This Design Manager will work side by side with the Executives in guiding and overseeing the development, implementation and execution of monthly design plans. Not only will he or she maintain a deep understanding ok key productivity and sales metrics - this role will also ensure clear communication progress for such metrics. The director will require to de an out of the box thinker and leader who exudes passion and knowledge within their role.Major Responsibilities:Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.Lead on the overall concept and sketch review creation for multiple brandsManage the fabric selection processOversee trend research for ideas in silhouette, trim and fabricsCollaborate with cross functional teams to clearly communicate monthly design plans from an aesthetic and productivity standpointFacilitate deep integration to ensure alignment with the Buying team in order to craft a unique product mixEnsure the designs are unique, while also aligned with the company vision and directionMaintain a deep understanding of key productivity and sales metrics and ensure clear communication process for such metrics (i.e. designer scorecards, key sales metrics)Maximize the calendar and create ways team members can effectively hit deadlineContinue to evolve design strategy and structure with the executive team while also communicating it thoroughly and effectivelyProvide leadership and direct to the entire design team which includes creating and executing short and long-term developmental goalsCultivate, interview and train junior members which includes leading workshopsEffectively conduct the line presentation to the executives and buyersBuild quarterly trend decks and design plansTranslate trend research/forecasting to sellable garmentsTravel oversees as neededComplete ad-hoc tasks and assignments as directed by executivesCompetencies: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:Have a trend-focused, forward thinking mindsetBe risk taker but also data drivenExperience working closely with various cross-functional departments including the buying teamPrior experience in effectively leading and managing othersExceptional problem-solving skills and exceptional ability to identify and improve processesStrong ability to take risks with designs, while also staying aligned with the customerExpert knowledge to take risks with designs, while also staying aligned to identify and improve processesExpert knowledge of target specs and POMsExpert sketching and CAD abilityExpert ability to lead, manage and train multiple levels of designers and multiple brand categoriesExpert communication skillsExpert analytical and decision-making skillsProactive, self-motivated , advanced knowledge of how to delegate and still meet deadlines with "get it done" attitudeFlexible personality willing to take direction and change as business needs change/growMust be able to thriven a fast-paced environment and short lead calendar ( 5 months )Must be able and willing to lift and carry up to 10 lbs., perform frequent repetitive finger, hand and wrist motions, as well as bending, stooping, reaching, squatting, kneeling, pushing and pullingMust be able to sit for extended periods of timeMinimum Qualifications:Minimum of 7+ years of senior leaderships and planning experience with leading design teams10+ years of professional work experience in women's apparel designDegree in Women's Apparel designExpert knowledge of textiles, materials construction and fitComputer sketching using CAD skills including Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop, hand sketching, flat sketchingExpert in developing tech packsStrong hand illustration skillsExpert computer skills including experience using Microsoft Suite, Adobe Suite and Google suite applicationsPreferred Qualifications:Experience with leading multiple brandsExperience at luxury or contemporary brandDesign experience with large LA based apparel company*Candidates must submit a portfolio or work samples to be considered. A design assessment may be assigned.A successful candidate works well in a dynamic environment with minimal supervision. This takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to business or organizational needs, skill sets, experience and training, licensure, and certifications.A reasonable estimate of the current base salary range is $120,00 to $150,000 per year.
