ApplyJob TypeFull-timeDescriptionPrimary Objective:The primary objective of the director of fine arts at Whitefield Academy is to create and evolve vision and foster strategic growth for the fine arts programs while also ensuring alignment between the fine arts and Whitefield Academy’s Christ-centered, college prep mission. The director of fine arts oversees the program leads in all areas pertinent to program development, and he/she supports the department chair in areas related to curriculum, assessment, grading, etc. This person advocates for the fine arts on the leadership team through vision-casting, strategic planning, and collaboration across divisions and departments. The fine arts director also promotes Whitefield’s fine arts program within the community and aims to deepen external partnerships and networking off-campus. Aiming to foster unity and cohesion amongst all members of the fine arts faculty, the director of fine arts serves to deepen the understanding and appreciation of our God-given gifts and protects the mission of the School, ensuring that the School’s arts programming always glorifies God and edifies others.Key ResponsibilitiesPeople Leadership: Oversee all Program LeadsPlan, lead, and execute quarterly meetings with all program leads.Conduct one-on-one touchpoints with program leads throughout the year, as needed.Though arts program leads are teachers who are supervised by the school principals, this director will work in conjunction with the program leads to create and implement evaluation rubrics clarifying the expectations of the teacher’s role as an arts program lead. This rubric will aid in hiring, coaching, and evaluating program leads.Support all program leads as it relates to the following areas:Calendaring and alignment for performances and eventsBudgeting for each programPreparing programs and/or marketing/signage materials for performancesNetworking with external organizationsReserving spaces for performancesFoster a climate conducive to self-evaluation and professional growth (serve as an expert in the field of fine arts and provide resources and growth opportunities to program leads).Provide guidance for AV (Audio Visual) needs related to the support of fine arts performances and productions (both on-campus and off-campus).Create and foster strong teams and partnership amongst the program leads that promotes unity and support.Mediate among the competing needs of the fine arts program leads.People Leadership: Support the Fine Arts Department Chair and all fine arts teachersProvide support for the fine arts department chair in the areas of teaching and learning (i.e., curriculum, teaching methodology, classroom management, instructional technology, faith-learning integration, assessment, and grading).Conduct classroom observations, in conjunction with the department chair, to support each department member’s growth and learning, specifically related to stretch goals (includes all fine arts teachers in LS, MS, and US). Provide feedback from observations to teachers in a timely fashion. Support the department chair as he/she helps fine arts teachers create action plans to both build upon strengths and correct deficiencies in teaching.Communicate faculty and staff proficiencies/deficiencies to the division principals and assistant head of academics and student life.Support the department chair and academic dean as they seek to ensure alignment within the fine arts curriculum from PreK – 12th grade.Support the department chair in planning monthly department meetings, and attend all department meetings.Coordinate efforts with other staff to provide orientation and on-boarding, instructional support, and mentoring for new teachers.Ensure fine arts teachers maintain an inventory of equipment and materials, and that they manage their inventory within the timeframes and budget requirements necessary to ensure successful functioning of their classrooms and programs.Partner with HR to recruit and hire strong talent for fine arts positions who fit with the mission of the School. Assist in the recruitment, hiring, and development of faculty.Attend or facilitate administrative support for all on-campus and off-campus arts events. Teach a performing or fine arts class as determined by the director’s supervisor.Fine Arts Program Leadership and VisionStrategically develop long and short-range plans and programs for the arts consistent with the mission and vision of Whitefield Academy by identifying division specific needs, outlining visual and performing arts programs, and integrating curriculum and staffing to meet the program’s needs. Oversee the vision and plans for the fine arts as it relates to student schedules, future spaces, student experiences, class offerings and sizes, etc. Update and maintain the fine arts handbook.Respond to questions, concerns, and feedback from parents, students, faculty and staff for the purpose of providing information, assistance, clarity, and direction for the fine arts program.Set departmental objectives, assessments, and procedures consistent with the mission of the School and in collaboration with members of the department, assistant head of academic affairs, and division principals.Coordinate the fine arts calendar with all department members and ensure the use of appropriate spaces for classes, rehearsals, and performances through the School’s room reservation system.Oversee the planning and execution of Arts Day.Partner with fine arts and the marketing and communications teams in communicating upcoming events and the highlights of what is happening in the classroom and arts community (includes both weekly updates and announcements as well as large-scale projects for particular performances or events).Manage the overall fine arts department budget and support department faculty by helping them determine budget and resource needs and guiding them in submitting requests for funding.Work with multiple teams across campus, including facilities, operations, audio visual and technology in order to steward and care for fine arts spaces on campus. Reinstate and lead Whitefield’s Arts Alliance, developing parent and external relationships to ensure strong support of our fine arts programs.Ensure representation of the fine arts department at various functions, events, and meetings, including, but not limited to admissions events, development events, and board events.School LeadershipAttend leadership meetings with the school’s administration team.Partner with other departments on campus related to school-wide assemblies and chapels.Articulate fine arts strategies in achieving the mission and goals of the school. Serve as a productive member of the Academic and Student Life team.Other duties as assigned.RequirementsProfessional and Personal Attributes, Skills, Knowledge and Experience:Preferred Masters degree in Education, with specific experience in Performing Arts, Visual Arts, or similar field. Minimum of 8 years of experience working in academic institutions; at least 5 years leading a program, team, or division.
