The technologies that we constantly invest in include: fibre transmission, high speed broadband, mobile , radio , TV and IP networks.We are currently seeking Graduate Design Engineers to join our Engineering Dept. So, if you are looking for an exciting place to work, working on the forefront of technology and a place where you can develop your skills working as an Engineer, please consider this role.Role Description:The design, development and delivery of telecommunications solutions, working within a team of Design & Operations Engineers in the Fixed (Broadband Design, IP Design, IP Products, IPTV, ISP Services, Optical Transmission) or Core (Advanced Voice & Mobile Data services and Infrastructure services) teams of the Chief Technology Officer function. This includes specification of design solutions, evaluation of vendor and partner technical capability, development of migration plans, configuration and data-build, capacity management, operational and performance management and advanced design support throughout the network life cycle.Nature and Scope:Technology solutions are critical to eir’s performance. Design Engineers are central to the implementation and support of those solutions. The role purpose will include the design, dimensioning, test specification, documentation and maintenance of new and amended networks, platforms and related systems that provide the basis of all network products offered by the eir Group. The design specifications will be carried out in accordance with agreed international and best practice standards, and strategic policies. The quality, operational efficiency, usability and cost of ownership of all network solutions are key indicators of success. Successful candidates are expected to continually develop their skills and experience, implement best practice methodologies in an agile manner and evolve innovative network solutions efficiently and effectively to meet customer expectations.TechnicalDevelopment of designs and configurations based on Strategies, Architectures and High Level Designs defined by CTODevelopment of migration plans for customers, traffic and services as relevantPrepare detailed specifications, estimates, designs, record structures, triggers, rules, interfaces, resilience and contingency plans as relevantDevelop relevant scripts, configurations, data-build, quality standards and acceptance criteria, to support required solutionsPerform capacity management, including hardware, memory and processor loadHardware & Software lifecycle Release managementDesign solutions ensuring the highest possible availability achievable within the budget.Leverage best telecommunications technology practices, including the specification of non-functional requirements. e.g. operational performance.ProjectPlan, manage and delivery all projects in line with eir project management guidelines with focus on stakeholder engagement, test strategies, documentation and reporting Customer Develop all network solutions with focus on end customer experienceProvide technical guidance and expertise to all areas of the eir group as relevantSupportProvide operational support as relevant for network platforms and solutions in lifeImplement project initiatives compliant with best practice operational and change managementVendor ManagementThe management of external parties to ensure delivery of agreed design solutions to meet project deadlines.Management of technology inputs to RFQ, RFI and RFP processes, and evaluation of Technical and commercial responses.Interaction with vendors on development roadmaps and design supportGeneralEnsure compliance with Health & Safety processesAlign with eir Group culture and values to drive the customer ethos, vision, mission and culture of the organisation to ensure successful growth and retention of its customers.Role Specific Technical SkillsRelevant Third-level qualification, or equivalent professional experience (FETAC level 8 or higher) in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Telecommunications, Computing or similarAbility to develop the capability to provide effective input to Reference network Architecture from design and monitoring network compliance with the architecture.Ability to deliver effective technology vendor management, selection and roadmap developmentAbility to support technology bid/product responsesAbility to effectively deliver cost reduction on technology platformsAbility to effectively exploit fixed and mobile technology network monitoring systems and technology optimisationOperational On call responsibility may be a future requirement of this role, upon successful completion of a period of upskilling.Terms of AppointmentIndividual terms.
