Position InformationTitle GIS Technician Job Status Temporary Full Time Position OverviewThe City of North Vancouver is the urban core of the beautiful North Shore and has a long-term vision to be “The Healthiest Small City in the World”, with five key priorities to be a City for People, a Resilient City, a Vibrant City, a Connected City and a Prosperous City.The Corporate Services Department – Information Technology Division is looking for a temporary full-time GIS Technician for approximately one year.ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Manager, Data Services, the GIS Technician applies advanced skills in Esri’s ArcGIS software and a strong attention to data accuracy to support the management of the City’s engineering assets. The role is responsible for creating and maintaining spatial and attribute data, preparing maps and reports, performing spatial analyses, consulting with end users to clarify information requests, and providing end-user support and training as needed. Practical knowledge of scripting within the GIS environment will assist in streamlining asset-related GIS processes and enhancing the accuracy and integrity of the City’s engineering asset data.RequirementsThe successful candidate will have completed a diploma or degree in a related discipline supplemented by an advanced GIS post diploma program. Related work experience, preferably in a municipal environment, is required, along with considerable knowledge of Esri’s ArcGIS platform (ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online); relational databases; and programming languages such as Python. Strong cartographic skills and the ability to interpret as-built drawings, are essential.
