Job Description

Purpose of the role:The Head Nurse oversees the delivery of high-quality nursing care within assigned units, ensures compliance with policies and regulatory standards, manages nursing staff performance and schedules, and promotes a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.Key responsibilities of the role:Supervise and support charge nurses ,RN staff and the health care assistant. Ensure appropriate staff coverage and delegation.Develop and implement unit-specific goals aligned with hospital strategic objectives.Monitor nursing practice, resolve patient/family concerns, and ensure individualized care plans.Conduct audits, review documentation, and ensure compliance with MOH, CBAHI, and CARF.Identify educational needs, support competency programs, and conduct performance evaluations.Facilitate orientation for new staff and mentor junior nursesFacilitate regular staff meetings, open communication, and recognition of achievements.Support ongoing training and in-service education by facilitating coordination and ensuring staff attendance.Take the lead in safety initiatives, including incident reporting and investigations, as well as overseeing infection control measures and implementing fall prevention strategies.Monitor performance indicators and create improvement plans based on outcomes.Ensure optimal use of supplies, equipment, and workforce within the unit.Monitor unit spending, track consumables usage, and assist in budget planning.Participate in rounds, handovers, case conferences, and quality improvement meetings.Ensure team follows organizational policies and national regulations.Ensure staff are oriented and acknowledge changes in the policies and clinical practice guidelines.Encourage respectful communication and family-centred care.Address patient complaints promptly and professionally.Monitor and improve patient satisfaction metrics through feedback tools and follow-up.Promote safe work practices and address environmental safety issues.Qualifications & Experience:Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required, master’s in nursing or healthcare management is a plus. With minimum 5 years of clinical nursing experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory or charge nurse role.
