The City of Iqaluit is looking for an experienced individual to join our growing team and city as a Firefighter / Emergency Medical Responder. The Iqaluit Fire Department is establishing a Firefighter Eligibility Pool. We are an equal opportunity employer and welcome all qualified individuals to apply.Under the direction of the Chief Officers, the incumbent(s) will report to their immediate supervisor, and are responsible for fire/rescue response, pre-hospital emergency medical care, fire prevention, public education, fire inspection and other duties as assigned. The incumbent(s) will also be responsible for performing minor maintenance of apparatus, small equipment, building and grounds, and call taking / dispatching appropriate emergency and non-emergency personnel.     Required Qualifications: Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) Certification,Current CPR HCPNFPA 1001 Fire fighter level INFPA 1001 Fire fighter Level IINFPA 472 or 1072 Hazardous Materials OperationsValid Class 3 Drivers LicenseAir brake endorsementCanadian Citizenship or Landed Immigrant StatusProof of Grade 12, equivalent or betterDriver’s Abstract reflective of no more than six points within the last three yearsCriminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector (within last 6 months)Ability to operate communications equipment Preferred Qualifications (equivalent or better): Post-secondary education completionApprenticeship or trade certification PCP or ACP certificationNFPA 1002 Fire Apparatus Driver Operator (recommended)Proven ability to work in a team environmentVolunteer work in the communityDemonstrated experience as a firefighterKnowledge of City of Iqaluit - geography, location of streets / addresses, major buildings and hazardsSkilled in operating and maintaining heavy equipment and/or commercial vehiclesSkilled in the use and operation of hand tools, power tools and portable equipmentAbility to operate communications equipmentThe successful candidate must possess good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work under stressful and emergency situations. The ability to communicate in Inuktitut or French is an asset.This position currently works 4 days on and 4 off, with two day and two night shifts.  Dependability and flexibility is required and may be subject to overtime.
