WE LOVE and LIVE TO PLAY!Position OverviewThe Human Resources Generalist plays a key role in shaping the AAFS experience for our team of over 45 Full and Part-time employees. Reporting to the Director of Operations, this full-time (40 hours per week) role offers flexibility and the opportunity to make a real impact. You’ll lead initiatives across employee relations, engagement, talent acquisition, and development, ensuring every HR program aligns with AAFS’s mission and strategic goals. This is a dynamic, purpose-driven environment where you’ll help our people thrive and our community grow.Key ResponsibilitiesRecruitment & Hiring: Collaborate with the Director of Operations in the development and administration of HR policies and practices, ensuring compliance with current legislation, society values, AAFS culture, work environment, and the needs of both staff, volunteers, and practicum students.Lead recruitment efforts for Social Experience Guides and specialized positions, volunteers and practicums as needed. Develop and implement effective hiring strategies for neurodivergent-focused roles. Manage the full recruitment cycle from job posting to the onboarding experience. Coordinate with program coordinators on staffing needs and ratios. People & Culture: Serve as a trusted, independent, and confidential resource for employees and managers, helping address a wide range of workplace issues and supporting a positive, effective work environment.Provide guidance on conflict resolution, performance, communication, and team relationships, including participating in dispute mediation and collaborating with leaders on appropriate actions.Partner with the Director of Operations on organizational development and strategic HR initiatives.Support the development of leadership capabilities and performance management practices by advising and coaching leaders on effective people management and issue resolution.Contribute to ongoing HR planning and culture initiatives that align with our CARES philosophy.Coordinate staff training and engagement initiatives, including monthly syncs, annual summer summits, workshops, and compliance training.Manage employee relations matters with professionalism, empathy, and discretion.Payroll Support:On a bi-weekly schedule, collect, verify, and input employee timesheets, leave records, and compensation changes to ensure accurate payroll runs.Manage employee data through a third party to ensure timely and compliant payroll processing. Liaise with Accounting staff to ensure federal and provincial payroll legislation to ensure deductions, remittances, and reporting are accurate and lawful.Address employee questions about pay, deductions, and tax forms (T4s, TD1s, etc.), resolving issues with clarity and confidentiality.Compliance & Policy:Maintain HR policies and procedures.Participate in health and safety initiatives and ensure workplace compliance with applicable legislation. This position supports AAFS occupational health and safety (OHS) programs, policies including maintaining and analyzing incident reports, tracking and WHMIS program.Ensure compliance with mandatory training (emergency first aid, abuse protocol, emergency restraints).HR Administration:Maintain accurate, confidential employee records in compliance with privacy and retention requirements.Prepare employment letters, contracts, and HR communications.Support benefits administration, leave tracking, and related documentation.Maintain HR systems, data accuracy, and reporting to ensure seamless HR operations.Schedule & Work Arrangement:40 hours per week with flexible scheduling, and access to health benefits.Core hours may include some overlap with monthly staff syncs and training sessions, and may require some evening/weekend work.Potential for hybrid work arrangement (to be discussed) Qualifications & Role Requirements:Post-secondary degree or certificate in Human Resources or a related field.2–3 years of progressive HR experience; CPHR or SHRM designation is an asset.Experience in the non-profit or community-based sector is a plus.Strong relationship-building, communication, and problem-solving skills.Professional, approachable, and customer-service oriented.Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters with discretion and professionalism.Proven experience across key HR areas such as performance management, coaching, and employee relations.Why Join Us?Make a meaningful impact in the non-profit sector while gaining hands-on experience across all HR functions.Take ownership of HR processes and help shape initiatives in a collaborative, purpose-driven environment.Flexible work schedule, onsite parking, casual business dress, and benefits.Salary range: To be discussed during the interviewWork Conditions:Primarily seated at a desk with computer-based work.Exposure to occasional loud noises during certain parts of the day.Are you a people-centred problem solver with proven HR experience, strong business acumen, and the ability to build trusting relationships across all levels of an organization?
