With over 2,000 employees, the university is one of the largest employers in the region and offers a unique environment for teaching, study, research, and knowledge transfer.Role DescriptionTwo full-time on-site PhD positions are available at the Chair of Communication Engineering at the University of Siegen, Germany. Both positions are limited to three years and offer the opportunity to pursue a PhD degree within a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment.The research focuses on energy-efficient wireless communication technologies and radio-frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) for next-generation Internet of Things (IoT) and industrial applications. Depending on your background and interests, your PhD project will focus on one of the following areas:Wireless Communication and Sensor Systems: Design and characterization of antennas, backscatter communication, and wireless power transfer systems for sustainable and batteryless sensor networks.Radio-Frequency Integrated Circuits (RFICs): Design and analysis of low-power RF and microwave circuits, exploring system-on-chip (SoC) and system-in-package (SiP) integration concepts for highly efficient wireless devices.Both positions are part of the INCYTE Center for Nanoanalytics, Nanochemistry, and Cyber-Physical Sensor Technologies, offering access to state-of-the-art laboratories and close collaboration with researchers in materials science, nanotechnology, and electrical engineering.ResponsibilitiesConducting advanced research in one of the above areasModeling, design, and experimental characterization of wireless components and systemsPublishing results in scientific journals and presenting at international conferencesContributing to teaching activities and supervision of student projectsQualificationsMaster’s degree (M.Sc. or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent field of study (preferably with a focus on telecommunications, communications engineering, microelectronics, RF circuit design, or related areas)Fluency in English (spoken and written); knowledge of German is beneficial but not mandatoryHigh intrinsic motivation and enthusiasm for pursuing a PhD degree and conducting independent scientific researchStrong research interest in one or more of the following: wireless communication systems, antennas, wave propagation, sensor technologies, RF and microwave circuits, or low-power system integration (SoC/SiP)Proven research skills, including the ability to design, implement, and analyze experiments or simulationsStrong academic writing and publication capabilitiesEffective communication and teamwork skills for interdisciplinary collaborationStrong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
