For more information, please see www.greenpeace.org.About the roleThe role has a regional scope and contributes to ensuring the integrity and accuracy of Greenpeace Nordic's financial information, with a focus on Grants and Funding Management. The role will lead the grants management process from inception to final reporting and audit, including assisting the Finance Director (FD) with budget, planning of the Organisational Development Plan (ODP), and the year-end submission to Greenpeace International.The Financial Controller will also serve as the primary liaison between the Finance and Fundraising departments, ensuring effective collaboration and seamless coordination for grant writing, budgeting, and reporting activities.Your tasks and responsibilities will include:Quality assurance. Verifies consistency of the accounting data and the backing documentation with our applicable policies and procedures.Grant Management and Compliance. Oversees grants administration from inception to completion, ensuring all activities adhere to the funder’s rules and guidelines, manages grant budgets, tracks spending, and keeps detailed records of incoming and outgoing payments.Interoffice account. Assist the Senior Accountants with the interoffice account reconciliations with Greenpeace International and NROs. Ensure figures are in-line with the contributions and grants as per the respective written agreements. Plan and execute interoffice repayments according to our cash flow position and forecast for the year.Bank accounts and cash flow. Monitor cash balances in our bank accounts across the region and coordinate internal transfers for the purposes of ensuring adequate balances for the operation, but also to minimise exchange rates costs and other risks exposure.Business partner to internal staff. Support and advice staff on all relevant policies, procedures, and compliance regulations for handling financial matters. While the Senior Accountants are the first line of response for operational matters, the Finance Controller steps in to analyse and recommend the course of action in exceptional instances that may lack precedent or a predefined procedure, with a focus on grants management.Audit. Liaise with our external auditors to produce the financial statements and all documentation related with the year-end pack for Greenpeace International, and coordinate with the Senior Accountants preparation and submission of all documentation for the annual audit.External reporting and compliance. In connection to the audit and preparation of the financial statements, this position leads the compilation of our Annual Report, as well as any other external compliance requirements (e.g. reporting to GIVA and the Svensk Insamlingskontroll).Budgets and planning. Assists the FD in the compilation of the annual budget into the ODP for submission to Greenpeace International.Legal entities set up. Assists the FD to ensure our legal entities across the region are adequately set up to meet local requirements, particularly in the areas of taxation and specific regulations for non-profit organisations.Confidentiality and diligent handling of resources. The Financial Controller, by the nature of the role, has access to confidential and sensitive information and hence has the responsibility of holding a high standard of confidentiality and discretion.Collaboration. Serve as the primary link between the Finance and Fundraising departments, ensuring effective collaboration and seamless coordination for grant writing, budgeting, and reporting activities.Other responsibilities:Support documentation of accounting SOPs (standard operating procedures) and other knowledge management efforts to ensure operational continuity.Undertake any other duties commensurate with the position as delegated by the FD, upholding a principle that up to 20% of the working time can be spent on work outside one’s immediate area of responsibility.Role behaviors:Able to communicate effectively with colleagues in order to support and advise staff, inform them of deviations from budgeted results, or request better/more compliance when necessary.Team player.Builds constructive and long-term relationships with all parties involved in the job.Demonstrates high integrity and professionalism.Excellent problem-solving skills.Capable of working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.Achievement towards measurable objectives both individually and as part of the team.Solid understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, both as per local regulations and as per Greenpeace's standards and apply them into daily accounting operation.Values diversity through having experience with and commitment to cultural diversity.Qualification (Knowledge and skills needed in this position):Strong Accounting and Grants Management SkillsProficiency in accounting software and MS Office applications, particularly in Excel.Presentation and reporting skills.Attention to Details and Analytical skills.Fluency in written and spoken English.Knowledge and understanding of the NGO sector - particularly in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland.Requisite Education and Experience:At least seven years of generic accounting working experience, of which minimum five years in Grants Management role.Professional Accounting Certification or Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.Other requirements:Identification with Greenpeace goals and supportive of Greenpeace values.Additional information:The role is initially on 12 months fixed term, with a possibility of becoming permanent, and with an ideal start date in January 2026.Last day to apply is December 9- 2025, and we kindly request that you submit your application in English.If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with Nazrene Abdullah (Finance Director, Greenpeace Nordic) at nazrene.abdullah@greenpeace.org.
