Under the leadership of Mayor Kegan Schmicker, Tipton continues to invest in its people, infrastructure, and community amenities through forward-thinking initiatives designed to enhance quality of life, foster economic growth, and strengthen civic pride.Position SummaryThe Director of Special Projects will play a key leadership role in advancing the City's strategic priorities across three major areas: economic development, community development, and internal operations. This position ensures that Tipton's growth strategy is executed effectively through strong partnerships, efficient project delivery, and modernized internal operations. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, collaborative, and capable of managing multiple complex initiatives simultaneously.Key ResponsibilitiesEconomic Development•        Lead business recruitment, retention, and expansion initiatives aligned with the City's long-term goals.•        Prepare and deliver prospect proposals, incentive packages, and site information.•        Serve as liaison to the Tipton Redevelopment Commission, and state/regional partners.•        Collect and analyze market data to inform development strategies.Community Development•        Coordinate community revitalization and housing initiatives, including downtown activation efforts.•        Partner with community organizations, nonprofits, and residents to strengthen civic engagement.•        In conjunction with the City's Grant Writer, prepare and manage grant applications, budgets, and reporting for community-based projects.•        Support programs that enhance Tipton's quality of life and resident retention.Internal Operations Project Management•        Lead internal projects focused on improving city operations, communication, and service delivery.•        Oversee administrative modernization efforts such as policy updates, workflow digitization, and reporting systems.•        Coordinate interdepartmental projects, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.•        Support the City's transition to zero-based budgeting through improved process management and accountability tools.Qualifications•        Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Economic Development, Urban Planning, Business, or related field.•        3–5 years of relevant experience in economic development, municipal operations, or project management.•        Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.•        Proven ability to manage cross-departmental or multi-stakeholder projects.•        Familiarity with Indiana municipal operations, budgeting, and development tools preferred.
