Bethel AME Church is seeking a Director of Communications who can run a clear, consistent weekly communications cycle across Sunday Digital, social media, email, and the website. This role is highly execution focused and essential to keeping members, guests, and the broader community connected and informed. You will maintain Bethel’s communication and digital channels, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and timely updates every week.Why this role is uniqueBethel is a long-standing, mission-driven Boston church with meaningful local, national, and global impact in faith, justice, and community leadership. In this role, you help people stay connected to that ongoing work by translating ministry activity into clear, accessible information across all digital and Sunday touchpoints.What you'll doOwn and execute Bethel’s weekly communications cycle across Sunday Digital, website, email, and social media.Manage Bethel’s digital presence ensuring web pages, social channels, and email communications are accurate, timely, and aligned with the church’s voice.Oversee Sunday Digital including announcements, slide decks, service messages, and screen content in partnership with Media Arts and Worship & Arts.Write and edit content for the website, email newsletters, social platforms, and occasional print materials.Maintain a communications calendar supporting ministries, events, and major church initiatives.Support internal communications by helping staff and ministry leaders communicate clearly and consistently.Manage social-first content on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube and monitor basic analytics.Coordinate with designers, photographers, and videographers as needed.Support and guide 1–2 volunteers assisting with Sunday Digital or communications tasks.What you bringBachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.3+ years managing communications in a church, nonprofit, or mission-driven setting.Strong writing and editing skills with attention to clarity and detail.Experience managing digital channels (website, social, email) and producing platform-ready content.Highly organized and deadline driven with the ability to manage multiple priorities.Collaborative and comfortable working with multiple ministry leaders.Tools: Planning Center, Mailchimp (or similar), Canva/Adobe Express, website CMS, social media tools.BenefitsHealth and dental insurancePTO + holidays403(b) with matchHybrid scheduleThis role combines execution and strategy, with a greater emphasis on delivering clear, timely content and managing day-to-day communications operations.
