For more than a century, we've supported learners across Aotearoa — evolving from lessons once delivered on horseback to today's future focused learning that can be done anywhere, anytime.Ākonga at Te Kura choose subjects based on their passions and interests, accessing learning online supported by kaiako who guide, inspire, and drive engagement. Alongside this, kaiako provide pastoral care and connect with ākonga through regular huinga ako — online or face to face — where learners connect, receive guidance, and strengthen their sense of belonging.Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this positionWe have a vacancy for a Kaiako Matua (Senior Teacher) in an exciting role leading Social Science / Integrated Studies across the Central South Region in our Wellington tari (office) and also contributing to the wider rōpū across Aotearoa.Our focus is on engaging ākonga in learning that is relevant to them in their context and provides choices for the future. We are looking for a Kaiako Matua who is passionate about interweaving curriculum learning and opportunities, who is innovative, creative and responsive to the needs of individuals and groups of ākonga when designing learning, and who is excited at the opportunity to work in an environment where learning is highly personalised and flexible.Kaiako Matua work collaboratively and you will have the opportunity to extend your leadership skillset by taking on a variety of roles in the rōpū. Kaiako Matua are also attached to a cross-curricular kāhui. Kaiako Matua are supported by the other Kaiako Matua in their rōpū, regionally by our Regional Leaders of Learning, and nationally by our National Leaders of Learning.Ko koe tēnei | About youSkillsAs the Kaiako Matua (Senior Teacher), you will be able to thrive in a busy environment, show initiative, have excellent communication skills and be self-motivated. As well as this you will:experience in building strong curriculum learning in a range of contexts practical experience in effective assessment for learning up-to-date curriculum knowledge, including national curriculum refresh and Review of Achievement Standards established connections with other subject matter experts and subject associations a commitment to ongoing professional learning and personal growthIt's an exciting time at Te Kura as we continue to innovate and transform the way we provide distance learning, while responding pro-actively to the opportunities provided by national curriculum refresh and the Review of Achievement Standards. In our online environment, we work with the latest technologies and are constantly growing in this space.While we are an online school that doesn't mean no ākonga contact. You'll interact with our ākonga at face-to-face and virtual advisories, communicate with them using online tools and guide a group of ākonga as their Kaimanaaki (Learning Advisor).
