Role: Junior AccountantLocation: Cape Town, South AfricaWorking pattern: Office based 5 days a weekWorking hours: 11am - 8pm SAST (9am - 6pm UK)Employment Type: Full-timeReporting to: Operations Manager, UKOverviewOur client, a growing UK-based accounting services firm, is seeking a highly capable Junior Accountant to join their team out of Cape Town, South Africa. You will join a team of two existing junior accountants in the Cape Town office and this role will form part of building a high-quality finance function to support their scaling operations.The role is ideal for university graduates who hold a BCom degree or any finance-related certifications and who show strong foundational knowledge in bookkeeping and a desire to grow within a fast-paced, international environment. You'll be working closely with UK colleagues and adhering to British accounting standards and practices.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform day-to-day bookkeeping for a portfolio of UK clientsMaintain accurate financial records including general ledger entries, bank reconciliations, and journalsAssist in the preparation of VAT returns and management accountsReconcile accounts payable and receivableEnsure timely and accurate data entry into accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks)Support with monthly close processes and audit preparationCommunicate regularly with the UK finance team to clarify transactions and resolve queriesEnsure adherence to local and UK compliance and accounting standardsCandidate ProfileRequired Skills & Experience:University degree or qualification in Accounting, Bookkeeping or Finance fieldProven work experience with bookkeeping, accounts payable or accounting experience is advantageous Strong written and verbal communication skills in EnglishUnderstanding of UK based accounting standardsStrong understanding of bookkeeping principles and reconciliation techniquesProficiency or strong understanding of Microsoft Excel and experience with cloud accounting software (Xero is very advantageous, QuickBooks, or similar)High attention to detail with consistency in outputProactive mindset with the ability to work independently while aligning with a remote UK teamPreferred Traits:University graduates who showing strong potential and eagerness to kick off their professional career or candidates who are in the early stages of their finance careerComfortable in an office-based environment that fosters team cohesion and mentorshipAdaptable, with a growth mindset and a collaborative attitudeBased in Cape Town and comfortable working from a dedicated co-working space office 5 days a week
