Working together, we’ll create a future that’s more connected, more intelligent, more sustainable for everyone.Role SummaryAs a Field Application Engineer in Berlin, you’ll be the technical front line connecting Rivian vehicles, charging infrastructure, and digital platforms with European customers, partners, and installers. You’ll collaborate with software teams to integrate new features at the vehicle level, validate integrations, diagnose complex field issues, and feed critical insights back to product and engineering to accelerate high-quality releases across Germany and the EU.This position requires a 5-day per week, mandatory onsite presence at our Berlin office.ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with software developers to integrate new software features at the vehicle level; support bring-up for new vehicle programs.Lead efforts to diagnose field issues and work cross-functionally with engineering, product, support, and service to drive rapid resolutions.Define and execute vehicle test cases for new features; track feature maturity and maintain a robust catalog of regression test cases to ensure release quality.Create test scripts for post-processing vehicle data using scripting languages such as Python; produce clear incident timelines and reproducible steps.Gather and analyze data from embedded communication systems (e.g., CAN, Ethernet) and vehicle telemetry stored in the cloud; use tools like Vector CANalyzer, PCAN, Vector CANape, and Wireshark.Deploy, configure, and validate integrations across charging and vehicle interfaces, mobile SDKs, and cloud APIs; capture logs, isolate defects, and drive root-cause analysis with durable fixes.Train partner engineers and installers; author and continuously improve runbooks, quick-starts, and field guides tailored for German/EU deployments.Support pre-sales with feasibility assessments, integration scope, and solution proposals; de-risk pilots through lab reproduction and staged rollouts.Uphold safety, security, and compliance in field work; coordinate controlled access and maintenance windows with internal stakeholders and partners.QualificationsA Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.3+ years of experience working with control systems; automotive or aerospace experience preferred.Working experience with communication bus monitoring tools (e.g., Vector CANalyzer, PCAN or equivalent) and software calibration tools (e.g., Vector CANape or equivalent).Strong understanding of electromechanical systems; familiarity with EV subsystems including Battery Management System and Thermal Management System.Experience coding in Python and C/C++; comfort with Linux/CLI, cURL/Postman, log aggregation, and basic network diagnostics.Systems troubleshooting across software, hardware, and networks; proficiency in at least two of: CAN/CAN FD, LIN, UDS/DoIP, TCP/IP, TLS/mTLS, REST/GraphQL, gRPC, MQTT.Fluency in English and professional proficiency in German; excellent written and verbal communication with customers and cross-functional teams.Ability to travel up to 40-50% within Germany and the EU for on-site validation, enablement, and escalated incident response.BonusExperience with EVSE commissioning and DC fast charging, including Tap-to-Pay readiness; awareness of PSD2 implications for integrations.Knowledge of security for field systems (certificate lifecycle, secure firmware updates, secrets management) and GDPR-aware data handling of logs and diagnostics.Experience in customer-facing engineering roles (Field Application Engineering, Solutions/Partner Engineering, Systems Integration) in EV, robotics, or industrial domains.Company Statements - JVEqual OpportunityRivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
