Job Description

Job SummaryResponsible for receiving emergency and non-emergency calls, determining the nature and/or severity of the call, and dispatching emergency services by using radio and telecommunications systems to transmit details to appropriate emergency services departments/personnel to respond as needed.Job DutiesReceives incoming calls and determines the nature of the emergency.ÂExercise strong problem-solving and customer service skills and have the ability to work well in stressful situations.ÂDetermines the location and type of call, which the responding agency should be, and the most efficient and safest route to the scene.ÂDispatches the appropriate agency and coordinates with other public safety agencies.ÂDetermine if other responders are required, such as law enforcement officers, medical responders, firefighters, tow trucks, and dispatch other services if needed.ÂCommunicates with emergency staff to assure timeliness of service.ÂMust be detailed-oriented to relay the proper information to the correct agency.ÂPrioritizes requests for services.ÂOperates computer dispatch systems efficiently to obtain information for law enforcement, fire and rescue operations, and emergency medical services.ÂMaintains appropriate paperwork as required.ÂCompiles and tabulates data as necessary.ÂComplies with the applicable state, tribal, and federal regulations in regard to the security, safety, and confidentiality of any record they create, maintain, transfer, or destroy, whether the record is written, taped, computerized, or stored in any other medium.ÂParticipates in peer-interviewing and helps select staff for the Emergency Communications Department.ÂParticipate in training sessions as assigned.ÂPerforms other duties as assigned.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNo supervisory responsibility.QualificationsEDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT High school diploma or general education degree (GED); no exceptions.Experience RequirementNo additional experience required.Computer SkillsAn individual should know Internet software, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets the requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.Must obtain certifications in Oklahoma Law Enforcement Telecommunications System (OLETS) and/or Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) within one year of hire date.ÂMust possess the National Incident Management System (NIMS) certifications below:ICS-100: Introduction to the Incident Command SystemICS-200: ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action IncidentsIS-700: National Incident Management System An IntroductionOther QualificationsThe employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).ÂMust be able to operate computers, have basic clerical training, and basic telecommunications training.ÂKnowledge of Law Enforcement ten code preferred.ÂMust abide by the Office of the Marshal staff code of conduct, embrace and implement the Home/Health/Hope Cherokee Nation Strategy.ÂPHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds.
