving successful data project outcomes.Agile and Innovation-Driven Approach: Embraces a collaborative and innovative spirit, leveraging CI/CD principles and Agile methodologies to drive continuous improvement in data systems and processes.Experience:Proven Data Leadership Track Record: 7+ years of hands-on experience in data roles, with at least 3+ years in a leadership or management position overseeing data engineering and/or data analytics teams.Deep Data Platform Expertise: Extensive experience in designing, developing, and maintaining scalable data warehouses and data platforms.Advanced Snowflake, Fivetran and dbt Proficiency: Demonstrated expert proficiency in Snowflake SQL, Fivetran and dbt, showcasing strong skills in creating various model types, database objects, and implementing rigorous data quality checks.Solid AWS Cloud Experience: Hands-on experience with key AWS services, including EC2, Lambda, RDS, S3, Step Functions, CloudWatch, and data-related services like Glue or Kinesis, to build and manage scalable data solutions.DevOps and Automation Leadership: Experience leading the implementation of infrastructure as code (IaC) and CI/CD pipelines to streamline development, testing, and deployment processes for data solutions.Security and Access Control Expertise: Proven ability to design, implement, and maintain Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and other security measures to ensure data security and compliance at an organizational level.Familiarity with Additional Databases: Experience with MySQL/MariaDB and other database technologies is a plus, demonstrating adaptability to diverse data storage solutions.Agile Mindset: Prior experience working in an Agile environment, showcasing adaptability to iterative development and collaboration, preferably at a leadership level.About Banxa Holding IncBanxa Holding Inc (“Banxa”) is a listed company on the TSX Venture Exchange with global operations.
