Key AccountabilitiesUnder limited supervision, support researchers by proactively planning experimental resources, and by liaising with other technical staff and suppliers. Help develop the associated resources at the SMSRC as a national and international research tool Maintain rigorous maintenance records of instrumentation, lab protocols and data and maintain consumables and lab logistics to GLP standards Help develop and maintain safe laboratory practices and First Aid procedures Undertake laboratory duties across analytical chemistry, molecular biology, microscopy/histology and microbiology/micro-algal functional areas support technical staff and upskill as needed Assist in teaching/tutoring duties of studentsKey InteractionsInternalLaboratory Managers at SMSRC SMSRC science facilities staff Academic marine research and operational support staff at SMSRC UKF studentsExternalSupport academic and research collaboratorsQualification & ExperienceMinimum 3 years of multidisciplinary hands-on laboratory technical experience Laboratory safety qualifications Experience in working in university research facilities A science degree at BSc or aboveEssentialSkills & Competencies:Good knowledge of laboratory operations and environmental regulations Demonstrated experience as a technician Commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship organizational and project management skills proactively being able to manage labwork as an individual and team Good communication skills including fluent in English Analytical thinking, problem-solving and decision-making abilitiesDesirableExperience in academic, or government research environments Analytical techniques in molecular biology, analytical chemistry, microbiology and microscopy Arabic speaker a plus Flexibility and adaptability Collaborative and interdisciplinary mindset
