We bring deep insight into human behavior, design, and technology to craft experiences that feel intuitive, expressive, and unmistakably Spotify.We are looking for a Director of Engineering to lead the tech team in the Core Value & Engagement Product Area (CV&E) within the CoreX (Core Mobile Experience) Studio. CV&E is doubling down on Spotify’s recent investment in Social and Messaging and is also the home for some of our most loved features, like Playlists and Your Library as well as key data delivery platforms like List Platform and Collection. Our key mission is to make Social a key engagement lever in 2026 and onwards. The team comprises 9 squads (90 people in engineering) across EMEA.As the engineering lead, you will focus on technical delivery through our dual-track approach: Discovery and Execution. Success in this role requires sophisticated collaboration with peers, Staff Engineers, Product, Design, and Insights, fostering a playful and innovative environment. We are looking for a candidate who can quickly grasp product goals and find innovative ways to achieve them while aligning with our technical strategy. The Spotify app should feel like it's all built by a small, tight team, even though we’re close to 300 in engineering. This means leadership in CoreX is a team sport, more like coordinated swimming than a solo run.What You’ll DoLead a high-performing team of Engineering Managers and Staff Engineers, providing career development and technical direction.Half of your time you will lead, coach and grow others. The other half you will go deep in technical delivery, be in the smallest detail and make sure we build the right way, on the right timeline, with the right tradeoffs.Integrate AI in all of our existing processes to make us faster and more agile. Partner with senior product management leaders from across the business to define the technical vision, strategy, and roadmap for Curation.Ensure effective planning and predictable high-quality delivery of bet DoDs.Collaborate closely with senior leaders in Product, Design, and Insights to provide impactful technical decisionmaking.Serve as a role model and effective communicator within the leadership team and the larger CV&E PA.Ensure a high quality, bug-free, end user experienceWho You AreA playful and innovative leader with experience managing a large area with multiple engineering teams, building mobile or web applications facing end users, with the challenges this brings in terms of quality and overall build approach.Experience in applying AI in a systematic way to software development and its key parts like creating product proof of concepts, creation of production code and build verification is a big plus.A collaborative team player who thrives on cross-functional work to deliver exceptional user experiences.Several years of experience of working with a strong consumer focused product team, finding the right balance between product requirements, tech strategy and effective delivery. You are passionate about building a really good end user experience.Passionate about teamwork and engineering, with the ability to inspire and drive a larger team forward.Experienced in leading large-scale web or mobile software engineering efforts and delivering on tight deadlines while maintaining a healthy team culture.Proficient in working with cross-functional leadership teams.Where You´ll BeThis role is based in Stockholm or London.We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best!
