Job Description:About The London Art Portfolio AcademyThe London Art Portfolio Academy is a specialised Art & Design education institution focusing on creative Art & Design and portfolio development for students aspiring to enter leading UK and international art universities, particularly the University of the Arts London (UAL).To support our continuous growth, we invite applications from experienced, committed, and creative education professionals to join our leadership team in West Kowloon as Head or Assistant Head of Art School.Candidates with substantial leadership experience and outstanding qualifications will be appointed Head of Art School, while those with less experience but strong potential will be considered for the Assistant Head role. A clear development pathway to the Head position is available for high-performing Assistant Heads.Job DescriptionThe Head / Assistant Head of Art School will play a key leadership role in the Academy’s academic direction, programme quality, and day-to-day operations, ensuring excellence in teaching, learning, and student support within a studio-based Art & Design environment.Key Responsibilities Lead or assist in planning, implementing, and reviewing the overall academic strategy, curriculum design, and quality assurance for Art & Design and portfolio programmes. Lead and support a team of Art & Design tutors with international and professional backgrounds, including mentoring, lesson observation, feedback, and professional development planning. Oversee the design and delivery of studio-based, project-driven learning that develops students’ conceptual thinking, visual research, experimentation, and portfolio outcomes aligned with top UK Art & Design university standards. Monitor and drive student learning outcomes, including admission offers to leading overseas Art & Design programmes, through structured assessments, portfolio reviews, mock interviews, and progression tracking. Communicate effectively with students, providing clear academic and progression advice and representing the Academy at briefings, talks, consultations, and events. Plan, curate, and execute student exhibitions, showcases, and related events to highlight student work and promote the Academy’s profile. Support marketing and outreach initiatives (e.g. talks, workshops, school visits, information sessions) where academic input is required. Ensure adherence to institutional policies, health and safety, safeguarding, and other compliance requirements within studios, classrooms, and events. Undertake other academic, operational, and strategic duties as assigned by senior management.RequirementsAcademic & Professional Background Degree or above in Fine Art, Design, Fashion, Graphic Design, Illustration, Jewellery, Media Arts, or a related Art & Design discipline. A Master’s degree or overseas Art & Design education background is highly preferred. Being a graduate of University of the Arts London (UAL) will be considered a significant advantage. A minimum of 8 years of experience in the Art & Design industry, with substantial involvement in creative practice, education, or portfolio development. Experience in tertiary education (e.g. university, foundation, pre-degree, higher diploma level) and success in guiding students into competitive Art & Design programmes are particularly valued. Prior leadership or coordination experience (e.g. Head, Programme Leader, Assistant Head, or similar position) is advantageous and will determine the level of appointment.Skills & Competencies Strong understanding of creative Art & Design pedagogy, portfolio development, and the expectations of selective UK Art & Design universities. Proven ability to lead, motivate, and mentor a diverse team of creative professionals and tutors. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with students, tutors, and external partners in a cross-cultural environment. High level of organisation and time management, able to manage multiple classes, projects, and events simultaneously. Confidence in curriculum planning, project design, and assessment frameworks for Art & Design and portfolio-focused programmes. Demonstrated success in supporting students in achieving strong portfolios and offers from reputable overseas institutions is a strong plus.Language & IT Good command of spoken and written English is essential, as all courses are taught in English. Proficiency in standard office applications and familiarity with digital tools for teaching, communication, and administration.Personal Attributes Passionate about art, design, and creative education, with a genuine commitment to nurturing young creatives. Collaborative team player with high professional standards and alignment with the Academy’s mission and values.Remuneration and Progression An attractive remuneration package, including a performance-based bonus, will be offered, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Outstanding candidates will be appointed as Head of Art School, while promising candidates will join as Assistant Head with a well-defined pathway to promotion.
