We build intricate solutions to streamline Stripe’s internal workflows, enabling over 8,000 human agents to make informed decisions about how different actors use our products—ensuring compliance with laws and Stripe’s policies.Our work tackles high-impact challenges, such as enabling the efficient decision making and action on preventing illegal transactions (e.g., fraud, drugs, weapons, and terrorism financing), and and other risks in the financial landscape—all with the goal of resolving issues quickly and correctly for our merchants and their clients. Full ownership is the ultimate green flag for us, but here’s some high level expectations we have:What you will do * Recruit, coach, and develop a team of exceptional engineers. Lead the development of Stripe's operations tooling providing reliable, user-first surfaces that just feel natural Cultivating a culture of engineering excellence, innovation, and user empathy Drive your engineering team towards exceptional technical quality, reliability, scalability, and operational excellence. Provide hands-on technical leadership to your engineering team across multiple areas, including architecture, design, code reviews, quality assurance, and incident management.Who you areWe’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.Minimum Requirements8+ years of professional hands-on software development experience2+ years of experience leading software engineering teamsHands-on experience designing and building large scale distributed systemsA track record of managing and mentoring junior and senior engineersCustomer obsession, ability to articulate and represent customer experience in various forums to drive the right outcome that benefits our customers.A track record of attracting and hiring top talents, and growing teamsDemonstrated ability of defining & driving complex initiatives/projects across multiple teamsProven success with cross-discipline and cross-team collaborations.Preferred QualificationsExperience building and operating highly-scalable data-intensive services.Experience building and operating observability solutions, such designing/building telemetry collections, data transport and storage solutions and composable UI architectures.It’s not expected that you’ll have deep expertise in every dimension above, but you should be interested in learning any of the areas that are less familiar.In-office expectationsOffice-assigned Stripes in most of our locations are currently expected to spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This expectation may vary depending on role, team and location. For example, Stripes in our Bucharest, Romania site have an 80% in-office expectation, and those in Stripe Delivery Center roles in Mexico City, Mexico and Bengaluru, India work 100% from the office. Also, some teams have greater in-office attendance requirements, to appropriately support our users and workflows, which the hiring manager will discuss. This approach helps strike a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility when possible.Pay and benefitsStripe does not yet include pay ranges in job postings in every country. Stripe strongly values pay transparency and is working toward pay transparency globally.
