This role is responsible for providing clear financial insights, reliable reporting, and strong financial controls that support confident operational and strategic decision-making. The Controller serves as the primary point of accountability for financial records, compliance, and reporting, and provides leadership and guidance to the accounting team to ensure consistent, high-quality financial operations.  In this role you will be responsible for the following: Financial Reporting & Controls:  Lead month-end close and internal financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and reliable financial records. Review and complete high-level journal entries, including capital asset additions, amortization schedules, accruals, and reclassifications to ensure accurate month-end reporting. Coordinate annual insurance renewals and maintain accurate policy documentation and coverage records. Project Job Costing & WIP: Maintain accurate job costing and WIP schedules and review project performance with Business Unit Managers to support informed forecasting and accountability. Cash Flow & Transactional Oversight: Oversee AR, AP, payroll, and banking activities, ensuring accurate labour allocation and payroll compliance, and provide clear, proactive cash flow visibility to leadership. Budgeting & Financial Analysis: Support annual budgeting and reforecasting cycles and provide cost analysis and scenario modeling to assist operational planning. Systems & Process Improvement: Strengthen accounting processes, documentation, and reporting workflows; support system improvements (e.g., Spectrum / Traqspera). Leadership & Collaboration: Provide clear direction, coaching, and follow-through to the accounting team, build strong working relationships across the organization, and support and collaborate with Operation Leaders and Senior Management.  Qualifications CPA designation required 8-10 years of progressive finance experience, with recent experience in the construction or civil infrastructure industry.  3-5 years proven controller experience.  Direct experience managing job costing and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting.   Proven oversight of project-based financial performance and forecasting. Advanced Excel and financial analysis capability. Experience working in Spectrum (Trimble) ERP system is an asset. Experience using AI applications as tools is an asset. Demonstrated capability leading small teams and improving systems or processes  Working Conditions & Physical Requirements  This position is based on-site at our Acheson office to support close collaboration with Operations, Business Unit Managers, and Leadership. Standard Monday–Friday schedule, with additional time as needed during month-end, year-end, and budgeting periods. Occasional site visits may occur to understand project context, build relationships, and support job cost visibility (PPE provided). Work involves computer-based tasks, meetings, reporting, and regular communication across teams.  What it takes to Succeed  You value clarity, consistency, and disciplined financial processes and you follow through. You communicate in a clear, respectful, and direct way, especially with non-financial team members. You are comfortable asking questions, verifying details, and ensuring accuracy even when timelines are tight. You build strong working relationships by showing up reliably and supporting shared accountability. You are steady under pressure, organized in your approach, and comfortable navigating evolving priorities. You are open to continuously improving systems and innovating processes and are willing to grow with the role as the company continues to scale.
