IT Systems Engineer

Position Summary We are seeking a versatile Network, Systems and Support Engineer with service desk leadership. Expertise in Microsoft 365 administration, Windows Server environments, and enterprise networking. This role requires a technical professional capable of supporting our hybrid infrastructure, ensuring seamless integration between cloud services and on-premises systems while maintaining optimal performance and security.We require candidates to be fluent in both English & German.This is a hybrid role, requiring 2/3 days a week on site.About ClientGlobal Pharmaceutical businessKey Duties & Responsibilities Network Infrastructure Management:Design, configure, and maintain routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless networks.Monitor network performance, troubleshoot latency, packet loss, and connectivity issues.Implement and manage VLANs, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), and QoS policies.Ensure network security by configuring firewalls (Cisco ASA, Sophos, Fortinet), IDS/IPS, and NAC solutions.Perform network capacity planning and scalability assessments.Server & Systems Administration:Deploy, manage, and maintain Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) and Terminal server environments.Administer Active Directory, O365, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, and Azure AD.Manage virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, Nutanix).Implement backup, disaster recovery (DR), and high-availability (HA) solutions.Service Desk LeadershipResolve Tier 2/3 escalations for complex O365/network/server issuesMentor junior staff on root cause analysis methodologiesMaintain knowledge base with advanced troubleshooting guidesAnalyse ticket trends to proactively address recurring problemsImplement self-service solutions for common issuesSecurity & Compliance:Apply security patches, firmware updates, and vulnerability remediations.Enforce Zero Trust, least privilege access, and network segmentation.Automation & Optimization:Automate repetitive tasks using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or Ansible.Optimize server and network performance through load balancing, caching, and traffic shaping.Document network diagrams, configurations, and operational proceduresCollaboration & Support:Work with IT teams to resolve escalated Tier 3 infrastructure issues.Assist in data center migrations, cloud transitions, and network upgrades.Provide guidance to junior engineers and service desk teamEducationBSc/BA in IT, Computer Science or relevant fieldExperience3-5 years total experience in combined systems/network administration2+ years specifically managing O365 environments (SharePoint/Teams)3+ years Windows Server administration in production environmentsNetwork troubleshooting experience with Wireshark/ping/traceroutePowerShell scripting proficiency for automation tasksFunctional/Technical Competencies & Skillsets Network Infrastructure (3+ years configuration/troubleshooting experience)Routing/Switching: VLAN configuration, STP, OSPF, BGP (basic)Firewalls: Policy management, VPN configuration, threat preventionWireless: WLAN controller management, RF optimizationMonitoring: SNMP, NetFlow, packet capture analysisSD-WAN: Basic configuration and troubleshootingActive Directory: Domain services, group policy management, LDAP integrationServer Infrastructure: Hyper-V storages, Terminal servers, RDSCore Services: DNS/DHCP management, certificate services, print servicesSecurity: Patch management, security baselinesTroubleshooting: Event log analysis, performance monitoring.Behavioral CompetenciesCustomer intimacy: Ability to understand what value your customer wants and how you can deliver it.Simplify & Act with urgency: Critique existing practices / systems for ease of implementation and be responsive.Global mindset: Individual qualities, communication skills, and actionable knowledge that influences multicultural individuals, groups, and organizations.Act as owner: Demonstrate ownership of resources and decisions, be empowered to drive business outcomes.Adapt to change: Comfort of working in ambiguous and rapidly changing workenvironment, displaying willingness and positive attitude
