Job Description

Job Title: Embedded Hardware Engineer (IoT Power Meter Development)About the RoleRooftop Energy is developing a new IoT power metering product line to power real-time load profiling and energy monitoring across commercial and industrial sites. We are looking for a hands-on Embedded Hardware Engineer who enjoys building circuits, testing electronics, writing microcontroller code, and turning early concepts into real working prototypes.This is our first embedded/hardware hire, and you will work closely with external senior engineering partners while taking ownership of day-to-day hardware development, prototyping, firmware integration, testing, and iteration. As the product scales, you will have the opportunity to grow into a senior or lead embedded engineer and help build the department from the ground up.We are a Great Place To Work® certified company, and this role includes profit sharing tied to the product line’s success, offering meaningful long-term upside. Subsidised lunches are provided.Key ResponsibilitiesHardware Prototyping & TestingAssemble and test prototype boards produced by external PCB vendors.Validate current/voltage sensing circuits, analog front-ends, and protection circuits.Use basic lab tools (multimeter, oscilloscope, probes – training provided).Perform calibration tests and assist in refining measurement accuracy.Document findings, test results, and proposed improvements.Embedded Firmware DevelopmentWrite firmware in C/C++ for microcontrollers (sensor reading, communication, basic logic).Work with SPI, UART, I2C, or RS485 interfaces.Configure and test measurement IC registers and communication flows based on datasheets.Debug early firmware + hardware interactions during prototyping.Mechanical & Enclosure SupportCreate simple enclosure designs or mounting concepts using CAD (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, etc.).Work with 3D-printing vendors to produce prototype housings.Support connector layout and technician-friendly ergonomics for field use.Manufacturing & Field DeploymentPrepare BOMs, wiring diagrams, assembly guides, and QC checklists.Work with fabrication partners for small-batch production.Assist in pilot deployments, collect performance data, and troubleshoot field issues.Continuously improve hardware reliability based on real-world data.Ownership & GrowthTake active ownership of the hardware product line and drive continuous improvement.Grow with the company into a senior embedded/hardware role.Help establish foundational engineering practices as the team expands.RequirementsMust HaveDiploma/Degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Mechatronics Engineering.Understanding of basic analog electronics (filters, dividers, op-amps, sensing circuits).Experience with microcontrollers (ESP32, STM32, Arduino, etc.).Familiarity with SPI/UART/I2C or RS485 communication.Ability to read datasheets and follow reference circuits.Some CAD experience for simple enclosure design.A strong hands-on attitude, you enjoy building, soldering, testing, and debugging.Nice to HaveAcademic or hobby PCB design experience.Knowledge of CTs, current sensing, or energy measurement concepts.Exposure to IoT modules (WiFi, LTE, NB-IoT).Basic Python/scripting for testing automation.Experience working with lab tools (oscilloscope experience is a plus).Who Will Thrive in This RoleSomeone early in their engineering career who wants real ownership and impact.A builder/tinkerer who loves making things work in the real world.A fast learner who wants to become a lead Embedded Hardware Engineer over time.Someone who appreciates a supportive workplace — Rooftop Energy is Great Place To Work® certified.Someone who enjoys meaningful work in clean energy and IoT technologies.What You’ll GetProfit sharing once the product line goes live (unlimited upside)Subsidised lunches.Rapid learning through hands-on development and mentorship from external senior engineers.A chance to build Rooftop Energy’s hardware capability from the ground up.Fast career growth opportunities as the product scales.Work in a high-trust, people-first environment within a Great Place To Work® certified company.How to ApplySend your resume and any project/portfolio links (GitHub, project photos, PCB designs, CAD models, etc.) to:👉 recruitment@rooftop.my
